Maternity Leave In Qatar: A Guide For Expecting Mothers
Tumblr media
Maternity leave is a critical period of time that allows new mothers to care for their newborns, recover from childbirth, and bond with their babies. It is a vital entitlement that recognizes the significant physical and emotional changes that women undergo during pregnancy and childbirth. In Qatar, the government has acknowledged the importance of maternity leave by enacting laws that protect the rights of female workers and provide them with the necessary support during this critical period.
As a working woman in Qatar, it’s important to understand your maternity leave rights and entitlements. Qatar’s Labour Law provides comprehensive protections and benefits for female employees during pregnancy and after childbirth. In this blog post, we’ll cover the key aspects of maternity leave regulations in Qatar to help you navigate this important phase of your life and career.
What is Maternity Leave?
Maternity leave is a workplace benefit specifically designed for expecting mothers. It allows them time off to recover from childbirth and bond with their newborns. The specifics of leave duration, eligibility, and pay vary by country.
Maternity Leave in Qatar:
Tumblr media
The Qatari labor law outlines clear provisions for maternity leave in Articles 96, 97, and 98 of Law No. 14 of 2004. Let’s delve into the details:
Maternity Leave Entitlement:
According to Article 96 of Law No. 14 of 2004, a female worker who has completed one year of service with their employer is entitled to 50 days of maternity leave with full remuneration. This leave includes both prenatal and postnatal periods, with a minimum of 35 days postnatal leave. The leave is granted upon presentation of a medical report from a licensed physician stating the expected delivery date.
Complementary Leave:
If the remaining period of leave after delivery is less than 30 days, the female worker may be granted complementary leave from their annual leave. However, if the complementary period exceeds 30 days, it will be considered leave without pay.
Extension of Leave due to Health Reasons:
In cases where the female worker’s health situation following delivery does not allow her to return to work after the end of the maternity leave, she may be granted an extension of up to 60 consecutive or interrupted days without pay. A medical certificate from a licensed physician is required to support this extension.
Entitlement to Other Leaves:
Receiving maternity leave does not prejudice the female worker’s entitlement to other leaves, ensuring she can take additional time off as needed.
Nursing Breaks:
According to Article 97 of Law No. 14 of 2004, nursing female workers are entitled to one hour of nursing breaks daily for a period of one year, starting after the end of the maternity leave. The break period is determined by the female worker and is calculated within the working hours, without any reduction in remuneration.
Protection from Termination:
Article 98 of Law No. 14 of 2004 provides protection for female workers from termination of their employment contract due to marriage or maternity leave. Employers are prohibited from terminating a female worker’s contract during her maternity leave or sending a termination notice that ends during this period.
By understanding your maternity leave rights and planning effectively, you can navigate this important phase with confidence and enjoy a healthy and supported transition into motherhood.

anti-racist reaction is so strongly and utterly universal in brazil (in response to attacks against vini jr in spain) that i reckon racism is going to be eradicated in 50 years or so just like smallpox (it’s a virus of the mind, so to speak). it’s incredible. there’s no one in brazil, not in its whitest regions, where whites number up to 80% of the population, that will say in public that an anti-racist protest is reverse racism (they might claim it’s a waste of time, but not that the initiative is misled. eradicating an opinion in public, making it shameful, is the first step to eradicating it completely) or the sort. just amazing.
#racism#race#the fact it's happening in football stadiums just amazes me#football is one of the most conservative mainstream cultures in brazil#anti-racism is so common sense at this point that it's embedded in all parts of society#like you know people were complaining about germans protesting against homophobia in qatar#i do believe in some degree that what the german team did comes from a certain superiority complex#that their culture is the model culture#but that's not to say that their actions were wrong#and it WOULD be nice if all teams did it and for the right reasons#but there's people defending what happens in qatar and other parts of the middle east with lgbtq populations#this is inconceivable with racism in brazil and parts of europe#the slightest push will get the strongest unified and cohesive reaction from all society#interesting as fuck and amazing#how did brazil do it? you ask#we were the last to abolish slavery#the answer is education and law#a racist criminal imprisoned for the crime of racism which is written in the constitution by the way#cannot bail his way out of jail#and schools are obliged to teach about the horrors of slavery explicitly and african history as well#in 2019 homophobia was made a crime though the racism law by the supreme court of brazil but there's no law for it specifically yet#(they ruled that it's as hideous a crime as racism)#but it's theoretically therefore one of the harshest anti homophobic laws in the world and its consequences are just starting to be seen#i'm excited

Literally grieving because the website that has all the MotoGP videos (the one I have been downloading old races with commentaries in Czech or Russian) change the policy of the site due to the new European DSA legislation or whatever it is and acts like a private Google drive where you can only view your own stuff and cannot publicly share it. Now I'm left stranded and need to start searching all over again 😕

but i take a pretty dim view of the modern conception of citizenship in the first place. anybody should be able to participate politically in the life of the polity they live in and work in and pay taxes in; we tolerate some 200-odd apartheid regimes worldwide because most of them are comparatively soft--it is at least possible under law to be naturalized in the United States, or Mexico, or Canada, or Sweden, and so forth, and many countries also observe various jus soli rules that mean children can become citizens of the place they were born. (the absolute jus soli of the United States is rare, and should be treasured.)
in only a few places like qatar are those regimes not only harder, but taken to an absurd extreme: you can have a country so dependent on "foreigners" that 88% of the country is "foreign"--that it would instantly collapse if everybody there went back to their "home" country!--but which still denies the people its entire economy, its basic infrastructure, is dependent on the right of political participation. there are sections of the economy of some large states dependent on migrant labor (agriculture in many parts of the US is one example), but if every "foreigner" left Qatar or Kuwait or the UAE, it would be a catastrophe on par with the country being nuked. plagues don't kill nine in ten inhabitants of a country, outside science fiction scenarios. this is not citizenship on the modern model; it's not even citizenship on the ancient model, outside of, like, Sparta.

A place can be closed immediately because doesn`t meet requirements according to health and safety.
A company can be fined, and the place can be opened since is going to be confirmed based on a verification that all requirements according to health and safety are being met.
At a moment an environment in a working place is negative for employees.
A new manager can be employed.

Dear friends and kind strangers,I urgently need your support to help me raise funds to evacuate my family out of Gaza. This is the only way to help them survive. It breaks my heart that it has come to this, but this fundraiser is my last window of hope to secure the necessary funds to evacuate them. My father and my two brothers urgently require medical attention, and time is of the essence. I am Eman Abu Hayya. I have survived four Israeli assaults on Gaza before leaving to pursue my studies in Philosophy in Doha, Qatar, back in 2017. While I reside in Qatar, my entire family remains in the Gaza Strip, trapped amidst the cruel and harrowing reality of ongoing genocide. My aim is to facilitate the evacuation of my loved ones from Gaza to ensure they receive the critical medical care they urgently need and to shield them from the constant threat of Israeli bombings and the dire scarcity of clean water, food, and healthcare. My family consists of 11 members: my mother Najat (49), my father Akram (60), three brothers Ahmed, Yahya and Zakaria (30, 27, and 22), one sister Shaima (24), two sisters-in-law Wafa and Hana (25 and 24), and three young nieces and nephews Najat, Hayat and Gaith (aged 1, 2, and 5). They deserve the chance to live full lives, and I cannot bear the thought of losing any of them. My two little nieces’ names mean Life and Survival (Hayat and Najat), respectively. Let’s help make these two names a living reality through your kind donations.
Please help Eman. Donations have slowed down but my family's situation remains dire. Her family's house was destroyed. One of her brothers sustained a serious injury during the bombing which requires surgery while another has a serious medical conditions requiring immediate medical intervention. On top of all of that her father has diabetes. Not to mention the two children above.
Please please donate. Share if you can't
