Jake frowned, trying to focus. "A… ditch."‌ He coughed, then groaned at the pain shooting through his head. Passing out might not actually be that bad.

"Stay awake," Mal ordered. "Give me somethin' useful."

"I'm, like, ten…? minutes off the highway. I think?" His thoughts were swimming and hard to pin down.

Mal sighed. "Okay. Des'll track your phone. Don't move and don't pass out."

"Just hurry," Jake muttered. He could feel himself starting to fade. "Can't miss me… the guy in the ditch."

"On my way. Just hang on, kid."

The entire Reflections collections (three stories) is less than 30 pages. It's light-hearted and very PG. Shadows is at 39 pages and I'm still not finished. It was supposed to be around 20.

Parts of Shadows are so damn dark I had to put a trigger warning at the beginning. Even with all the cute scenes.

Alas, another one that is vague for word number purposes. But possibly the first time I've ever written anything for Republic of Doyle, so a WIN!

Jake covered in bruises was, unfortunately, nothing new. Honestly, it was a miracle he’d only had concussions and broken ribs and not a skull fracture.

“Don’t look at me like that,” Jake protested through split lips and a heavily bruised jaw. One eye was completely swollen shut, the bruise deep and black from his cheek past his hairline.

“How should I look at you?” Malachy asked.

“It was an accident. The guy thought I was someone else.”

“So it should be someone else, lying in a hospital bed with a couple fractures? That makes it better?”

“I’ll be fine, Dad.”

The Summer Before My 50th.

I'm hoping that I'll be healed up enough from my surgeries to go on a solo trip to St John's Newfoundland.

The idea is to take pictures and videos of all of the places where the two-part series finale of Republic of Doyle was filmed.

I decided to continue the story from the last Doyle fill I did, so this is a little further along, when Mal finally finds Jake in the ditch.

"I know you're hurt, but we gotta do this."

Pain exploded in Jake's side as Mal pulled him free.

Everything faded for a moment, then cold rain jolted him back to reality. Freezing rivers ran down the back of his shirt. Jake shivered reflexively, then groaned at fresh pain from the movement.

He barely had time to push away and take a stumbling step before being sick all over the ground.

The world spun. Jake would've fallen flat on the ground if not for Mal's grip.

"C'mon," Mal said, worry lacing his words. "Let's get you out of this rain."
