The FreeCodeCamp Study Challenge!
I literally just completed this challenge and I thought why not share the challenge on here for other people to take part in if they wanted to!
FreeCodeCamp is an open-source platform that offers various coding courses and certifications for web developers. The goal of this challenge is to choose one of the available courses on the FreeCodeCamp platform, complete the course, and earn the certificate at the end.
The challenge is self-paced, so the duration is entirely up to you. The challenge is there to motivate people into coding and/or continue their coding studies! Especially people in the Codeblr community!
FreeCodeCamp [LINK] offers the following courses:
(NEW) Responsive Web Design Certification (I've done this one)
JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures Certification (I am going to do this one next)
Front End Libraries Certification
Data Visualization Certification
APIs and Microservices Certification
Quality Assurance Certification
Scientific Computing with Python Certification
Data Analysis with Python Certification
Information Security Certification
Machine Learning with Python Certification
Each course is broken down into multiple sections, and completing all the sections in a course will earn you a certification for that course.
To start the FreeCodeCamp Challenge, follow the steps below:
Choose a course on the FreeCodeCamp platform that you would like to complete.
Complete the course and earn the certificate.
Post about your progress every day that you study using the #freecodecampchallenge hashtag. You can post about what you have done towards the challenge, what you have learned, and any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.
The FreeCodeCamp Challenge is an excellent opportunity to improve your coding skills and earn a valuable certification!!!! Even add that to your resume/CV! I completed this challenge and you can see me posting about it - LINK.
Remember to post about your progress using the #freecodecampchallenge hashtag to track your progress and connect with other participants AND you don't have to study straight days, meaning you can take days off whenever you feel like it!
Good luck!

Answer any 3 character asks you want pookie
thank you for writing me this blank check. sorry it took so long to answer i was thinking and considering
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character? - January
Ok so I said here that I think River can write totally incomprehensible but really fast and efficient Fortran. The corollary to that is that January is the only person who can read their code. The Songshu engineers hate him. He doesn't even know how to program; he took one class in high school about the most natural language-esque future python equivalent ever.
It eventually comes out that he's not actually reading the code, he's asking himself 'how would River solve this problem?' and the answer is always batshit and he always guesses it with unerring 100% accuracy. hashtag homophrosyne moment. The engineers aren't sure if that's better or worse
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter? - January again
MAX!
They're narrative foils—both in arranged marriages, but with wildly different backgrounds and relationships to their partners. They both care about AND UNDERSTAND River, but while River understands January back, no one in the entire canon seems close enough to understand Max. Aubrey occasionally sort of barely manages it. I think Max deserves to be seen properly and January, with his skill at seeing people properly, could be the one to do it. I mean. If they weren't dead. In an AU or something. You get it
27. FREEBIE QUESTION!!
giving myself permission to write another river gale essay. it's about the contrast between knowledge and ignorance that makes them fascinating as a character
So, I think the big question when you think about River as a character is, how can they be so kind and courteous as a person and still make policies that are so obviously cruel?
And that's also one of the big themes of The Mars House, that people are never just one thing. Contradictions are at the heart of most of Pulley's characters—the most obvious other example is Kite, who is good with children and also yeets a child off the boat.
Here's where the book articulates it. Gale's a kind person, a person that cares about people, and... they're doing things that obviously hurt the most vulnerable people in their society. There's a couple different answers to "why are they like this," and all of them touch on character contrasts—they're super empathetic when faced with an individual person, no matter who that person is, but when faced with an abstract group of people, they're much less so—but what I want to talk about has to do with knowledge and information.
Being smart doesn't make you immune to being wrong. River is wrong several times throughout the book, and missing information even more. They're wrong about the point about femicide they make in the debate, they're (heavily implied to be) wrong about whether the new ships have soldiers, and they genuinely don't know Earthstrongers are paid in electricity before January tells them.
River comes off as very worldly and sophisticated, partially because of the languages thing and partly because they are, but they're also ridiculously sheltered. January seems to be the only Earthstronger person they know personally early in the book. There's so much they don't know about how poor people live on Mars. January says they should know better, especially since they have so much power, and he's right.
You can kind of see how they got that way, though, considering that the upper class on Mars is literally, textually living in a different reality from everyone else, because of the augmented reality filter setup. The plot of the book is that someone turns invisible to the upper class due to their privilege (fancy brain technology). It's kind of on the nose?
But that's one of the most interesting contrasting parts of their character! They're both extremely learned, extremely clever, and extremely ignorant.
Anyway, the point is that January fixes this. The fact that they know each other is good for both of them! January is actually in a parallel situation; early in the book, he notes that he doesn't personally know anyone Natural, just naturalised.
Gale is his way back! And at the same time, January is the perspective they need to fix their policies. They're foils! But that's a whole other essay.
thank you for the ask :DD
#thank you for coming to my ted talk#tmh is a classic indulgent romantic fantasy from january's perspective#(scary rich person marries you then falls for you and you make them stop it with the evil politics)#but honestly? it also is one from gale's#(you marry a person who comes to see you and balance out all your negative qualities and love you for exactly who you are)#can you tell this meta used to be twice as long and i cut half of it. yeah
