"they are fair and gallant as Elven-lords; and that is not to be wondered at in the sons of Elrond of Rivendell." —Legolas, LOTR
I couldn't resist.

Doster 80s/90s
80s fashion, 90s fashion

80’s fashion, 90’s fashion. A time dizzily balanced between opulence and austerity. A period filed away too hastily and superficially amid the worn out commonplaces of hypertrophic shoulder straps and excessive consumption of lacquer… In going back over those two decades for this book Michael Doster has selected more than 300 fashion photos shot, precisely, between the early 80’s and the advent of so called minimalism and the mass use of Photoshop, a period when, in the photographer’s opinion, “the art of makeup, styling and shooting could still be defined as such.” So in the foreground the grandeur of fashion, which makes a show of itself now on top of New York skyscrapers, now in the Paris boulevards where splendid models pose like spellbinding sirens. Doster thus directs an uninterrupted défilé, between sportswear and couture: Ungaro, Sherrer, Saint Laurent, on the one hand, and Calvin Klein, De la Renta, Ralph Lauren on the other. Scintillating clothes, kitsch and haute couture star systems, intermingled on a catwalk featuring the breathtaking beauty of Gia Carangi, Marpessa, Isabel Pasco, Iman and other leading figures of the day. Super models, super heels, super makeup, super bijoux in a book to be leafed through straight off, like a glossy magazine… Born in 1938, Michael Doster attended Photography School in Zurich and later began his career as a photographer in Munich. After working in Milan and Paris, in 1974 he moved to New York where he has worked with the most prestigious fashion houses.

Hollin Gate by Ralph Damiani
The Moon now shone upon the grey face of the rock; but they could see nothing else for a while. Then slowly on the surface, where the wizard’s hands had passed, faint lines appeared, like slender veins of silver running in the stone. At first they were no more than pale gossamer-threads, so fine that they only twinkled fitfully where the Moon caught them, but steadily they grew broader and clearer, until their design could be guessed.

This week Martin Luther King and Ralph Abernathy's 1968 Poor People's Campaign was taken back up by Pastor William Barber of Greenleaf Christian Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and Liz Theoharis, a minister and anti-poverty campaigner from New York. People began by gathering outside the U.S. Capitol to protest economic inequality and racial injustice. After 40 days of these protests — in D.C., North Carolina, Missouri, and California — activists from around the country will converge on Washington for a mass demonstration on 23 June. These images are reproduced from ‘Jill Freedman: Resurrection City, 1968’ – documenting the culmination of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign in Washington DC, during which 3000 people set up camp for 6 weeks in a makeshift town that was dubbed Resurrection City, and participated in daily protests. Freedman lived in the encampment for its entire 6 weeks, photographing the residents, their daily lives, their protests and their eventual eviction. Full of Grace

Fotografi: Alfred #Stieglitz, André #Kertész, Lewis #Hine, Jacques-Henri #Lartigue, Walker #Evans, Dorothea #Lange, W. Eugene Smith, Helen Levitt, Robert Frank, Henri #Cartier-Bresson, Gordon Parks, #Brassai, Garry #Winogrand, Ralph #Gibson, Bruce #Davidson, Larry #Clark, Duane #Michals, Gilles Peress, Robert #Mapplethorpe, Sebastião #Salgado, Sally Mann, Philip-#LorcadiCorcia, David #LaChapelle, Bruce Weber...                                        The evolution of the concept of childhood during the last 150 years of history of photography is the topic of this book through the works of worldwide photographers. A comprehensive critical text analyses this theme in its social aspects.
