Drabble prompt: page 1: #37 = “is that my shirt?”

Warnings? Brief mentions of sea sickness, but nothing graphic! And a mention of a thunderstorm at sea.

Contains a mention of Beidou, and Kaedehara Kazuha of course!

Sailing at sea can be fun and calming. The serenity of the blue sky, sounds of the waves and seagulls puts it all together to make an ideal calm day.

Apart from when the sky isn’t blue, no sounds of seagulls, just the loud sounds of waves crashing against each other and the Crux.

As the ship and everyone aboard it in the midst of one of the worst storms anyone has seen or experienced.

Even Captain Beidou was lost for words. But she was the ships Captain, orders from her came left, right and centre of what felt like the same time to you.

You were currently in your small cabin that you and your beloved, Kazuha, reside in when at sea. You were instructed to stay put as you had no experience in handling a ships equipment, and no one wanted you to slip overboard. As no one, no one, wants to hear the two dreaded words.

Thankfully that didn’t happen.

But you were in your cabin alone as Kazuha had to help on deck as it was an All Hands On Deck situation. And judging by the sounds that you could hear on said deck, shouts of commands, shouts of one deckhand to another and the yells of people being hit by water, it didn’t sound like fun.

You were thankful you were not the one to be seasick, with the amount of times you’ve been out at sea, you’ve learnt to live with the sudden movements.

And currently, you were thankful that you were in the warmth that is your blanket. But you often thought of how cold Kazuha must feel.

So in preparation of him coming back to you, and having to change clothes, because no one wants to stay in cold wet clothes all day, what’s better than normal dry clothes?

Warm ones.

So in order to warm up a shirt of his for him to come back, you decided to put it over yours, it makes you warmer, and it warm. So it’s a win, win situation.

Time passed. Of what felt like an eternity for everyone.

The seas were eventually calm. Everything was quiet. No seagulls. No chatter from above deck, just the occasional remark or question being asked.

It was eerie.

But everyone was glad that the storm was now over.

But they couldn’t relax yet as clean up was due, things had been thrown around deck, on the other side of the ship or in the sea, lost.

Still, two of the most dreaded words were never spoken. So that’s good.

Finally relaxed by the quietness outside and natural gentle swaying of the boat, you were snapped out of your daydream when the cabin door opened.

To reveal a very soggy wanderer. He looked cold. His hair lost its airy-ness as the water weighed it down. He looked tired and his wits were a little everywhere then where they should be.

But upon laying his eyes on you, he noticed something,

“Would you have done that, Carlos?”

Since the beginning of 2025, the races have been marked by a hint of drama. Ink flows between each circuit, like a rain that never ends. They have forgotten what F1 was at one time and now everything takes on an accent of drama. A comment on Lance Stroll becomes a state affair, bringing back accusations of nepotism, Logan’s astonishing results in IndyCar have launched a wave of hatred on the entire Williams team, the turmoil of Red Bull becomes an argument to assail Max with questions while waiting for him to crack (the Mad Maxnarrative seem to have run out of steam).

The real crux of all this rain, of all this ink, is the tense relations between two pairs of teammates: Charles & Lewis and Lando & Oscar.

The prospect of having two number 1 drivers makes the garages tense as the races become tighter and the team orders disputed.

Lando doesn’t give up a position after an undercut. Oscar nearly sends Lando into the barriers after a risky move. Lewis implies that Ferrari favours Charles and Charles says it might be time for Lewis to retire and take Fernando with him.

Carlos finds himself in the middle of the rain and storm. While his relationship with Oscar is a closely guarded secret to the media, the public sees them as good friends. Lando is his best friend on the grid. Charles his former teammate. They ask him for his opinion at every race.

They just don't know how much Carlos loves Oscar and how he swears to be on his side.

“What would I have done?”

“Refused the swap.”

He wishes he still have the opportunity to say "Fuck off" to Ferrari on team radio, when they messed up his strategy, when they leave him drive alone to focus on Charles like in 2023 in Abu Dhabi.

He let Oscar says "Fuck Off", he knows how he feels, he won't denied his right. Fuck off Zak. Fuck off the strategy. Fuck off McLaren. He's kind, too kind sometimes, but Oscar is everything except an idiot.

Once again, McLaren’s strategies have driven a wedge between its drivers. Oscar and Lando’s already strained relationship is hanging by a thread; it’s a wonder they still speak cordially to each other. He don't think Oscar could say "fuck off" to Lando. They are on a same boat and if it sinks Oscar would still save Lando. He cares too much about their friendship, no matter how difficult it is at the moment.

Carlos hates them, McLaren and the media, for that. They were, are, good friends and now they are haunted by the narrative of Prost and Senna. The clash of the McLaren titans all over again.

“I would have done it", Carlos says. "I would have refuse."

Lando will hate him a little, he don't care, Carlos is right.

Carlos has become more selfish and quicker to defend Oscar, he hates seeing his hurt expression when team strategies are failing him… again.

“Oscar was way ahead, with better tires, he should have gone after Lewis. Lando wouldn’t have succeeded and if he had, the end of the race would have been extremely difficult for him. Oscar did it, he succeeded, he managed those tires better, that’s why he won, he was more strategic. He did well.”

I'm proud of him. As always.

Oscar always does well, but Carlos’ opinion has become biased, he’s just lucky it’s always backed up by facts. Oscar is too good of a driver to be given anything other than his future world championship title.

“Thank you, Carlos.”

When he leaves the interview, he sees Oscar's disappointment in his eyes, as if each of his first places, as if each of his points became a new knife. Carlos hates that, and he will protect Oscar from them, because he loves him.

He puts a hand on his back when he passes by him: I'm here, it'll be fine.

Kazuha stared off at the sea, lost in thought. "Kazuha!" The familiar, booming voice, sounded behind him, causing him to jump and almost fall of the bow of the Alcor.

He turned to face her. "Captain Beidou." She crossed her arms. "This is the third time today I had to scream in your ear to get your attention. What's up?"

Kazuha sighed. "My apologies, Beidou, I'm just... thinking." She smiled at him, concerned. "Well, whatever it is, you know you can talk about anything with me, right?" He nodded. "Thank you, Beidou"

She pat his back. "Well, Wei Yin needs you on deck for something." Kazuha nodded. "I'll be right there." She smiled and walked off. Kazuha took one last look at the horizon.

Later that night, the members of the Crux rejoiced. They broke out their bottles and Beidou made a toast. "Have some fun and get some rest tonight, my friends, cause tomorrow we'll be in Inazuma for the first time since the abolishment of the Sukoku decree!" Everyone cheered.

No one could deny that coming back to Inazuma after the decree was amazing. Basically any member of the crew would agree that the decree made Inazuma one of the worst nations to visit. Kazuha, tho, was extra excited. This was his hometown, and he was so happy to see everything in its full, reestablished, glory.

He drank a full bottle of sake that night, and he might've had more had Beidou not kept her eye on him. "You had enough, Kazuha, go to bed." He agreed without arguing.

The next morning, Kazuha was more giddy anyone on the Crux would ever see him, practically jumping in his seat as the Alcor pulled into the docs in Inazuma. He ran over to the rail.

"You looking for something?" Beidou asked it as a joke. She didn't expect Kazuha's face to light up at the sight of something, and he ran off the ship.

"Kazuhaa!!!!" An unfamiliar voice boomed through the air and the members of the Crux watched in awe as Kazuha, who had never once mentioned anyone from his life outside of his late best friend, ran up to a girl they had never met.

She was running towards him as well, and they met in the middle, with him picking her up and twirling her. "Kazuha!!!" He put her down so she could look up at him, cupping his face.

"It's so nice to see your face again, my love." He gave her a passionate kiss. She returned it, and when he pulled away, she gave him a small giggle. "I missed you so much. All that time in hiding was misery!"

She's been hiding away since the vision hunt decree was announced less than two weeks after her vision manifested. Kazuha used to come visit her often, however after joining the Crux fleet he never got the chance and was only able to slip letters for Thoma to give to her, which they are both endlessly thankful for, but seeing each other's face again is the best thing to happen to both of you.

"I have so much I need to show you tell you, do with you!" Kazuha giggled fondly in response. "That sounds amazing, my dear, but first, I need to introduce you to someone." She nods, practically bouncing in place as Kazuha beckoned Beidou over.

"You never told me you had a partner, Kazuha." She came up behind him. "I'm Beidou, captain of the Crux fleet." The girl shook her hand. "Y/n L/n. It's nice to meet you, Captain Beidou."

"You too. Glad to know Kazuha here hasn't been staring off into space these past few weeks for nothing." "Really!?" Kazuha blushed a little. "Aww, Kazu! You've been thinking of me!!" He chuckled. "Of course, my love. There's not a moment I'm not."

Lloyd brandished his sword, most of his team behind him. "Zane! Snap out of it!" His hand was shaking. "I don't want to have to fight you."

Zane shook his head, cold and detached. He wiped the corner of his mouth with a handkerchief, and it came away blotched with red. "Fighting will not be necessary. I promise it won't hurt."

"Zane, come on!" Kai pleaded. "What's gotten into you?"

"I found my real potential. The crux of my creation." The ice elemental smiled slowly. "Join me. Cole already has." He looked behind himself, and all the Ninja's eyes followed.

Behind Zane stood Cole, head bowed, thick bangs obscuring his face.

"Cole!" Jay shouted. "You snap out of it too! This isn't funny!"

At the sound of his name, Cole slowly looked up. His eyes were lidded and dark, betraying no recognition. Dark circles rested under his eyes, which were sunken in his face. He looked gaunt and tired, and all he did was stare. For all intents and purposes… he seemed dead.

"Cole!" Jay looked back to Zane, grabbing his nunchucks from his back. "Look, I don't know what you did to him, but undo it! Fix this!"

Zane's smile grew. "I can't do that, Jay."

"Yes you can! Do whatever nindroid magic you can do and change him back!"

"Nothing can stop the transformation to vampirism." Zane smiled toothily at that, unnatural and strange, betraying fangs. "Now… for the rest of you."

He took a step forward, and Cole mimicked him, almost like a puppet. Their former teammates took a step back.

"Come now, don't be shy. It doesn't hurt at all."

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

Now I may be both a good and bad person to ask about that because I've been inspired and writing almost every day for 2 1/2 years straight now and, while there certainly were unproductive episodes in terms of output or low motivation or stress and anxiety keeping me away from writing itself, I always had inspiration in my head at least; I suppose you could say I've been somewhat "blessed" with keeping this up without putting in real conscious effort. I don't think there's a secret recipe either, but I'll try to give some helpful (?) ideas :)

So a good chunk of this is sadly, or at least I suspect it might be so, dependent on how prone to hyperfixation and how attached to an individual thing you are on a personal level. Speaking for myself, I'm the kind of person who always has their "one main thing" and sticks with it for several years at least (I was tenacious enough to spend 5 years doing my own thing in a dead fandom) and slowly digs deeper and deeper as time goes on. Others may change interests more frequently, be in several fandoms at once or experience greater fluctuations with high and low creativity. That leads us to my first point: Know who you are and work with that, don't try to be anyone else.

The second thing I think is important is to find a good balance between trying to be reliable and finish your stuff and give yourself some space to do whatever you feel like and fuck around. You may have heard creativity being compared to a river before and it's true: Too much human interference - for example straightening a river - can impact the environment around it negatively, and too much scheduling and deadlines and forcing yourself to be creative will impact your creativity negatively. Make sure you have the space to at least occasionally do what comes to mind. You should be working on project A, but you're feeling project B? Work on B for a while. The muses are moody.

Another thing that may seem a little contradictory at first, but I think is helpful: Keep at it. If you do whatever is your creative thing regularly, it's less of a "big deal" and threshold to cross every time, it becomes natural and a comforting part of your routine. For writers, drabble challenges and prompt events are examples for good tools to ensure you write at least semi-regularly. But again, please don't feel like you have to force yourself to create every single day, especially if you're someone who experiences periods of little to no creative energy. That's fine. Let yourself recharge. We're all different (in general what works for me doesn't have to work for everyone else).

Now if you do find yourself in a bit of a creative slump or lose passion for a project you used to enjoy a lot, here are some things you can try:

Take a break and do something else. Scratch a different itch. Have fun!

Put yourself in the right mood/mindset by looking for media that evokes the feelings/vibes needed for your project (note that this will work better for people who are highly sensitive or otherwise react/connect to media on an emotional level more strongly). Examples: A playlist, a specific song you associate with your work, a movie/book/game/etc that inspired you, artwork of a character

Talk about it with someone else. Be excited together. Ask for advice if needed. Or just talk through whatever block you have; you may not even consciously realize it, but just to have someone listening will help with explaining the situation to both them and yourself and clearing it up

Write a project list (I recommend either a spreadsheet or a handwritten one). Sometimes the crux with a project is simply all the disorganized noise around it and you begin to feel anxious which causes writer's block and/or kills your creativity. Writing a list can clear that up, make you feel more calm and collected and show you a clear way forward. Note: This applies to other situations in life too. Try it and I promise things will become easier to handle

That's all I can think of right now. Again I can't promise any of this is "the secret sauce, but maybe some of it can help someone :)
