College classes

Open RP for Females only

This was it, year 3 of college. The college wasn't super impressive, but the arts classes were one of the best in the area. It was late morning and after a morning of PE with Coach Sully it was time to show up to AP Art III. This class had always been taught by Professor Trent J. McKnight, at least for the last decade. The Professor was a tall, slim Albino gecko, who adorned a light tan suit. He had bright red eyes, a slightly bulbous tail, and stood behind his desk, scanning every student who entered with a gentle smile on his face. He looked to be in his early 30s, but he did well to hide a strange tiredness dwelling within him. He seemed filled with energy watching all of his students, and yet, his eyes could barely hide his weariness

We’ll be getting the following new functions:

Part 1 (beginning 11 Mar):

Event Recall - Previously completed stories will be available to enjoy in the same way the original events were presented (instead of just the story in archive form). If the event story has not already been unlocked through normal play through, it will require gems to unlock. Missed rhythmics will be made available in the RHYTHMIC page once cleared. This is available through the Story tab.

Memory Shop - Items that were previously available during events (such as extra cards and groovy items, etc.) will be available in the Memory Shop. Memory Medals are required to purchase items from this shop, which can be bought in the gem shop, or during this event in the Tuna Can 2024 Shop. You must have finished the event either via the original run or from the Event Recall for items to be available for purchase.

Crewel/Trein/Vargas Item Gacha - New Item Gacha will be available that require "Reward Medals" to roll in. These Reward Medals will be dropped during lessons. The Item Gachas will have items from those respective lessons available. In addition, Crewel's Item Gacha will have the new Buddy Lv Up Items.

Buddy Lv Up Items - The Friendship Herb Tea will be available to increase Buddy Levels of cards. There will be three tiers (L, M, and S) and will be dropped during Alchemy and Special classes.

Other Changes

Up to 25 teams can be saved for use during battles. Support or Guest cards cannot be saved in a team.

Support Cards can be pinned, so that they will be easily accessible whenever you need that support.

There will be an option to favorite specific story chapters available from the Archive screen.

Single Magical Keys can now be converted to a Tenfold Magical Key, given that you have 10 single keys available.

Lesson Skip Tickets will become available. This cannot be used for Special lessons.

Collect Battles can be completed in a batch similar to Tests.

Magic Lv can be increased multiple levels at once instead of one at a time.

Battle Speed can now be set to 3x.

AP, BP, and RP can be refilled in batches instead of one at a time.

The Trouble sequence in the Guest Room can be skipped.

The Guest Room invite time will be reduced.

Part 2 (Beginning 15 Mar):

Second Floor of the Guest Room - A second floor to the Guest Room will be added that can be decked out with its own theme, furniture, and BGM. This will unlock at room rank 31.

Event BGM added to Guest Room - The BGM Shop will have previous event BGM available.

Other Changes

New voice lines for alchemy and flight classes.

New voice lines for when changing attire form on the home screen.

Room rank maximum raised to 40.

Part 3 (Beginning 18 Mar):

New Cumulative Missions - Missions regarding cards/lessons/exams will be added to the Missions tab.

Weekly Missions Updated - Clearing Rhythmics 3 and 5 times will be removed, and instead will be replaced by Win 5 and 10 Collect Battles.

The Tuna Can [2024] is an event drop and you can get 1, 2 or 5 randomly by completing lessons (History, Flying or Alchemy). You can see how many you have on the bottom of the Event Page. Left is how many you have right now (so if you spent some, the number is lower), right is how many you have collected until now (this is what you need to make Grim permanent).

To quickly go to Grim’s lessons from the event page, click on the Lesson button on the Main Event page or go all the way to the right on the Lesson Page, right after Diasomnia.

When you click on Grim’s card to level him up, you’ll get a message reminding you that he isn’t permanent yet, so items and madol spent on him will also disappear if you don’t make him permanent in time. Just click the black button to proceed.

One of the missions is to level up one of Grim’s magic to Lv.5 and we suggest you start with his M1 if only to complete the missions faster, because you use Tuna Cans to level up magic and the amount needed for each magic is different. (To level up magic, just click on the 4th tab: 魔法Lv)

…so I decided to check out Polygon’s D20 coverage, and frankly I think you were entirely too kind to them. Good. GOD, some of that stuff read like they’ve never watched AP that *wasn’t* CR, D20 or the first season of TAZ. And have somehow made it thru the 2010s without encountering urban fantasy…

Anyway, to further nudge you towards your destiny of AP journalism (and with the understanding that you have a Real Job and a life outside TTRPGs and the internet); can you please expand on what you think D20 brings to the table?(pun unintended, but I stand by it) Because speaking as someone who has watched a handful of eps and enjoys the concepts, the praise PG were offering was damningly faint.

Hi! Thank you, and for what it's worth I don't think most of them have listened to the first season of TAZ either, given the way they talk about WBN as inventing the actual play longform podcast. I do want to note: I like writing longform stuff about actual play but I am adamantly not a journalist. I am not investigating or interviewing or reporting; I'm doing analysis and editorial. Amateur critic is the most I can claim to and that's a stretch (and even there I have a particular privilege in that I'm writing all this for free, anonymously, by choice, and don't need be be nice or maintain relationships with actual play performers within the space because I could burn every bridge and still make rent.)

Anyway. I think a major flaw of Polygon is that it's so focused on novelty and subversion that it forgets a well-worn concept, executed with skill, is actually great and for many people, preferable. Brennan, from everything I have heard him say and from how he actually runs games, has a deep respect for fantasy as a genre, and the stories he tells in D20 are ones he is clearly familiar with and loves. I also think to subvert things you must be a fan, and when D20 does successfully subvert or twist a genre, it's coming from a place of respect and understanding.

Anyway, just covering a few Intrepid Heroes seasons: I think Fantasy High (and I haven't gotten to the latest episode of Junior Year) is actually increasingly a brilliant deconstruction of D&D as a game by making the world aware that it's in a D&D game. What does it mean to be in a D&D party and be an adventurer and have that be a significant part of who you are? What does it mean to be a commoner in this world? What do you do when you're sort of a broke teen in generic suburbia but also you need the loot that an adventurer would theoretically get from dragon hoards? Why do you have to know what your life's calling will be when you're 14? One of my personal favorite things, as a lover of mechanics and TTRPGs as a system of storytelling and more generally as someone who believes that your medium of choice should be informing the story you tell, is when people engage with character roles and classes instead of treating them as just a set of cool things you can do, and Fantasy High very much pushes the players to do this. I also mentioned elsewhere that the downtime stress mechanics are a brilliant addition to one of the genuine gaps in D&D, namely, while downtime is a time for open RP, there's not a good way to handle things like stress or crafting or prioritizing well.

The Unsleeping City is one I like, honestly, just because I lived in New York for a few years and Brennan lived there far longer (as did much of the cast, though not all) and his love for it is apparent. I don't think it's groundbreaking; I just think it's really good. The characters are excellent and the story is fun. It's true that, for example, it allows you the satisfaction of making Amazon's and its attempted move into Long Island City the BBEG and smiting its ass instead of having to harangue your senators and councilpeople (as I did, and I wasn't even living in Queens) but really it's just a good story. It doesn't need to be more than that. It did not invent urban fantasy or the idea of a secret magical version of a real city or "most myths are real"; it's just a good story!

I think A Crown of Candy is also just a fun setting and, by making everyone food, emphasizes how petty and arbitrary the alliances in a Game of Thrones-esque milieu can be. It casts a scathing eye on religious interpretation as a tool for conquest without clumsily proclaiming the mere concept of religion is the problem. It has one of the best explorations of character death I've seen and Brennan's acting as Caramelinda remains a tour de force for him. Bringing the entire story of succession and war down to a final choice between two half-sisters remains a brilliant decision, the setting is supported by the mechanical limits Brennan imposed upon character creation, and it's overall beautifully done.

Even Neverafter, which I think have openly said didn't live up to its initial promise, had that promise with the fantastic handling of the TPK; I have a love for metanarrative and honestly my issue is that it was the wrong place to do metanarrative, but it was a bold choice to do in the unpredictable medium of actual play.

That's really only covering a fraction - I think some other standouts are Mentopolis, A Court of Fey and Flowers, Coffin Run, and Escape from the Bloodkeep, and while Shriek Week is just not a genre I'm personally super drawn to, I think the Mythic system is a great system for the story being told and Hicks does a great job running it.

Really what it comes down to is that D20 falls in between what a lot of shows are. It doesn't have the freedom but also the burden of a very long-running campaign (indeed, WBN exists because its performers, all of whom have featured in D20, wanted to be able to do longform actual play), nor is it quite as rushed as an all-miniseries or one-shot show. It has space to explore one or two things really well without having to carry a thousand different threads (and believe me, Brennan tries to put in as many as he can in that space - I actually wonder if the reason Fantasy High Junior Year feels a little more streamlined to me is that WBN was by that time in full swing). But it's not the first edited actual play, it mostly uses very widespread systems, the production values are high but not unheard of elsewhere (and I think that production values in AP beyond the basic 'can you hear and, if relevant, see things clearly and does the set look nice' are overrated though that's a personal preference), the cast is strong but not the first group of professionals or even comedians, and they didn't invent the concept of filming remotely or scrims or having an anticapitalist message.

My issue with the journalists, to reiterate that, is that they're not really doing much journalism, actually; and that their bias is horribly apparent. There's little analysis - just shallow reviews that show little understanding of actual play as a medium, fantasy as a genre, or TTRPGs as a system. And while being entirely free of bias is unavoidable - we are people, and we will bring our own interpretations and experiences in, and there are people who will love D20 and dislike Critical Role without doing so in bad faith - the fact that several of the journalists have openly crowed and preened about their special access to the D20 cast really makes it apparent that they like D20 because Dropout gives them early access and says nice things about them. And it's a feedback loop; Critical Role is going to keep saying "well, you constantly shit on us, so no, you don't get early access" and they'll keep writing bad reviews because they don't get early access.

But to return to the point, D20 is legitimately great and yeah the bias in my mind is only hurting them because, speaking only for myself, if there's two things I like and people heap fawning and inaccurate praise on one and nitpick the other? I'm going to start looking into that praise and find more flaws, and I'm going to start defending the nitpicked one. I really love Fantasy High Junior Year but the Polygon article is so bad I have to remind myself that it's just because the person who wrote it is an idiot. I probably would have gone into Kollok much more neutrally if people didn't act like it was the fucking invention of television. Do give D20 a try if you can! Don't read the articles.

Glitchedpuppet's weird racism and how it bled into Floraverse and by extent the Roleplays

This is all anecdotal evidence from memory so I'm sorry if this seems a little weird but I was thinking abt it again and decided I'd write it out.

I guess I should start by introducing my character again for those who don't know her. I played a masked owl named Chrosocolla. Chrosocolla is a demon. This is important.

There's this sort of caste system in floraverse that while your "caste" can be changed with rare or weird magic, it is generally the caste you are born in and stay in your whole life.

DREAMERS- this is the majority group of critters, they take up topside, Owel, and a majority of Eastar.

Demons- Demons live in hellside, Owel, and are found in Eastar, but are not as common.

Imps- they're a sort-of subcategory of demons which happens when a demon and dreamer of two different species have a child together.

Angels- Locked away as slaves in undertown by Andre, often lash out violently at non-angels but not always.

Dreamers and imps can be turned to angels via magic or severe trauma. Demons can be turned into dreamers and vice versa via magic.

Chrosocolla was often treated very poorly in rps and I did not know why until someone mentioned that everyone mostly hated her because of her demon status, but that their character wouldn't hate her for that reason anymore because they're a demon now too. I was not told this was going to be an issue in the roleplays before hand. In rp, it was supposed to be the jobs of the dreamers to save the angels from undertown and hellside and end the war on angels. I've considered that maybe the hatred for demons came from what Andre did to the angels, but that makes no sense because nobody knew about that until the end of AP, and it was only explained more properly halfway through through the Althar event. That means everyone was shitty towards demons for no fucking reason other than they could be.

I mostly bring this up because it kind of mirrors how I saw glip treat racism irl and how they seem to maybe have that White Savior complex to them. They also said weird shit abt latinos but never about any other race (apparently Marl was a latino), which also weirded me out and still does. It always felt like "racism is bad, except for the people I hate, in which case it's justified."(it's never justified)

KoTPoTA RP Idea: Zombie Apocalypse

Based on a dream I had (and further conversation with an anon!).

A new virus emerged decades ago but this one affects humans and apes. It’s origins are unknown but apes and intelligent humans all call it the same name: zombies.

They roam in hordes, rarely ever alone and are always hungry. They eat their victims alive…Tear them apart with their teeth…But that’s not the end of it. Anyone they eat turns into zombies themselves.

They are mindless killers that cannot be stopped, not with spears and arrows anyhow. In the coast, Proximus is desperate to open the vault as he believes it may hold the key to destroying the zombie threat once and for all.

Or, at the very least, better weapons for the apes to protect themselves.

As part of this goal, Proximus orders his followers to kidnap other ape clans. Believing he could protect them if they became his…Building his own kingdom in the process.

TLDR: Noa, Raka, Mae, Sylva and Lightning fight a zombie horde instead of encountering the humans at the lake and have to fight them before entering Proxy’s kingdom.

We're both close to Bella and we both want to keep her safe. So I think it would be a good idea if we work on a plan to look out for her safety. I already gave her a bracelet with some protection charms against physical stuff and poison but I feel like that won't be enough. So uh - gather your brothers and we can game plan on ways to look out for Bella.

Even if her death is just a morbid possibility we should plan for it and to prevent it. We'll all be safer and happier in the long run if we don't ignore the problem.

Guest Room Cleaning Drop Rate

Welcome to another too-many-numbers post with Mod Jeido.

If you're interested in some of the other posts, there's this one on Gauntlet drop rates, this one on ATK UP/DMG UP differences, and this one on Curse and Evasion activation rates.

We spent the last 6 months collecting gifts and adding to a spreadsheet in order to figure out approximate drop rates. These aren't absolute, but they're probably the closest we'll get without asking ANIPLEX directly.

I'll go more in-depth under the cut, but generally, these were the drop rates we saw for each category:

Stickers: 37.8%

Honey: 27.2%

Notepads: 12.3%

Textbooks: 8.5%

Gifts: 7.4%

Shards: 4.3%

Grimoires: 2.6%

We collected both from JP and EN and combined it for the percentages above, since it should be the same rate regardless. The analysis under the cut will delve into a little more detail. Please take each number as an "approximate" value, as some may be rounded.

STICKERS

Stickers were the most common drop at 38% of ALL drops. There are five types of stickers: Stylish, Basic, Elegant, Pop (Cute), and Unique. These are the respective stickers for each theme.

We had a total of 649 stickers (198 from JP, 450 from EN).

We found that each sticker type had an equal chance of appearing (20%) given that a sticker was dropped.

Overall, any single sticker type has a 7.4% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

HONEY

Honey made up 27% of ALL drops. There are three types of honey: Phial (S), Jar (M), and Jug (L) of Blooming Honey.

We had a total of 466 honey drops (149 from JP, 317 from EN). We found the following to be the approximate drop rate of each type of Honey:

Honey S: 65% of all honey drops. Approximately 17% of all possible drops.

Honey M: 25% of all honey drops. Approximately 7% of all possible drops.

Honey L: 10% of all honey drops. Approximately 3% of all possible drops.

NOTEPADS

Notepads made up 12% of ALL drops. There are four types of Notepads: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 211 notepads (76 from JP, 135 from EN).

We found that each notepad type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a notepad was dropped.

Overall, any single notepad type has a 3% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

TEXTBOOKS

Textbooks made up 9% of ALL drops. There are four types of Textbooks: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 145 textbooks (52 from JP, 93 from EN).

We found that each textbook type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a textbook was dropped.

Overall, any single textbook type has a 2% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

GIFTS

Gifts made up 7% of ALL drops. There are 23 types of gifts, which are unique to each NRC student.

We had a total of 127 gifts (45 from JP, 81 from EN).

We found that each gift type had an equal chance of appearing (4.3%) given that a gift was dropped.

Overall, any single gift type has an 0.4% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

SHARDS

Shards made up 4% of ALL drops. There are three types of shards: Starshards, Sunshards, and Moonshards. These give refills for AP/LP, RP/GP, and BP/EP respectively.

We had a total of 73 shards (23 from JP, 50 from EN).

We found that each shard type had an equal chance of appearing (33%) given that shards were dropped.

Overall, any single shard type has an 1.5% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

GRIMOIRES

Grimoires made up 3% of ALL drops. There are four types of Grimoires: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 44 grimoires (16 from JP, 28 from EN).

We found that each grimoire type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a grimoire was dropped.

Overall, any single grimoire type has an 0.7% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

No hate but it just weird seeing every other person dunking on him as unlovable then I come here and see a fanfic where he is just... Not as asshole? It OOC.

Are you talking about my most recent fanfic portrayal with AFO or stuff like Family Matters and how it tries to make him seem sympathetic?

If makes you feel better Inko and by extension, Izuku(in my other fanfic) are meant to be exceptions, not the rule. They make HIM want to be better rather than him just naturally being better. I mean he still doing some bad stuff in the background in his attempt to cut ties.

I am more than aware some might see it as OOC but I think others might enjoy a refreshing interpretation of him just being a dad and awkward husband. Like yeah, he is still pretty evil but not to his family and him trying to put that divide is fun. ESPECIALLY writing it with Inko there trying to teach him how to people as she honestly knows he struggling in the empathy department.

Fun fact, I studied and researched Antisocial personality disorder in my RP years and took some AP psychology in highschool. I wanted to understand what people think of as Sociopathy/psychopathy especially when saw people attributing it to AFO. Then noted it doesn't mean he HAS to be evil but it definitely can make it easier to fall in. I also love the idea that he needed Yoichi to feel good about himself rather than actually 'believing' that Yoichi needed him.

Honestly the biggest reason why he might seems OOC is to me his family fulfills the void he tried to force Yoichi in. Inko doesn't MIND being the stay-at-home mom nor has any huge ambitions that would cause conflict. Allowing Hisashi to be the breadwinner that cares for her, and with a small Izuku he is reminded how he was honestly a TERRIBLE parental figure with Yoichi as had no idea what he is doing. So tries to navigate it carefully while constantly looking at Inko for help.

Will note, he didn't exactly tell her about the 200 years of evil but did imply a shady past to Inko. Which is why is encouraging him to do that.

It's just to bad in fanfics like Birdcage and some other where he still does villainy all that 'progress' is basically reversed because the world once again took someone he loved away so he basically reverts back to paranoid and evil. And if I'm writing a canon after head smash? Hatred turned his desire to protect family into a weapon to destroy everything that separated him.

AKA, he has no healthy coping mechanism for any form of grief and makes it everyone else's problem. But give him security and he seems weirdly nice and docile because it all he wanted.
