Digging deep? Make sure safety runs deeper.
When it comes to excavation work, safety must always be the top priority. Every dig, no matter the size, carries risks, and it’s crucial that we take the right steps to protect ourselves, our coworkers, and the environment. By staying alert, following proper procedures, and being aware of potential hazards, we can prevent accidents and create a safer working environment for everyone on site. Whether it’s understanding the ground conditions, managing equipment, or simply looking out for one another—safety is something we all play a part in. At the end of the day, in excavation, it’s not just what you’re digging into that matters—it’s how safely you do

Toxic social media can be overwhelming and damaging. It often takes a toll on our mental and physical health directly from the toxic content that we are exposed to. From cyberbullying to trolls and body-shaming, it seems like our newsfeeds are flooded with negativity. It's enough to make us all want to take a break from social media, yet it's that same content that keeps us all coming back. Help us raise awareness with the platform owners! Visit www.shieldryx.com, we have the solution. #ProtectEachOther #HealthFirst #Shieldryx

PSA TO ALL WOMEN!!!! Wow I am disgusted and disturbed. I came across a tik tok of a woman talking about a website where people post anonymous images. They are using this side to catalog explicit pictures of women by state, county, college, high school, job, NAME. I went on and was quickly able to find my hometown and see people asking for pictures of girls I knew in high school. I’ve seen people asking for specific women by first AND last name and others answering with an onslaught of photos, then asking where they work now, where they live, etc. I’ve seen people rip a women’s innocent selfie from IG and post it, asking for her photos. I am sad beyond belief reading the things said, the wording, the phrases they use, talking about human beings like they are baseballs cards to trade or movies to comment on. I am sad. If anyone would like to know this website to check for their own pictures please let me know.

COVID-19
The coronavirus is all anyone is talking about. Obviously. Because it has changed billions of lives in an instant. It’s even worse being a former nurse, because pretty much everyone on my Facebook is a healthcare professional in some form. I’m seeing the direct effect of the supply shortage, not only on Facebook, but in my own nursing facility as well. We are running out of gloves. Quickly.
As someone with a chronic illness, I’m constantly hearing, “You’re a high risk patient because of your condition, you shouldn’t be working.” Well, first of all, if anyone actually took a second to look into EDS, they’d learn that EDS alone is not a valid risk factor for serious illness related to COVID. It is not an autoimmune disorder, it does not compromise my immune system. By itself. My comorbidities, sure, those can increase my risk for sure. But I work in health care, I’ve almost always worked in health care. I’m more concerned about what I’m potentially unknowingly bringing into my workplace than I am about getting sick. But it’s amazing how many people suddenly become experts on chronic illness when things like this happen.
AND YET. People are still not fucking doing what they’re supposed to be doing. If everyone listened, we probably could’ve curbed this by now or at least “flattened the curve” a little bit. But no, everyone is using their newfound time off to have what they think is an extended vacation, and the governor of Massachusetts refuses to issue an official shelter-in-place because he doesn’t believe it’s constitutional to “force people to stay indoors.” NO. Force people to stay indoors! What’s not constitutional is allowing potentially infected people to go out and infect more people. The number is increasing everywhere, but especially here in Mass. Just in my hometown the numbers are increasing. Because people are blatantly ignoring the fact that the beaches and the parks and the trails are all closed off (meaning the lots are closed/roped off), and they’re just parking elsewhere and walking. STOP. People who are doing this are actively killing the people that are compromised. People are going out about their daily lives, and then interacting with their elderly parents/grandparents, their compromised friends. People are dying.
Not to mention all the people who hoarded medical supplies at the beginning of this, and don’t even know how to use it. The people who wear gloves in the grocery store, and proceed to touch EVERYTHING. It’s no different than not wearing gloves. Just don’t wear gloves and wash your hands when you get home. That’s what I do. Or the people who have the N95 or the respirator masks, wear them in stores, and then fucking toss them out after. There are nurses and doctors and respiratory therapists in hospitals that are sick and dying because they are not properly equipped. There are nurses in New York wearing TRASH BAGS because they do not have any more precaution gowns to protect themselves. Doctors are sleeping in their garages in their cars because they don’t want to bring anything home. Nurses are stripping down on their goddamn porch because they don’t want to track anything in. And yet there are these people who are hoarding and improperly using PPE. And these people are the exact reason why facilities can’t get the equipment they need.
The government completely fucked over everyone. I’m not singling out Trump either. First of all, they’ve known about this for a while, and waited to announce it to the public (not that I blame them, we see what happened there). THEN, they inadvertently killed a bunch of Gen Zers and millennials, by telling them that basically they weren’t going to get sick because they weren’t at risk. What they REALLY should’ve said was, “You’re not at high risk of dying from this illness, but you are still at risk of getting sick if you participate in risky behaviors.” No one is immune to microbes, y’all. And look at all those college kids that went on spring break, after being told NOT TO, and now pretty much all of them tested positive for COVID. Good job. But the real kicker is Trump’s latest press conference, where he accused health care workers of stealing and selling supplies. Because they suddenly went from “10-20,000 to 300,000.” Why is that Trump? Because they went from only needing SOME precaution gear for a select few people, to needing precaution gear for an entire WARD or more of infected patients. Patients who have this illness for 2+ weeks. I know a nurse in NY, she’s assigned a single mask to protect her and she’s to reuse it each shift. DPH doesn’t even know what to do anymore. They’re essentially turning a blind eye to all the things that health care workers are doing right now, because it’s every man for themselves and we do what we have to do.
I just picked up a wonderful donation of 25 masks for my facility. Cloth masks that people made, and are continuing to make, out of the goodness of their hearts. I had a meeting at work this morning where the director of nursing told us that we were running out of gloves. We have 2 boxes of large gloves now. That’s it. I had a small donation of 2 boxes of extra small gloves, which isn’t much but it might help some people. Restaurants, nail salons, schools, etc. are all donating their supplies. But they shouldn’t have to! The government needs to supply our hard working health care professionals with these things. They are literally risking their lives every single day to save the lives of others.
We are living in a real pandemic. And I fear that if this doesn’t finally peak and level out soon, we will be facing some real, terrifying problems. Massive economic collapse, poor education, homelessness, or just straight up war. Anarchy most likely, with a huge attack on the government. Everyone has their conspiracy theories regarding COVID, but I think the reality is that we never know everything the government is telling us, and they wait until it’s too late to finally say anything. In this case, China waited too long to tell anybody what was going on until people were already infected.
This is my spoonie rant regarding COVID. I’m angry. I’m angry for my elderly residents, my immunocompromised boyfriend and friends, I’m angry for my fellow health care professionals (especially the ones on the front lines taking the brunt of the issues). This whole thing isn’t fair. For anyone. And I think a lot more people are gonna have to die before the government finally sees the real problem.
