Stow-on-the-Wold is the last stop of the tour. This village is a big part of why I booked this tour over other ones since it is home to the doorway that inspired the entrance to the Mines of Moria in the lord of the rings! (The speak friend and enter doors.)
This village is also home to several antique shops and is the location of England’s oldest pub.
I get a bakewell tart for the trip back and despite the sugar spend the wet drive back napping. All the early mornings are starting to catch up with me.

For the #Drawlloween prompt ‘It Lives in the Mountain’ - I finished it yesterday with moments to spare, and then realized I left the ground blank. Oh well. The point of doing this art challenge is to not get too precious with my work.
There are few things I love more than mash-ups and puns

People give Legolas a lot of shit for not saying anything when Frodo asks what the elvish word for friend is in the movies, but you know what? FRODO SPEAKS ELVISH. Both Sindarin and Quenya, and he can read them too, and the “elvish word for friend” is written right there in the door in front of him, so even if he forgot it or wasn’t sure which form to use HE COULD JUST READ IT.

This, this, a thousand and one times this, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Fantasy. Part of the reason fantasy is so gritty and realistic these days is because modern, smarmy audiences so accustom to Joss Whedon snark-a-minute dialogue could never just look at the big pointy hat of a wise old wizard without having to have their emotional support asshole to be like "you fight in THAT? *snort"
I could not fathom that scene in Fellowship of the Rings at the Doors of Durin as written by writers who think they're way too clever for Fantasy.

Got bored and decided to do the doors as a small project, but it ended up being a bit larger than needed for a size, so it ended up becoming a medium card instead or rather it ended up the size of a medium card in regards to that it needed to be multiple layers. Regardless, still working on something else in the mind. It’s complicated, but I was thinking perhaps a little smallish thing. Haven’t exactly started on another idea, still thinking of something.

one interesting thing about having read the silmarillion before lord of the rings is seeing which characters get mentioned in the main books and which ones don’t. for example, feanor and celebrimbor both get several mentions but the sons of feanor have had none so far. of course tolkien can’t mention every elf who ever lived when he has a plot to get through as well but i do wonder if it has something to do with the fact that the legacies of both those characters involved leaving behind something they made which was lasting and important while the sons of feanor only left destruction.

I did some art! This was a gift for a secret santa art exchange and I'm really happy with how it came out!! The way the background came out makes me think of the paper covers on a hardback book when you take the sleeve off. Also hatching is my new favorite rendering style
