The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2024 is a great step by Canada to help and teach students from other countries about how research is done in Canada. It’s like giving them superpowers in research! This program invites students from around the world to come to Canada and learn Canadian research methods and tricks.
The best part is, this internship is wholly funded. That means the students don’t have to worry about money – Canada takes care of it! And here’s something cool: the research projects are not just limited to one area. They can be about different subjects or even a mix of them. So, if you have a specific project in mind or if you just want to explore other areas, you have the chance to do that.

For some reason I keep seeing people asking whether Ukraine considers switching from cyrillic alphabet to latin alphabet, and 1) russia didn't invent and doesn't own cyrillic alphabet; 2) I would lose my mind if on a regular basis I had to write "shch" instead of "щ". That's 4 letters to write one letter, sir!!!!!
#imagine how much work is required to change every sign every name every document...... to re-teach everyone and change books#for literally no reason#no thank you

The thing is I don't believe Miles Edgeworth would ever say "I love you" to Nick, and I don't think he would reach out to hold him. But I do think the moment he hears about what's going on with Trucy he would show up at Nick's door with a stack of documentation on adoption and sit down with him for hours as they wade through the legal process to gain custody. One step at a time, you are not alone in this, we'll figure this out together. Acts of service my beloved... Let me ease your burden by taking it on. I love you and want you to be well.
#I know he would do the absolute most. He wasn't the youngest lawyer ever for nothing#He hands over a 4 page double spaced document vouching for Nick's character to submit to the court#He gets out a tape measure to make sure Nick's spare room meets the legal size requirements to be considered a bedroom#After 6 hours he leaves Nick with a 38 step plan and a scheduled court date#I JUST THINK A LOT ABOUT how Miles was adopted as a kid and now Trucy is being adopted too at the same age#I think Miles would care fiercely about her getting the parental love and support he never got simply because she reminds him of him#girl who loves miles edgeworth “hmm i bet i could make this unrelated plot point relevant to miles edgeworth”#ace attorney#narumitsu#miles edgeworth#phoenix wright

It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.
People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.
And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.
If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.
#and ive heard even dumber origins of the cherokee family myth#such as an ancestor having a silly sounding name so the descendents just go 'oh she mustve been an indian!!!'#i was one of the few people who had my ancestry done on the facebook and had genuine cherokee ancestry#[though i had found it before it was just really validating to get it double checked and i started finding cousins (:]#like. i was told once when i was a kid by my grandma that my dad had cherokee ancestry and i didnt believe her. its wild that so many peopl#will make it a Fixture of their identity [or even just smth they bring up ever] with Zero proof#at least for cherokees from what ive seen its usually considered really disrespectful to claim to have cherokee ancestry without#actually having the documentation [like ancestors on the rolls]#and no a dna test doesnt count. nor does 'my dad is Clearly not white!' or 'high cheekbones' or old family photos or anything#i had this discussion with someone recently whose dad had been calling himself 3/4 native but didnt know exactly what nation ???? hello?#and its like... sorry but ur dad is like. italian lol.#[and blood quantum is bullshit anyway im tired of the 'im 1/16 cherokee' comments its dumb#cherokee nation does not have a blood quantum requirement. its pointless bringing it up in the discussion of who is or isnt cherokee]#also mandatory disclaimer that im reconnecting. i didnt grow up connected to the culture of even knowing my ancestry#this is all from my looking into this stuff over the past year or so. i cant claim to be an authority over anything regarding this#this is p much all my repeating things ive heard said by people who know a lot more than i do haha#man. and this isnt even starting to get into the fake tribe stuff. the only legit cherokee groups are the 3 federally recognized bands#cherokee nation of oklahoma. united keetoowah band. and the eastern band of cherokee indians.#any others that are state recognized or not at all arent acknowledged as legitimate by any of the legit cherokee groups#anyway. my final message goodb.ye#cherokee#tsalagi

not meant as a vent just commiseration re: therapists; every therapist i saw as a minor (also known as a, Child) upheld my hysteria bpd diagnosis and sympathized to my face with the parents who were actively abusing me, including the professionally-out transgender man and the married lesbian with an adopted child. the therapist i burnt money on as a newly adult for one appointment to try to get a letter to proceed with medical transition was a professionally-out transgender woman referred to me by a pcp (funnily enough come to think of it also a lesbian who i stopped seeing because she didn't treat me like a human or listen to me) for this express purpose; instead of writing me a letter, she told me i should get a job. i was and am a disabled individual on welfare. The doctor is god's most wretched freak
they truly suck lmfao also i hope you got the letter sorted but if not: depending on where you live there are likely therapists whose whole practice is to write these letters so that people like you can access care and they are much less likely to ask about, or disqualify you for, things like past psych history or employment status. you can literally just go for one session, confirm that you want to transition, and walk out with a letter. if you can get in touch with any local trans meetups or support groups in your area they can usually help you find these people

my favourite passtime is making up incredibly unaccurate armour designs. That's a lie my passtime is researching but this comes at a close second
#[.art]#is it even armour at this point? it's a chestplate with a mantella over it. It's armour to me. In spirit.#oh I dread to maintag this but my blog has to be organised or I get hives so I am in fact putting this in at least his tag#This was mostly an excuse for me to shade metal and draw armour but he's there as a character base because I wanted to put constellations i#Javert#les miserables#les mis#<- the- what was it. The mortifying ordeal of being known? me when I post art I did for fun in my free time#also this file is called knightvert. You should know this#also I got an answer about the constitution in place in 1820 and I regret to inform you that mister Valjean was probably elected lawfully#mostly because he'd been there for the minimum required year in order to be a citisen and be appointed by the prefect as mayor#or by the double decimal process if we go by 1799 law and not the 1814 charter.#not counting the fake identity but alas I do not believe proof of identity was required by law for that so. Dreadfully not added to the lis#which doesn't exclude entirely document forgery because I believe property law comes into the needing proof of identity?#But I've been looking at french law for three days and I need to not read for a week now So I'll check that later

Just wanted to say that your characters feel like real people in the best possible way! I really enjoy reading the snippets of lore you post about them.
(and also, your art style is beautiful - it's extremely recognizable, unique, and makes the graphic designer part of my brain very very happy)
That's so nice to hear, thank you!
#maybe this sounds weird but#when you reach a certain level of familiarity with a character you've created it almost starts to feel like they're a person you know#and whose comings and goings you're just documenting for some reason#it's like#when they get enough momentum it requires a lot less active planning on your part to figure out what they would do and how they would think#you just know#does that make sense?#also thank you I'm glad you find my style recognizable and unique!#answered#chelerin

so, i made a speedlang a month or so ago that i'd love to develop further and polish. i'm considering posting my progress on it / explaining various aspects on it on tumblr (either here or on a sideblog).. is that something people would be interested in seeing? it'd be cool to share it with other ppl and hear their thoughts/feedback on it
#conlanging#sewi's stuff#i realised that i enjoy sharing my conlangs with people so i wanna do that more but idk who i'd share it with#for context it's a naturalistic language that i made for the r/conlangs 21st speedlang challenge#(the post talking about the submissions hasn't been written yet sadly)#it's got a nominal TAM system and pseudo noun incorperation (other stuff too but i forgor)#and marks a fair amount of stuff thru ablaut#and i'd wanna polish the grammar and documentation‚ think about sociolinguistics‚ the lexicon (the PNI phrases esp)‚ make a couple dialects#make / flesh out sound shifts‚ and think about pragmatics#which is a lot but i'm not planning on speedrunning it#i've got uni n such to focus on#the pragmatics sociolinguistics and lexicon also would require me to think about culture too which sounds fun (and also somewhat new to me)

Just full of ✨ Thoughts ✨ over the development and progress from when you start the game to when you finish on how P/Carlo just evolves, and kinda just thinking on some internal stuff on how I would like to write him.
How you start and he's just P, he doesn't know his purpose, he just knows he's being called somewhere. Lost, alone, faced with peril and made to fight when he hasn't even stepped out of his "birth place". He wakes up and he's just handed a sword. And he fights. At the start he's very much this empty slate; A newborn stumbling through Krat, and despite the man who calls himself himself father saying stuff like "Krat isn't how you remember it--" He really doesn't 'remember' anything at all. What is there to 'remember', he wonders?
And then he starts to get the memories-- they're not his but also... they are? They feel so close and yet so far away; Foreign and yet familiar. And then he hears a name whispered: Carlo-- and his whole world shifts right from under him. He feels sick, the name makes his head spin. The voice to have said it makes his head spin all the more. And bit by bit. He remembers. Not all of it, but... he remembers enough.
And he's hurt by what he remembers.
But by the end of it, after he claims his own freedom, after everything is resolved, and he returns to the hotel, he doesn't feel fully like Carlo-- doesn't feel at all like "P", either. He woke up not too long ago, and suddenly his life is flipped in its entirety. He's neither, and yet he's both. He doesn't know who he is anymore, but the name sticks. It's all he has left, even if a part of him feels some strange form of imposter syndrome, somewhere deep down... But he doesn't like being referred to as Geppetto's Puppet, either. He's not a puppet, not anymore. He's human, albeit, a different kind of human.
So just Carlo, is fine with him, even if he's changed far beyond of who-- and what-- Carlo was.
'--an Ergo puppet can have a second life and become another kind of human--' He just needed now to decide just what that second life meant for him, now.
#Lies of P#Lies of P Spoilers#Just digging deep while dumping all my thoughts into a word document but also kinda#thinking on how... I want to portray him? How I saw him through my playthroughs of the game.#Sophia in her letter at the end specifically mentions:#“The fact that an Ergo puppet can have a second life and become another kind of human requires more time for people to find out about it.”#And while she's probably referring to herself? Aren't we too referred to as such by Giangio/Paracelsus?#So by extension... yeah. Second life. But by this point Carlo doesn't even feel like 'Carlo'#It's like waking up one morning as one person and then suddenly getting slammed with memories of your past life#and going 'well shit now who am I' because literally just this morning you were 500% convinced you were someone else#Hurray for identity crisis!! Even if lowkey! He just goes on and does his best c':

#(FROM PROJECTS)#personal#the engineering chronicles#WILL HOPEFULLY NEVER NEED TO SLEEP THREE NIGHTS ON THE FLOOR OF THE ENGINEERING BUILDING AGAIN!!!#one class the final project was to build a karaoke machine which my partner and i had planned on making look like actual speakers and#microphone but we couldn’t find the stuff in time and her mom made a joke abt singing into hairbrushes and we decided to take that and#run lol we used a pink sparkly makeup box to store our circuit and cut out holes for the speakers and decorated it with makeup and put the#hairbrush mics inside and it was very fun actually and our class voted us as one of the groups to go to project day which was pretty cool!!#project day did get canceled bc of. asnow day which was unfortunate especially considering we stayed up until 4am the night before#preparing our documents for it and trying to perfect the karaoke machine when we could have been putting that time toward project number#2 😐 but whatever we still get our extra credit and i can say i qualified for it so im happy enough#then project 2 was for another class but we’re lab partners in both (+ another guy for this project) and it was digital monster pet so we#made a dragon i was mostly on design so i hand CADed the whole thing which was living hell if i never want to lay eyes on solidworks#again but also he came out very cute after MUCH hasle putting him together with all the wires and components bc our wires from the kit are#so bad they’re constantly getting disconnected from each other which we didn’t know would happen bc the labs we usually do we don’t have to#connect them together like that since you’re not routing them thru bodies etc and they’ve worked great until now but anywya.#i did the lcd faces and the light sensor and a couple other things + a lot of the code was copy and paste from past labs and fitting it to#suit the project but for the most part it was a shit ton of hardware on my end while she and the other guy managed the rest of the code#which i really wish i could have been more involved with but oh well. as it is though he’s my baby i birthed him <3 we’re planning on#meeting up over weekends next semester to change some stuff and add other extra features that we missed we got a decent grade 85% but we#all agreed we don’t want to leave him like this we want to add the extra features we had come up with and also i think we should switch out#our motors for servos bc the motors we were required to use#instead suck they’re not strong at all compared to what a servo can do for you. also we want to make it so you can not only pet him which w#already have with light sensors but also wash him with a Hall effect sensor and magnet so like we’d stick the sensor inside and the magnet#inside a little cad brush or sponge is what im envisioning and i have an expression in mind for what we’d do then. also paint him and#redesign the platform he stands on bc it’s rlly cramped and also make a pcb bc we only have him with the microcontroller and breadboards rn#and i might mess with his face piece a bit too im not sure. oh and speakers!!! those were technically a requirement but we didn’t get them#done on time but i want to make him play music sooooo bad so definitely that. anyway want to be more involved in the software when we do#all this. pretty excited actually :]
