Pretty quiet on the IDF bombing international aid trucks once, twice, then three times to ensure they got them all 🙃
“This is not a genocide” how is that possible people are literally being starved to death. By Israel. For not allowing food in. Carpet bombing of cities. Saying “You can go to this one safe place” and then bombing that too. The death toll ALONE, of *children*, has far outstripped the deaths Hamas brought (which were also horrific!). The one-sided use and abuse of structural power over things like water, food, egress to safety and freedom of movement, all recognized as human rights.
Recognizing these things is not anti-semitic! If this were happening anywhere else in the world, perpetrated by another country, you would rightly find it horrific. A history of crimes against a people does not give them a pass to perpetrate the same, and saying so is not hatred, but a defense of fellow humankind.
This may come as shocking news, but sometimes I'm not on tumblr every day!
I was not quiet on the WCK bombings, I have other social media accounts and posted about it there.
I've also reblogged posts here before about how the IDF should be doing better if they want to proclaim themselves the most moral army in the world and that there are dangerous trends rising in a very American 'shoot first, ask questions later' way.
(This doesn't diminish the fact that Israel is still managing to do more than most armies would in a similar situation, nor does it fail to account for the insane double standards against it)
You're right! Recognizing Israel's fuck-ups isn't antisemetic! The targeted attacks were despicable and senior officials were rightfully dismissed and Israel needs to do things better. It's GOOD that the US is taking a harder stand and helped force Israel to open up more border crossings for aide.
But please PLEASE keep in mind that Hamas is still stealing the aid from civilians, that Hamas is beating and shooting people who are trying to get that food, that food is being illegally resold in markets for ridiculous profits, and that letting in aid doesn't solve the distribution problem. Those are all factors out of Israel's control, regardless of how much aid goes in (and more should go in, regardless of the fact that Hamas will undoubtedly still get most of it)

All the mlb asks on your blog made me search up some fics. But in the tags n storylines (salt and someone both helping Mari and calling her out on her bull) the fics usually have Felix (PV version on the current one) instead of Adrian as the other main character and I keep wanting to sigh in understanding
Yeah Felix is a pretty natural character to come in as Marinette's ally against Lila and the class turned against her.
Up until it was leaked/his intro ep, Astruc long made it clear his dislike of Felix, and insisting that Felix was never coming back, so people needed to stop asking him about Felix. Under that belief, between fandom intrigue with him and him set up as a good antagonist if not villain (as we don't have a mean boy in the cast), Felix became more the fandom's character as Astruc abandoned him.
And given we had very limited info on him aside from concept art, he was crafted to our needs with light guidelines to work off of. And with many agreeing that he's a "take no bs" sort, and many felt upset by Adrien and his response to Lila turning the class against Marinette, and not having her back as much as promised, it's easy to see why that would lead to neutral Felix coming in, able to see the bull, Marinette's the only one to see the bull, leading to an alliance between the two.
Additionally, as Felix is naturally set up as a mean character, he is the catharsis for creatives to let out their frustrations and call out the bs of the classmates, Marinette's "friends" who easily chose Lila over her. I don't think it'd be a stretch for Marinette to get upset and hurt by her friends, but the show doesn't ever let her get mad at her friends, even when they wronged or hurt her, she's more forgiving and tolerable. So Felix can naturally come in to do what Marinette cannot by canon's standards.
Lastly, he's a character who's not a stretch to be her close friend and darkwhite knight in this situation. In early development, they do have history of being a close pair, he was the Chat Noir prior to Adrien, and he was meant to become Marinette's close ally and romantic partner. And with Adrien in the know about Lila, doing nothing to the bare minimum to help Marinette, and having a growing list of frustrations prior; Adrien has not set himself up as an actual ally to help Marinette.
So those are the main reasons on why it's Felix over Adrien in the Lila-class salt fics. There's a lot of aspects to him that just make him an easy inclusion, and Adrien just really upset people.

Halloween costume. Gimme gimme :3
This ask seemed really open for interpretation, was it asking about doodles of my sona in her costume?
for the OC/ Fan characters I've got?
or for ideas of Halloween costumes for your sona?
If you were asking about "IRL" me, I forgot to make a costume. So I'm probably going to wear my Moogle (Final Fantasy) Kigurumi onesie and leave it at that. Sorry for the confusion on my end!

Undertale did exactly that - I'm pretty sure theyre made by the same creator, Toby Fox.
Undertale, among many, many other things, is specifically designed to challenge modern AAA game structure and break away from the norm of video games. Its not just that you can befriend your enemies and you get punished for fighting; each different monster has unique, endearing possibilities for friendship. You jiggle and dance with slimes, there a frost-bird that tells terrible jokes, one monster desperately wants compliments on their hat. Each one is utterly unique.
There are three unique paths. Pacifist means you dont kill anyone. Neutral is the standard "kill when you have to/im used to video games where you kill every monster you encounter". Then there's Genocide.
There is a unique route where players methodically and maliciously clear every region of every living soul.
All this to say - in an age where most games allow you to murder monsters, enemies, or people for rewards, Undertale (and assumedly Deltarune) treats such behavior with humanity and empathy and the correct amount of abject horror that such actions should warrant.
okok yeah that definitely aligns with what i know/remember of undertale, and i do know toby fox made both games
the weird thing for me is that i’m not really familiar with the norms undertale was subverting
all the characters being unique and possible to either fight OR befriend resulting in different consequences seems completely reasonable from my perspective, i never had a reason to expect anything else
#splashasks#itsthenars#i will say the punchy eloquence of the way you phrased all this does kind of make me nervous#that i’ve stumbled into an argument that’s gone places i was not accounting for and don’t have the context to engage with properly#not to discount the possibility that you’re just a good writer ofc#but if people start having arguments with each other in my inbox i’m not answering any more asks everyone got that

You can fight anyone no consequences, who any why?
Aw, man, that's a heck of a list. I think, for practical purposes, I would save my Single Fight for someone who deserves it in the moment. A lifted truck with LED high beams tailgating me trying to do 70 in a 45 zone that allows passing and they simply Will Not Pass, for example. Some self-important dickhead at the checkout who thinks they can cut the line and also buy a whole massive cart of stuff at the 10 item limit line. The next person I see berate waitstaff or a cashier or barista or other retail worker. So on and so forth.

@rustedclaws asked; “Just keep your mouth shut for one second. Just one.”
argumentative, confrontational dialogue prompts
"Says the one charging in blindly." The request was perfectly clear, the sort that he'd usually heed without the need for debate. Only, this time, he had failed to resist the urge to pass comment, jabbing his pointer finger in the hirsute mutant's direction as he carried on speaking without pause.
"Do you even know what you're doing? Or is your solution for every problem to just try slashing at it?"

HELLO VOIIIIIIDMBBD
what is your favorite part about writing?!?!?!???!?!? rarararawr
OH this is a good one.
I think in relation to the actual writing aspect of my work (because I also worldbuild and do character exploration a LOT) my favorite part is making a fun narrator. I think a silly narrator is my favorite part of a story, whether it's through hearing a character's unique inner voice or an omnipotent narrator giving their opinion on something.
I think Neil Gaiman's Good Omens is a good example of this kind of fun narrator, because it sort of looks the reader in the face and goes "here's a goofy tangent or footnote to enhance this part of the narrative!" And my neurodivergent brain just devours that kind of thing.
So yeah, writing a fun narrator is my favorite part of writing!
#voided answers#voided 💬#writing#there are other things I love about writing too#like getting to exactly describe a scene as I see it in my brain#or writing punchy dialogue between two characters who hate each other#or the worldbuilding#writing is a lot of fun . i am going to get myself to do it more

....I don't know why I looked in the notes of that poll, it's just people having appallingly dismissive attitudes toward short pieces of writing all the way way down.
#(I mean aside from all the people just repeating the Correct answer but that's not novel either)#idk man. I've just been digging around back in ye olde 2010s Silm fic the past couple days and#there was a real art to short pieces in that particular era#gut-punchy as fuck. generally in the 1-2k range#if not less#and also mmm.... re: what a ''story'' is. there doesn't need to be a dramatic plot event to have a narrative#sometimes the character mood; the sense of place; etc Is what shifts or comes together like drawing the strings together on a bag#idk if you don't see the point of a craft exercise like trying to fit a piece in specific small wordcount...... Punches, I know this is completely out of the blue, but I know you're a lowercase "l" librarian and an uppercase "A" Archivist so I wanted to toss a question your way.
I had a conversation with someone who claimed that the Oxford Dictionary was, essentially, not a good resource for accurately defining current slang. This came up because I Google'd the definition of a term, the result of which this person didn't find accurate. I acquiesced that maybe it wasn't perfect since language can and does move faster than documentation, but that it was still completely fair to cite. This person utterly snubbed such reasoning, saying to cite Urban Dictionary instead.
I know Urban Dictionary just fine, and agree it's a decent resource for quickly emerging and very new slang, but the complete toss out the window of Oxford really threw me for a loop. Any thoughts what resources might be best in this day and age for defining words - classic dictionary or crowd sourced? Also, when I say "cite" I'm not talking about any kind of academic paperwork, I mean in a typical "oh hey what does that word mean again?" kind of way.
Also I promise I'm not some word snob, I've just never heard anyone discard the dictionary so casually and confidently before. Oxford or otherwise.
Totally fine to answer publicly or privately btw
Oh man this is an excellent question and such a fun one to get!
You're correct in identifying me as lowercase 'l' librarian, so please take my response with a book of salt.
However! As an Archivist, I can speak to the topic at hand and say you're correct in that language evolves and changes faster than documentation. There's a concept in archives I always blank on (something doctrine? literary merit?) which basically proposes that certain terms have to come from the outside organically at which point the Library of Congress documents the change with an official subject category. Ground-up instead of top-down.
In many ways this strikes me as a similar situation with slang terms. There's no way the OED can keep up, the way the system works and is built just doesn't account for that. There are rules about how/when a word can be officially added and there are good reasons for that. That said, other resources have popped up, namely Urban Dictionary and others. But also Urban Dictionary isn't always the most reliable having multiple definitions that sometimes counter each other and don't necessarily have reliable sources given its crowdsourced nature.
Often I've found Merriam-Webster online to have some slang terms. It seems like a good middle ground between the the OED and UD. Tossing out the OED entirely seems silly to me, especially since language can be very cyclical and often the etymology of a word can come into contemporary play and the OED is very good at word history. ('Got the morbs' for example, becoming popular again ironically (not ironically?) in the post-everything era.)
As with most things, having multiple sources is usually a good idea anyway so tell your friend to get off their high-brow (low-brow?) horse and that the OED is still perfectly fine to reference, even for slang.

With the 3 new winners of the last 3 zodiac polls, how do you imagine the relationships between them and the other heroes, their powers, and their kwamis?
At first, Chloe and Kaalki were an immediate click, and then just as quickly turned into enemies as Kaalki learned that Chloe was quite the villain instead of hero. Chloe (potentially) was the last to appear as a hero as Kaalki refused to share anything with her power wise until she adjusted herself and made an oath to use her power for good. Though, it being Chloe, she half-assed it, and now Kaalki is going to kick her into shape.
Chloe loves Voyage once Kaalki shares it with her. She likes to sneer at her driver that she doesn't need him anymore. Brought the man to tears. Then Kaalki put a one day limit on it's use and now it's the worst thing ever. She either uses it once to get what she wants and go where she pleases, or she uses it once as a hero, and doesn't get the chance to really shine, and it's so unfair!
Only relation Chloe has with the other heroes is that she's kinda enemies with them. She does not work with them at all. Probably starts the most fights with Senushi and Oudragon and immediate regrets it.
Xuppu is kinda the chaos that Adrien wanted. Xuppu is all about do what you want! Go where you please! Find your troop! Xuppu can also quickly pick up that Adrien the "perfect son" really has an inner monkey that's begging to be let out and goof around, so through Xuppu clowning around with Adrien, that inner playfulness eases out, which has Adrien better connecting with others, finding his "troop" as Xuppu calls it. Honestly, only issue is Xuppu's short temper, which can be explosive and fall into childish jeers and jabs and Adrien, who has never been mocked before in his life, has no idea how to deal with it.
Adrien loves Roleplay, being able to shapeshift into any animal, there's a unique freedom and power there in having that ability. He can transform into a bird, not be allergic to feathers, and can simply fly where he wants. He can become a dog and get pets and instant friends. He can hide from his father in plain sight. He can have fun with it. He can battle as he wants. There's just a lot of freedom to it. Though, he could do without adopting the animal quirks. He got to learn the hard way to not become a snake in winter. Balls are too enticing as a dog. And he got to learn the hard way that birds do not see glass, but thankfully no one knew he was that pigeon trying to fly into the school...
Adrien does what he can to work off all of his teammates. Not everyone is up to work with him, but some do have requests/orders on what animal they need. Multimouse and Python often direct him to either be a distraction or for doing a stealthy approach. Senushi usually likes riding a horse into battle. Overall, Adrien's pretty flexible and pretty well liked.
Nathaniel and Ziggy are... amiable, enough. Ziggy is very sweet and encouraging and loves engage in Nathaniel's creativity and help him brainstorm. She meets that fine line of offering the needed advise/inspiration, but not taking over his projects. She comes in with unique insight that Nathaniel does appreciate. What he doesn't appreciate is Ziggy's habit of eating his work (which is her way of storing it for later), and her being a morning kwami when he is not a morning person. He always wakes to a good morning headbutt. Bustier is actually delighted that Nathaniel is now coming to school on time, but it's not a happiness that Nathaniel shares...
Artifice Nathaniel really likes as a power. There's nothing cooler than whatever he paints "comes to life", essentially making physical illusions. By how Nathaniel is, with this power, he's the sort of elusive trickster of the team.
Speaking of which, if he can help it, Nathaniel does not work with the team. Most give him orders and cramp his style, and he finds their ideas basic and dull. If possible, they will not see him and he won't have to talk or work with them. He probably has the most complicated relationship with Multimouse. He'll admit that she does sometimes have really good ideas, but she'll also come in with her own vision of how to handle things, which Nathaniel is not appreciative of. She can go find her own magic brush and paint her own illusions. Nathaniel rather handle things his way.

I really shouldn’t be dropping this bomb here and I should be doing a post about it, but fuck it
Inocy are capable of killing people, don’t let them fool you, they’re strong and the moment you give them a weapon you should run, specially if they’re piss
But that’s talking about now, but as a child? During that time Inocy were willing to kill their granduncle (Doom Guy) just because they didn’t know how manage their rage after found out who is this guy and what he do? Oh absolutely
I will explain more about it, because boy do I already have the story in mind
👀👀
Inocy lore, in my askbox? LET'S GOOOO
The first thing I thought of was Punchy instantly trying to plan with Inocy to "get revenge" on Uncle/Granduncle DoomGuy for Shroomy which would go as well as expected. (OG MEME used for the duo images below here.)
The second thing that came to mind is that Shroomy is basically rallying up an army to kill Uncle Doomguy. Which led to this image-

He's a sweetheart he really is, he just doesn't understand why people keep entering his home, hence him punching them and hence the name Punchy.
