grayson went downstairs for a late-night bowl of cereal & heard water splashing in the basement (which has been flooding with distressing frequency). they looked and spotted the new water heater's condensation pump IN THE ACT of gushing gallons and gallons of water all over the floor!!

they called for me, i ran downstairs in my underwear (just having showered like ten minutes earlier). i tbh sort of wrench the pump into a 5-gal tub (which it RAPIDLY starts filling) to give us time to diagnose the problem. this is not helped by there being like 4 tubes/pipes plumbed into/out of this thing.

i try to pick it up to get a better look at what it's doing and it feels like it buzzes weirdly on my fingers or maybe hand? so i drop it back in the tub (mostly submerged) and try again. same thing. grayson tries it, same thing. i'm like oh shit where did those LOOSE WIRES ON THE PUMP COME FROM OH MY GOD WE'RE STANDING IN AN INCH OF WATER AND I THINK WE JUST GOT SHOCKED. we both get the hell out of the water, i shut off the power to the water heater & go back to try again (grayson has heart disease! do not want them taking any risks w/ electricity!), get zapped AGAIN. i realize the pump is plugged into an outlet on a different circuit and unplug it (by the cord) (in hindsight should've turned off the whole circuit).

the pump stops pumping & i can move it to a new bucket (good! the old one is now overflowing) but it is still gushing water. grayson realizes our Mysterious Whole-House Filter Of Unknown Custom Design is in the middle of its flush cycle so we shut it off. and the water stops. we turn the spigots to bypass the filter so it won't do that again, hopefully.

turns out when the water heater installers put the condenser pump in, they (for some reason) routed the filter flush outflow pipe down through it, then out to the main outflow pipe using the condenser pump. but the flush cycle has such high flow rate that it absolutely overwhelmed the tiny little condenser pump and just poured out of every opening in it. so. i'm annoyed. this didn't need to happen.

i never pay for adderall, i got an inhaler hookup that probably has me set all year, i never pay for [redacted], i don’t have to pay for weed but about once a year i do to be nice, i paid a little for [redacted] but that’s because i’m invested in my friendship with the redacted guy and that’s the only reason i got the redacted at all i just like to drop by, i’ve never been asked to pay for [redacted] but i usually ask someone to chip in on my behalf, i exchange money for xanax but it’s really actually mutual mutual aid, got gifted some klonopin in an emergency (emergency is ongoing) and all of this i feel so genuinely like i earned by building the world i’ve built. but the cosmic price is i can’t get literally any prescriptions filled by my actual doctor or pharmacist for no reason

For context, my (cursed) house sits below the street. It relies on a sump pump to evacuate waste water. I had it installed seven years ago because when I bought the house, the water went directly into the river which is a nono. It's since been my greatest fear that it might one day break.

Well, it happened. Which I only realized when my shower started flooding with dirty backwater from the basin three days ago.

(In hindsight, there were signs--the pump had been much louder than usual for days--that I ignored, because I am an anxious person by nature and tend to overreact)

Anyway: shock and horror, and then panic because it's still summer and most plumbers are on vacation and those that are available won't put their hands in the basin to access the sump pump and can't be bothered pumping the water out. They advised using a wastewater collecting service, which announced a 250 euros fee for that alone + the need to block 3 parking spaces in the constantly packed street for their hugeass truck.

Well, will you believe that my neighbor, whom I asked for simple advice because she's very handy, just dropped by with a bucket? And proceeded to help me haul the dirty dirty water up the stairs of the front yard all the way to the sewer manhole in the street? No hesitation--if anything, she was the one driving the whole thing--just set to the task, and even kept doing it while I bleached my shower clean.

Anyway, you know that moment where you realize there are people around you that you can count on? That will just help with no expectation of anything? The sheer gratitude you feel from it? Well, that.

hey remember when last year we were like oughhhhh south florida THRIVING we got heat and cats in finals and dolphins and fish miraculously made it to postseason!!!! and also we got messi who led up to our first league cup!!!! AND WE HOSTED THE INSANE WBC A N D SERIE DEL CARRIBE. and now we get to host 2 finals [scf and copa america] in stadiums that are 27 minutes from each other... insanity i love this place
