I got to go to the Carolina Ren Fest on Saturday, November 4th, I spent literally up to 1 AM Friday working to get my costume ready, and I'm happy with how it came out, even if I was unable to use my new skull I spent literally months working on, because it didn't print right any of the four times I tried.
But for now, I'm calling this character Momitamor, which is just Momento Vita Mori smashed together, because I have always lived by Momento Mori, but I wanted to add in life, because we should all remember to live, for we all die in the end anyways.
My sister in law took the photos, and I'm beyond happy with that! I also got to trade some trinkets, which I'm thinking of using to turn into some kind of necklace, or something else to wear with this.
Slowly I'm coming up with more for Momitamor, my husband is dressing up as a wizard for this Saturday when we go back, and I'm even more excited as I get to be the summoned creature, our daughter will be the dragon familiar, and he will be our wizard.
All the 3D printed pieces (all bones, the mask, and the fingers) were gotten from Thingiverse, the robe was hand made by my husband, the burlap capelet, fur shawl thing, cross body bag, and gloves were made by me. All painting was also done by me.
I can't wait to see where I am sewing/painting wise next year when I'm able to go back, and update my costume further. This is about 2 years of hectic one month before attendance work.

Anna Kendrick (American, born Aug. 9, 1985)
Edited detail of Saint Dominic Guzmán Presiding over an Auto-da-fe, 1493-1499. Pedro Berruguete (Spanish, 1450-1504).
Auto-da-fe (English: “act of faith”) was the final stage of Inquisition for prisoners accused of heresy or apostasy in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, beginning in the 15th century. Ostensibly a final act of penance, but essentially a public execution, the most common conclusion was death by fire, though forms of pre-mortem torture and/or other methods of capital punishment were occasionally used as well.

Can you do a list in the order you think people should play fe games in cause I can feel my brain descending into a renaissance of my fe hyperfixation
Here's my current list:
Fe8 and 7, playing them at the same time.
Echoes
Awakening
Fe6
See I wanna play fe6 for Narcian but also chapter 3 scares me.
Ok so for people in general is a bit different from your current list, if I were to just add on to what you're list is it would look like this
fe8
fe7
Echoes
Awakening
Fe6
Fe9
Fe10
Fe11
Fe12
Fates (all three routes if you want, but as you all know the writing is very bad, and revelation is kind of boring to play some times)
Engage
Fe4
Fe5

Hello MLP fandom of Tumblr! I am wondering about the Fandom Literature Classics, and whether or not you've read them! I'll do more of these polls later, since more than three per poll makes it difficult to give thorough answers!
Today's fics: Sunny Skies All Day Long (Celestia takes a day off to be a normal pegasus), Past Sins (the one with Nyx), and Fallout: Equestria
I won't beg for reblogs, but if you have any MLP fandom friends I'd ask you share the poll with them!
I'm also curious about the ratio of Fandom Olds to newbies on here, since I know that there's been a mini renaissance of MLP lately!

I really wish people would stop saying Fire Emblem takes place in "medieval times". The medieval period was a very specific period in history but fans always just use it as shorthand for "fantasy times".
FE references the Renaissance (and after ) more often than the medieval (not the same thing).

It's also weird that some of 3H's fan try to hold 3H as a a "gotcha" to Engage for being unrealistic on some part when not only is it a FE tradition to have teenagers becoming the leader of an army, but we are talking about Fire Emblem.
A franchise mainly based of the shounen fantasy genre and whose game are mainly centered around that. Wait you are tellling me this franchise don't care about being realistic and historically accurate when it has pegasus, dragons, magic and zombies ? WoW, who would have thunk ?
And please don't act as if 3H was an exception to this. You also have teenagers leading an army with one creating a whole war and stiring out 4 years of discourse. It's not realistic at all nor historically accurate in the slighest. You have the Adestrian empire supposed to be based of Germany yet they dress a la Byzantine fashion when the Leiscester Alliance dress Renaissance style !! And they have freaking nuke in the medieval era !! And if you think it's realistic for Byleth, someone who is supposed to be an experienced mercenary to somehow knows no sheep about Foldan and isn't even able to guess their own age when they are supposed to know their birthdate and that people would expect to not know how to read and write thanks to a certain Hopes to be hired as a teacher to teach people who are barely a YEAR younger then them when some of their students are even OLDER then they are !!!!!
Just because the game has the aesthetic of some greedy historically accurate and realistic medieval based game doesn't mean it is one ! It's still a FE game and FE game means fantasy and shouneny etc. And acting like it isn't just because 3H looks "deep" is an absolute in joke of itself. Acting like liking fantasy is only for kids or not mature when it's precisely what fiction is about : escapism. What's the point of having something that is 1 : 1 like reality ? And anyway, it's impossible for it to happen because fiction is not reality, those are things that are very different. No matter how accurate to reality fiction will try to be, it will never be like it, it will never be "realistic".
Because fiction is fiction.

*asks about the aureole* keep talking I like hearing you talk /gen
!!! Thank u for the ask LOL I'm super flattered you think so.
Okay, so for this post I'm going into religion iconography today and then loop that back into FE. Just bear with me, and you might find something interesting in here.
As a warning: I'm not going to be very thorough with each part because simply, there are so much branches and meanings and intermixing of this simple halo thing. While I'm going to talk about it in a general manner, take note that there are always nuance in branch of religion, culture, and history where the halo has been used.
So if you're interested, it's worth digging into each part on your own.
To begin:
Aureole, or more commonly known as the halo, is commonly found in a lot of religious depictions. Picture an angel as they are typically depicted in modern culture in your mind and chances are it'll be a humanoid with wings and a halo on their head. Something like Mercy from Overwatch would be a good starting point:
Tumblr media
But halos aren't just limited to angels. They are found in soooo much more things all over the world. Though, since an angels are rooted in western theology, specifically Christianity, I'm going to start with that.
In old Christian religious art, the Halo is a symbol you'd see on important religious figures such as the representations of Christ, angels, and the saints throughout the middle ages. Not so much today, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The halo is typically used to symbolize holiness. Without going into too much detail, there are a few different types of halos which means different things. This symbology seems to have been incorporated into early Christian art around 400 CE, but it saw gradual decline as western art began to shift into realism.
So much that by High Renaissance period, the halos more or less just went poof altogether. Artists would find other ways to depict it through use of more subtle lighting or some floating mirrors, but it just wasn't as explicit as it once was.
Tumblr media
Still, the idea of halos associated with angels stayed. And hence here we are, still playing with the ideas of halo'd humanoids with white wings as angels.
But now let's go eastwards. Let's look at the religion there and we'll find something very similar too.
Tumblr media
The Buddha... has a halo as well.
In fact, this halo thing has been around since the First Century in India. During the Gupta period (320-647CE), there has already been depictions of Buddha with a halo behind him to signify enlightenment in this case:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buddhism of course spread further eastwards and south-eastwards to the rest of Asia. If we pause and take a look in each of the region from this point onward, there's a strange change to the aureole/halo gradually emerging. Basically, it isn't strictly a circular halo all the time. Sometimes, it looks like an aura of fire around the figure.
Below are depictions of Buddhas, Boddhisattvas, and Celestial Beings/Gods in Buddhism:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And sometimes, it's just rays of light around a figure. Check out the depiction of Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun of Japan creation myth here, she has one.
Tumblr media
Heck, how about Egypt? There's the Sun god, Ra with something very similar too!
Tumblr media
So, this halo is actually really common. But it takes a lot of different forms, doesn't it? In my understanding, there's 4 main types of halos. And given the examples above, they all in some part symbolizes one thing: light.
Tumblr media
Part of the reason why this is the case is because the sun just... looks like that. Bring up a shiny, transparent or translucent material and it refracts off it. Have a guy stand between yourself and the sun, look at him, and suddenly the dude has an aureole.
The other more serious reason from a culture standpoint is simply put, the spread of an idea. As Metal Gear Solid Kojima puts it, a meme.
Tumblr media
...Okay, I was only being half serious there. Back to being serious. /coughs
I alluded to this, but there is a clear distinction between West and East. The middle of it -- the Middle East, sometimes called the cradle of civilization, is a big reason why the halo is such a big icon all over the world. The halo seems to be a result of people being really taken with a certain coinage in that sphere. A certain god was depicted on its coin, and it was a god named Mithra. He is an Iranian deity of covenant, light, oath, justice and the Sun. So a super light based deity of truth.
Tumblr media
The roots extend further beyond Mithra, and there was likely a few other influences stretching even as far back as the Indus Valley civilization, but I won't get into it for this post. BBC has published an article going more in depth about the spread of it here if you'd like to read it.
The halo: A symbol that spread around the world
But anyway, fascinating stuff. Lots of common theme, and it's clear all these are ideas spreading back and forth, changing a little each time it touches a different sphere.
It's such a strong iconography that some Roman emperors appropriated it for themselves, becoming in what's known as a Radiant Crown. It has some association with the cult of Sol Invictus (also associated with the sun), but I'm not going to detour there.
Tumblr media
Rome was, of course, extremely influential to later civilizations, contributing to a lot of governmental ruling framework to European Christian monarchs who came after. Long story short, this association with the divine eventually morphed and influenced the idea of the divine right of kings. IE, God decides a ruler before they are born, thereby making certain the world is as God intended, which seals the legitimacy of their rule and therefore the average folk should just accept it.
The Chinese had its own spin on this, which was the Mandate of Heaven. The Heavens, (i.e Celestial beings/Buddhist gods) bestows their chosen, just ruler, their mandate. If this ruler acted in a way they disliked, Heavens will cause flood, famine and natural disasters to signify their displeasure. Successful revolt of the people just meant the Heavens have revoked their mandate.
Apples and oranges, but both are fruits of the governmenting variety, really.
Side Detour: Possibly alternate aureoles in Chinese/Japanese Buddhism
There's also a group of dieties found in Japanese/Chinese Buddhism known as Tennin (天人). Tennin and Devas are the same thing, just one is in Japanese and the other Sanskrit. The females are known as the Tennyos (天女), celestial maidens, and they're depicted like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those silks of ribbons are known as Tenne, and their coloured, feathered kimono are called hagoromo (羽衣, lit. feather dress). Without their hagoromos, these Devas cannot fly without them and so cannot return to heaven.
But see how the silk scarf is framed? Kind of like a halo? It's not a piece locked to the female tennin/devas, it's common to see male tennin/devas with them too.
Tumblr media
OKAY now about Fire Emblem I swear.
So now with all this knowledge, let's take a look at some Fire Emblem characters, and see what clicks.
Veronica
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Veronica bears design elements of both an angel and the Radiant Crown, but he crown also stands out in how it seems to be a halo. I'm not entirely why she's designed this way, but it could be that her character arc was about overcoming her ignorance, hatred, and the greed of wanting more time with Letizia to become a better person. She ticks the boxes of the overcoming the Three Poisons in Buddhism, which Alfonse actually doesn't go through. (Kind... of. Not as obvious as her arc, at least.)
Kiran
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kiran's design here also has that subtlety of the aureole. If you took their coat and just spread it out, fanned it out, it kind of looks like they have a halo on their forehead, and another circle around their body. It also doesn't help that the chest area is another circle.
(This is why I think Kiran is really fucking sus for the past 6 years. Seeing Buddha statues with that aureole growing up and then looking at Kiran, it feels like I'm just being toyed with by intsys >_>)
Seidr
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember what I said about the silk scarf shawl thing and the Aureole? Seidr here has a tenne!
As a bonus, she does fit the conditions of being a Buddhist deva/tennin too. I think most people might have picked up on that Eastern spin the shawl gives but not really know why. But well, now you do ;)
Askr and Embla
Tumblr media
These two do in fact, have the halo. Right up there, on both their heads.
It's an easy way to portray how these two are gods, but it might be a bit puzzling why they are seemingly portrayed as 'lower gods' if you just viewed it from a western religious lens.
But these two aren't lower gods, at least, not if you viewed it from a more Eastern lens.
--And there are probably a lot more little examples I'm missing! Take this knowledge and try applying it against other Fire Emblem character designs or even to things outside and see what you get. Chances are, a lot, actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, that's about it for this post! (Tumblr says I've used up all 30 photo slots ;;) Thanks for reading and sending the ask! ❤️❤️❤️

Travis Scott’s “UTOPIA” or How You Can Justify the 5 Years for an Album
Tumblr media
On the 28th of July, the long-awaited album “UTOPIA” by Houston rapper Travis Scott was released to a global audience. After the commercial success of his 3rd album, “ASTROWORLD,” the bar was set extraordinarily high. This album's hype permeated globally, featuring mysterious briefcases, an Egypt performance (unfortunately canceled), and mastering from Mike Dean. It seemed as if the album was Travis’s version of "Graduation" or "MBDTF," so the question is:
Did the protege manage to succeed?
“UTOPIA” is weird, absurd, creepy, and fantastic. Those four words were the first that came to my mind after listening to the whole thing. In comparison, “ASTROWORLD” was akin to a rollercoaster or entertainment park, offering an experience of entertainment and amusement, which clearly played it much safer than “UTOPIA”.
“ASTRO” was colorful, but not as motley and vibrant as “UTOPIA”. It had risks, but wasn’t as edgy or even half as bold as the latter. Travis’s goal with “UTOPIA” is to engage you in his album atmosphere once more, achieved here by the effect of shock and amazement.
Explosive instrumentals and angelic outros are fundamental in every Travis Scott album, but the variety of soundscapes represented flawlessly in this LP is tremendous. The album is replete with hip-hop beats in disguise, allowing Travis to flow wherever and however he wills. Most of his rap performance is rough and raw, reminiscent of his older “Owl Pharaoh”/ “Days before Rodeo” style evident in “Hyaena”, “God’s Country”, “Skitzo”.
On his 4th LP, Travis ventures into unknown directions. An instance is “K-Pop,” dancehall-inspired music with elements of Latin involvement. “Modern Jam” is another example indicating his new direction. The boom-bap “Beyonce’s Renaissance” house music dominates this project, illustrating the multifunctionality of Travis’s style. The album showcases peak Travis psychedelic beats and performances, entrancing listeners in this natural, spatial feeling of oddness.
Features:
One issue I had with “ASTROWORLD” was that the feature list mostly outshined Travis, leaving little space for him on the song. However, here Travis immerses you by himself, making it the standout of this project for me.
Tumblr media
On “UTOPIA,” invited artists deliver some of their best verses with amazing execution. Each artist sounds seraphic and vibrant, finding their niche and contributing to the complete experience. For example, in “FE!N,” Playboi Carti reveals a more mature, rough, and revolutionary style, an incredible opportunity to showcase his new era on such a long-awaited release.
Additionally, Travis introduces newcomers and upcoming talents. “UTOPIA” introduces Teezo Touchdown on “Modern Jam” and KayCyy on “Thank God”. Both were phenomenal; Teezo’s voice, initially found annoying and disturbing, showcased its subtleties and proper implementation on “Modern Jam.”
Tumblr media
Even minor elements, such as Sampha’s feature on ‘My Eyes,’ Young Thug’s verse on ‘Skitzo,’ and immersive vocals from SZA and The Weeknd, display the well-mastered nature of this project.
Artistically, “UTOPIA” represents Travis finally merging both alter egos (Scott and $cott) and utilizing them marvelously throughout the album.
Let’s explore his $cott side. He reverts to the rawness, hunger, and desire seen in older projects, illustrating this rage and hunger on “UTOPIA.” He flawlessly portrays his trap image, ready to stay.
Regarding his Scott ego, it delves into the transparency of emotions, offering immersive and complex structures. Here, Travis reaches new heights, potentially patenting this sound and his psycho/bizarre influence in the future.
Now, for the cons of the album, which though minor, are present.
The inconsistency and duration of the album are significant concerns. While most tracks feature amazing progressions impossible to imitate or repeat, their length with complex constructions can cause boredom and distraction for the regular listener.
Favorite Tracks:I Know?, Modern Jam, Hyaena
Least Favorite Track:K-Pop
In conclusion,
“UTOPIA” is many things - Travis Scott’s version of Yeezus, reminiscent of the past, or simply a unique, dark, immersive experience. For me, “UTOPIA” is a loose concept, seen from individual perspectives. It's not just a place or an album. It's emotions that emerge, creating the feeling of UTOPIA within you.

got all of the clothes for Bunny set aside in a cardboard box, and all of my ebay/depop listed items can officially fit in a single tote when folded properly. also got all of the completed ren faire pieces from this year that will be fe-used for next year into their own tote.
now to sort the material that is JUST for costumes out from the material that's for non-costume sewing, sort through the bin of smaller tools so they can go into the drawer organizer, and condense the non-renaissance faire costumes into a single tote. then i have to go back over the big craft supply organizer in the living room now that it'll be less packed
i can do all things through diet coke who strengthens me

Monday, May 15th, 2023 -- art school semester 1 week 12
Please ignore cut if you don’t want to read journal entries.
I am in a lot of physical pain today. Woke up with a limp on Sunday after working Renaissance Faire as a Puritan at the Santa Fe Dam. It was the first time I’ve ever gone to Renfaire, and unfortunately, the shoes I brought that actually support my feet had the soles completely fall off in the first hour of working. We had to tie them back on with a shoelace and rush me back to the Puritans’ backstage to dig up a different pair of shoes for me. Unfortunately, they neither fit nor were supportive. Oof. Needing my cane these last couple of days feels like I’ve failed to properly take care of my issues, and thus feels like a genuine moral failing. I haven’t needed my cane or wheelchair in over two years! What a combo breaker. :( Ah, well, after another day or two, I can abandon the cane once again, hopefully. (I’ve already had a rando offer me his arm while I was getting out of my car. I was a little annoyed internally, but I know he meant well...)
Despite injuring myself a little, I had a lot of fun. I’m still getting compliments from the Puritan guild master. He apparently was hoping I’d be back the next day. Unfortunately not! I’m very glad I didn’t commit to that; limping around the entirety of the faire would have been awkward at best, lol. Still, I’ll likely go again someday (and bring much better, sturdier shoes!)
I keep thinking about how long my hair has gotten lately. I generally have a very specific hairstyle and haircut that are “correct,” but lately, I feel like I actually don’t want to go back to that style anymore, at least for a while. Maybe I’m just looking for a bit of a change in general? I’m starting to feel like a bit of a different person than I was a few months ago. The mes of the past are starting to feel like strangers. I wonder if everyone feels like this as they begin to near 30. To some extent, as I recognize myself by my hair, I want to reflect this in the next haircut I get. I’m still not sure what kind of cut I want to do. I talked about maybe getting a pixie cut again, but boy did my housemates veto the hell out of that! (One housemate in particular claimed that it not only didn’t suit me, but also that I seemed unhappy with it in general while I had one.) Maybe I’ll ask a hair stylist for suggestions. (Feel free to make suggestions as well! I have messy, fluffy, curly dark ginger-blonde-ish hair.)
