We Need Your Support Now More Than Ever
Hello friends.
We are LGBTIQ refugees from East Africa, and we are facing unimaginable challenges in the refugee camps where we have been displaced. Every day, we struggle to survive in hostile environments filled with homophobia and persecution. Our lives are constantly at risk, and we need your help to make it through these difficult times.
Despite the challenges, we have some good news to share! The first group of LGBTIQ refugees from our community is finally heading to Canada. This is a huge milestone for us, and it wouldn't have been possible without your incredible support. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by us, and we ask that you continue to support us in whatever way you can.
But we still have a long way to go. Many of us remain in these camps, living in fear and uncertainty. We are asking, kindly, for your donations to our fundraiser. Every penny counts—whether it’s for food, medication, or shelter, your contribution helps us survive another day.
Even though it's difficult to keep asking, we can’t stop. Our lives and futures depend on your generosity. Please, if you can, donate to our cause. Together, we can create a safer future for our community.
Thank you for your continued support, and let’s keep moving forward.
Other ways to Donate.⬇️
With gratitude,
Phill and the LGBTIQ refugee community

Reflecting on the Bishop’s Statement to President Trump
The recent plea from a U.S. bishop asking President Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ migrants is a powerful reminder of the critical need for compassion and humanity in addressing the struggles of queer communities worldwide. While this call is directed toward the United States, it resonates deeply with us LGBTQ refugees in East Africa who face unimaginable persecution simply for existing.
In our countries, being LGBTQ is illegal and often punishable by imprisonment or death. We live under constant threat not only from the law but also from hostile communities, violent attacks, and systemic discrimination that leaves us without shelter, healthcare, or basic human dignity. Many of us were forced to flee our homes and families, only to find that refugee camps like Kakuma and Gorom offer no true sanctuary. Here, we are silenced, beaten, and in some cases, killed for daring to be ourselves.
The bishop’s statement reminds the world that mercy is not just an abstract value but a responsibility for those in positions of power. Yet, mercy should not be limited to the borders of one country. It must extend to the corners of the world where LGBTQ people are most vulnerable places like East Africa, where being queer is a daily fight for survival.
We urge the global community, including faith leaders, activists, and allies, to amplify our voices and demand justice. Mercy is not enough if it does not come with action. We need decriminalization, protection, access to basic services, and the chance to live without fear.
To the bishop and others advocating for LGBTQ migrants: thank you for your courage and leadership. Please do not forget us LGBTQ refugees in East Africa who are still crying out for solidarity. We, too, are part of the global queer family, and we need your voices to speak up for us.
Together, we can call on governments, organizations, and individuals to move beyond mercy to meaningful action. Let’s fight for a world where no one is criminalized for love, and every LGBTQ person, no matter where they are, has the right to live in freedom and dignity.
Signed,
LGBTQ Refugees in East Africa
Bishop asks Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ people and migrants He was simply asked to show mercy toward our marginalized groups of people. Yet being asked to treat vulnerable groups of men, women and children with some small amount of basic human decency made these MAGA Republicans visibly uncomfortable. To be clear, he wasn't asked to support these groups, or even show them a little kindness. He was simply asked to please treat them like human beings — to not single them out and treat them like subhuman "animals," as Trump has called them. There is something deeply and truly wrong with someone who views acting with even just a bare minimum of human decency is asking too much of them — as if things like Honor, Integrity and Compassion are repugnant to their very soul.

Migranti LGBT: ascoltare per non discriminare
Tumblr media

What This Means for Queer Refugees🏳️‍🌈
Hey everyone, I need to talk about something critical for LGBTQ+ refugees like me who rely on the UN and the U.S. for survival and resettlement.
According to this report, Trump is planning to withdraw the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council and extend the funding ban on UNRWA, the agency that supports Palestinian refugees but also plays a role in humanitarian aid across regions. This is alarming because the U.S. has been a major player in UN resettlement programs including UNHCR, which many LGBTQ+ refugees depend on to escape violence, persecution, and statelessness.
For many of us, the UN resettlement programs are our last hope for safety. If funding is cut and U.S. influence weakens in these agencies, more of us will be left stranded in dangerous camps and hostile environments. Queer refugees already face extreme discrimination, starvation, violence, and lack of medical care. Without international support, survival becomes even harder.
We cannot stay silent. The global queer community and allies must stand against policies that harm refugees and strip away their pathways to safety. Please share this post, raise awareness, and support refugee-led advocacy efforts.
Solidarity can save lives. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽

Hello world🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈❤️🙏
It has been a while since I last made a post here, but today, I’m here with a heavy heart and a message that needs to be heard: the lives of LGBTQ refugees in East Africa have not improved. Daily persecution is still the norm, and discrimination and hate have become the air we breathe. Each day, we face attacks physical, emotional, and systemic from both local communities and authorities.
Tumblr media
So many queer personalities, community leaders, and advocates have fallen victim to death due to the rampant homophobia. We have lost friends, partners, and allies. Being LGBTQ is still criminalized, and that leaves us no room for protection, no opportunity for justice. When violence strikes, when our lives are endangered, any hope of legal recourse is nearly impossible.
I speak not just for myself, but for a community of resilient survivors who endure unimaginable hardships to simply exist. And yet, the world seems to have forgotten us. Our cries for help have too often fallen on deaf ears.
Let me take this moment, once again, to call for global solidarity. Stand with us the silenced queers of East Africa. Your voices amplify ours. Your support gives us strength. Together, we can keep the fight alive, even when everything seems hopeless.
With hope and resilience,
Ashley 🏳️‍⚧️

A JOURNEY OF SURVIVAL: MY LIFE AS LGBTIQ REFUGEE IN EAST AFRICA🌈
Hello, my name is AshleymilesPhil, 21years old and I’m a queer refugee originally from Uganda. This is my story, but it’s also the story of hundreds of LGBTIQ refugees who have been persecuted, abandoned, and left fighting for their lives simply because of who we are.
Growing up in Uganda, being queer was not just dangerous—it was life-threatening. Uganda’s laws and society are brutally unforgiving to anyone who dares to live openly as LGBTIQ. In constant fear of violence, I had to flee, leaving behind my home, my life, and everything I knew.
My journey first took me to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, a place I hoped would offer refuge. But the reality in Kakuma was anything but safe. LGBTIQ refugees there are regularly targeted for physical violence, harassment, and discrimination. We were left vulnerable, isolated, and without support. The camp, rather than being a sanctuary, became a place of daily survival.
Eventually, I found myself in Gorom camp in South Sudan, hoping for something better, but the challenges only deepened. South Sudan’s laws are even more hostile toward the LGBTIQ community. Starvation, lack of medical care, and persecution are daily realities here. Many of us in the camp are living with HIV/AIDS and can’t access proper medication. The physical and emotional toll is overwhelming, but we continue to fight for our right to live, love, and simply exist.
Our lives in these camps are on the line every single day. We are not just struggling with a lack of food, water, and healthcare; we are fighting for our very existence against systems that dehumanize us.
We need help and support .The world needs to know what we are going through. My fellow LGBTIQ refugees and I are in desperate need of support to survive these unimaginable conditions. We are asking for your kindness, your solidarity, and if possible, your support. Even a small contribution can make a difference in our fight for survival.
Consider donating to our Gofundme fundraiser
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting us in our time of need. Your compassion can bring hope where it’s needed most.
Your support can save lives, provide food for the starving, and offer crucial medical care for those living with HIV/AIDS. We need the world to stand with us against the persecution and injustice we face every day.

PLEASE DON’T IGNORE OUR CRY FOR HELP
Hi friends,
My name is Ashley , and I’m a queer refugee originally from Uganda, now living in a refugee camp . I know this might seem unexpected, but I felt the need to reach out because we are in a situation of desperate urgency.
I represent a group of fellow LGBTIQ refugees here, and we are facing unimaginable hardships. Many of us are starving, without food, water, or proper medical care. Some are living with HIV/AIDS and have no access to life-saving medications. The situation here is truly dire. On top of that, we live in constant fear of persecution under Sudan’s harsh anti-LGBTIQ laws.
I’m embarrassed to ask for help this way, but we are at a breaking point. We urgently need support just to survive. Any donation—no matter how small—could save lives in our community. If you’re unable to give, please don’t ignore this message. Sharing this post could reach someone who can help.
Please consider supporting us or spreading the word. This is our reality, and your help can be the lifeline we so desperately need.
GoFundMe Link:
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this. Your compassion means everything in a time like this.
With gratitude,
Ashley.

🚨BREAKING 🚨
Struggling to Survive LGBTQ+ Refugees in Dire Conditions at the Camp
Life in Gorom camp is marked by extreme hardship. Temperatures often soar above 45°C, and our overcrowded tents offer no relief from the heat. These small, aging shelters, many damaged in recent attacks, provide no space or comfort. We sleep squeezed together on the ground with no bedding, enduring suffocating conditions that make rest impossible.
The lack of resources compounds our struggle. Clean water is scarce, diseases spread rapidly, and the extreme heat takes a toll on our health. We are doing our best to rebuild shelters with the support of recent donations, but the need is overwhelming. The few tents we have left are worn out, forcing us to live in conditions no one should endure.
We ask for your help to provide separate shelter units for lesbians, trans individuals, and gay refugees. These spaces are essential to ensure safety, privacy, and dignity within our community. The donations you provide bring hope and allow us to take small steps toward improving our living conditions, but much more is needed.
Please continue to support us in this fight for survival. With your help, we can secure proper shelters, provide relief from the heat, and rebuild our lives. Together, we can create a safe space where LGBTQ+ refugees can live with dignity and hope for a better future.
