I'm doing a tag game!
What are your 3 historical gaming moment?
Anything related to videogames: be it achieving the highest score in the arcade, defeating that final boss after 100 tries, winning a PS5 in a raffle, getting a photo or autograph of a VA, cosplaying a videogame character... anything!
Then tag 5 people (minimum) and let's reminisce. Spread some positivity!
🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Here are my 3 personal best (in no particular order)
1.Tekken 3
The first time I truly enjoyed playing a fighting game (I still hate playing PvP in fighting games cuz an actual human is way better at it than me) was when I finally approached a real Tekken pro. A big arcade opened up in my city and I was the only girl who went there every weekend and buy 30 tokens (Php 90.00) to feed the various machines. I saw this tall college dude play King and I was mesmerized watching him pull all of Kings grapples. After several months, I watched him from behind, playing Tekken 3 until I muster up the courage to ask him how he pulled off all his moves. The college dud pulled a piece of paper and pen and began to write down all of Kings' combos and grabs, and gave it to me! Since then I have practiced on every Tekken 3 machine, pulled off all Kings' impressive grapples to a growing audience who couldn't believe their eyes that this little highschool girl is playing Tekken 3 and beating it! Oh and I became good at the games that I reduced my 30 tokens to 5.
2. Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
This game came with the console my mom gave me. First time I popped the disc in and chose Leon S Kennedy on normal mode, I was piled upon by zombies and died. That game over screen traumatized me and I did not pick up RE for months! When I did gave it a second chance, I notice there was a 3rd mode: ARRANGED. It made the game ridiculously easy by giving me all the weapons, and so I plowed through Raccoon City with my machine gun and rocket launcher. It was fun until it wasn't. I decided to play the game on Normal, got eaten and died, then powered through it. Finally beat the game on Normal and Hard. Also went for the S Rank and bonus content. Now I love all horror and survival horror games (Silent Hill, Outlast, Evil Within, etc). It became my favorite genre.
3. The Witcher 3
Had it not for this game, I wouldn't have made The Nilfgaardian Collection or started digital art. I think it was December 2019 (or 16 I dunno, it was Xmas), my brother gave me two choices: TW3 or FF15. I wanted FF15 cuz I have always been a fan of Final Fantasy and TW3 was hyped to the heavens. I wanted to know if the hype was justified and so I got TW3 GOTY edition. The hype... was well deserved! I was hooked, I plat the game, I decided to make fanarts of my fave character (Emhyr) and gave myself a goal: to have the biggest collection of Emhyr and Nilfgaard pics and be known as that crazy chick with an unhealthy obsession to Emhyr and his Nilfgaardian empire. Thus cemented the Nilfgaardian Collection in the fandom!
I taggeth @bittersweetbark, @alphagravy, @rotatingremains, @regis-favorite-raven, @oblakovka, @smehur, @laurikarauchscat, @jawanaka, @traumschwinge, @valandhirwriter

Tropius for Pokemon Unite!
-
Season 1
Season 2
Prev: Cradily - Hatterene
Now, when I say that Gen 3 had a lot of great and unique designs, Tropius is included among them. I mean, a flying fruit bearing tree sauropod? Who else would’ve come up with this design if not for the directors at the helm of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire? If this pokemon was revealed nowadays, it would probably be ridiculed for how outlandish the concept is. And yet, for what it is, it’s probably what’s remembered the most about it. I mean, after three headed ostriches and piles of literal sludge, the bar has arguably been set very low for quite some time now. How can Tropius be any worse than that as a design?
Wait, we’re supposed to be talking about how great Tropius is. Uhh, dinosaurs are cool, especially flying trees. Imagine having one of these as your friend and it gives you free bananas every day. Yeah, that’d be great. I wish dinosaurs were real.
Too bad Tropius isn’t real in Pokemon Unite, yet.
-
Now, these stats aren’t all that bad, it’s just that a Grass/Flying typing doesn’t do these numbers any justice. High HP and decent bulk makes for a bulky pokemon, in lower tiers of play. Yeah, Tropius hasn’t had the best life all these years. I mean, with poor offensive stats and super low speed (seriously, it’s faster than the Regi Trio by 1 point!) this pokemon hardly has an impact on any facet of any situation it’s been in.
It’s better known for being a fruit bearing tree dino, and not even the ferocious kind. With nothing else going for it, I designate Tropius with the role of a...
Supporter
-
Basic Attack - Ranged/Sp. Attack
Becomes a boosted attack after three hits. When boosted, multiple leaves are scattered in a fan formation, reducing the movement speed of the enemy and Stunning them for a bit. Each time a berry is eaten, this boosted basic attack expands and increases its effect on the opposing pokemon. This number resets when the pokemon is KO’d.
At the start of each spawn, your boosted basic attack is a wide ranged leaf attack that reduces movement speed by 5% and Stuns for 0.2 seconds. The speed reduction effect lasts for 2 seconds. After a berry is eaten, the movement speed reduction effect increases by 5% more and enemies are Stunned for an additional 0.16 seconds. Oran Berries are included.
The boosted basic attack count increases to a maximum of 5. When maxed out, the maximum effect becomes; Movement Speed reduced by 30% and Stun for 1 second.
After eating berries and increasing the effect of the boosted basic attack, the increased effect is retained for the next boosted hit. The effect resets after being KO’d and respawned.
The boosted basic attack displays the level of effect gained next to your basic attack icon.
Now, you have to understand that Tropius is defined by its great love for fruits and berries, and that compels all aspects of its gameplay to lean into that. For instance, eating a berry improves how much stronger its boosted basic attack becomes, slowing down the enemy some more, on top of an annoying Stun effect. By itself, the boosted basic attack makes it very annoying to try and chase down Tropius, as the combined effects greatly hinder the enemy’s ability to move forward. So making it stronger by eating berries is sure to give the opposing team a stomachache.
Every time you eat a berry, your boosted basic attack ‘levels up’ and stays that way until you get KO’d, which incentivizes you to eat healthy. It’s also because berries are pretty rare in the late game, so it’s important to stay in tip top shape.
Of course, as a fruit producing tree dinosaur, Tropius actually has an easy time producing its own product to help itself out, as well as its teammates.
-
Ability: Harvest
Activate to spawn a Nanab berry that heals a little HP and reduces damage taken for a short while. Afterwards, the ability goes on cooldown for 30 seconds. Dealing damage to pokemon on the opposing team with your boosted basic attack and eating berries reduces the cooldown of this ability. When Harvest is active and you eat a field berry, the Nanab berry is replaced by the type of berry eaten. The replaced berry gains extra effects when consumed by you or an ally.
The Nanab Berry restores 15% of the HP of any ally who eats it. It will also reduce damage taken by 30% for 7.5 seconds. When activated, it drops directly in front of Tropius.
The ability goes on cooldown for 30 seconds. Damaging an enemy with your boosted basic attack reduces the cooldown by 1 second. Your moves will also reduce the cooldown by a set amount of time, which will be explained as the move is detailed.
Harvest’s cooldown is reduced by 5 seconds each time a berry is eaten, excluding Oran Berries.
When Harvest is ready to use, eating a field berry changes the Nanab Berry to the eaten berry instead. The eaten berry will then be spawned by you when Harvest is activated, and grants the same effects as the copied berry plus restore an additional 15% HP. Oran Berries are exempt.
The type of berry Harvest will spawn will be displayed on your HUD. It will be a Nanab Berry if no additional effects are in play. Otherwise, it can be changed to a Sitrus Berry or a Salac Berry when affected.
Isn’t there a saying that perfectly describes Tropius’ love for fruit? ‘You are what you have eaten’ or something to that effect? Actually I think it better describes Applin or Trubbish. Anyway, the ability to produce your own food is something very few animals have, like chickens. Am I comparing Tropius’ delicious berries to a chicken’s delicious egg? This is getting out of hand. Moving on.
So, when Harvest is used, a Nanab berry is dropped, as it’s the berry that closest resembles the bananas hanging off of Tropius’ neck. Why is it yellow anyway? Forget about that, being able to make berries from nothing makes you a walking vending machine for your teammates, as its hearty 15% HP recovery and defense boost is a savory snack at any time during battle. Side note, since the Nanab berry is a consumable berry, it can be stolen by Hoopa, the only other pokemon that can ‘make’ berries, so watch out for that crafty little thief.
Tropius is a real cultivar extraordinaire, as it can crossbreed the berry it produces with the ones it eats. And it’s not without difference, as the produced berry gains the effect of both the eaten berry and the Nanab Berry. For example, Sitrus Berries heal a flat 1500 HP when eaten, which is a lot or a little, depending on how much HP the pokemon eating them has. But when Tropius eats it while Harvest is ready, the resulting Berry spawned is a Sitrus Berry that heals 1500 HP plus an additional 15%, along with a very helpful damage reduction buff, same as the Nanab berry. This will also work with Salac Berries, granting a major movement speed buff along with all the extra healing and defense boost the Nanab berry would’ve provided.
This means that Tropius eating berries not only benefits you, but also your teammates when you use Harvest afterwards. You’re basically doubling a berry and increasing its effect for your team. Provided you’re diligently keeping your team healthy with your spawned berries.
Being able to reliably heal your allies provides the team with a valuable crutch later on in the game, as Sitrus Berries become rare or disappear altogether in the late game. Even so, there are other ways to actually make more berries than through just the Harvest Ability alone, as you’ll soon see.
-
At the start of the game, you can choose between Growth and Leaf Tornado as your first move. By Level 3, you’ll have learned both.
Move 1: Growth (Recovery)
Restores a little bit of HP and boosts your Attack and Sp. Attack by a little bit. Reduces the cooldown of Harvest by 5 seconds. If Harvest is used during Growth, the dropped berry gains the Attack and Sp. Attack boost and additional recovery when the berry is eaten. 10s cooldown.
Growth restores your HP by 10% and boosts your Attack and Sp. Attack by 25% for 5 seconds. It also reduces the cooldown of Harvest by 3 seconds.
If Harvest is activated while the Growth boost is active, the dropped Berry gains Growth’s boosting and recovery effects as well.
Tropius can eat the Growth boosted berry to reset Growth’s boosting effect on itself.
Harvest can spawn a Sitrus Berry or a Salac Berry while Growth is active, combining the eaten berries effect with the Growth boost. The combined effects total an additional 25% healing and an Attack and Sp. Attack boost to either the Sitrus Berry or Salac Berry when spawned.
Berries enhanced by Growth will ‘shine’ while on the field.
The fruits of one’s labor is flavored with the blood, sweat, and tears of the laborer, which makes it all the sweeter when you take that first bite. Yeah, this sounds gross, but we’re talking about a Grass Type pokemon so it’s tasteful, I think.
Growth gives you a simple bit of HP recovery along with an Attack and Sp. Attack boost. It also reduces the cooldown of Harvest a little bit when used, so using it at every opportunity is beneficial to your role as a Supporter. If you pop a Nanab Berry while Growth is powering you up, however, the dropped berry gains extra effects.
Because Tropius is growing these berries for the team, changes to its health and mood affect the flavor of the fruit it produces, and Harvest Berries are no different. If you drop a Nanab Berry while Growth is active, the berry gains extra healing and even an Attack and Sp. Attack boost to whoever eats it. The extra effects total to 25% healing and a 25% Attack and Sp. Attack buff for 5 seconds, which can help an ally turn the tide of a fight very easily.
If you switch the berry out with a Sitrus or Salac Berry, Growth will also add to the berry’s total effects, granting another 1500 HP recovery or a big speed boost, depending on which fruit drops.
Just be careful that these berries don’t get stolen by the enemy team. That’d be...rotten.
-
Move 2: Leaf Tornado (Area)
Creates a whirling vortex of sharp leaves, dealing damage continuously. Enemies will have their vision reduced while within Leaf Tornado. 7s cooldown.
Leaf Tornado affects the designated area for 4 seconds, dealing weak continuous damage over time to enemies and also obscures their vision while within the area of effect.
The vision obscuring effect is an effect of the move itself and not a hindrance inflicted on the enemy through the move. Hindrance protection and clearing will not prevent Leaf Tornado from obscuring the vision of affected enemies.
A simple whirlwind of leaves thick enough to obscure the vision of all enemies within, Leaf Tornado is admittedly a simple move. Being able to set down a short-lived attack is handy in some situations, but it’s not the most impressive attack, especially since it doesn’t hinder the enemy in any other significant way. I mean, the enemy can easily just walk out of the attack, as the move doesn’t deal enough damage to threaten even frail Attackers.
It is what it is, and it’s best not to overcomplicate things here. Tropius is trying their best, ok?
-
At Level 5, Growth becomes either Synthesis or Dragon Dance.
Move 1a: Synthesis (Recovery)
You and all nearby allies recover HP, and the cooldown of Harvest is reduced. The more pokemon healed, the more the cooldown is reduced. When Synthesis is used while at full HP, the cooldown of Harvest is reduced even more. While Synthesis is on cooldown, press the button again to switch the type of berry that Harvest will spawn. 9.5s cooldown.
At Level 10, Synthesis becomes Synthesis+.
Increases the area of effect. Also reduces damage taken while the move is on cooldown.
All allies within range restore 20% HP, including Tropius.
The cooldown of Harvest is reduced by 6 seconds. For each Ally that had their HP restored, an additional 2 seconds is reduced. If your HP was full when Synthesis is used, Harvest has its cooldown reduced by 9 seconds instead.
If Synthesis is used again while the move is on cooldown, the next berry made by Harvest will change into a Sitrus Berry. These berries are the same as Sitrus Berries crossed with the Nanab Berries you normally make with Harvest. This effect is reset after Harvest is used.
Synthesis+ expands the area of effect and reduces damage taken by 30% while the move is on cooldown.
A full range healing move is admittedly pretty rare in Pokemon Unite, with the closest example being Clefable’s Moonlight. 20% HP recovery is comparable to a free Potion for all teammates in range, and it also drastically reduces the cooldown of Harvest when used. The more teammates you heal, the bigger the cooldown reduction, which makes you much more dependable as a dispenser of delicious fruits.
Synthesis also has an extra effect where, if you use the move again while it’s on cooldown, you’ll change the Harvest Berry from a Nanab to a Sitrus Berry. Now, that would normally be a downgrade, but this berry is dropped with the same effect as a Nanab boosted crossbreed with the Sitrus Berry. As in, it’ll restore 15% HP, boosts your defenses, and heal an extra 1500 HP. On top of the healing of Synthesis, you can heal yourself or an ally a grand total of 35% HP plus 1500 HP. That’s some very healthy eating!
The upgrade, Synthesis+, expands the range of healing, making it easier to keep the whole team healthy. But it also comes with extra damage reduction while the move is on cooldown, effectively buffing your defenses in the late game. Combined with eating the super Sitrus Berry you can spawn, you’ll have defenses comparable to a Defender.
Of course, you have to keep in mind that your base stats are very low as a Supporter, so don’t get overconfident just because you have a vegan diet (is it still vegan food if it’s made by a Tropius? I’m genuinely asking).
-
Move 1b: Dragon Dance (Buff)
Boosts your Attack, Sp. Attack, and movement speed greatly for 7 seconds. Press the button again during the cooldown to switch the type of berry that Harvest will spawn. Also, if Harvest is activated while the boost is active, the dropped berry grants the same boost to whichever ally eats it. 10s cooldown.
At Level 10, Dragon Dance becomes Dragon Dance+.
Increases the boosts gained and the cooldown of Harvest is reduced for each KO you or an ally get while under the effects of the boost.
Your Attack, Sp. Attack, and Movement Speed are increased by 30% for 7 seconds while Dragon Dance is active. Dragon Dance+ increases all of these boosts to 50% instead.
If Dragon Dance is used while the move is on cooldown, the Nanab Berry spawned through Harvest will become a Salac Berry instead. The spawned berry grants the same movement speed boost as the field berry, plus the Nanab Berry healing and boosts.
If Harvest is used while the Dragon Dance boost is in effect, the boosts are imparted onto the Berry dropped, granting you or the ally the same boost.
Eating the Dragon Dance boosted berry resets the duration of the boost on yourself.
While Dragon Dance+ is active, each KO reduces the cooldown of Harvest by 6 seconds, whether you or an ally scored the KO with the boost.
While Tropius may not look like it, everything about its physiology suggests that it is a dragon. Four legs, long neck, and a set of wings define a dragon, even though it’s lacking a big tail for the most part. Yet, that doesn’t stop it from learning Dragon Dance, which grants it a pretty sizable buff to its Attack, Sp. Attack, and Movement Speed.
However, Tropius is too weak to use these boosts effectively, especially since it’s supposed to be a Supporter. The idea is to instead impart these effects into the berry you drop through Harvest, which grants your allies the same buff to their stats, along with a 15% heal and slight boost to their defenses. If you feed the Dragon Dance boosted berry to a reliable ally, you and that player can certainly tear things apart together and spread ruin, like actual dragons from mythology.
Just like Synthesis, Dragon Dance changes the berry you can make from a Nanab Berry into a Salac Berry. The newly formed berry grants the same boost to your Movement Speed, but also adds in the healing and defense boost of the Nanab Berry. But if you were to do this and then spawn the berry while Dragon Dance is active, you’ll spawn a Salac Berry that combines the movement speed boost, the healing, the defense boost, and the attack boost of all three abilities and berries. Who needs a laboratory to make a super serum when you’ve got Tropius cooking in the kitchen?
Just make sure the berry doesn’t get stolen.
I should also quickly mention that Dragon Dance+ increases all the boosts as an upgrade but also makes it easier to reduce the cooldown of Harvest. With each KO you or an ally get while under the effects of Dragon Dance+, the cooldown of Harvest is reduced by 6 seconds. In a standard battle, landing a full team wipe is enough to completely reset the cooldown of Harvest, so go crazy with that hearty superfood you’ve grown all by yourself.
-
At Level 7, Leaf Tornado becomes either Leaf Storm or Air Slash.
Move 2a: Leaf Storm (Area)
Summon a hurricane of leaves at the designated area, dealing damage constantly for 5 seconds. Reduces the enemy’s vision while they are within Leaf Storm. 8.5s cooldown.
At Level 12, Leaf Storm becomes Leaf Storm+.
Expands the area of effect.
Leaf Storm deals moderate continuous damage over time within an area of effect. Enemies within also have their vision obscured while the move is active.
Just like Leaf Tornado, Leaf Storm’s vision obscuring effect is caused by the move itself and not as a hindrance inflicted on the enemy. This means that Full Heal and other hindrance protection will not stop the vision obscuring effect of Leaf Storm. Umbreon’s Mean Look works in the exact same way.
Leaf Storm+ slightly increases the area of effect.
While Leaf Tornado was just kind of plain in its damage and effect, Leaf Storm is a pretty beefy upgrade as it more than doubles in size and damage. A massive whirlwind of leaves obscures the vision of all enemies within, which cannot be cleared by hindrance protection as it is an effect of the move itself and not a hindrance inflicted on them.
While the move is pretty big, it can still be walked out of as it doesn’t apply any other effect to enemies caught in the attack. However, Leaf Storm is a secret counter to sure hit moves, as they require visible enemies to be in range, but Leaf Storm prevents such moves from being used. This is why things like Absol’s Sucker Punch and Dragonite’s Hyper Beam cannot hit invisible enemies like Inteleon or Phantom Force Dragapult as they cannot see the enemy and cannot lock on. If you get the feeling that the enemy will run similar sure hit moves like that, Leaf Storm can be a bigger boon than it may seem, helping your team out.
Plus, the ability to deal continuous damage in a wide area is very useful for securing objectives like Regieleki, especially when boosted by Dragon Dance. Just, remember that Tropius still has pretty low stats, so don’t go thinking you’ll be scaring any Defenders or All-Rounders away with your whirligig lawn trimmings.
-
Move 2b: Air Slash (Ranged/Hindrance)
Unleashes a projectile blade made of air in the designated direction, Stunning an enemy briefly. 5.5s cooldown.
At Level 12, Air Slash becomes Air Slash+.
The size of the explosion effect increases, making it possible to stun multiple enemies.
Air Slash creates an explosion of turbulence at the point of impact, stunning an enemy for 0.5 seconds.
Air Slash+ increases the size of this explosion, making it possible to stun multiple enemies. However, the size is not that great and enemies would have to be huddled together in order to stun multiple at once.
The projectile explodes on contact with the first target it hits.
A long range Stun attack is not an uncommon attack in Pokemon Unite. Mr. Mime’s Confusion, Pikachu’s Thunderbolt, and Espeon’s Psyshock all have similar effects, but unfortunately, this is really all Tropius can muster as a move.
It’s not a bad move, per se, it’s just a bit on the underwhelming side. I mean, Supporters aren’t expected to deal big damage, right? It’s ok if a Supporter can do enough by stunning enemies from far away, even if it’s not a unique effect. After all, the surprisingly low cooldown makes it easy to use repeatedly, and the long range means it can be used safely from a distance.
It also creates a lot of turbulence when combined with your boosted basic attack after a few berries. 5.5 seconds of cooldown may seem like so little time, but in the heat of battle, you’re going to be fending off Speedsters and All-Rounders wishing you had just a microsecond of more time to fire off another Air Slash. That’s why, on top of either Synthesis or Dragon Dance, you utilize your boosted basic attack to calm down the entire crowd of enemies in front of you and run off to create some space.
Causing mass stuns and debuffs is one of two sides to the coin that is playing as a Supporter, with providing great boons and healing being the other half. However you play as Tropius, you are playing as a fully realized team player.
-
Unite Move: An Apple A Day (Buff/Recovery)
The user eats a Big Apple, restoring HP and resetting the cooldown of your moves and Harvest. After a while, an Apple is dropped to the ground where the user is. When an ally eats this Apple, their HP is restored by 25% and the cooldown of their moves is reset and is prevented from going on cooldown for 4.5 seconds.
An Apple A Day restores Tropius’s HP by 40% and fully resets the cooldown of all of your moves as well as Harvest.
After 10 seconds, a regular sized Apple drops where Tropius is, which can then be eaten by one of your allies. This can be seen as an Apple Icon displayed over your head and slowly fills in like a clock. Tropius itself cannot eat this Apple, as it is too full from eating a Big Apple.
When an ally eats the Apple, the cooldown of their moves is reset and prevented from going on cooldown for 4.5 seconds. Enemies and allies will see this effect active with an Apple Icon over their head.
Enemies cannot eat the dropped Apple. The Apple lingers on the ground for 15 seconds before disappearing.
If you’re wondering why ‘Big’ and ‘Apple’ is capitalized, that’s because this Unite Move is a reference to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. While the items in those games didn’t really restore your HP, they granted a major boost to your stamina, fighting off hunger and helping you stay in the adventure for longer.
However, in Pokemon Unite, An Apple A Day does two different things for Tropius and the team. First, it restores a huge chunk of your HP immediately, as the apple is big enough to completely fill up your belly. Not only that, it resets the cooldown of all of your moves and your Harvest ability, allowing you to get some extra healing if required. However, it’s not a Berry, so it doesn’t affect your basic attack and level it up or anything.
Speaking of Harvest, since Tropius just ate a huge fruit, it’ll make one of its own and drop off a regular sized Apple in front of itself soon after. However, Tropius’ belly is way too full for it to eat again, so it’ll stay there for your allies to take instead. And when they take it, they’ll find that not only does it restore their HP, it’ll also reset the cooldown of all of their moves and even keep those moves from going on cooldown for 4.5 seconds!
Four and a half seconds is a very small amount of time to work with, but it’s just long enough for a teammate to do some serious damage, especially if an Attacker or Speedster ate the Apple. It could also really help out a Defender or an All-Rounder single-handedly win a fight against the entire enemy team, provided you give back up with either Leaf Storm or Air Slash. And don’t worry about dine and dashers, as the Apple can only be eaten by your teammates.
Speaking of which, for such a powerful effect, 10 seconds is a long time to wait for the apple to drop to the ground. It’s not like you can just pop the Big Apple and immediately grants your teammates a 4.5 second round of Fully Fury Mode. The Unite Move has to be premeditated, especially as part of a plan of attack. Depending on who you’ve coordinated with, An Apple A Day can either win the battle, or lose the war.
Nature provides a bounty for those who take care of it, but it cannot be rushed. Protect Tropius, and Tropius will provide for you.
-
Achievements
Heal over 5000 HP to your teammates in a single battle.
As a Supporter, Tropius employs healing or self boosting moves along with some disruptive attacks, but that’s all it has. At least, that’s all it would have without Harvest. The ability to create and mix berries together with Harvest is what grants Tropius a unique role in Pokemon Unite, separate from other Supporters.
By dutifully providing berries to your allies and healing them, you are not only fulfilling the role of a Supporter, but also able to sustain yourself. Now, in order to use Harvest liberally throughout the match, you need to reduce the cooldown of the ability as much as you can, as often as you can. And you can do that by eating berries yourself and slinging your basic attack all over the place.
Mastering Synthesis or Dragon Dance+ is also helpful in reducing the cooldown of Harvest, so this Achievement covers a lot of bases in helping players learn how to play Tropius.
-
Holowear
Tropius really loves fruit, and thankfully, so do we humans. There’s a lot of career choices out there for the lovable tree dino, so let’s see what Tropius can pull off in a professional setting. First off, Farmer Style Holowear gives it a frayed straw hat and a checkered flannel shirt under a pair of overalls tailored to its body shape. To actually process the fruits of its labor, Cook Style Holowear dresses it up in a chef’s hat and overcoat, along with a dainty little red ascot. Maybe it can learn to relax a bit and go with Vacation Style Holowear, giving it an undiscerning cap and glasses and a cheeky Hawaiian tee. Perhaps with Waiter Style Holowear, it can serve juicy appetizers in a professional vest and tie, and a platter balanced delicately on its head. And lastly, Fruit Style Holowear makes Tropius resemble a Brazilian dancer with a bright red dress, along with one of those hats absolutely overflowing with fruit, but instead of fruit its berries, since actual fruits don’t exist. Nope, none, especially not bananas and apples. Nuh uh.
However Tropius brings you fruit, it’ll serve while serving up looks. Gotta look fancy and fresh while delivering fancy fresh fruits, you know?
-
Strategy
Supporters have one job, and that’s the support the team, either by healing or buffing their teammates or by disrupting the opposing team. Tropius is made by its Harvest ability, the ability to spawn a Nanab berry that can restore their HP and boost their defenses for a short while. These spawned Nanab berries can be crossbred and enhanced by eating other berries or by using them while under the effects of a boost. As such, diligent supporting requires that you master this ability, as I’ve explained before in the Achievements section.
The cooldown of the Harvest ability is a whopping 30 seconds, but it goes down a bit when you deal damage with your basic attack and each time you eat a berry, including the one Harvest spawns. However, those berries better serve your allies than yourself, so you need to be constantly in the fight and save the field berries for yourself to keep Harvest’s cooldown low. At the beginning of the game, Growth lowers the cooldown by a meager 3 seconds, but if the Harvest ability is ready to use, you can use it to power up the Nanab berry Harvest spawns. It’s very useful to power up yourself or a teammate for when the enemy Jungler shows up in your lane.
Because of your passive nature as a Supporter, Tropius reaches its full potential sooner than other pokemon. By that I mean that your movekit is fully loaded at level 7, and the moves are fully upgraded at level 12. But what moves to run will depend on what the team composition of both yours and your opponents looks like. A bulky crew of Defenders and All-Rounders can easily be saved with a well placed Synthesis, and diligent healing cuts down a lot of Harvest’s cooldown time. Dragon Dance, however, is very useful to power up ally ranged Attackers, allowing them to deal more damage from afar along with a mild defense boost for safety. Plus, Dragon Dance+ gives you the biggest cooldown reduction to Harvest when you or an ally KO an enemy while under the effect of the boost, rewarding hyper aggressive offense and pushes.
Leaf Storm and Air Slash aren’t the toughest choices to pick, as neither one is any more effective or ineffective than the other. Like mentioned before, Leaf Storm blinds the enemy team caught in the attack, rendering their sure hit moves useless until they can leave. Air Slash is a long range Stun attack, of which there are already a lot of those moves in the game, so it’s only useful when providing back-up for a melee attacker or Defender on your team. These disruptive moves work very well with your basic attack though, as it Stuns and slows enemies down with each boosted hit. It needs 3 hits to become boosted though, making it really slow, and requires a healthy diet of berries to become substantially boosted as well, but if you know how to stay alive, you can provide some valuable cover fire for your allies with it and Leaf Storm or Air Slash.
The Unite Move, An Apple A Day, is a different beast altogether, as it provides a unique effect of powering up your teammates to an insane level. Firstly, it heals a lot of HP, which can save your butt in the heat of battle, and it also resets the cooldown of all of your moves and Harvest. Combined with Synthesis and Harvest spawning a Nanab Berry, this Unite Move is the first ever instance of ‘burst healing’ (Goodra can also burst heal, but you’d need to deal direct damage to enemies with Dragon Pulse and has to hit enemies bogged down by Gooey, so it sort of doesn’t count, sort of). After finishing off the apple, Tropius will spawn another one meant for your teammates, which also heals and resets the cooldown of all of their moves as well. Not only that, the apple keeps their moves from going on cooldown for 4.5 seconds, allowing them to go absolutely insane with their moves. Speedsters will start zipping around like their hitting the peak of a sugar rush, Attackers will unload shot after shot of high powered attacks, Defenders will start shoving enemies around like a broom on a dusty floor, and All-Rounders will go buck wild with impunity. Of course, it requires proper coordination to pull it off, and you’re putting a lot of faith in your teammates to do what is necessary, but good supporting requires meeting your allies in the middle and expecting them to do their part after you’ve done yours.
All Tropius wants to do all day is eat fruit, but it can help its friends out by sharing its spoils with them. Keeping your friends happy and healthy and providing them with the bounty of nature is what an altruistic supporter aims to do. Take care of nature, and it will take care of you.
-
And that’s Tropius for Pokemon Unite! Hey so here’s a fun fact, there was a leak a long while ago about Tropius that might’ve shown that it was coming to Pokemon Unite, but we never got an update on that story. Supposedly, there was data for it to suggest that it might’ve been playable in a future update, but later updates removed it. It didn’t stop me from making and posting this, though I would’ve been very miffed if it turns out that Tropius was indeed coming to the game at a moment where this draft was almost done. Glad I held out.
That’s not to say that it can’t happen. I mean, someone has to like this fruit dinosaur enough that there were plans to put it into the game. Maybe we’ll be seeing playable Tropius next year, or the year after that, who knows.
Anyway, I’ve got other posts to finish. Hope you enjoyed the read. See ya!

Summary: — "But we all ate grub that turned our stomachs. Dandelion puked once or twice too, and on one occasion Cahir got the runs so badly he feared it was dysentery." (Baptism of Fire by Andrzej Sapkowski)
"For fuck's sake, have you been listening to me at all?" Milva's voice cuts through the silence like an extra sharp blade.
"What?" Startled, her companion looks up at the archer who has been riding next to him for a while now.
"I've been trying to talk to you, Nilfgaardian!"
"Sorry," he apologises to his not a little annoyed friend. "I - I don't feel so great. Must have eaten something ..." Cahir's voice peters out weakly as he averts his eyes again. He does not look so great, either, Milva realises, unusually pale even for his standards and sweaty although they are riding at a leisurely pace and it is not especially warm today. What is even more worrying, her friend did not react at all to her calling him a Nilfgaardian. Which he keeps insisting he is not at every occasion. He isn't sick, is he? Before Milva can ask what is wrong with him, though, Cahir suddenly heaves a moan. He doubles up, clutching at his stomach and inhaling sharply through clenched teeth.
"Shit, I'll get Regis, he'll know what to do," she says with sudden concern in her voice.
"No, it's nothing," Cahir pants, "I just ..." He does not finish the sentence but half scrambles, half falls off his chestnut colt and, kneeling on the forest path, starts to vomit violently.

@regis-favorite-raven
Here are your answers
Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
In some stories, yes. For some stories I know exactly where this will be headed and have excessive plannings ahead. Other stories are the type, where I plan the next chapter, when done with the preceeding one, without much of a plan where I am going.
Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic
It usually starts either with an idea or a scene. Sometimes I see a scene – a moment – in my mind and there we go. I usually want to know how the characters ended up in that situation, and also what comes after. That’s why I love long stories that take the time to show where that journey led.
In some cases I have too many disjointed details and pen them down, to get a sense of what happened when, in other cases I am much mire like ““It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” (Tolkien) and just write and see where the journey takes me.
what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
Be detailed. Write with your senses. Show/Describe what the characters see and experience. Give the reader a picture of the place the characters are in.
17. What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)
I play some ARPG (Diablo, PoE) or MMO (TESO) and listen to music while playing, letting different options of what might happen run through my brain. Imagine this, imagine that. If Emhyr had eaten the poisoned apple, what would have happened? If he had handed the apple to the Lord Chancellor, how would have that played out? Emhyr as snow-white… in this case. In very hard to crack cases, I take my phone, sit myself down on the bus, listen to music and ride the bus until the right idea has found me.

[pm] Yeah. makes sense. It's good that you want to help, though. Think she could use all the help she can get.
Well, I found one Regis Coleslaw for her, but I killed them. They were [...] a rabid vampire. And they tried to eat me. But she did still pay me for it.
Okay. That's good. That's really good. I'll find you something to do. I'll [...] get a TV or something. You can watch it here. [...] Zombie. Looked like it hadn't eaten in a while, so it didn't have much of a mind left. I'm looking for it now.
[PM] I don't know why they do anything. I suspect they are the stupidest person I've ever met. But I like that about them. I still wish to help them.
That's a dumb name. Maybe we can find Regis and help them too. Double the paycheck.
[User feels bad for being a dick before] right. I stayed in anyway. This town is dumb and doesn't have things to do. What was it? Do you need help finding it?

we need some more of those geralt’s company journeying through the marshland “what-if”s: the alternate routes they had expected or planned for, but ultimately didn’t take.
like what if: milva decided to go through with the abortion, and had to wait it out in a village as she expected. natural abortifacients are pretty brutal, and what follows, too, so regis would have had to stay with her, potentially splitting the company? or would the rest of the company also set down their quest for weeks and stayed with her. and villages at this time were none-too-safe either, what with the nilfgaardian invasion…
or what if: they indeed went through ysgith as previously planned. would dandelion have gotten eaten by a man-eating orchid? would milva still have miscarried, but this time from being exposed to poison gas? how would have geralt’s animosity and distrust towards cahir played out when things hungering for human flesh are all around them and it would be really easy to push him into that swamp? how would the pain in geralt’s knee play out in this humid environment? would they get a free pass by some monsters, if regis looked back behind the company with a stern, disapproving expression?
or what if: they couldn’t all cross the jaruga like geralt expected, and according to his plan, he and regis had to be the only ones that crossed and ventured on, alone together to go see the druids (which were farther away than they planned)? what would have happened to milva, cahir, and dandelion, left behind? if they didn’t participate in the battle of the bridge, then the rivian troops would have fled, and so nilfgaard wouldn’t have been driven back from the jaruga—affecting trade routes as the war carried on?
or what if: they didn’t stop in riedbrune and were not warned of the attack, and went straight to belhaven, walking right into the planned ambush by nightingale? would angoulême have indeed shot geralt in the back with a crossbow? or would his witcher senses have allowed him to pre-empt the attack? what if they really got captured by nilfgaardian agents then?
what if they never stayed in beauclair, or left early as geralt had inclined. they would have all frozen to death in the mountain passes (or, well, all of them save for regis, who is invulnerable to freezing)
there were a lot of uncertainties along their journey.
#vampyrodes and other things that creep in darkness: we are eating good tonight#regis: hits them with the 🤨 face#vampyrodes etc: understandable have a nice day#or a. nice night#i have some AU ideas about the ysgith one but i dont like them for the same reason i dont like zomb apocalypse AUs#too disturbing and no point to it but torture p-rn#the elbow-high diaries#i went ahead and took the liberty of assuming they pick the core guys up#that being milva regis and cahir#and assumed also no one died#what if the arrow moved two inches to the right#but like i mean milva could have stayed in brokilon#meaning geralt and dandelion might have died from those hawkers#or cahir could have gotten killed by those bandits#or they could have not stayed in fen carn and not met regis and then where would milva and dandelion be hmm#regis joins company. free healthcare acquired.#the fact that they could have met angouleme as an enemy gets me#like milva could have shot her dead 💀#she was literally a part of the guys planning to kill them 😇

Because I want all your CorNyx kisses, how about 31? ♥️
31. …after a small rejection
Cor put his hand over his eyes and made himself take a deep breath. As satisfying as screaming would feel, he didn’t need the attention it would bring. The last few days had been an absolute clusterfuck and it didn’t seem like things were going to get better any time soon.
The fucking council.
Not that Cor wanted Regis to act like his asshole father, but sometimes he wished Regis would put the fear of himself in them so they stopped making his life more difficult. Or at least let him tell them to go fuck themselves.
Rumors of Niff agent activity had been rampant, and Monica had their people working all shifts tracking every available lead. Which left him to deal with the panicking council members, who were convinced there must be Niff assassins lurking around every corner to kill them in their sleep. Every available guard not tracking down actual leads was being assigned to bolster security to stop their whining. It had been a while since the guard was so stretched and Cor didn’t miss it.
He’d actually been sleeping on the couch in his office for the past two days to keep on top of things, which was doing his back no favors. He’d asked Drautos for some assistance from the glaive, but most of them were out in the field on some offensive. Drautos had assigned the ones that he had available, but the ones with proper clearance were few and far between. And he couldn’t put them on security for the council members without making everything worse.
He needed a nap, in an actual bed. But he wasn’t going to get one, not anytime soon.
There was a knock on his door, and Cor scrubbed at his face before lifting his head. He hoped he didn’t look as wiped as he felt.
“Come in!”
Nyx walked through, smile on his face. “Hey, stranger. Long time no see.”
Cor’s lips twitched upward without his input. Nyx had been away on a mission for weeks, and Cor had lost track of when he was due back. It was good to see him.
“Do you want to go grab some dinner? We could try out that new restaurant, see if the seafood is as good as advertised. Or maybe Yamachang’s instead? Though the others would probably be all up in our business if we went there. I hear there’s a new bar a few blocks from here, we could see how bad their Galahdan whiskey is.”
Cor frowned as Nyx went on, cheerfully listing their options as the pressure behind his eyes spiked. He was happy to see Nyx, truly he was, but his energy was just making him more exhausted.
“Nyx!” Cor snapped. “Stop! I don’t have time for any of that!”
Nyx froze, hands still in the air where they had been gesturing. Cor watched as Nyx’s expression shuttered, burying the genuine happiness under a polite mask.
“Of course, I know you’re busy. I’m sorry, I’ll let you get back to work.” Nyx backed up slowly, polite smile never leaving his face.
Cor grimaced as shame stabbed through him. Nyx didn’t deserve to have Cor take out his frustrations on him. He stood and reached out to grab Nyx before he could leave.
“Nyx, I’m sorry.” Cor moved his hand from Nyx’s arm to his shoulder. “You didn’t deserve that. It’s been a long fucking week, and I wish I had time to welcome you back like I want, but things are insane.” He shook his head.
“I can see you’re tired.” Nyx’s smile this time was more genuine. “I’m sorry for coming at you with all these plans when you’re so swamped.”
Cor shook his head and gave into temptation. He leaned in to kiss Nyx while running his fingers through his braids. He pulled away to rest their foreheads together. “I did miss you.”
Nyx huffed. “I missed you, too, clearly. We can try one of those places when things have calmed down.” Nyx brushed a hand over his cheek. “Until then, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Have you eaten?”
Cor shook his head sheepishly.
Nyx sighed. “No wonder you’re a little grumpy. I’ll be right back with something from the mess hall, lay down on your couch and close your eyes until I get back.”
Cor let Nyx push him towards the couch, but pulled him down for one last kiss before letting him out the door.

Bite me slowly
Regis x reader
Warnings: Vampire things, sexual, intimate, smut, blood, abo, swearing, biting
You struggled over the days and nights. You were stuck in your bed, panting and sweating, you hated heats. You prayed this one would be over quickly but it was your third day now. You barely managed to eat or drink, limbs like jelly and mind foggy.
You cursed anything that was effort, you hated this.
You knew nobody would come by, no doubt smelling your heat already, these houses weren’t made for full privacy, the cracks, lack of windows, sorry excuses for doors.
Night time finally came and you laid on your stomach, staring at the moon and sighing at the cool air blowing through. A hesitant knock came to your door and you froze.
“Are you an idiot?” You called in anger and huffed.
“I like to think not” you shuddered at the voice. You cursed the vampire over and over not bothering to get out of bed.
“Regis go away” you sighed.
“In case you haven’t noticed- I’m in heat you-“ you grumbled off closing your eyes.
“Calm thoughts” you muttered.
“Unless you have a magic cure, piss off!” You said a little more firmly not hearing the door open.
“Or some form of medicine” you sighed.
“I’m afraid I don’t dear” you jumped at the closeness of his voice and looked up. He stood by your bedroom entrance, clutching his satchel.
“Regis” you huffed rolling onto your side. You were thankful for the sheet covering your naked body.
“I know you’re difficult but, please, leave me alone and come back, when it’s over” you huffed.
“You can’t help me” you grumbled wondering why the hell he decided to enter your house in the first place.
“Have you eaten? Drank anything?” You cursed him and shook your head covering your eyes with your hand.
“Thought so” he said his footsteps quiet. You heard some rattling and water before he came back with a tray.
You managed to sit up clutching the sheet around you, ready to yell at him. He laid down the tray on your bed side table as you glared.
“Regis, I say this as a friend and respect, get the fuck out” you shuddered slightly catching a hint of his scent. You sagged a bit, head falling forward as you groaned in pain. Cold fingers touched your cheeks and you frowned lifting your head. Regis stood eyes staring into yours, his normal soft gaze gone and replaced by a hard stare. Your eyes were wide, his hands cupping your face and practically holding your head up.
“And I do this out of the most disrespect to our friendship” you frowned at those words, his voice rough. You froze when lips pressed to yours, your hand had shot up to grip his wrist as he kissed you. He tilted your head gently, forcing your mouth open as he deepened the kiss. You let out a needy noise, melting instantly now. He pulled back and you panted resting your heads weight in his hands. You sighed as he tilted your head back slightly again to look at you.
“What are you doing?” You whispered panting.
“Something I should’ve done years ago” he muttered pressing his lips to yours again. The sheet you clutched was a pile by your waist, your top half exposed in the moonlight.
You couldn’t lift your body up on your own, you wanted to stand so he didn’t have to bend. You wanted to wrap your arms around him, feel his skin.
“Regis” you muttered as his lips went down your neck. Though no fear showed, despite his nature, you weren’t afraid if he’d bite you.
“Hush” he muttered and you sighed. His lips pressed against yours briefly before he stood straight again. You stared at him, waiting and wanting. Your body was trembling, covered in sweat and needing. Your sex ached, clenched around nothing, you’d never had anyone help you in this before, no man or woman. He shrugged off his satchel and other bag before unbuttoning his coat. You watched his fingers, he was teasing, seeing how much self control you had. Your fingers twitched wanting to hurry his pace up but didn’t give in as you met his eyes and kept his gaze. His eyes were dark, face light up by the moonlight by your bedroom window. You kept his gaze as he shrugged off his clothes, you could see his toned body through your peripheral vision, you didn’t move your eyes though, kept them on his. His lips twitched upwards slightly in a smirk as he came closer again. He cocked his head slightly gesturing for you to lay down. You managed to find strength and shuffled back to lie down. You stared at the ceiling heart pounding in your chest. The bed dipped but you didn’t dare look as Regis moved a top of you. His face finally came into view and you gulped slightly. You lifted your shaky hands and rested them on his arms, you sighed finally able to hold something sturdy. The sheet was between you both as he settled between your hips and kissed you again. You gripped his arms again, closed your eyes and gladly kissed back. You chased him almost, demanding for a deeper kiss before he parted. You let out a small noise of protest but silenced yourself. He stared at you a moment, going over your features like he’d never seen them before. You squirmed a little under his intense eyes, one of his arms moved from your hold, he lifted himself and removed the sheet between you. You were lying there bare, you looked away biting the back of your free hand. Your mind ran a bit before a hand trailed up your side, you shuddered at the touch of cool against heat. Lips pressed against your exposed neck, he sucked a little harshly leaving a mark no doubt. It made your heart jump and stomach clench at the thought. His hand was gentle as it moved up your side and down, over your hip and to your thigh. He cupped and pulled upwards so your leg bent. He pressed his body against yours again, his hand move down to your knee and lifting it a a bit higher, you moved now, moving your leg so it was around his waist. He bit down a little more on your neck when you did before easing off. His hand went back to your thigh, clenching, his strength almost bruising. You turned your head back and he met your gaze again. You moved your hand to rest it on his cheek, you sighed slightly suddenly wondering if this was a dream.
He frowned at your saddened gaze before moving. You didn’t have full time to register before he slid in. You gasped, hands flying to his shoulders as you clasped them. His head fell to your neck as he panted. Tears welled in your eyes at the feeling. You panted and tried to relax as he finally hushed you gently.
“I’m all too real” he muttered and you nodded letting out a small sob.
“I’m sorry” he added quietly kissing the corner of your eyes.
“Relax” he soothed gently stroking your cheek. You shuddered and sighed finally catching your breath, your body slowed and you finally began to relax.
“That’s it” he mumbled quietly. He kissed you again, gently this time the hand on your cheek wiping away any stray tears. Your hips rocked on their own, you let out another small noise at the feeling. You felt him shiver as you slowly moved your hips. You could feel the sting lessening, you closed your eyes, feeling them roll slightly. You wanted him to move but he didn’t, you tried to move quicker but your body was weak. He finally moved, lifting his hips up before sliding back in. You moaned quietly biting your tongue as you held back your voice and pants. His pace was slow, making sure you got use to him. Your hands had fallen from his shoulders, you gripped the sheets under you instead. You stopped biting your tongue when it was hard to keep up with breathing, you panted softly, his lips dancing around your neck as he set a pace. His free hand grabbed yours, pressed it flat against the bed and intertwined his fingers with yours. You gripped his hand tightly, you couldn’t open your eyes, the feelings were too much. His free hand grabbed your other hand, he pushed them both above your head and snapped his hips. You moaned loudly, broken off with a cry at the end. You gripped his hands tightly, you almost feared you’d break them. He didn’t care though, Regis kept his quick, hard pace and made sure you couldn’t hold your voice back. He snarled and you slowly opened your eyes, his face was morphing between vampire and human, he was loosing his control too. You bared your neck suddenly shuddering as he froze.
“Don’t-“ he muttered trailing off with a soft snarl. You looked to him, eyes telling him it was ok if he needed too. His face morphed again, vampire now eyes black. He snarled this time and you tilted your head once again. His hips snapped as he bit down. You came with a cry clenching his hands above your head, your body tensed and shook. He kept his pace though before warmth filled you, his body shuddered as he let go of your neck. His tongue swiped out over the wound as he panted in your ear.
You moved your head back too look at him, he panted above you eyes closed as he regained his control. He shook his head slightly, his face normal again. He finally opened his eyes and met your gaze, his hands let yours go and you moved to cup his face. He closed his eyes, leaned into one of your hands and sighed gently. His forehead rested against yours and you closed your eyes also basking in this moment. He moved slowly, lifted his head and hips, pulling out. You clenched your jaw letting out a small huff afterwards. You felt the pain gone, your body relaxed and your heat had lessened. Regis laid beside you, you were limp, you didn’t want to move. You did though, forced yourself body to lay on its side and closer to Regis. You heard him chuckle lightly but he gladly accepted your needs to be held. You closed your eyes, ready for sleep again before your heat came back. You tried to stay awake, jumped slightly when you fell too quickly into sleep. You shuffled closer to Regis, tucked yourself under his neck and stuck your knee between his. His arm rested around your waist, his fingers gently tracing your back.
“Tickles” you mumbled squirming slightly.
“Apologise dear” he said softly and stopped.
“Sleep, you need it” he added quietly and you hummed in response.
“Don’t go” you muttered.
“I’m not going anywhere” he said sincerely as you drifted off.

FFXV AU: Valse Di Fantastica
A short from the Lion, the Coeurl and the Cub AU
——-
“Un-fucking-believable.” Noctis hisses, chin on his elbow with his eyes fixed on the moving landscape by the side of the car.
“You are being absolutely immature, Noctis. What ever happened to being an understanding spouse?” Luna looks towards his direction.
“That understanding spouse got eaten. By that…THING.”
Gladio who is stuck on the other end of the Regalia, blatantly ignores his charges. He flips a page of his novel like nothing is wrong in the world. Ignis glances at them momentarily in the mirror before focusing on the driving once more.
“Now you are just being rude. Think about it, this wouldn’t have happened if you simply- ”
“I can’t do this. I am getting a divorce.”
“You guys aren’t even married though?” Prompto chirps at the two royals. The gunner turns around from his seat, making sure to take a picture while he did.
“Says the one whose dads eloped.” The prince groans into his hand.
There, in the backseat of the car, were Noctis, Lunafreya and Gladio in that specific order. Also. One large Kenny Crow plush in the hands of the Oracle. Plus, it squeaks.
“See.If you have simply agreed to let me place it in your Armiger-“
“That THING is not coming near any of my magic- No. No. Nope. Fat NOPE.” Noctis looks at the horrifying plush toy with disdain. As if it were made of beans and carrots melded together by daemons, rather than simply cotton. The mascot’s beady black eyes digging into the depths of his soul. “Besides, where did you even get the money?! Specs is so stingy with our gil funds, how on Eos did you convince him to buy that??”
“I’m afraid that assumption is very much untrue, your Highness.” Oh,sassy Ignis is here.”I most certainly did not allow this…sad circumstance to happen. It was Prompto who had bought the merchandise for the Lady.”
“PROMPTO LEONIS YOU HAD FUNDS?!” Noctis shouts at his best friend in dismay, half leaping out of his spot, shoving the Kenny Crow off from his face.
“Indeed he did. Without even telling us. For that, I’m afraid Prompto’s right in deciding dinner has been forfeit.” Ignis remarks nonchalantly, while Prompto gapes at the advisor before bemoaning he was innocent and it was all unintentional.
“Dad just gave me some gil! And I saw Luna really liked it, so I figured why not? She never had a Kenny crow toy before either.”
“See? Prompto is such a gentleman! You should be more like him, Noct.” Luna smiles sweetly, squeezing a CAW out of the large humanoid crow toy.
Noctis scowls at it. Before glaring at his blond friend,”traitor.”
“Again, why am I being deprived of so many privileges in this party?” Prompto complains as he tilts over the top of his seat precariously with no sense of self preservation.
“You are not driving, Prom. We said it many times. ‘No Leonis will touch the Regalia’s driver seat’, those were the King’s words. And my Dad’s. And Cid’s.” Gladio reminds his pouting friend. The Shield smirks back at the pouting gunslinger who sticks his tongue out at him like the mature 20 year old he is. “All it took was one father to crash it and his son to make it break down in the middle of the highway.”
“Ya’all mean.” Prompto sulks, slinking back in his seat proper.
Luna quietly inches the Kenny Crow beside Noctis’ face and squeezes a CAW at him.

Somewhere else far from the young crew, in Cape Caem where the older crew are guarded by some glaives and guards. Cor Leonis lets out a couple of soft sneezes while dressing some new bandages for Nyx. Whose arm is still looking grim and severely scarred by the Ring’s magic. The Galahdian just thinks his new tattoo that he’s sporting looks pretty amazing. Cor is not impressed.
“Cold?” Nyx looks at his husband concerned. They cannot afford being sick now.
“No, just felt like someone is talking behind my back.” With that, he resumes pulling the gauze.
“Ah. Could be anyone?”
“Regis, most likely.”

Ruby Weapon Headcanons
Verstael made a diet for him that was bland, strict, and exactly balanced for nutrients. So while he’s always eaten food, it’s never been seasoned, greasy, sugary (outside of some fruits), and always had low to no fat content. When he first escapes from Verstael’s labs, he can’t eat most types of regular prepared foods. But once he gets to where it doesn’t make him sick, he really enjoys spicy things, because of how different and stimulating they are. However, his favorite sweet always remains berries with some whipped cream, and he never really manages a taste for greasy things or sweet sauces.
Ardyn’s dna is too unstable from the scourge to clone directly from it. But the stable material can be separated from the unstable. To be able to Clone Ruby, he combined Ardyn’s dna with other Lucis Caelum dna, to keep the blood pure so he would theoretically still have magic. He got this dna both from blood and tissue from Regis Ardyn collected after defeating him during the invasion attempt in Episode Ardyn, as well as from medical records gathered from Fenestala manor on Noctis. Even a Ruby raised perfectly healthy would be shorter and slighter than Ardyn because of this. This is not based on any research by yours truly, just Jurassic Park logic.
Ruby is aware of his origins because of Verstael’s tendency to monologue. It has given him a sense of identity separate from Ardyn wit his own personality, At the same time he doesn’t not consider Ardyn , Regis, or Noctis “parents in anyway. More accurately he sees himself as a collage of them. An artificial amalgam of their traits.
Until convinced otherwise Ruby doesn’t see himself as a real child. Rather he sees himself as a separate entity that happens to have sentience. His desire to escape is based in the desire to pretend to be a child, rather than the belief that he is one.
As a privilege for good behavior Verstael would allow him free access to the libraries on Lab Campus. These were all non fiction of course, but he managed to find discussions of family leave and how families behave through some of them. In addition to biological books which discussed the need for play and other activities in children and juvenile animals. This is what inspired him to want to escape and do these things himself.
There are possibilities in this verse where he escapes on his own and grows up to be a rather bitter adult.
Ruby is a bit like Data’s Daughter in Star Trek Next Generation, in that it is difficult to place him with the right age group at first, because he has no experience with socialization but also a very advanced education level, barring Art and Literature. (He reads well, but has not had any real contact with fiction outside of myths that potentially connect to Astrals and their weaknesses.)
Though it’s unexpected since he had lessons nearly constantly forced on him, Ruby likes learning new things. The main issue is that he doesn’t like to sit still or inside to learn. Anything involving reading and paper he usually takes outside or near a window when he can, and he will sometimes lose interest if the lesson isn’t active enough or if it is too simple.

Rated T for graphic descriptions of violence, physical torment, events during a POW setting
Chapter Summary: For the first time since being attacked and abducted, Eugene wakes up.
Chapter 10: Never Surrender
The first time Eugene awoke, he had been turned on his side. Someone had placed the tapered part of a large syringe in his mouth. He gagged on the warm stream of saltwater being actively injected and immediately began vomiting, which in turn yanked and pulled and twisted up all of the severed and injured muscles and tissues just below and to the right of his stomach. It felt as if his guts were on fire and actively trying to push themselves out of the wounds that cursed sword had given him. He tried to bring his arms down to fold them around his wound in front but he’d found his wrists were tightly bound with ropes instead.
“It huuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrts,” he howled mournfully, in earshot of whomever was near. Or at least he would’ve howled, had his cry not cut out halfway through. Only then did he realize how stupid he was to have used his voice. Instantly, he became so drained he started shaking. For he not only unwittingly revealed this weakness to his enemy, the action induced Eugene to use the most injured, raw parts of himself. His reaction, however, had at least been visceral, instinctive, and utterly involuntary; he had no control over it. However, if Eugene thought he’d felt nausea and pain before, that was almost nothing compared to how he’d felt in the here and now.
After Eugene had fallen unconscious, he’d clearly and repeatedly aspirated what little stomach contents he possessed into his lungs and sinuses. A pained groan escaped him regardless; His raw throat and sinuses pulsed with a dull throb in the back of his head every time he tried drawing a breath.
“Believe it or not, I am trying to help,” said a tiny voice beside him. “Sometimes, though, it’s gotta get worse before it can feel better,” continued the voice. Gradually, Eugene’s top half was raised at an angle. The old cloth beneath him soaked with blood and vomit was removed and replaced; the fresh one was folded over several times and placed underneath his nose, mouth, chin, and neck. He was still on his side but was given a bolster to put under his ear and top half of his head as further support at this new elevated angle. His shaking slowed slightly. However, in the back of his mind, Eugene still recalled how precarious was his position. Therefore he could not bring himself to trust this mystery medical person. The captain was still bound at the wrists and ankles, after all. He assumed his boots were long gone. There was no way they’d leave footwear accessible for a prisoner -- especially not one they’d have no intention of ever releasing.
Rather than finding any comfort in what had just been said or done by this funny-voiced person, Eugene stiffened as the syringe wielder injected even more saltwater into each nostril. Though Eugene still choked, coughed, and gagged very violently, the entry-and-exit wounds through his midsection were simultaneously given moderate compression from either side until he’d cleared out the last of the salt water. The compression action alone had diminished his pain, nausea, and the nasty sensation that his guts were spilling out by about 30%. And he didn’t throw up again either. For the time being.
“I would cut your bindings, as they’re so useless and even cumbersome,” mumbled the voice, “but Regis would have us both hanged immediately….” Though Eugene struggled valiantly and tried to become an active information-gatherer like his training demanded, nothing proved to him that he was too far out of his element more than the traumas of this particular interaction. Even his own weakness shocked him. Though the name “Regis” had instantaneously provoked distinct emotions from within.
The mystery person again mopped up Eugene’s face from the deluge of saltwater. “I know that was awful,” commiserated the individual, “but I’m betting your throat and sinuses are no longer killing you. That it’s much less painful to breathe, at least from your neck up?”
Eugene said nothing….and only scowled until he did gingerly test breathing…. and it was indeed far easier and less painful now that the aspirated stomach acid had been cleared away. Buuuuuut he had this permanent stitch now, this ache below his right lung….Eugene seriously wondered whether he would ever breathe deeply again.
“Well, that’s all right, playin’ possum,” said the voice. Can’t say as I blame you, nosiree, captain in the enemy camp and all….” and the person bustled about, chattering aloud to Eugene but mostly to himself. “Oh, and my name is Clarence, my designation here is ‘apothecary’, although my duties compass a great deal more.” Was it just Eugene, or did ‘Clarence’ sound a little bitter? Could this be a rift Eugene could press to his advantage? “This possum skill is good,” the Clarence person rejoined, “because the more ill and unconscious you are, the more put-off Regis will be…..I know since he already walked away once due to being so disgusted by the state of you. You were supposed to have been brought whole and unharmed….and Javeen, Regis’s 2nd, truly learned to regret his actions.”
Eugene’s shivering persisted and worsened although it was clearly a warm day outside. He had no earthly idea how much time had passed since he was first abducted nor how long it had been that he’d worn anything from the waist up due to being stripped down by...Javeen, was it? He guesstimated it had been at least two days since he’d eaten or drank anything...but it felt more like 6 or 7 days because of his injuries. As an orphan, Eugene knew well the ravages of starvation. He’d faced it many times as a child and youth and young adult. And this was….not like that. At all. It was infinitely worse.
Though this small apothecary minding Eugene clearly couldn’t match him in size, he removed and shared his tunic nonetheless. Or at least he attempted to share. “I’ve got on several layers,” mumbled the little man….
“Curse it,” the apothecary finished, as he realized Eugene couldn’t possibly be dressed in normal clothing while still bound at the wrists. And a few seconds later, very abruptly, Eugene’s wrists were blissfully cut free of the ropes that had bound him.
In another wholly involuntary action, Eugene automatically turned from his side to his back, his arms fully separating so his chest could expand and he could breathe in the air his oxygen-deprived body so desperately needed.
The apothecary seemed to have anticipated his needs and again gave Eugene compression so as to minimize the sensation his guts were falling out as he greedily sucked in more and more shuddering lungfuls of air. “Oh deary dear, no wonder that was so difficult for you,” the little apothecary fretted. “Broad chests and large arms do not do well for one’s lung capacity when they’re all mashed together. I can’t imagine Adonais himself could handle his wrists being bound in such a way….”
Breathing in as if it were going out of style was exquisitely painful but this pain was also infinitely worth it. Then Eugene coughed and….it was chunky style, i.e. some of the leftover goodies the syringe hadn’t been able to remove earlier. He turned his head to the side and spat it out. “Good!” said the apothecary. “That’s even better than you getting more air. We need you to cough up all of that junk. And breathe as deep as you can, at all times, even when it hurts.”
Unexpectedly Clarence seized Eugene’s hand and placed it around the cushion he’d been using. “Anytime you need to sneeze, cough, or what-have-you, press the cushion against your midsection. It will help a little. Regis’ll just have to hang me then, he can’t very well have me heal you if you’re gonna go off and die of aspiration pneumonia, nosiree…..”
Heal me in order to hurt me, ugh, thought Eugene. Talk about mixed signals. Now that he was laying on his back, Eugene’s head near the base of his skull started throbbing with the renewed pressure. In spite of himself, Eugene reached up with his left hand and felt the back of his scalp.
Clarence continued bustling about. It was registering through Eugene’s pain-haze that this is the same apothecary that had just given him full use of his hands. Even handed him a projectile. Maybe this guy isn’t what he seems? Eugene considered. Nope. NO. Don’t get lulled by a false sense of security. Considering his wounds and the fact his ankles were still bound, Eugene was basically still immobile anyway, even with full use of his hands and arms. Well, almost full use. If he moved his right arm in a certain way, it tugged all the way down to his worst wound and made him see twinkly pain stars in front of his vision. He determined to keep that arm closer toward him at all times to avoid triggering that horrible lightning twinge. And this meant he couldn’t reach down far enough to slip the ropes off his ankles even if he’d tried. Eugene realized the physician knew exactly what he was talking about by deeming the binds “useless”. His prisoner was going nowhere and this little man knew it.
The physician (Eugene had already substituted ‘apothecary’ in his mind) took note of Eugene’s movements. “Ah yes, I see you’ve discovered the other little 'present' Javeen and his men left for you: that nasty goose egg on the back of your head. I advise against making any more sudden movements? I’d hate to see you vomit again.” Fanfriggentastic. Here was yet another thing that explained to Eugene why he was in such rough shape….Javeen’s men had brained him earlier. Although he couldn’t recall when it happened along with why he’d felt so beat-up and bruised all over, everywhere….those things were still a mystery to him.
The physician did his best to dress Eugene in the too-small tunic of his. Again, he apologized -- APOLOGIZED!! -- for it having been all he’d had on-hand. Ill-fitting though it was, Eugene had finally stopped shivering. Once again, Eugene found second thoughts about this strange little man creeping into his consciousness. Next, the physician had grabbed what looked like a Coronian saddle blanket and draped it around Eugene’s shoulders, offering another layer of warmth. It finally caught up to him regarding what that meant; the physician had handily kept him from slipping fully into shock.
He’d also made dang sure that Eugene could breathe as well as could be expected…..by cutting his binds….and whatever that syringe debacle was…..although the process itself was nightmare-ish, it couldn't be denied that everything had worked as intended. Sometimes things have to get worse before they can feel better. Not to mention the man had gone out of his way to ease Eugene’s pain with that cushion compression trick. Already Clarence had engaged in at least two things that were probably directly against protocol by doing just a tiny bit more than the bare minimum.
Clarence steepled his hands and considered Eugene’s positioning. “I’m gonna need better access to that wound on your back,” he said. “Don’t use any of your own power to help me turn you; I’ll do all of the work. Is that clear?”
Eugene shrank a little at such intense scrutiny paired with the direct order….yet said nothing. It was the most demanding Clarence had been thus far. The apothecary sighed shortly, clearly not taking silence for an answer this time.
“I mean it, Mr. Tough Guy. This is one instance where you must be like a living ragdoll and let me do all the rest. Do you think you can handle that?” Clarence paused briefly, appearing to consider something. Eugene simply stared at him. “You can communicate by whispering. Actual whispering, not sotto voce style. It requires far less lung capacity and is unlikely to cause much pain. I say again, do you think you can trust me? Because if you try to ‘help’ even a little, you could cause those wounds to push outside what’s meant to remain inside.”
“Yes,” Eugene whispered without hesitation. He didn’t know exactly what it was about this interesting apothecary that elicited his trust. And then it occurred to him as Clarence very slowly turned his patient's legs to his left side, encouraging Eugene to breathe through the pain: Clarence cares.
Not to mention….Clarence was right; whispering barely hurt Eugene at all….in complete opposition to when he’d shouted earlier upon first waking.
When Clarence went to turn Eugene from right to left by grabbing his right arm, however, they ran into a semi-unexpected snag. This arm, it appeared, could not be pulled...lest it trigger that nasty stitch Eugene had experienced earlier. So the apothecary took the saddle blanket and refashioned it into a type of jacket-sling so Eugene’s right arm was held secure against his chest; now his patient didn’t have to worry about his right arm being at the mercy of whatever gravity felt like doing with it.
With his free arm, Eugene lightly held the cushion against his gut. Then Clarence managed to carefully and successfully roll Eugene’s upper half onto his left side without any additional complications. Eugene was allowed to rest after all the additional activity. His side without the wounds was naturally far more stable and for the first time since awakening, the mere act of breathing didn’t make him wanna pass out from too much pain. Although it was still comparably arduous and taxing by trying to breathe deeply as instructed. The last time Eugene could recall feeling this helpless was when he had a nasty case of typhus around age 5 or 6 that had nearly killed him.
“Right now, I’m preparing an anesthetic for that wound in your back,” murmured Clarence. The apothecary was using medical terms that until that point in time for which Eugene had had very little use. It made Eugene wish he’d read and paid more attention like Rapunzel.
And mentally conjuring his beloved sweetheart so easily within such a natural context suddenly sent unbidden shockwaves of loneliness, hopelessness, and despair crashing through him. Regis would never release him and Eugene knew it. He’d gone to far too much trouble convincing others that Eugene no longer existed amongst the living. Past the end of his needfulness for this prisoner, the mad king might eventually attempt to use Eugene as bait at a later date. But until then, Eugene was still being secretly held here, wherever ‘here’ was...which had to mean that it was becoming more likely with each passing hour that Javeen’s decoy ruse had worked. That whatever was left after the fire the enemy troops had started, and after Corona’s soldiers watched their own captain get struck down, it was practically a given that nobody from his kingdom was out searching for Eugene right now.
In spite of himself, the back of his still-raw sinuses welled up and started dripping with these instant pent up emotions. He sniffled softly at first but when Eugene pictured himself back in the nursery, rocking Kleisonne and singing their special song….considering that Rapunzel has to sing it now….it was more than he could take. It had already been over two months since the last time he had left them to take up arms at New Old Corona and even though he could see Corona Island from the top of the mountain pass, as captain, Eugene felt as if he might as well have been a million miles away. With so few fighting men, with so few soldiers who’d actually experienced prior sustained combat much less led through it, such inexperienced leadership, and only a rather ancient stockpile of weaponry….(Corona had been at peace for hundreds of years, after all...) Eugene simply could not leave his station under any circumstances….not even to see his family. The kingdom’s needs had been too great….still are too great. Had his father’s battalions arrived yet from the Dark Kingdom? Probably not. Eugene had a feeling he’d be hearing all about it from the apothecary, chatty as he was. But then….but then -- one shining light of realization cut through the pain haze and fear fog….piercing its way through his overwrought mind and body. Rapunzel was actually queen now and thus not at the mercy and whims of what others thought or felt anymore. Not really. And Eugene could sense with absolute certainty that Rapunzel would not rest until she had found identifiable remains by means of incontrovertible proof. And once they found the only clue Eugene had managed to leave behind, Rapunzel’s resolve in finding him would become dang near indestructible. He’d just have to try and find a way to escape -- or more practically, considering his woeful state of being, somehow get word out ASAP so that Corona would still be performing a rescue, not a recovery.
Eugene hissed rather loudly at the sudden harsh stinging sensation emanating from around the wound in his back. The sharp intake of breath had in turn disturbed everything else within Eugene’s predicament. “My apologies,” Clarence spoke out, “I’m usually accustomed to patients who are already unconscious by the time I get to them,” he explained with a hint of nervousness.
Aaaand he’s apologizing again. For unintentionally hurting me. Truly this guy was proving over and over he really wasn’t Regis’s mad scientist henchman. After Clarence was finished with the stinging stuff, he grabbed some type of salve that Eugene was sure he already knew pretty well. Tallow, the same stuff used as a base for candles, also made a great healing and moisturization agent. It sealed the wound away from everything else including dirt and further abrasions.
It was basically how Eugene had avoided having too many scars for so many years, and the one main reason why he appeared completely unscathed, despite all of the bar fights he had been swept up in, and the smaller now invisible wounds he’s had. Although he currently rolled his eyes at his own past vanity by trying to achieve physical perfection with flawless skin. Eugene was certainly gonna have some gnarly scars after this….provided he lived long enough to actually heal from his open wounds and captivity….Eugene inwardly admonished himself to stop thinking morbidly. And to instead be grateful for Clarence and his incomprehensible kindness in such a morbid setting. And if Eugene weren’t already laying down, he would’ve been bowled over by what the apothecary did next. Clarence not only carefully cleaned and applied tallow to every inch of the abrasions those ropes had caused, he covered the red welts on Eugene’s wrists with long knotted-off strips of floursack cloth. It was such an unexpectedly….kind thing to do, to tend to wounds caused by a prisoner’s restraints…..Eugene was momentarily taken aback….and currently lost in thought. And this is when Clarence figured he’d had as good a time as any to crank up the hallucination juice.
Somewhere behind Eugene, something that smelled vaguely of incense and oil started burning nearby and he started coughing. Clarence reminded him about the cushion trick and the coughing sensation eased off and Eugene began to feel oddly and unexpectedly relaxed. His cognitive body functions had largely gone dormant and he was floating in a soft white haze. He felt….groovy. Every once in awhile, lightning streaks of pain might interrupt his dreaming as Clarence, who was not only a good apothecary but a well trained surgeon, worked on sewing up Eugene’s wounds.
Clarence couldn’t have Eugene eat or drink anything prior to surgery so that effectively eliminated anything taken by mouth when it came to easing his patient’s pain at this time. So the apothecary took the one safest route left to him; the psychoactive one. The main problem was that psychoactives didn’t technically knock you out….at least not the ones of which he was in possession.
The surgeon was distinctly worried that even if Eugene had tried to ingest any medicine or even water, it very well would have triggered pain so agonizingly distressful that he wouldn’t be able to stop screaming once it got started. Based on the prior blood and reflux content he’d seen so far, (as well as how his patient had reacted during his first few seconds upon waking) Clarence strongly suspected part of Eugene’s problem was a nasty duodenal tear and that meant high-intensity stomach acid was busy slowly seeping itself out everywhere it wasn’t intended to be, both inside and outside of his patient. Unneutralized stomach acid pouring itself into one’s abdominal cavity was indeed Not Good at All, especially since that includes everything else that regularly accompanies stomach acid. Clarence's plan was to be as hands-off as possible. He'd witnessed far too many patients die of resulting infection directly caused by a surgeon's brash (and yes, stupid) tendency to just dig around in open wounds. Clarence still didn't know if his patient needed to be sewn up all the way or if drainage sites needed to be packed as he healed.
All things considered, this “enemy” captain shouldn’t even be conscious. Eugene had to be practically dying of thirst and yet he wasn’t complaining. Here he was, on this makeshift exam/surgery platform, high as a kite, tripping aloud about fluffy purple bunnies wearing watermelon hats. Or was it purple watermelons wearing pink bunny hats? Whatever that meant, thought Clarence, with some amusement.
Clarence seemed to have an internal immunity against the “incense oil” he was burning for his patient’s sake. He was both annoyed and grateful for said immunity. He also fervently hoped this patient would stay distracted long enough with pleasant hallucinations in order for Clarence to do what he needed. It wasn’t like him to operate on a patient without explaining everything thoroughly, but he was hoping against hope that by subtracting another layer of self-awareness, it might somehow help Eugene stay distracted even longer. Besides, you can’t rightly swallow much of anything when it’s just going to…..leak back out such a nasty hole in your vital organs. Above all else, the young captain needed that tear repaired as quickly as possible.
Real things about world history discovers/innovations: When 'syringe' is mentioned here, it's not like a hypodermic needle or even an oral medication syringe. The size of syringes in the 18th century were more the size range of a can of spray deodorant on up to a large can of hair spray.
“Okay, Captain Fitz-Humpty-Dumpty, let’s try and put you back together again, shall we?” murmured the surgeon to himself, as he took one last glance at his overstocked supply of incense oil.

A/N: In order to keep this an element of realism in this historical setting, you can imagine the amount of research that went into building this single chapter. Medicine was taking some monumental strides starting in 16th century (1500s) onward.
