Evil Princess Done Wrong VS Evil Princess Done Right

I cannot speak too highly of either The Rising Of The Shield Hero or Ovelord, and I find both these characters detestable on a personal level. But on the basis of character writing, I have to give Ovelord (the worse of the two) this; Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself is leagues better an "evil princess" character than Malty Melromarc.

And I think the main reason why goes without saying: you actually really fucking buy why anyone would be decieved and manipulated by her, and that it depends on her intellect rather than the stupidity and gullibility of others. Malty is insultingly Obviously Evil, her lies and manipulations are so easy for anyone with half a brain to tear through and expose as falsehoods she's using to work some angle and get her way, and she seems to just exist to commit self-serving crimes that hurt others for kicks, for no reason deeper than Slutty Bitchy Devil Woman Is Bad. Whereas as horrific the evil committed by Renner upon her own kingdom and all of humanity, you're a bit more understanding of why no one stopped her before it got to that point: her facade is genuinely convincing in how charming, sweet and benevolent she seems, and she had done acts of genuine good for the kingdom such as abolishing the slave trade (which she did because her ethical line drawn against such a practice was sincere.)

Also worth mentioning is how Renner actually has a background-based reason for why she turned out so bad whereas Malty doesn't, and while Malty is a Hate Sink designed to have viewers/readers rooting against her and calling for her blood, Renner is so efficient at how completely evil she is that many viewers/readers were actually rooting for her and are all too happy to see her come out on top.

Also, had the mental image of stealth/doppelganger sister overhearing Renner's plans for Climb and occasionally trying to subtly warn him, dying internally whenever he stops to sing his praises for her. Climb is like "renner's the nicest person I know! I love her so much!" while sis is just "i am literally begging you to spend some EXP on leveling up perception for god's sake she has a bathtub's worth of roofie potions in her bedroom closet"

Something ain't right if a teenager can understand the concept of "something-ain't-right-with-proof" than a person that is supposed to be at matured age.

At this rate, (Y/N) is begging big bro Ainz to teach her the ways of EXP sharing. She will and do a fucking presentation like the little middle schooler she is to everyone at the tomb. Of course, Renner is banned from the presentation.

By default, I guess I have to. There's no one else Renner would have or who'd have Renner (especially if they knew the real her), and sick and possessive as Renner is, she does take good care of Climb.

Renner is a case of sociopathy that could’ve been avoided if things had turned out differently in her childhood. Not particularly from trauma, but from loneliness. From a very young age, she was exceptionally intelligent. Her level was so high above others that many were so intimidated by her that they were fearful. Others simply didn’t recognize it. This eventually drove her to not care about anyone.

Her morals are also lacking. She can understand good and evil perfectly well on an intellectual level. However, she does not bind herself to such concepts herself. In the pursuit of her goals, anything is fair game for her and anyone trampled in the process doesn’t matter.

Renner also has a good amount of superficial charm. She is known to the public eye as the Golden Princess. Tales of her benevolence and kindness are echoed throughout the kingdom. Obviously, this is far from being true. It’s all a front to manipulate others and hide her lack of empathy. Anyone who really knows her can see through it.

Her battle strategy during the demon invasion involved causing the least amount of casualties. She works to risk fewer lives, but any losses are acceptable to her if they can’t be avoided. What scares her brother and Marquis Raeven is that it worked perfectly and was vastly superior to veterans twice her age!

The only apparent exception to her lack of empathy is the peasant boy Climb, who was the first person to truly appreciate her intellect. But by then, she was already so warped by the isolation. So even her idea of loving him was mostly a selfish obsession. The very reason she loves him is that he appreciates her and not really anything about him specifically. She mostly viewed him as a cute puppy for her to possess.

Manipulating people is also something she’s good at. She pretends to be not as intelligent as she is to present an image of naivety to determine if anyone is going to hurt Climb or has any ill-intent towards him simply due to his commoner blood. This usually results in them being murdered if she finds out that they do. Some maids in training found this out the hard way according to her internal dialog. And one disturbing aspect that shows this is when she looks emotionlessly into her mirror and try to decide what expression to wear in front of her maid.

Renner definitely isn’t the Disney-princess archetype.
