Personally, I can't help but see Taylor Swift's actions as a cynical attempt at PR becos this is coming right after pro-Palestinian activists called her out for having her Eras movie be screened in Tel Aviv and the backlash against her being Time's 2023 Person of the Year. And this isnt the first time, remember when Taylor Swift collabed with Ice Spice after what her ex-boyfriend Matt Healy said about Ice Spice was given renewed attention as a result of Swift's relationship with him.
And then, there's also my frustrations with fans centering their celebrity faves in progressive/social justice movements (seeing Swifities praise TS instead of Ramy Youseff who organized the damn event and is actually more at risk for getting blacklisted by virtue of being an Arab Muslim man who is vocally pro-Palestine and is an up-and-comer). There's an element of tokenization when fans find out their fave (supposedly) supports certain progressive/radical/social justice causes, it becomes a way for fans to tout as evidence of the morality of their fave and by extension, themselves for supporting the celebrity.

Fans using her attending Ramy Youseff's show in NY as a way to say "see she's been supporting Palestine the whole time" and make her the victim (yet again) of misogyny when it's very clear they only attended for the photo op bc Selena fucked up (yet again). They won't say shit on their massive platforms about a literal genocide, but will use it to get themselves back into good graces.
It was probably selena who texted her the previous night to attend the show just to get some good pr since she was blabbing shit on her instagram the day prior. taylor was also getting some backslash for the viral tweet of joe signing the ceasefire petition, so she just went with it. and LOOK they were successful with the idea because now swifties and selenators are having a field day to prove which one of their fav is more of an activist and who deserves credit the most for a Pro Palestine show that a poc hosted by himself...

It could also be that like many celebs he's since been educated on what's really going on in Palestine since signing that letter. That letter was signed back in October a lot has happened since.
Agreed
OK, being a devil's advocate here. I wouldn't go to the extreme that, due to the copious amount of ❄️Joe's snorted, he has been "educated" or "enlightened" - Eureka!! Doing charity work on the genocide in Gaza is an in-thing right now. I know Ramy Youseff (one of the celebrities listed) has been passionate about it for he's talked about it numerous times - seen his standup in NJ, and he's funny AF! I'd actually spend money on him.
Anyway, for Joe, I bet his PR team TOLD HIM to participate in this event for it is good PR, considering there are a lot of people who dislike him, he's got a movie coming up that he is the co-lead and also to improve his reputation since his IG followers have gone down. Heck, if I were his publicist, I would sign him up to do it too!
I get that. And I guess we’ll never know if he ACTUALLY gives a shit (I’m leaning towards no as rich white men seem to care the LEAST about issues outside of their lives, yes I’m generalising, no I won’t take it back eat my nuts) but I am glad he even said yes to it. There needs to be as many voices to this cause as possible and sadly celebrity voices ring loudest.

There's just something about reviews for Poor Things that paint all the male characters in this film in broad strokes, and talk about Bella as being the victim of all the male characters without taking into account the subjects of race, class, slavery and colonialism. Pray tell, how do the characters played by Jerrod Carmichael (Black man) and Ramy Youseff (Egyptian descent) in 1800s era England enjoy a higher status than this wealthy White woman?

Unfortunately a one-season wonder after a surprise cancellation, High Fidelity is an adaptation of both the 2000 film and 1995 novel of the same name. Yes, there’s a certain irony to ranking the show at number six.
#I may destroy you nick kroll movie#
High Fidelity – the novel, the movie and now this series – is about the solipsistic emotional damage that comes from filtering your deepest inner self through the same top-five filter you use to order your record collection. Bonus points for casting Toronto comedian Dave Merheje as one of Ramy’s always-advising best friends. Standalone detours for Ramy’s sister Dena, mother Maysa and blustery bigot Uncle Naseem never abandon the show’s mix of empathetic humanity and laugh-out-loud absurdity. The addition of Mahershala Ali as the no-nonsense Sheikh Ali Malik, who Ramy thirstily chooses as his spirit guide, takes this sleeper comedy to another level in season two. Ramy: Season 2 (Crave)Ĭentral character Ramy (Ramy Youseff) continues his self-searching quest to be a better Muslim and a better person but never stops self-sabotaging. Her revealing performance as a tender but fierce Indigenous mother is bottled up history, trauma, love and strength. The ensemble cast is wonderful but it’s Crystle Lightning who leaves us awestruck. Doing away with the fake politeness that persists on Canada’s primetime, this stab at the YA genre is an expletive-heavy and politically loaded series about a molly-peddling BC teen (Joel Oulette) who discovers the power and purpose of his ancestry. Trickster is thrilling, comical and beautiful. Michelle Latimer and Tony Elliott’s adaptation of the Eden Robinson novel Son Of A Trickster is proof that Canadian content that does right by representation doesn’t have to feel like a chore. For a show dealing with drug addiction and sexuality-related shame, all intertwined with the pitfalls of the kind of new relationship we don’t often see on TV, it’s still delightfully warm and packed with tender moments of reflection. The semi-autobiographical series written by and starring Canadian comedian Mae Martin delivers you the laughs and chemistry of a solid (and queer!) romantic comedy with the added bonus of realistic character and story development. With only six episodes, each less than 25 minutes, Feel Good is an easy binge-watch. When we got hooked: Episode 3, Trent Crimm, The Independent In short, it’s the show I didn’t know I needed this year. Think of Paddington, but with a guy from Kansas City instead of a bear – and a lot more swearing. And now, Sudeikis has expanded that blip of a concept into the year’s most purely pleasurable comedy: A fish-out-of-water show about a character so genuinely nice and compassionate that he ends up making everyone he meets into a better version of themselves. Jason Sudeikis created the role of Ted Lasso – a cheerful but clueless American football coach hired to manage an English Premier League team, apparently by mistake – for an NBC Sports ad campaign back in 2013. When we got hooked: Episode 2, Someone Is Lying Above all, I May Destroy You is a potent and brilliantly timed appeal for empathy and understanding. Everyone is a victim, everyone is a culprit and, often, their own worst enemy. She takes some of the most polarizing conversations of the past several years and probes them with unflinching honesty and manic stylistic flights into dark comedy that make the most of her wonderfully physical acting style. Over 12 episodes, this event will send Arabella careening inwards and outwards, complicating prescribed narratives around class, race, consent, liberation, exploitation and victimhood.
#I may destroy you nick kroll professional#
Coel created, stars in, wrote, co-directed and executive produced I May Destroy You, a wild and discursive ride through the psyche of London-based writer and social media star Arabella, who is sexually assaulted the night before a major professional deadline.

Michaela Coel’s latest TV series pushes the boundaries of TV storytelling in much the same way as its characters are examining boundaries in their lives and relationships. The 10 best TV shows of 2020 Courtesy of Bell Media 1. Check out our list of the best 25 TV shows of 2020 to see if you missed anything – and if you have, don’t feel bad about it! You’re about to discover your new favourite show. Seen anything good lately? The more relevant question, given the whole Stay Home, Do Nothing vibe of this year, is probably whether there’s anything left that you haven’t seen.īut of course there is: programming is spread out over so many streaming platforms, and in such quantity, that it’s hard to keep up with everything released in a given week, let alone a calendar year.

By order of the fookin’ PEAKY BLINDERS, it is done. It has been announced that the currently filming sixth season will be the series’ last.
Yep. No more staring into the tormented crystal blue eyes of Tommy Shelby.
Tumblr media
With the announcement of PEAKY BLINDERS’ cancellation comes the realisation that it is the second job Finn Cole has lost in a week.
The only worthwhile thing Michael Gray has done is the French inhale.
Tumblr media
On Thursday, TNT announced that the upcoming sixth season of ANIMAL KINGDOM will be its final season.
Tumblr media
Finn can be currently seen in the film DREAMLAND with Margot Robbie, and will next be seen in HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN, directed by actor Eoin Macken (The Night Shift, Merlin).
Tumblr media
The film also stars Dean Charles Chapman (1917), Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (Vikings, Sing Street) and Finn’s PEAKY BLINDERS wife Anya Taylor Joy.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Anya Taylor Joy, she is amongst the actors nominated for a Critics Choice Award.   Anya was nominated in the category of Lead Actress in a Limited Series/Made for TV Movie for Netflix’s THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT.
Tumblr media
Her competition in that category is: Shira Haas (Unorthodox), Cate Blanchett (Mrs. America), Michaela Coel ( I May Destroy You), Daisy Edgar Jones (Normal People, Tessa Thompson (Sylvie’s Love).
The surprises to me are Nicholas Hoult being nominated in Lead Actor for a Comedy Series
Tumblr media
amongst Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso),

Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadow), Eugene Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Hank Azaria (Brockmire) and Ramy Youseff (Ramy);  surprised by no nomination for Elle Fanning in THE GREAT, no nomination for Ben Whishaw, Timothy Olyphant, Jack Huston or any of the female actors who gave extraordinary performances this season of FARGO (congrats to Chris Rock and Glynn Turman for their nods); no Ethan Hawke nomination for his performance in THE GOOD LORD BIRD (though his two costars received nods); Quibi dominated the short form category but no nomination for THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME which garnered Christoph Waltz an Emmy nomination or #FreeRayshawn whose two leads Laurence Fishburne and Jasmine Cephas-Jones won Emmys; the nomination for Betsy Brandt in the superb finale of SOULMATES. I did not see that coming.
The other Critics Choice nominees.
