Deleted tt after awhile due to the TOXICITY on there. I had aufios and edits but I never really enjoyed it for shit. I only had due to a few friends on there that barely talked aswell. I don’t even know why I even bothered knowing I was in the TCC beforehand, and nothing GOOD came out of it.

I think a lot of this "there were no signs!" has to do with a severe misunderstanding of what a red flag is. A lot of things I see listed as red flags are straight up abuse. A red flag for abuse is not abuse itself, not yet. It's a warning that this person may be dangerous in some way.

Driving you out in the middle of nowhere because he's pissed off is not a red flag; that is abuse. Touching you without your permission is not a red flag; that is harassment at best, assault at worst. Insisting on buying your drink when you've refused is a red flag. He's not harming you, he's not endangering you, and it could be written off--will be by many people, and is certainly normalized in a lot of romance--as he's just really interested. And, hey, maybe that's all it is. But it's a good indication that you should raise your guard because there's a decent chance it means he doesn't respect your boundaries.

Red flags aren't blaring lights that for sure yes unambiguously this person is going to hurt you or is actively hurting you. They are signs to watch out for because they are largely normalized and even romanticized in wider society. Everyone who displays a red flag is not necessarily a dangerous person. But people are not wrong for distancing themselves from those who display them, or for pointing them out before or after the fact.

This doesn't mean "you should have seen the signs!" when someone hurts you. It wasn't your fault. There are millions of circumstances and experiences that allow certain things to fly under the radar. It happens to everyone. But it does mean "there were no signs!" is almost always wrong. Most predators are not sociopathic geniuses. They cannot put up that good of an act.

Men writing about women and girls in sexually objectifying ways is a red flag that in some part of their lives they treat them that way too.

Let's take a look at some red flags it checks off...

☑ The founder's ideas are considered infallible, despite the founder's incredibly dubious behavior.

☑ Claims that its beliefs can be traced back through the ages and cites known holy texts, but examination of these texts reveals that they really have nothing to do with the ideas promoted by the founder.

☑ Claims that modern science supports its claims, but examination of actual current scientific knowledge shows that it does not actually back them up.

☑ The beliefs and practices can supposedly never fail the followers; followers can only fail the beliefs and practices.

☑ Followers are told to suppress their doubt and their critical thinking skills. People who ask critical questions are shamed and invalidated.

☑ Fabulous results are promised, such as curing serious illness or becoming wealthy in a short time. But there is no reliable evidence of these fabulous results, and people who ask for it are shamed.

☑ Alleged "evidence" that this is all absolutely true in exactly the way its founder/follows claim includes unverifiable anecdotes and events easily explained through psychology or random chance, and the kind of photos that are very easy to stage, fake, or steal.

☑ Dehumanization. Everyone Is You Pushed Out effectively claims that other people lack true agency and interiority, and are essentially mere puppets you can control however you please.

☑ Followers are "free to leave," but there is still a powerful sense of shame, failure, and general wrongness attached to actually leaving.

☑ Ex-followers report being disrespected, abused, and suffering lasting harm from the way they were treated and from the beliefs they internalized.

☑ Ex-followers who talk about their negative experiences get invalidated and demonized, and are accused of harboring bitterness, anger, or jealousy.

☑ Questioning followers are told to completely ignore critics and ex-members.

It's not accurate to say that the Law of Assumption and its community isn't a cult because it doesn't line up 1:1 with something like Jonestown or NXIVM. Cults come in all forms, and the Law of Assumption and its community have more than enough to qualify. Don't believe me? Then don't take my word for it; start researching modern cults for yourself.
