A new CLH Sam Fisher and Regan Burns fanart in process, I been in a 007 mood, so I wanted to draw Sam and Regan that way. I know Sam is not the tuxedo type, but in this mission, he must use one.

I have read so much about Woodrow Wilson’s decisions during WW1 these past few months that I really believe him having that stroke instead of getting stoned in the streets was merciful.

Remembering Ladder 118 shown here in this iconic picture as it crossed the Brooklyn Bridge — not knowing that it would be the fire truck's last run. They did not die a few minutes later as most posts suggest, instead after crossing the bridge, Ladder 118 pulled into the doomed Marriott World Trade Center hotel. The six firefighters ran up the stairs and helped countless panicked guests escape.

Bobby Graff, a mechanic at the hotel, was quoted saying: “They knew what was going on, and they went down with their ship. They weren’t going to leave until everyone got out. They must have saved a couple hundred people that day. I know they saved my life.”

Ultimately, over 900 guests were saved that day. However, when the Twin Towers finally collapsed, the hotel went down with them. So did hundreds of firefighters, including the six members on Ladder 118.

THREE NEW SHARK SPECIES THIS WEEK!

The second week of July 2023 something extraordinarily beautiful happened, the findings of 3 new species of sharks for were announced

A new angel sharks species was identified, from the western Indian Ocean on the Mascarene Plateau and off southwestern India in 100–500 m depths, the Lea’s angel shark Squatina leae, was recognized to be different genetically and morphologically distinct from its congeneric species Squatina africanae, following unique morphological features.  This species was first detected in 1988 after finding  three unusual, small sharks, but till today was completely understood. The angel shark is named after one of the author’s fiancee’s late sister, Lea-Marie Cordt.

Angel sharks are “flatter sharks”, possesing distinctly broad, dorsoventrally flattened bodies, a short snout with large mouth and nostrils, eyes on top of the head close to the large spiracles, very large pectoral fins, and a lateral caudal keel. They've evolved to be ambush predators, they lie in wait for prey to pass closely overhead before attacking.

From North Australia, another species of hornshark is described based on six whole specimens and a single egg case. The painted hornshark Heterodontus marshallae was previously considered to be the same with the zebra bullhead shark another well know bullhead shark from the central Indo-Pacific from Japan  to Australia, but genetic and morphological analyses indicated the sharks were different, but looking alike. The painted hornshark is endemic to northwestern Australia and occurs in deeper waters, at 125–229 m below surface.

The painted hornsharks is named in honour of Dr. Lindsay Marshall www.stickfigurefish.com.au a scientific illustrator and elasmobranch scientist who expertly painted all the sharks and rays of the world for the Chondrichthyan Tree of Life Project.

And from an unidentified shark egg collected from the deep waters of northwestern Australia, in 2011 recently helped researchers identify a new species of deep water cat shark. Called ridged-egg catshark Apristurus ovicorrugatus after its eggs, it was collected in the earlys 90 but remained unknown to date. This sharks presents white eyes, and is small in size, reaching less than a half meter in length. .

Egg cases belonging to this species had been documented as early as the 1980s, but could not be matched to any species of Australian shark until recently scientists examined a shark specimen of previously uncertain identity in the CSIRO collection.

I am crying of happiness to see someone gets interest about Regan, no one in the Splinter Cell fandom had done a drawing ever about how she may look and love that you got the inspiration to draw her in the Captain Laserhawk universe. "On a blustery day in early March, the who’s who of methane research gathered at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara, California. Dozens of people crammed into a NASA mission control center. Others watched from cars pulled alongside roads just outside the sprawling facility. Many more followed a livestream. They came from across the country to witness the launch of an oven-sized satellite capable of detecting the potent planet-warming gas from space. 

The amount of methane, the primary component in natural gas, in the atmosphere has been rising steadily over the last few decades, reaching nearly three times as much as preindustrial times. About a third of methane emissions in the United States occur during the extraction of fossil fuels as the gas seeps from wellheads, pipelines, and other equipment. The rest come from agricultural operations, landfills, coal mining, and other sources. Some of these leaks are large enough to be seen from orbit. Others are miniscule, yet contribute to a growing problem.

Identifying and repairing them is a relatively straightforward climate solution. Methane has a warming potential about 80 times higher than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period, so reducing its levels in the atmosphere can help curb global temperature rise. And unlike other industries where the technology to decarbonize is still relatively new, oil and gas companies have long had the tools and know-how to fix these leaks.

MethaneSAT, the gas-detecting device launched in March, is the latest in a growing armada of satellites designed to detect methane. Led by the nonprofit Environmental Defense Fund, or EDF, and more than six years in the making, the satellite has the ability to circle the globe 15 times a day and monitor regions where 80 percent of the world’s oil and gas is produced. Along with other satellites in orbit, it is expected to dramatically change how regulators and watchdogs police the oil and gas industry...

A couple hours after the rocket blasted off, Wofsy, Hamburg, and his colleagues watched on a television at a hotel about two miles away as their creation was ejected into orbit. It was a jubilant moment for members of the team, many of whom had traveled to Vandenberg with their partners, parents, and children. “Everybody spontaneously broke into a cheer,” Wofsy said. “You [would’ve] thought that your team scored a touchdown during overtime.”

The data the satellite generates in the coming months will be publicly accessible — available for environmental advocates, oil and gas companies, and regulators alike. Each has an interest in the information MethaneSAT will beam home. Climate advocates hope to use it to push for more stringent regulations governing methane emissions and to hold negligent operators accountable. Fossil fuel companies, many of which do their own monitoring, could use the information to pinpoint and repair leaks, avoiding penalties and recouping a resource they can sell. Regulators could use the data to identify hotspots, develop targeted policies, and catch polluters. For the first time, the Environmental Protection Agency is taking steps to be able to use third-party data to enforce its air quality regulations, developing guidelines for using the intelligence satellites like MethaneSAT will provide. The satellite is so important to the agency’s efforts that EPA Administrator Michael Regan was in Santa Barbara for the launch as was a congressional lawmaker. Activists hailed the satellite as a much-needed tool to address climate change. 

“This is going to radically change the amount of empirically observed data that we have and vastly increase our understanding of the amount of methane emissions that are currently happening and what needs to be done to reduce them,” said Dakota Raynes, a research and policy manager at the environmental nonprofit Earthworks. “I’m hopeful that gaining that understanding is going to help continue to shift the narrative towards [the] phase down of fossil fuels.”

With the satellite safely orbiting 370 miles above the Earth’s surface, the mission enters a critical second phase. In the coming months, EDF researchers will calibrate equipment and ensure the satellite works as planned. By next year [2025], it is expected to transmit reams of information from around the world."

this past month i've been imagining what various OCs of mine-- some from a DECADE ago, some of which i've never talked about publicly-- would look like in MET gala style outfits! the theme was THE FOUR ELEMENTS and characters were sorted into whichever element i felt suited them best.

Valyan Lacroye (Andromeda Rogue). i don't really have much to say about them lol. they're just a cute little cloud bard <3

Amina Khadir (Girls With White Teeth). while looking for inspiration i came across this instagram account and she always does these incredible themed outfits. one was this sunset cloudy dress and i immediately was like. i NEED Amina in something like this. my version is frillier and sparklier, though.

Kalen & Illiana Dyonas (The Gemini Heist). there was a moment where i was tempted to make them the Jenner sisters of this gala and have them show up in underwhelming outfits... but i knew in my heart of hearts the space twins would never. for Kalen i wanted something heavenly (bc she has this saintlike, religious role) and also doves as a symbol of peace (which is ironic. considering her family's history. but i digress). for Illiana i wanted something to complement Kalen but also oppose her, so i have her a crow-themed look. (there could also maybe be something to say about her being in a heist team... and me being inspired by Six of Crows to write a heist... but that wasn't my original intention lmao)

Nicole Skye (Girls With White Teeth). i actually put Nicole in air because she was an aspiring tennis player. (this made sense in my head somehow.) peacocks have this rep of being proud but i think they can also be viewed as confident, and i think that's how Nicole would see it too. confident.

Regan Takada (Strangewayes Library of the Arcane). Regan is the new assistant librarian in a magical library who always tries to use magic to fix things and ends up making bigger messes. her outfit is space-themed but more specifically, the Aquarius constellation, an air sign. take a wild guess what Regan's sign is.

Scarlette Vaughn (Aurora Hearts: Mirage). Scarlette is a super old OC that i repurposed for a friend's universe. the thing with that group of OCs is that they each perfectly fit in one of the four elements lol, and Scar has air and wind powers. are butterflies a transgender symbol or am i making things up? either way it just felt fitting for her.

Azami Black-Mizuhara (Andromeda Rogue). deep sigh. oh, Azami. she was in fire at first bc it fit her personality, but i was NOT getting any good ideas (also couldn't think of putting her in any other colour but pink, and what am i supposed to do with that? pink flames??) so i ended up switching her to air, and the idea of a big poufy cloud dress just came naturally. but then the dress was... too big. so big she needed a two page spread in the magazine for it to fit. what else would one expect from Azami?

AAAAAYYYYY WE FINALLY MADE IT!!!!!

Six years later, and Lost Souls is in it's final chapter (and will be completed before the year ends YIPPEEE!!!) and I realized that I hadn't made good on something I said I would do: frequent comparisons between appearances of the characters to show how my art has changed and improved throughout the comic's run. Completely forgot. Oops...

So I figured what better way to celebrate how far we've come than to visually SHOW how different the start and the end are! Here we go! (LONG POST AHEAD!)

PROLOGUE

Not much to say about the first chapter--other than it shows its age. 💀 At the time I really struggled with contrast and color theory, because everything is muddy and blends together.

I found all the Fazbears challenging to draw, but I especially remember struggling with Chica the most SOLEY because of her beak--I was having difficulty wrapping my head around making it look the way I wanted it to. Once I let myself treat Chica's beak less like an actual beak and more like a pair of extra thick lips she became one of the easier characters to draw.

CHAPTER ONE

Its so weird seeing where my blood children started and where they ended up design-wise. Cody's hair is a lot more tamer in style in these first chapters, and it took a while to get the hang of how I wanted to depict Bridget's wavy hair.

CHAPTER TWO

UGGHH MORE MUDDY COLORS GET IT AWAY GET IT AWAY

Back during this chapter the fog looked more like actual fog than a manifestation of all the animal souls Gold had collected and tenuously tied together with sheer force of will. All I can say is I guess I was still figuring out the art direction I was going.

CHAPTER THREE

I was REALLY proud how I subverted expectations by not letting Cody or Bridget faint upon meeting the Fazbears. XD

I also did this dumb thing where I would block the farther limbs in shadow to try and save time (you can see it most notably on Halo and Bonnie's ears.)

This did not in fact save much time and ended up looking kinda dumb and making people think characters were missing limbs. >_<

CHAPTER FOUR

Character designs are notably more consistent.

Here was where I dropped using Photoshop Elements 7 for my drawing and used Krita. I still used Photoshop for finishing details etc.

CHAPTER FIVE & SIX

If I had to pin a chapter in which character designs were pretty much solidified, it would be these chapters.

CHAPTER SEVEN

The only major characters here are Cody and Regan.

I made this chapter during the height of 2020. So naturally I was in the throws of a MAJOR depressive episode.

I took a lot of short cuts in an attempt to just get this chapter DONE. Don't know if it's noticeable or not, but yeah it was rough.

I didn't include the Bidibabs and Minireenas because there's too darn many if them, and they're not always grouped together for the most effective comparison shots.

CHAPTER EIGHT & NINE

Grouped because eight wasn't particularly noteworthy.

Other than it's where I made the switch to Clip Studio Paint.

I had experimented with it when I made the prior Crybaby chapters and fell in love with the program before I even finished the free trial.

CHAPTER TEN

Ooh I was SO anxious for this chapter, because here was when the story would reach the point of no return--it was literally all downhill from here and I wouldn't be able to just drop the comic if I lost interest.

(But I didn't! )

Point being, lots of anxiety surrounding this chapter.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Here is officially past the event horizon. At this point I had no idea how much farther I had to go in spite of the fact it was the start of the final night.

CHAPTER TWELVE

We officially enter the labyrinth here, and it is here where I officially decided I HATE the color green.

I really don't know what it was, but there wasn't many things I could do to make the characters stand out from the sheer GREEN of the vicinity, and it muddied up a lot of the colors of the characters.

Thankfully I had more experience under my belt to balance it all out (I hope 😬)

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

More green.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Which is why when Cody's group went into the mirror maze I switched it up and went more aquamarine/turquoise to make it more bearable for me.

Making the light emit from the glow-in-the-dark floor panels was a happy accident--I wad playing around with layer modes and the Add Dodge (Glow) layer mode in CSP caused an interesting effect that I took and ran.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

The double uploads started here and OH MY GOD I can't believe I managed to survive it. I really put my pedal to the metal here, and I came out on top!

(It was a race against myself really but HOT DAMN I WAS ON FIYA.)

Side note: this chapter went through SO MANY rough drafts guys it's not even funny.

The vibes weren't jiving, the pacing was all skiddly-wompus, and at one point the chapter was FIFTY PAGES LARGE (HELL NAW)

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

This was the hardest chapter to finish, if you can believe it.

It took the longest production-wise, because after SIX YEARS of non-stop comic work I was definitely burned out. Thank god I had already solidified the script and thumbnails beforehand because with that guide rail in place I could drag myself across the finish line by my fingernails because if there was ONE THING I DIDN'T WANT IT WAS A FRICKIN RUSHED ENDING. >:[

(Burned by too many unsatisfying webtoon/webcomic endings that basically went "and we lived happily ever after 😌")

Visually this is my favorite chapter. I love how the colors turned out, and all the characters felt truly "mine."

And that's that!

Man I started writing a whole paragraph and I realized that I should PROBABLY save it for the Afterword, when the comic is well and truly finished. So I'll hold off on that big ol' schpiel until then, but I will say:

It had been six months since Angela and her family took in the Arkham teens, (Dick, Wally, Kaldur, Artemis, M’gann and Connor) Angela’s grandparents were coming to with them for a while. Angela loved her grandparents and they have, shockingly, accepted the teens in their household, but her grandfather, suta, had a flaw, a deeply embarrassing flaw. Ever since Angela could remember, her grandmother, Enola, and mother, Kim, had complained about since Regan left office, about her grandfather’s habit of going to get the morning paper in nothing but his boxer shorts. telling him to at least put a robe on becuase what if someone saw him. Suta said nobody is going to be out there at six thirty am, and that wearing boxer shorts was just like bathing suit, it was not in fact just like wearing a bathing suit, especially if you have seen Angela’s grandfather’s boxer shorts which have definitely seen better years and has no elastic and holes every which way, and according to her mom and grandmother, were held toghther by stains and stubbornness. Even better, was suta claiming, with nothing but pride, that Evan would do this one day too, and maybe if they were around long enough, that dick, Wally, Connor and Kaldur might learn to do it too. Evan looked horrorfied, Connor looked angrier then Angela had ever seen him, Kaldur looked both confused and concerned, and Wally and dick looked both amused and scared.She remembered countless times by her mother and grandmother to rid of the boxers, but suta always got them back, he’s very loyal to his boxers, So anyway, this morning, suta is going to get the paper, with our dog, wildcat, standing guard on the deck, suta is bending over to get the paper, trust Angela, you did not want to see that, when wildcat starts barking like crazy, suta is about to yell at wildcat to shut up when he sees what wildcat is barking at. A coyote. It was a big coyote. he was on our lawn maybe ten feet away from our front walkway which means somehow suta went right pass without seeing on his way to get the paper, but he sure noticed it when wildcat started barking and no way was he gonna try to walk past it again. ENOLA! ENOLA! He yelled for her grandmother. Enola, Kim, Iman, Evan, Angela, Amy and the teens ran out of the house only to be shocked by what they saw. Suta was on the sidewalk, trying (and failing) to hold up his boxers with one hand and using the other to wave the newspaper at the coyote like a weapon. Reactions to this “event” varied. Amy looked at the coyote with wonder, trying to fight Angela’s efforts to keep her from getting closer, Wally was laughing like he would never laugh again, and Angela just looked defeated. SUPER KIDS! Her grandfather’s oringal and well thought nickname for the team bellowed. DO SOEMTHING! Nobody moved, wildcat started barking even louder. CALL 911! Suta feels, realizing the kids were no help. HURRY! okay! Enola yelled, running back inside the house followed by Kim and Iman, wildcat’s barking was now agitating the coyote, causing it to come their way, this got the team to snap out of it, their quickly got their weapons out, even dick with his birdarangs and Evan, with a fallen branch, formed a barrier around Angela and Amy., they faced down supervillains, they could handle a coyote. But before anyone could do anything, suta ran down the walkway and hit the coyote with the paper, shouting shoo and go away. This was the bravest suta had every done, but it did not impress the coyote. It only upsetted the coyote more, moving towards suta, who started to run down the street. This breathed life back into dick and Evan’s filming efforts, Kaldur and Megan still looked confused and concerned, Connor and Artemis looked like they blamed suta

Remembering Ladder 118 shown here in this iconic picture as it crossed the Brooklyn Bridge — not knowing that it would be the fire truck's last run. They did not die a few minutes later as most posts suggest, instead after crossing the bridge, Ladder 118 pulled into the doomed Marriott World Trade Center hotel. The six firefighters ran up the stairs and helped countless panicked guests escape.

Bobby Graff, a mechanic at the hotel, was quoted saying: “They knew what was going on, and they went down with their ship. They weren’t going to leave until everyone got out. They must have saved a couple hundred people that day. I know they saved my life.”

Ultimately, over 900 guests were saved that day. However, when the Twin Towers finally collapsed, the hotel went down with them. So did hundreds of firefighters, including the six members on Ladder 118.

Hello, today I thought I'd share something very funny with all of you. There are a few things to remember; the first thing is that the memories of the events I talk about are years old, and I'm only drawing on them today. Secondly, I'm from a small town in Indiana, and the club that I am talking about in this story was sponsored by the school itself.

With that being said, let's begin.

I was a rather vocal and opinionated person in my later teenage years. So when I was told that my school and the Government class sponsored the Young Republicans and young democrats club, I knew I'd be able to fit right in and voice my opinions and views to be debated. Little did I know just how memorable I'd be as a young Democrat or even as a young Democratic Socialist. The setup was rather....shall I say Jerry-rigged. We had 45 young Republicans and 36 young Democrats.

During club sessions, we would always find ourselves in different scenarios and debates, and we'd consistently enact them as if we were in the United States House Of Representatives or The United States Senate. Our Vice-Principal would act like the President of The Senate. During specific club sessions (once a month or so), we'd be honored to have our state congressional leaders join us for debates and other club activities.

On one very specific occasion, we were joined by four of our state congressional leaders, two from each party. The debate came down to the Second Amendment reform argument that had plagued even the Federal government for decades. I was the only Democrat on my side who had the spine to stand up and debate this subject, especially since this session followed immediately after the Parkland School Shooting of 2018. I brought my research to my podium while one of the Republicans from the state House of Representatives was waiting on the gym floor to debate.

The question was posed of how to curtail the epidemic of gun violence in the country, and I was given the chance to begin the debate. In all of my research, I concluded that the best approach would be to return to a Reagan-era gun policy. I further argued the point with not just state gun-related crime data but federal data as well. Comparing and contrasting the data from the start of those policies until that point. I even believe I outright said, "Regan." After proving my point, the State Republican Representative was given a chance to rebut, and he even said, "I can't follow that up." After that debate, all four representatives shook my hand and admitted that they were just outwitted by an 18-year-old with absolutely no political experience whatsoever.

On a separate occasion, six members of the state congress and state senate joined us. Three from each party, two state reps, and one state senator. Before the session even began, though, all the state congressional leaders asked me the same question. Which was, "Are you the kid that said Regan?" to which my response was simply"Yes." The topic up for debate was abortion reform and the possibility of an abortion ban in my state. I was the only Democrat on my side that raised their hand. Noticing a pattern yet? The debate got heated as I was battling a Republican who kept bringing up his stance instead of having a substantive answer to the question at hand. When it came time for my rebuttal, I laid into this guy.

Telling him that if an abortion ban were enacted, it would put millions of lives at risk in our state alone and that instead, Roe V Wade should be codified into law as it was. Bringing up that women and anyone who could get pregnant were already fighting an uphill battle just for the basic principle of bodily autonomy. I believe my exact ending remark was that this whole discussion was the precise definition of a, to which one of the State reps added "Cluster fuck" and I thanked him for the addition. Even after all of that, they still shook my hand afterward, and even the Republicans were asking why I wasn't one of them.

The final story I'll share happened in 2016, right around the Presidential election. Our clubs were told that we would go to the State Capitol building and tour both chambers. After the tour, we were told that we would join in on a state senate hearing that wouldn't, unfortunately, ever see the light of day. Our parties were split down the aisle, and we were shown to our seats. The chairman of the committee we were joining that day looked at me and said, "Aren't you the kid who said Regan?" I again responded with "yes." He smiled and suggested that I be the chairman for the day. Obviously, I'm absolutely freaking out. I was told to look at the agenda and ensure that my colleagues were staying in line and being respectful.

After a while, my debate came last but certainly not least. It was a topic that I had already debated a few times, and I used the same argument for funding public education. The chairman, however, asked me to prepare a new argument because it was a debate based on funding increases with an incentives/rewards system from standardized testing. Not wanting to be one to disappoint, I did just that. When I re-entered the room, I saw the now-former governor and former Vice-President Mike Pence waiting for me. I am now (rightfully and honestly) shitting my pants. The debate began after being given a minute to shake away the cobwebs. Governor Pence did his best to throw me off guard with specific points he brought up, but I stood on solid data and beliefs.

My rebuttal was incredible, with the first statement out of my mouth being, "My apologies for the language, but is anyone actually buying this crap?" I then roast him on point after point, bringing up my school's state test scores and how we actually received a bump in funding due to our athletic program, not test scores. What made me popular with all of the teachers in attendance was when I mentioned that we should be paying our teachers more regardless of test score averages. The thing that made me less popular with everyone in the room was when I mentioned that I am a self-described Democratic Socialist. I didn't lose my step or stride even after a collective gasp. I continued, stating that if Pence knew what damage he had already caused, he would abandon the state testing system altogether, start paying his teachers more, and invest in his students more than an everyday soccer mom would(no offense to any soccer moms reading this).

After that, a shock revelation, and a hell of a tirade, I still gotta a standing ovation from everyone in attendance when Pence conceded. After the session, Governor Pence walked up to me and shook my hand personally but then asked the same question. "Aren't you the kid that said Regan?" to which I responded with a simple "Yes."

Fuck you, Pence.
