Adar had to die because if he, Gil-Galad and Elendil were all in Middle Earth at the same time there would have simply been too much Dad Energy ā¢ļø for the populace to handle. They would have defeated Sauron through sheer āIām not mad, Iām just disappointedā force alone.

I feel like legolas is the kind of elf that, while he absolutely can take the reins of a situation and lead people, is also absolutely chill with being the second in command. Unless itās needed or the one in charge is gonna do smth stupid, heās fine letting other people deligate tasks and make decisions and such.
Legolas walks the fine line between being more of a solo act and being a team player
And you can see this pretty clearly in lotr too, like he lets Gandalf and Aragorn take the lead for the most part bc he knows this isnāt his area of expertise, but we also see his initiative and confidence when he volunteers himself for the quest instead of letting someone else take part (like glorfindel).
Itās also really important to me that legolas is someone who follows orders because he chooses to follow orders. He doesnāt follow orders bc he has to or bc itās what heās supposed to do, he lets other people tell him what to do only when he trusts them/trusts their decisions/agrees with them.
#lord of the rings#lotr#lotr elves#the hobbit#legolas#the 9 walkers#legolas has a quiet strength of character#and the only reason we donāt see him rebel that much is bc he doesnāt have to much rebel about#since he more or less agrees with most actions#tolkien meta

Toying with Rook concepts (even though I am literally in the beginning of DAO Act 1 and DATV hasnāt come out yet) and I just realized that my primary ideaāan elf Shadow Dragon who is a brash, autistic lesbian with issues with authority and trans-lineage adoption trauma up to hereāis. More or less mage Sera. I think Iām going to have to go with this concept because frankly sharing a psychic link with someone who reminds him strongly of both Sera and his younger self because he fucked up royally would be probably Solasās personal hell.
#rook mercar#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#datv#shartan mercar#or maybe itāll be shartannis? I like the idea of them evoking the theory about how there were many shartans and it was just a term for a#rebel elf leader at that time (in-world theory)#also on account of shartan bald maybe because of elves around that time associating baldness with rebel leaders/rebellion bc of solas#(out-of-universe theory)#And my mercar is SPECIFICALLY designed to torment solas#(I think its good for his health to be linked to someone who will constantly take him down pegs.)#(btw my mercar did name themself! their adoptive parents named them hessaria after archon hessarian.)#(which they became increasingly less fond of as they grew older)

Catching up with The Dragon Prince and decided to make a Crossover AU concept except all member of the Ghost Crew are different elves
(mind you I'm not deciding based on appearance or signature color ect I'm going with the General Vibeā¢ so it's rather personal, you can disagree or share your ideas)
Let's also say there are no humans in this case scenario kay? Let's dig in!
Hera- Skywing Elf, definitely, no doubt. Her love of flying is too strong for me to place her in a different type. She's also that "less than one in ten" case that's born with wings. I would say her horns would be long and curved to mimic the original lekku, I'd keep her green color (even though it's not usual for Skywing Elves to have that skin tonr) but maybe I'll add some silver/gray touches to
Kanan- Startouched Elf, going with what we know about that type, they're very rare and so are the Jedi after the fall of the Republic, so that's a nice touch. He'd have a deep indigo skin and obviously horns (to add the touch one could be chipped, to signify that he's been through a lot), his primal source is the stars ofc and ofc he's trying to teach Ezra about the arcanum with the stars, since that type of connection is rare and not much is known about it
Ezra- Startouched Elf, everything goes same as for Kanan, but I feel Ezra could have obviously smaller horns and a little lighter blue skin. He would also figure out the arcanum to more than one primal source and would definitely try Dark Magic at some point (just like how Ezra was tempted by the dark side in the show)
Sabine- Earthblood Elf- hear me out, she would definetly use her Earth Magic to create beautiful art, wether it would be with plants gems and crystals, she would have brown skin and green hair (at least originally, she could dye it later)
Zeb- Sunfire Elf, he would definitely still be a captain of the royal guard in Lux Aurea before its fall (lile Lasan) and it definetly fits that this type of Elves are known for amazing weapons (SWR Ladats- bo-rifle, TDP Sunfir Elves- Sunforge blades and armour) and his "heat-being mode" would definitely be something to see... He doesn't use the Sun Magic often, but like all Elves, he's connected to his primal source- the sun
Kallus- Moonshadow Elf, they're known for being great assasins and infiltrators, I think it would sit well with Kallus' spying abilities (and you cannot tell me that the phrase "by the light of Lothal's moons" doesn't fit perfectly!) He would still be pale with a bit of purple-ish hints, his markings would resemble his freckles, his hair would be white. He would know know a few spells but wouldn't rely only on them. He originally used Dark Magic, but after becoming one of The Good Guysā¢, he stopped. He's the perfect opposite of Zeb at first glance although also going with @seth-shitposts post about Kallus being like a moon that reflects the light around him, this is perfect.
Chopper- he would be Bait, but more outrightly unhinged
Not sure if I'm gonna write that or draw that but I wanna do SOMETHING

Btw in a hypothetical amphibia/toh au, Luz is Marcy, Willow is Anne and Amity is Sasha, except Luz is the Heart gem, Amity is the wit gem and Willow is the strength gem. Amitys green hair era takes on the connotations of her toxic need for perfectionism, and Willow's calamity powers invoke both the catharsis and the danger of her mind during understanding willow. In case you were wondering
#ramblings of a lunatic#the owl house#toh#not gonna tag frog show bc ppl already inappropriately crosstag toh content there anyway#it kills me that these three dont have a trio name that isnt just their ship name#but anyway my personal backstory for the au is that amity and willow have only recently patched things up in the human realm#meanwhile luz is the new kid who enabled it to happen#the drama between willow and amity in amphibia would be about amity acting like she did in labyrinth runners-#trying to protect willow for her own good and to make up for things in the past but it verges into condescension#as she doesn't see how willows grown in amphibia#meanwhile luz straight up didn't mean to send her friends to amphibia with her. that is simply not a thing i think she'd do#and she becomes easy to manipulate due to the guilt of what she's done#gus is sprig obviously. idk how hunter fits in maybe he's like a combo of andrias and marcy?#where he's manipulated into believing they're doing the right thing but eventually rebels (in a way that parallels willow hehehe)#MAYBE tags along with them to the human realm (merging amphibia and tohs season 3s) OR stays behind to protect luz#and he then gets darcy'd/bunter'd#though maybe for a shorter length of time bc with the added context of his bg it would just feel cruel to drag things out#idk this au doesn't have a plot. i just think amphibia has some banger scenes/quotes/etc and i wanna slap em on my fav lil guys#also I'm not even picturing frogs at this point I'm picturing it more like. fantasy ppl. not witches but closer to like#halflings/orcs/elves as the replacement for the frog/toad/newt caste system#that's not a good idea theme wise it's purely the fact that i can't take the characters seriously if i have to picture them as frogs#also i am. not doing hubtlow except hunter is a frog. i am simply not doing that no matter how funny it may be conceptually#ANYWAY. just finished the third temple (i love that episode. Sasha u are so important to me)#but i think now i might slide back into my toh drift and watch kt (different dub) and then FINALLY the specials again (YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY)#we'll see#i also wanna DRAW but i CAN'T cause i gotta conserve my ART ENERGY for my EVIL EXAM tomorrow#< i have silly problems#on the bright side though I've got a diary now! and i will be using it

One of these days Iām going to do a post on the fantasy wargame Flintloque thatās satirical Napoleonic Wars where the English are orcs and the French are elves part of a literal Dark Empire and everyone is an uncharitable asshole and itās all kinda hilariously racist to everyone
And the first book is about the peninsular war so thereās the orc Duke of Wheeling-Turn vs Marshal Mouratte āthe vain and stupid elf cavalry leaderā and Marshal Salt āthe son of a condiment sellerā who has a horse called Pepper
Thereās just so much going on here
#cadmus rambles#in the extended universe the chinese are bug people oppressed by dragons and the japanese are cats#the Portuguese are goblins and the catalonians are dark elves but theyāre sympathetic rebels#the Russians are undead#itās racist but in a hilariously and awkwardly weird way#cad talks about dead frenchmen on main

upgrading my spirit warrior maric timeline to spirit warrior slash borderline hedge mage maric timeline, for the joy of it.
#now wilhelm has even more reason to be grouchy and treat him like āa recalcitrant student sorely in need of disciplineā (direct quote#from the novel) and be even more frequent and intense about checking him for demons. he keeps trying to set up those dream wards used for#the kids/unharrowed in the circle and maric sulks bc its keeping him from hanging out with his spirit buddies.#also maric gets his ears pierced a certain way bc Freedom has them like that and he is oblivious to his crush on him so he thinks the reaso#he keeps staring at his ears like that is just bc the piercings are cool and not bc he kinda wants to put his mouth on them. problem is in#thedas (where realistically ear shape would be nastily obsessed over the way people do about nose shapes etc and fashions involving them#would be a much bigger more complex thing than here) things are so much more complicated than just 'is it the gay ear' (it is but its also#(depending on the species/country/social strata etc) the sub earring (a la hanky code) and the 'trans in a direction that lowers my caste'#piercing placement (for orzammar) and the 'this is either him flaunting the rumours of his bastardry or declaring hes into elves' combo#(since that post about how theres basically zero mention of marics father ive decided it adds a certain something)) and anyway. he has#little to no awareness of any of these layers of meaning bc he grew up on the move in rebel camps he was lucky to have tutors at all and#this kind of stuff just wasnt even something on his radar. he just thought it looked neat :) but the thing is also mostly unbeknownst to hi#is that each of these things is at least in the neighborhood of correct

I have been thinking about this for a while but can someone explain or their own interpretation of the relationship between Kabru and Milsiril? I have been seeing people post their thoughts about them and I'm really interested in seeing other people's opinion about them
I think understanding Milsiril is important to understanding her relationship with Kabru. But Kabru's relationship chart pretty much says it all "Overprotective adoptive mother"
Milsiril from what I understand is an outcast among other elves, since she was bullied by them before, as her bio says in the adventurer's bible, she seems to have very negative feeling for her own race.
So she has a preference for other races and likes to raise orphans which can be considered an act of altruism (and it is obviously something positive that she's helping children with no home)
But, just like other elves it seems she doesn't really respects their individuality. In this one she wants Kabru to consider the sweet from his hometown the elven one.
Even other Elves (like short lived species lover Otta) have a bad interpretation of what she does
But I think in the end of the day she just wants a family and someone to love, while a little misguided I believe she's doing her best. Meanwhile Kabru is a rebel son that doesn't want to be smothered by her love (and he's right, I'm glad he confronted her to get what he wanted). And he does call her mother (although it's the more formal version) so I believe he considers her family, there's even an extra where he asks her to take him to a family reunion.
I think they're a great representation of a type of family I don't see often in fiction. I think its great Milsiril isn't a perfect adoptive mother and I love that they're still family despite it all.
This might have been way longer than you expected but I had to jump on the opportunity to share about Milsiril.

Playing Veilguard and making it everyone's problem
I am going to rant, and I will rant a lot, and there will be spoilers, so if you're not afraid of them and the game criticism, buckle up.
Elves and their gods
I am absolutely fucking livid about how Veilguard handles the Dalish and elves in general. The events of Trespasser made it clear that the elves started flocking over to Solas, including the elves working for the Inquisition:
After the events at theĀ Winter Palace,Ā elvesĀ left the Inquisition under mysterious circumstances, as did elven servants across Thedas. None could say where they went, but those who believed the Inquisitor's story about Fen'Harel wondered just how large the Dread Wolf's forces were... and what the ancient elven rebel had planned.
Solas had multiple spies working for him during Trespasser, and If I remember correctly, there was even a note, left by one of the elves - they were anticipating the great change and the return of the elven glory. Anyways, the established fact is that: elves learned that the stories about their gods were true and one of them now was going to restore the world as it used to be. At least, this is how they interpreted it (maybe, this is the version Solas didn't debunk) and so they started following him.
You might think, the Inquisitor and their allies are going to have a huge problem with breaking it to elves that their chosen leader isn't going to make things better and that their gods don't love them. Especially, if the Inquisitor is a human or anyone who isn't an elf. You'd imagine any attempts will end in failure because of course elves aren't going to listen to outsiders trying to explain their own culture and gods to them. You'd imagine that their trauma caused by centuries of oppression and discrimination will make it impossible for the Inquisitor and anyone else to make them see the truth.
You'd assume anyone who tries to find and stop Solas will be sabotaged every step of the way, feeling themselves horrible for having to clash with people desperate for a chance of a life without injustice - even if it means burning the rest of the world down.
You'd imagine that they will only change their mind if/when they see the harm done by Solas' actions and get to witness their gods true intentions by themselves - which would lead to a massive crisis of faith and schisms happening between elven tribes and groups.
You'd imagine will get all this incredible drama in the Veilguard, with elves initially resisting the group's attempts to stop Solas, then trying to pull themselves together after the revelation. You'd assume there will be zealous groups doubting Solas (because the Dreadwolf is a liar and a deceiver) and intending to use him to actually free the elven gods. You'd think this is how actually some of them get out.
But, NOPE. Not only Solas ends up working alone, with none of his followers throwing themselves at Rook and the party to buy him time, but also all elves now hate Solas because...Varric said so?
You meet a group of Veil Jumpers (elves devoted to exploring their ancient culture and history, learning more about their gods and reclaiming their heritage) and their leader instantly calls Solas an asshole. Based on WHAT?
I get it, Varric had met them before and told them that Solas was Fen'Harel...
(needless to say if you expect players to find and read other media in order to make sense of the events in the game, you are doing something wrong)
...but why were they so fucking calm about it, instantly eating up the "yep, he's bad" version? Even if the Dread Wolf is vilified in the Dalish mythology, wouldn't they be curious about what that means? Wouldn't they have gotten tempted or excited by the implication that other gods exist too? They weren't told the full story - why the fuck did they instantly accept the "Solas is an asshole" narrative? Especially when Solas comes with a promise of a world for the elves like it was meant to be?
WHY?
The Veilguard has no response for that. I guess, Dalish never cared about their history and traditions, and city elves were dandy about Alienages and oppression, so they easily believed some randos over a literal god promising a new, better world.
I don't even play Dalish, but I love their plotline and arcs - and I was bracing myself for some downright painful choices and conflicts during the next Dragon Age. But it felt like the writers couldn't be bothered with developing such a nuanced narrative, so they just waved it all down with "Nah, elves are chill now and they never really cared about their gods in the first place".
#dragon age: veilguard#bioware critical#veilguard critical#and i'm just scratching the surface of how badly this game handles the lore and plots developed in the previous parts#also varric's āsolas is an assholeā narrative would crumble as soon as these elves would have met solas#he is the charismatic kind and compassionate type of leader they would want to believe and follow#i'll keep expanding this list of nitpicks as i go
