Goffin fights back from the brink to beat Granollers
BARCELONA (Reuters) – World number 10 David Goffin survived a scare against Spaniard Marcel Granollers after fighting back from 5-1 down in the second set to win his second round tie in the Barcelona Open on Tuesday 4-6 7-6(2) 6-2.
Granollers, ranked 129 in the world, made a flying start but he never recovered after spurning a match point and collapsed in the latter stages of the second set, losing the tiebreak before being wiped out in the third.
“It’s really hard when you are so close and don’t kill off the game. It feels very tough to lose today, I’m not thinking positive things right now,” Granollers told reporters.
Feliciano Lopez of Spain, who beat Dusan Lajovic 6-4 2-6 6-4, and Malek Jaziri of Tunisia, who downed Ernesto Escobedo 6-4 6-3, will both join Goffin in the third round.
Spaniard Roberto Carbelles Baena earned the right to face world number one and 10-times tournament winner Rafael Nadal on Wednesday after comfortably beating Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-2 6-4 in a first-round match.
Japan’s Kei Nishikori also enters the second round on Wednesday after receiving a bye and will face Spaniard Guillermo Garcia Lopez for the right to play Nadal or Carbelles Baena in the last 16, potentially setting up a re-match of last Sunday’s Monte Carlo Masters final which Nadal won.
Former world number one Novak Djokovic will face Slovak Martin Klizan in the second round on Tuesday after receiving a late wildcard entry as he continues his comeback from a long injury lay off after getting knocked out in Monte Carlo in the last 16.
“I hadn’t planned on coming here but last Thursday when I finished in Monte Carlo we decided we wanted an invite,” the Serbian told a news conference.
“I haven’t played much this year and I want to play without thinking about my shoulder. Monte Carlo was the first tournament I’ve played in over a year without any pain and I’m happy about that.”
Djokovic could meet Nadal in the quarter-finals if they both win their next two matches.
Spaniard Jaume Munar will meet last year’s runner-up Dominic Thiem in the second round after seeing off Joao Sousa 6-4 3-6 7-5.

Wimbledon 2017: Bracket, schedule and scores for men's draw
Can Roger Federer lift his eighth Wimbledon championship? We have coverage throughout the tournament.
Wimbledon, the third and arguably biggest Grand Slam on the tennis calendar, gets underway on Monday, and it has a full field of men with a shot at capturing the title. But there’s one man, Roger Federer, who is favored to take the tournament.
Federer has won Wimbledon seven times in his career, and he sat out the clay court season and the French Open to preserve himself for the grass courts of Wimbledon.
The results seem to be paying off, and Federer will enter the tournament as the heavy favorite even over top seed Andy Murray and other high seeds like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who won the French Open.
Murray and Djokovic have been struggling in recent tournaments, and Stan Wawrinka hasn’t looked good on the grass thus far. Nadal obviously won at Roland Garros, but he too isn’t as good as Federer on grass courts.
Coverage of all courts throughout the tournament will be available for viewing in the United States, and you won’t have to miss a match.
Below is the full bracket, television and live streaming information for watching Wimbledon in the U.S., and a full schedule/results, updated daily throughout the tournament. Wimbledon will run from Monday, July 3 through Sunday, July 16.
Bracket

Viewing information
As usual, ESPN will carry television coverage of Wimbledon in the United States. Coverage will exist primarily on the flagship ESPN network, with some coverage rolling over into ESPN2.
Online streaming of the entire Wimbledon Grand Slam will also be available, as usual, via WatchESPN and the ESPN App on various devices. All courts will be available for live streaming throughout the tournament, and you don’t have to miss a match.
Other streams can be had through services like PlayStation Vue and SlingTV, along with any others that carry ESPN in their packages.
Below is a list of days and which channels you can watch the action on, and below that is the full tournament schedule and results, updated daily.

Karlovic beats former Barcelona Open champion Robredo
MADRID (Reuters) – Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic hit 29 aces as he beat Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-7(5) 7-6(8) 6-4 in the first round of the Barcelona Open on Monday.
The Croatian, both the oldest and tallest player at the clay court tournament at 39 years old and 211 centimeters, used his cannonball serve to beat the former champion at the club he has trained at since he was 14.
Karlovic will face another Spaniard in eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut on Tuesday in the round of 32.
Pablo Cuevas, Rogerio Dutra Silva, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Marcel Granollers, Malek Jaziri, Leonardo Mayer and Stefanos Tsitsipas all progressed in straight sets.
Dusan Lajovic beat Pedro Martinez 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3, while Benoit Paire squeezed past Nicolas Jarry 7-6(4) 6-7(3) 6-4.
Tournament favorite Rafael Nadal will be looking to triumph for the 11th time at the event on the court named in his honor. He gets into action on Wednesday against the winner of Andreas Haider-Maurer against Roberto Carballes Baena.
Fresh from winning at Monte Carlo, Nadal is looking to take the Barcelona Open title for the third year running.
“It’s a very difficult field and my draw is not going to be easy,” the 31-year-old told a news conference on Monday. “I will have some tough opponents. I will need to play very well.”
Nadal will face late entry Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals should both players reach that stage.
