What I find interesting is how all the characters end up in a completely different place than where they started. That’s what I call good storytelling, when it’s all about the characters.
Maura starts with trying to convince herself she isn’t crazy, trying to never let emotions cloud her judgement and never letting things get to her. She ends up almost broken, drained, on her knees crying, begging Sebastian to bring Eyk back, ultimately doing whatever Daniel tells her in order to wake up.
Eyk starts being an authority to everyone on the ship, never letting anyone question his decisions (except Maura, he’s into that😏). He’s not answering to anyone and actually does what he wants and thinks is right. He ends up losing him mind, surrendering his authority, desperately searching for answers and never really getting any.
Angel and Lucien start on the same page, as wolves, dominant compared to their partners. Angel taking everything he wants, doing anything he wants without fear, while Ramiro remains in his shadow, Lucien keeping Clemence in the same spot with his anger and pride. They both end up dying. Angel’s last words being “I’m scared” and Lucien surrendering to his fate he thought he could escape. While Ramiro and Clemence step in, expend their borders and start being a vital part in the most important events on the ship. Jerome starts as suspicious to everyone, everyone always trying to keep him on a leash. Ends up being one of the people Clemence, Olek and Eyk relay on and someone who steps in to save the day.
Olek start off as no one. Keeps his head down and is trying to not get involved in anything. But his sense of justice, kindness and loyalty brings him to a point where he, just like Jerome, ends up being a hero, and ultimately Eyk’s right hand man. Ling Yi starts as someone on a leash, being controlled like a bird in a cage, not allowed to have dreams. Ends up doing whatever she wants, against everyone’s decisions.
Tove starts off as someone always having to fight for herself, as being the pillar of sanity in her family in spite of everything she’s been through. None of them ever there to protect her when she needed it, but her protecting herself and being the reason that controls her family’s desperate actions. She ends up finally experiencing how it feels like when someone fights for her for a change when Franz of all people sacrifices himself in order to protect and save her. Finally someone to put her first.
Virginia starts off as dominant and controlling, using other people for her own gain. She ends up afraid, begging and depending on kindness of others.

I couldn't properly synchronize the audio, but still, I felt like adding english subtitles to yesterday's scene from brazillian telenovela Terra e Paixão. If you're not latino, you may not know the impact that the telenovelas have in certain parts of the population. Hundreds of thousands of families every day gather up around the television just to see what will happen next- especially older people and people from inner cities. This one airs in the "noble airtime", the one that's most watched because it happens after people came home from their 9 to 5s.
I have a lot of criticisms as to how this couple is being written, especially because they started out as comic relief and the author seems to be refusing to let them develop past that. These two have been flirting for more than one hundred chapters and still haven't as much as kissed; and it's no secret that it's all because the channel is afraid of receiving homophobic backlash. But at the same time, all this dancing around each other fits the story in some way: it's all about a man who'd never been loved before having to come to terms with the fact that he's in love with another man. In the show, Ramiro is a working hand who was "raised" by his boss. He never studied, never had any opportunities, and learned from a very young age that his role in this world is to be aggressive and follow commands. He's treated less as a person and more as a rabid dog, and sure acts the part, hurting and killing the people his boss tells him to. And then he meets Kelvin, an openly gay man who starts showing him his worth for way beyond his job and his gun. They hit it off right away, their chemistry is fucking insane, except that there's one problem: the only thing Ramiro feels like he has in this world is his masculinity, and he feels threatened by his own emotions. He doesn't think he's allowed to love, especially not like this. And in a show that gets to the houses of thousands of people; including thousands of Ramiros who never had the chance to be happy, they finally had a scene openly talking about how it is possible to love. More than that, Kelvin, that so far had been only understanding and accepting of the few demonstrations of affection he could get, finally expressed the fact that he has his own feelings and refuses to be held back by what society thinks; so Ramiro can either follow him of fall behind. And this scene aired in a very important week here in Brazil: as queer people, our rights to get married are being questioned by congress. To have the telenovela that airs in "noble airtime" openly talk about how gay people can and will get married and start families is huge. And it's huge not just because of the people who are watching and finding themselves in the characters, but because of all the others who are watching as well. My mom, who wouldnt talk to me for days after I came out, now waits patiently until I get home just so she can tell me what happened with the gay couple in the telenovela she watches religiously. Yesterday, after this scene aired, my mom came to talk to me and we talked about how awful it is to have my rights questioned. Maybe thousands of moms out there were doing, or thinking, the same. Anyways, all of this to say that life is shit right now, and the representation queer people in marginalized countries get is far from being the best, but this scene got to me and I wanted other people to see it, all around the globe.

I can’t remember the last time a piece of media moved me in such a way as 1899 has. Rewatch after rewatch, I can’t get enough of how there is always some new detail for me to find. The complexity and detail from Bo and Jantje is nothing short of awe-inspiring, and it’s led me to writing fan fiction again for the first time in almost a decade.
1899 doesn’t just deserve another season—it demands one. I sincerely hope that we get to see what happens aboard the Prometheus one day.

1899: 1x08: "The Key": Prometheus Roll Call
Beware: Season 1 spoilers! If you have not watched all eight episodes of 1899 season 1 on Netflix, get thee to your streaming device and watch! Then come back for a quick review with some visual aids for episode 8. =)
This will be a review of the basic layout and head count in the closing scene of the finale. We see Maura wake up in a vertical sleep pod set into the wall of a cylindrical chamber. Her hair is shorn compared to her 1899 simulation 'do and she is dressed in a grey jumpsuit of the type that we saw her and Daniel wearing in Elliot's recovered memory.
Once she steps out of her pod, she takes in her surroundings. There are 16 sarcophagi in the cylindrical chamber. They are in four groups of four against the wall, separated by sections of wall with portholes. She begins with the group that includes her own now-empty pod and examines the room from left to right, or clockwise, as viewed from the top looking down.
ROLL CALL.
Block 1 (Maura's).
Virginia Wilson
Eyk Larsen
Maura Henriette Franklin Singleton (empty)
Krester
When she recognizes Eyk (sans shock of white in his beard), she is visibly surprised, even taking a few steps backward. Understandable, as the last time she saw him, his First Mate had shut him down and told her it would be "impossible" to bring him back. Still, I have to wonder if something else might be behind her reaction. In any case, she then looks down at her left hand and considers the wedding band on her ring finger for a second or three. Why at that moment? Because Eyk is her husband? Or because she must remind herself that she is married to Daniel?
When she looks back up from the ring, she turns her gaze directly on Krester, whose face is not scarred. Could it be Krester to whom she's married? Watch those seconds again, from Maura turning from the ring to Krester. It's as if she knows whose face she will see next.
Block 2.
Tove
Olek
Ling Yi
Yuk Je
Tove's sarcophagus does not appear to be any different in shape compared to everyone else's, but it's possible that its design might accommodate a pregnant woman without any outward sign or difference. Difficult to say, which means that Tove *might* be pregnant, but is not obviously so.
Block 3.
Iben
Anker
Angel
Ramiro
Block 4.
??? (empty)
Jérome
Clémence
Lucien
2099 PROMETHEUS MATH.
There do not appear to be any doors set into the wall. Once we get an exterior view, that makes sense. The chamber is one of several cylinders attached by their "floors" to a larger wide octagonal boxy base structure, ten of which are connected to one another in an oval ring revolving around the central axis of Spaceship Prometheus. There does not appear to be any inhabitable space directly above the chamber. I think this means that the only egress from the chamber, that doesn't lead to the vacuum of space, must be set into the floor, behind/in the middle of the ring of consoles and cables in the center of the room.
When we get a side view of the spacecraft, stem to stern, we see that there are two rings of ten octagonal boxes, and each of those boxes actually appears to be two conjoined blocks, and each of those blocks has eight cylindrical sleep chambers attached, four above and four below. Let's assume all the chambers have sixteen sarcophagi. If every pod holds a person, the ship carries 2 x 10 x 2 x 8 x 16 = 5120 people in hibernation.
The 2099 Prometheus readout tells us there are 1423 passengers and 550 crew, giving a total of 1973 people. Yikes. That's less than half capacity. Have we seen this scenario before…?
CAP: We're carrying barely any freight. Just like the Prometheus. Our cabins aren't fully occupied either. The company travels this route w/o making any profit.
OLEK: The bunkers are half loaded. Two are almost empty.
CAP: Am I mad? I know this ship inside out. This is not supposed to be here.
CAP: This is impossible. We're on a ship. How does a whole landscape fit inside a ship? MAURA: This isn't the only one.
CAP: It's as if all of this is somehow part of the ship…
If there hasn't been a catastrophic malfunction or accident on the 2099 Prometheus before Maura wakes, this *does* sound similar to the state of the 1899 Prometheus and Kerberos, launched with many fewer passengers and much less freight and supplies than capacity. And how was all that supposedly empty space used? It housed the backstory worlds of the passengers and crew. Does a similar traumatic funhouse await Maura and company in "2099"? Is this one virtual as well? Or—wishing/reaching—could it possibly be Westworld-ly physical?
WHO'S MISSING?
Everything we've seen and heard so far tells me that that empty berth must have been Ciaran's. Does Ciaran wear the face of someone we've already met in the simulation? Who of the 1899 Kerberos passengers and crew Maura interacted with is conspicuously absent in this chamber?
Daniel (Is he real? =)
First Mate Sebastian
Franz
Ada
Elliot (Is he on the passenger list of the 1899 Prometheus?)
Other travelers with whom Maura did not directly interact…
Garlic Necklace (aka Furnace Mulder)
Werewolf skeptic (aka Furnace Scully)
Mustached Adam Driver Crewman
COUPLED 2099ers?
Did the 2099 Prometheus assign paired/adjacent sarcophagi for couples and family who booked together? The placement of the sleepers in Maura's chamber does seem to support the idea (for me, at least =).
Eyk is beside Maura. (Of course =)
Maura is beside Krester. (I mention it because of that post-ring-gazing look.)
Olek is beside Ling Yi.
Iben is beside Anker.
Angel is beside Ramiro.
Jerome is beside Clemence is beside Lucien. (Interrrresting…)
Mystery Sleeper (Ciaran?) is beside Jerome
Have to say, I'm a little disappointed that Franz was not asleep next to Tove. =)
Just wanted to get this info Out There in this post. Will save follow-up theorizing on the identity and whereabouts of the mystery sleeper for future posts, hopefully.
Wake up 🜃
Keep on keepin’ on~

"One general law, leading to the advancement of all organic beings, is multiply. Therein, let the strongest live, and the weakest die. Eventually, a species can become complacent. At that point, a de-evolution can occur. A spiral downwards, signaling an end for that lifeform."

After a whole month, I can finally share this with everyone. I apologize if your favorite character is not here, I tried to include as many as possible but I wanted the lyrics to match the characters, so this is the result! I started working on this way before the cancellation was announced, so that was sad. I wanted to continue anyway, so I hope you guys will like it! I've worked so hard on this and I'm overall happy with it :)

I know there are lots of theories about Ángel and Ramiro’s simulation backstories, and I don’t know if this one has already been discussed, but Ramiro’s dialogue at the end of episode 3 got me thinking...
He says all of this is Ángel’s fault, assuming that “all of this” means the fact they have to run away and that Ramiro killed someone, basically their entire situation. (And before I continue let me be clear!!! I love Ángel. I love his character arc and I love him and Ramiro together. But he is not the greatest dude and the basis of his and Ramiro’s relationship is clearly a little toxic and fucked up, so just hear me out.)
These are the bits of Ramiro’s dialogue in ep 3 that really stick out to me --
-“You made me do all of this.”
-“None of this would have ever happened. You and I would have never happened.”
-“And all because of you. Because you can’t control yourself!”
-“You promised you’d change.”
Based on all of that, it’s pretty clear to me that they aren’t running away because a violent priest found out about Ángel and Ramiro being together -- a violent priest found out about Ángel because he got caught with a man (not Ramiro).
Ángel is clearly made out to be a playboy in the beginning of the series, establishing that ~that’s just the kind of guy he is~ (how much of that is just a facade is up for debate). Based on Ramiro’s dialogue here, Ángel has almost certainly cheated on people in the past, quite possibly including Ramiro. And I’m using the term “cheating” lightly because the Ángel we meet does not seem like the kind of person who commits to exclusive relationships in the first place. He and Ramiro most likely just fooled around while Ramiro worked for his family but were never exclusive (Ramiro is clearly in love with Ángel and probably wanted them to be). Ramiro knows he’s done this before. “You promised you’d change.” When they ran away together, Angel promised Ramiro he wouldn’t do it again.
I’m guessing Ángel was with some other man and got caught, either directly by this priest who knows him or by someone else who then informed the priest. When he went to punish Ángel, Ramiro found out and also went to try to stop him or to protect Ángel from getting beaten again (because he loves him so much, my sweet baby). Ramiro intervened, things got physical and it escalated, resulting in Ramiro accidentally killing the priest. He killed the priest because of Ángel. Because he was trying to protect him. If the priest had caught Ángel and Ramiro together, Ramiro killing him would have been self defense. If they had been caught together Ramiro would never say that this was all Ángel’s fault. It would have been a consequence of bothof their actions. And in this ep 3 scene, Ramiro finds Ángel’s drawing of Krester and knows he’s been with him. He knows Ángel cheated again and Ramiro finally releases all his pent up frustrations about how their entire situation is a direct result of Ángel’s choice to be unfaithful.
Add in Ángel stating at the end of the scene “I am who I am,” plus his dialogue from episode 2 where he told Ramiro he’s never pretended to be someone he’s not (a cheater a non-commitment type of person). Ángel was careless, got caught with a man, and Ramiro protected him. Ángel came up with their escape plan and convinced Ramiro to go along with it. “You and I would have never happened,” they wouldn’t be stuck together fleeing to America, literally depending on each other for survival, if Ángel hadn’t given in to his wandering eye and gotten caught.
I know it’s nicer to imagine a rose-colored backstory of them as passionate lovers who got caught together and vowed to never leave each other, but to me it just doesn’t match up with the conversations we’re given in the show. They’ve got a fucked up past and a twisted relationship, but that doesn’t make me love them any less!! The whole second half of the series shows us how much they truly love each other, and at the end of the day their real relationship outside the simulation probably isn’t as fucked up as this one, so yeah. End of thoughts!!
