Sundara's Corporate Enchantment
Tumblr media
In the heart of the bustling corporate world, Sundara, a formidable professional, found herself immersed in the rhythm of deadlines and high-stakes meetings. Little did she know, a clandestine hypnotist had set their sights on her, weaving an intricate web of influence within the confines of the corporate labyrinth. The mysterious hypnotist, operating under the guise of a colleague, subtly introduced hypnotic suggestions during routine interactions. Under the guise of office camaraderie, Sundara became an unwitting subject to a mesmerizing spell that slowly infiltrated her consciousness. One fateful afternoon, during a seemingly innocuous team meeting, the hypnotist seized the opportunity. Sundara engrossed in the humdrum of corporate discussions, felt an unseen force subtly altering her perceptions. The hypnotist, with a casual flicker of their fingers, implanted powerful suggestions that would unfold in the days to come. As Sundara continued with her professional endeavours, an imperceptible transformation occurred. Her once assertive demeanour softened, replaced by newfound agreeableness. Colleagues noticed a subtle shift in her mindset, an unspoken willingness to align with the corporate objectives set by unseen hands. The hypnotic sessions continued, each interaction with the mysterious colleague reinforcing the spell. Sundara, in the grip of the hypnotist's influence, started to unknowingly enact a predetermined script, seamlessly integrating their suggestions into her daily routine. The climax of this corporate enigma unfolded during a pivotal board meeting. Sundara, usually known for her sharp analytical skills, surprised everyone with a proposal that seemed to align seamlessly with the company's hidden agenda. Unbeknownst to her colleagues, she had become a pawn in a game of corporate chess orchestrated by the mysterious hypnotist. As Sundara continued to navigate the corporate landscape, her actions and decisions were no longer entirely her own. The hypnotic suggestions had rewired her thoughts, aligning them with the concealed objectives of the unseen manipulator.
Tumblr media
Sundara's metamorphosis continued an intricate dance between the visible and the concealed. The hypnotist, a master of subtlety, maintained his clandestine influence over her, ensuring that each step she took was orchestrated by the silent symphony of suggestion. Sundara's name became the refrain in the hypnotic melody, resonating in the unseen corners of her consciousness. The hypnotist, an architect of whispers, spoke her name in tones that seeped into her very being, embedding the suggestion more deeply with each utterance. Daily, in the quiet solitude of her home, Sundara engaged in a ritual known only to the shadows. The hypnotist's voice, a soft murmur in the stillness, guided her into a hypnotic trance. The room, bathed in muted hues, bore witness to the transformation – Sundara's eyes turning an ethereal white, the signal of her entry into a world governed by suggestion and enchantment. Her daytime facade, polished and professional, concealed the nocturnal reality of her submissive trance. The corporate world, oblivious to the intricate dance taking place behind Sundara's eyes, continued its relentless march forward, as the hypnotist's influence over her deepened. Sundara's hypnotic state, a well-guarded secret, remained imperceptible to society at large. Colleagues saw a dedicated professional, the epitome of corporate elegance, unaware of the subtle strings pulling her every move. There was no rebellion within Sundara, no internal conflict disturbing the facade of normalcy. She moved through the corporate maze with the grace of a marionette, each step choreographed by the unseen puppeteer. The permanence of her hypnotic state became a silent testament to the hypnotist's mastery.
Tumblr media
As days turned into nights and nights into days, Sundara's duality became more entrenched. The hypnotist, an unseen maestro, continued to orchestrate the ballet of suggestion, deepening her trance with each passing moment. One fateful evening, under the city lights that mirrored her ethereal gaze, the hypnotist decided to bring Sundara into his presence. Their meeting was shrouded in secrecy, a rendezvous of shadows. Sundara, guided by the familiar voice that resonated within her, arrived at the designated location. The hypnotist emerged from the darkness, a silhouette with features obscured. His voice, once an elusive whisper, manifested in the physical realm. "Sundara, you have become a masterpiece of suggestion. Your every move, a stroke on the canvas of my design," he declared, his words intertwining with the hypnotic aura surrounding them. Sundara, submissive and entranced, acknowledged her transformation. "I am but a vessel, a reflection of your will," she responded, her voice a mere echo of the woman she once was. With a final command, the hypnotist intensified the enchantment, ensuring that Sundara's hypnotic state would endure indefinitely. Her eyes, perpetually white, reflected the permanence of her submission. As the shadows embraced them, the hypnotist faded back into obscurity. Sundara, now a living testament to his influence, resumed her dual life. The corporate world saw only elegance and efficiency, unaware of the silent dance between suggestion and obedience. The story of Sundara, a tale woven in the threads of secrecy and suggestion, concluded with her forever under the hypnotist's spell. Society, oblivious to the invisible puppeteer, continued its rhythm, leaving behind the enigma of a woman named Sundara – forever subdued, forever elegant.

With the currency reform of 1948 the German government heralded the start of the Wirtschaftswunder, a one and a half decade long boom of the German postwar economy. Along with it went a construction boom since wartime destructions had to be made up for and the influx of refugees from former eastern territories had to be absorbed and accommodated. In 1960 the different professional associations of architects, engineers and landscape designers published „Planen und Bauen im Neuen Deutschland“, a comprehensive compendium of a carefully selected postwar architecture: as the book’s title indicates traditionalist designs would have been contrary to the authors‘ intention to depict Germany as a modern state to be reckoned with and thus it almost exclusively features cutting-edge designs. Structured along typologies the book is a performance show of contemporary architecture and infrastructure in Germany, both state and privately owned. Together with the countless illustrations this really makes for perfect Sunday musings about postwar architecture in Germany.

tuesday again 10/10/2023
by dry volume, this post is 80% talking about gallery walls. tl;dr : do not buy or hang up things you do not like in a vague attempt to make your house look more grownup ONLY put up things you love, mat your art to give it visual room to breathe.
listening
had a playlist of the james bond theme songs on while i was deep cleaning my kitchen and the line "YOU GOT TO GIVE THE OTHER FELLA HELL!!! " from SPECIFICALLY the guns 'n roses cover of live and let die (even though the playlist had the correct mccartney version) has been THOROUGHLY stuck in my brain for forty eight hours.
youtube
-
reading
academic transphobia to follow:
an anti-reading section, for once. Retraction Watch (site that tracks academic paper retractions and major academic beef like when someone is stripped of tenure for fraud, formerly my beloved) published an op-ed by an anthropologist TERF who is Big Mad she got called out by her professional association for trying to submit a conference talk that amounted to hate speech against her trans colleagues in the name of the stupid fucking largely disproven sexing skeletons thing. the comments have devolved into the professor sock puppeting anyone who goes "hey RW why did you platform this?"
would be very interested to hear from RW about how a retracted conference talk has the same impact on the scientific community as a retracted paper, but we'll fucking see. i think RW provides an important service to the scientific community (they are the most indepth and thorough tracker of retractions, more so than the actual publishers) but this is a fucking weird move
-
watching
rewatched Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988, dir. Zemeckis) for fic research. GOD this movie is fucking good. it performs a minor animation miracle every thirty seconds.

making
by popular demand (four people), some thoughts about gallery walls. some discourse on the method, if you will. i went with a gallery wall bc i like the look and i had an extremely large blank wall to fill bc this apartment is slightly too big for me. the string lights remind me very much of my dorm rooms but cool lamps have been few and far between down here.
Tumblr media
how to get art (and why/caveats)
i honestly don't have a ton of direct collecting advice here other than "have you tried going to a lot of thrift stores". i cheat bc both my parents were architects who collected art, everyone in my family dabbles in fine art, and my sister has her bachelors in art history. so i am awash in paper, constantly. i grew up with a set of flatfiles and a closet full of spare frames. i recognize most people do not grow up like this.
with that caveat out of the way, how do i actually get my art? usually one piece at a time over a very long period of time. there's a postcard on my gallery wall i got in 2009. this is a game you will be playing for the rest of your life as you discover things you like and your tastes evolve.
it is VITAL that you love every piece on your walls. no filler ikea canvases unless you actually like them. the instant you start thinking "oh i need a landscape to look Grownup" you have to strangle that thought in the cradle. there are no rules, especially in art. put whatever the fuck you want up on your walls with no regard for the public's taste.
i feel like "i should buy and put up more art" is something that often falls into a vague Grownup Improvement Goal (like budgeting) bc it is an Grownup Improvement Goal and not bc they actually want to buy and put up more art. fortunately for everyone, you do not have to buy or put up Morally or Socially Improving art that will impress some vague category of grownups, bc we don't fucking live in victorian times.
most importantly you do not need to spend much (or in some cases any) money to put things on your walls. getting the effect you want (fancy washi tape, matching frames) may take some money, but using the printer at work and stealing some scotch tape is free.
how to get art (actual advice this time)
i feel a little silly typing this all out but i really like reading other chewsdayposters' processes, and it is really helpful for me a lot of the time to have someone say: actually there is this complete other way of doing something you have never considered bc u did not grow up with it
i ask you: do you have a stack of sentimental papers somewhere in your home? congrats you have some frameable items. a thing does not need to be Fine Art to be in a frame to go on the wall and make you happy. tape up a birthday card. put a quilt up on your wall. pushpin a label from a jar of pickled herring bc it reminds you of your grandma. frame a beloved tshirt. this is a martha stewart ass statement but things that are not traditional paper art on your walls will add variety and whimsy to your home.
other places for art that are not thrift/estate/yard sales:
i do believe that making your own art, including a $3 paint-by-numbers kit, will fix something in your brain. it's very similar to how i personally have to go stand with my feet in a body of water twice a year or THE SLUDGE smothers my brain
your favorite weird indie bands are almost certainly selling posters on bandcamp even if they're not currently on tour
i like the artists' co-op justseeds for art that deals with "social, environmental, and political engagement" like my beloved "fuck space tourism" poster
start a "good lines" or equivalent "art i like" tag on here and buy prints when u have the money. even if artists here don't have a shop open or don't have the specific piece u want as a print, ask if u can throw them an appropriate amount of money on venmo or something and get it printed locally or online. ive had good luck with vistaprint and they have rolling sales
do you like a piece of art in the public domain, like something from a museum? print it out. put it in a frame. no it's not as nice as a professional print but it's free if you do it at work and now it's on your wall
fuck around on wikimedia commons and the internet archive. i particularly love pulp magazine covers and little illustrative insets for out of date astronomy books
non- and semi-consumable supplies
if u put $25 into supplies u can use for many many other projects (i assume you probably have some of the following list), you can make any frame nice and save approximately a gajillion dollars.
good utility knife and extra blades
hammer
tape measure
level (comes with most command hook packs, you can also use your phone)
stepstool, sturdy chair, or patient tall person
assorted nails (you can buy a little tackle box with assorted nails from most big box stores)
little squeezy tube of DryDex spackle ($5) and putty knife or honestly old credit card to fill in nail holes when you move out
OR command strips and hooks
matboard that is white on one side and black on the other (~$8 at big box craft stores). you can use this to cut your own mats and/or replace a kind of weird back on an otherwise good frame
most printer paper these days is acid free. steal some from your workplace.
assorted small brushes
little thing of acrylic paint in whatever color you want your frames to be (~$1.50 ea). you can also spray paint your frames for a different finish but i don't have the space or patience in this apartment
sandpaper or sacrificial emery board
i would further recommend a little set of letter size desktop drawers/mini flatfiles like this to keep all the small stuff you want to frame in one place. i have sentimental art i don't want to frame in one drawer and things i do want to frame in the other. this has been very good for my brain bc it's all safely and flatly contained out of sight, and it's easy to flick through a stack of things i already love when i need one more small thing or one warmer thing to fill a gap
Tumblr media
frames
the good news for us is that frames and art are a fucking bitch to move and people frequently give them away. your local discount and thrift stores are going to be fucking awash in small frames 8.5"x11" and under for under $3 each. when you are thrifting or estate saling or yard saling or generally gallivanting about on a weekend, pay little attention to any art actually in a frame. is the frame in okay shape? can you repaint it without too much trouble? will it clean up all right? does it have the glass? can you insert the glass from a different frame into the one you actually want without any thrift store employees noticing?
for weird sizes above 8.5x11 and outside poster size that cannot be easily found at thrift stores, the big box craft stores here in america have roughly quarterly frame sales and frequent coupons. do NOT get your shit professionally framed at michaels bc they upcharge by about 3x compared to other local framers (both on the east coast and here in tx).
i went through two periods of seriously buying frames (last year of high school and the year i moved into the original lair, when/where i thought i was going to stay for a few years) and ive swapped in out and between those dozen or so total. once you have built up a little stock of frames that fit the general sizes of art you tend to collect, ur pretty good for a while. the only new "frame" i bought for my gallery wall was a little floating shelf.
mats
the absolute biggest fucking thing u can do to make your art look nicer is mat that bitch, which gives it room to breathe. if your art does not have a built in border or a lot of white space (see 9, 12, and 13 in the gallery wall below, as well as 8 which has a ton of negative space with the car door), you need a frame bigger than your art. you can google the suggested proportions yourself or decide with your heart.
i am a big fan of a very slapdash floating mat, which means cutting a piece of printer paper to size or flipping around the paper that tells you what size the frame is and slapping your art right on top of that, sometimes with a lick of gluestick to keep it in place. generally a floating mat means a sort of 3D matting technique but we don't have time for that. do not do this printer paper technique long-term with a particularly beloved or expensive piece of art.
u can also buy pre-cut mats at Michaels or Joann’s for not too too many dollars, or cut your own with the acid-free matboard ($10 for a poster board sized piece) and a new utility knife blade and a steady hand. or, if you're lucky, it comes with the frame.
gallery wall specific advice
there aren't any rules. actual galleries and museums tend to put the center of a piece or group of pieces at 57" from the floor. you may want to fuck around with that depending on your own height, the space you have, and the pieces you own.
a gallery wall does not need to be 24 pieces like this one. it can be any number.
this is the first one i have done mostly by myself and it is the most color-restricted one i have ever put up. it is also the one with the most successful repeating motif (circles). usually i grab the art i want most to go together and send pics to my art historian sister who will then arrange it for me and say shit like “do you have another small blue thing for the top left” or “do you have two pieces that are warmer and larger” or "different frame for the middle left"
look at a lot of other gallery walls. personally i like the ones that have non-framed and non-square things in them. ideally mine would have photographs and taxidermy in it for maximum weirdness. but u cannot go wrong with a grid, or all horizontal pieces, or all vertical pieces. for a full wall puzzle piece like this, u do not generally want an american southwest four corners meeting situation. stagger it. lay everything out on the floor and move it around eighteen times (this is the worst part). the gallery wall as a whole does not have to be perfectly aligned to the ceiling or the back of your couch or what have you. it can be sort of an organic blob shape along the top and bottom edges.
my wall
this soothing blue and green wall with wood tone pops has pieces from almost half my life. it skews later in college/recent acquisitions, as i sharpened my taste for limited-number prints and had a car to go to thrift stores with, but that’s just how this specific wall came together
Tumblr media
the list below should tell you what each piece is, how much i paid for it (and the cost of the frame if applicable), and when i got it. this wall has most of the Nice Art in my collection that is signed/numbered/in some way slightly fancier bc it is the wall i stare at when on my couch.
embroidered Scorpio constellation hoop, birthday gift from my sister (free, came with hoop, i used some makerspace felt and batting to properly back and finish it much later so free with my tuition), nov 2016
numbered and signed print of an italianate cityscape, $5 and came with the frame and mat from an estate sale, i put a new back on it with scrap matboard so the back of the print wasn't just naked, fall 2021
signed print of a new england landscape, came with the frame and the mat but is stained right over the signature :( $2.50 from salvation army, one of the last things i bought in spring 2023 before i moved
signed original multimedia on board collage by my sister from her like second ever gallery show, $69 in winter 2022 for the art, the frame was from a free pile i gave a new acid free back with scrap matboard. that was such a good free pile i got a huge pile of frames from that
magazine page (idk which one either) i saved in high school (i graduated in 2013) or very early college, frame was from a free pile by the side of the road in summer 2021 and repainted with some white acrylic paint. it is float matted with printer paper. maybe a dollar for the paint? i definitely did not buy the magazine
this is an out of print poster by one of my favorite living artists (Josh McPhee) so i emailed him and asked if i could get it printed myself if i threw him $25 and he said yes. i think it cost $22 to get it printed professionally, the frame is basics by studio decor ($20 for a 2-pack) (i spent so much money and time on this one bc i wanted a very specific look for a very specific space in my kitchen in the old apartment), feb 22
signed numbered woodcut by Roger Peet ($20 in august 2020), another studiobasics frame that was i think $8 in summer 2022. float matted with acid free matboard and not printer paper.
gigantic fuckoff unsigned unlabeled poster i bought bc she reminds me of the Barnes & Noble murals, $10 at goodwill (came with the frame, half off) sep 2023
star chart from the US Naval Observatory that was on a free shelf at Amherst College when i was taking a class there in fall 2018, another studiobasics frame (idk when i bought this one) so under $10. float mount on acid free printer paper.
plaster frog mirror from an estate sale in spring 2021, i do not remember how much i paid for it but it was not more than $5
Tumblr media
oh goddamnit this is a new block so of course it restarted the numbering. fatal off by a power of ten error, very typical for astronomy. poster from a show i went to in college spring 2015, do not remember when i bought this sub-$10 studiobasics frame either, float mount on acid free printer paper.
signed poster from my roommate-at-the-time’s cousin’s band in fall 2014 (i can’t actually find the receipt but i did find an email from her cousin letting me know he shipped me and my roommate’s orders together lol) let’s say $20, another sub-$10 studiobasics frame of mysterious provenance.
moon map out of an old science book in high school, let’s be generous and say $10 for both the book and the frame (another studiobasics)
numbered but unsigned new year’s print from a local-ish print shop in massachusetts, $12 at savers with the frame, fall 2022
cover of a very fragile vintage paperback copy of raymond c/handler’s The Long G/oodbye i acquired in high school (could not have been more than a dollar or two), with a frame and mat that came in an ikea multipack my dad bought me in high school bc i had a set of l/ackadaisy miniposters i wanted to hang, looks like the closest modern equivalent is the EDSBRUCK, a single will run you about $12 today
postcard inherited from my grandpa’s collection of loose paraphernalia in 2010 (free but at what cost etc), frame is a studiobasics that come in a pack of 6 for $20 (less if you have a coupon) so let’s round down a smidge and say $3. don’t remember when i bought this frame either, it is matted with real matboard bc the postcard and the back of the frame are so thin
“my heart is a fish” cross stitch (a reference to the imperial radch trilogy of books) i made this and did not date it but i know i blogged about it on here at some point between 2014-2018, i remember having to buy five colors of thread but owned the hoop already, again back and finished it properly much later with maskerspace batting and felt, let’s say $5 not counting my time
postcard from @believerindaydreams last winter in another studiobasics frame and float mounted with acid free matboard.
tiny moon mirror from salvation army in early spring 2015, under $5
CD mirror from Vapor95 ($125? preorder in fall 2021), came with velcro command strips which was very nice of them
a $300 original multimedia collage (the first one my sister ever made, when she was in middle school) i bought in spring 2021 from her first show, sitting on a $5 acrylic shelf from five below i bought last month
22-24 are national geographic maps, 50c each at an estate sale last month, had to buy $7 worth of binder clips and pushpins to put them up bc i don’t fucking know what box they’re in and didn’t have time to rip the whole closet of boxes im ignoring apart
a slightly longer tl;dr: do not buy or hang up things you do not like in a vague attempt to make your house look more grownup ONLY put up things you love, thrift and repaint your frames if possible but you can get very cheap studiobasics ones if you want them all to match, acid-free mat your art for preservation and to give it room to breathe, keep a little drawer or box of stuff you love and might want to frame

You were a merchant in Sumeru selling art and wood carvings, but your business wasn’t very popular. Every day was kinda slow with only a few people stopping by, and fewer people actually buying your crafts. Luckily, you had a part-time job serving food at one of the local restaurants, so you weren’t totally poor.
One especially hot day in Sumeru City, Kaveh decided to go out, wandering from merchant booth to merchant booth, he spotted you sitting alone, looking like you were going to pass out as you watched people walk right past your booth. He walks up to you a bit hesitantly. “Can I… buy something?”
“Huh?” You almost didn’t notice him at first because you were so exhausted from sitting in the heat all day. You regained your composure quickly, trying to seem at least a little bit professional and welcoming. “O-Of course! Go ahead and take a look around. I’ve got plenty of art pieces to look at.”
Kaveh was honestly just trying to be nice because you seemed so upset. So, he looked around, not expecting to buy anything because he probably wouldn’t be able to afford it. But the more he looked, the more drawn in he was. “These are really beautiful, you know. Did you make these yourself?” Kaveh, being an architect, could already picture using these as decorations in his shared home with Alhaitham.
“Yeah, I did. You like them?” You were a bit surprised at his enthusiasm for your art, but you weren’t complaining.
“I love them. You know, my roommate is so bland, we have no beauty in our home! Honestly it’s offensive how little he does for decoration. I mean, who can look at a plain wall, and think it looks good when it’s so bare? That’s absurd! I can’t believe…” Kaveh went on and on about Alhaitham while you listened to him rant, occasionally giggling at his comments.
Kaveh eventually landed on one painting in particular. It was a landscape of what looked like Monstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and Sumeru combined. The creativity in your mind to come up with and produce something as beautiful as that was outstanding. You watched carefully as Kaveh went silent, seemingly forgetting about his roommate he’s deemed “dreadful.”
After a little bit of staring in awe, he snapped out of his trance and grabbed the painting from where it was hanging. “This one,” he said, a determined look on his face.
“Okay, that will be 50 mora.”
“50-! Holy- I don’t have that much money!”
“You can always pay me back, but I need to survive somehow.”
Kaveh understands what you mean; he’s not in the best financial situation either. He thinks for a moment before looking you dead in the eye. “Deal.”
Kaveh takes home the picture and hangs it over his bed. He has a bunch of different trinkets in his room — he says they “add character.” His favorite has to be the newest addition of the painting.
But for the rest of the evening Kaveh was less focused on the painting, and more focused on you. It was weird — you were all he could think about. Your voice, your laugh, just… you. So, he decided to write a letter. He poured out how he was feeling, and how it was so confusing. He just wanted to let it all out. But once he was finished, he got nervous and didn’t send it. He just hid it behind your painting.
The next day, he kept you company at your booth. He did the same the next day, and the next. And after each day, he would write you a letter.
When the weekend came around, he didn’t see you at your booth. He got worried something had happened so he asked around. People hadn’t said anything, considering you weren’t popular. He searched around the city, trying to find someone who knew where you were, but no luck.
When he went home, Alhaitham was mocking him for “wasting his time.” Kaveh felt awful. He didn’t know what happened to you, he didn’t know what had happened to you and he could only freak out, especially since this is a lot like how his father died. Kaveh wrote another letter, saying how much he missed you. He was so worried. He just wanted you to be okay.
After he wrote the letter, he tucked it away behind the painting and laid down. He pulled the covers up to his chin and stared at the ceiling, trying to figure out what might have happened to you. You could’ve been kidnapped. You could’ve been hurt, or worse. For God’s sake, you could be dead! His brain switched to his father. First him, then his mother left to Fontaine, and now… you. Kaveh could feel the tears welling up in his eyes. He should’ve known. This always happens. He always gets left alone. The tears start to fall and soon enough he’s sobbing into his pillow, trying to keep Alhaitham from noticing. It’s late and he doesn’t want to disturb anyone for something as stupid as him crying — at least, that’s what he thinks.
He cried himself to sleep that night. He couldn’t help it. He doesn’t want to lose anyone else. He’s terrified that you’re gone for good. In the morning, he sets out early to find you. He searched all of Sumeru City but he eventually gets tired and hungry and goes to have something to eat at a local restaurant.
He walks through the door and it feels like it’s the best moment of his life. He saw you serving food to some customers sitting at a booth. He didn’t know you worked there and he was so relieved you did. He saw you smile at him and was brought back to life. He wasn’t tired anymore now that he had found you. He just wanted to see your face and never leave your side. He waved at you and have you a bright smile.
He found a seat by the bar, though he wasn’t interested in drinking. Luckily, it was almost time for your break. He waited patiently for you to come sit by him, and when you sat right next to him, he had quite the giddy feeling, but a little nauseous. Is this what they call butterflies? He’s not complaining one bit.
“You didn’t tell me you worked here!” Kaveh spoke in a tone that let you know he wasn’t actually upset, just curious.
“Oh, yeah. I guess I forgot to mention it. Sorry.” You giggled an short, awkward giggle.
“That’s okay, I was just worried about you. I didn’t know where you were and it freaked me out.”
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to worry you.”
“It’s okay, I promise. I’m just glad I found you.” You both smiled at his comment.
The conversation lasted until your break was over and once your shift was done too, you guys picked up right where you left off. As Kaveh walked you home.
This had gone on for about a month. You guys would hang out at your booth on weekdays, then Kaveh would walk you home. You guys would hang out during you break and before and after work, then Kaveh would walk you home. And after most days, Kaveh would go home and write you a letter, even though he’d never send them. But that’s what made them so special, they had his whole heart in them. He didn’t know if you felt the same, and he didn’t know if he wanted to find out.
One night in particular Kaveh write one of his most special letters. This was after he had confirmed he had caught feelings for you. He wrote about how he would’ve confessed to you if he had the guts. He wrote your name on the back of the envelope when he was done and slipped it behind the painting. It’s starting to get a little bit full so he put some in a drawer in his desk before going to bed.
In the morning Kaveh left as early as he could to go see you. After he had left, the letter from last night had called out from under the painting and onto his bed.
As Alhaitham was getting ready to leave too, he saw the letter on Kaveh’s bed. The door to his room was left open since he was in such a rush. Alhaitham grabbed the letter and saw your name on the back. The thought back to the other night when Kaveh was crying. He didn’t know why he was so upset so he didn’t disturb him. But Alhaitham isn’t a complete asshole, so he thought there was nothing wrong with helping him deliver the letter he seemed to have forgotten, right?
On his way to the akademia, Alhaitham flagged down a delivery man and had him deliver the letter to your house. Of course, you wouldn’t see the letter until after dark because it takes a while to pack up your things at your booth and walk home, but it goes a lot faster now that you have the help of Kaveh.
Once you got home, you gave Kaveh and goodbye hug and headed inside. You saw the letter that was slipped under your door and brought it into your room to read it. You sat on your bed and examined the letter. The envelope was beautiful. It was tinted a bit golden and seemed to shimmer under light. It had faint designs of flowers. It reminded you of Kaveh in a way. Him being and architect means he had to have everything look beautiful, and this envelope was just that.
You opened up the letter and saw it was from Kaveh. You started reading:
My dearest (name),
There have been many things I’ve wanted to say to you. Lately, I haven’t been able to get you out of my head. This started back when we first met, honestly. About a week after I bought that painting from you, it’s been my favorite decoration I’ve ever had. I look at it before I fall asleep and right when I wake up and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. The more I get to know you, the more I can see you in the painting. It makes my heart feel so warm, but it’s nothing like being near the real you. I want to be near you constantly. I don’t want our friendship to end. I don’t want to lose you. I want to talk to you about everything in my life and I want to listen to anything you have to say. Every time I see or do anything I always wonder what you would think about it. I always want to buy you any little trinkets that I think you would like that I see out in the town, but I never have the courage or the money to. What I’m trying to say is I am in love with you, (name). I have been for a while, and I doubt that will change. I hope you will feel the same but please don’t feel pressured to return my feelings.
Much love,
Kaveh
You did not expect that in the slightest. You couldn’t help the blush that came over your face. You folded the letter and put it in a box. You didn’t want to lose it, it was too important. You tucked yourself into bed, turned off your lamp, and tried your best to fall asleep.
The next morning you got to the booth before Kaveh, which was a bit of a relief considering the letter. You didn’t know what you wanted to say to him or how you were going to say it, but when you saw him waving to you as he walked up to your booth, you couldn’t help but feel safer.
“Hi, (name)! How was your night? Did you sleep well?” Kaveh asked casually. You were so confused about how he could be so calm after he just confessed his love to you through such a sweet letter the night before?
“I… got your letter,” you said, trying to keep your composure.
“My… what?” Kaveh gasped so loudly, you almost thought it was fake. “WHAT!? My- oh shit.” A thousand questions were racing through his head at a million miles per hour. Which letter? When did you get it? Who sent it? How did you react? He put his heart and soul into those letters and he didn’t ever plan on you getting your hands on one. He definitely felt doomed. “I-I’m so sorry, (name). I know you probably don’t feel the same. I wish I could take it back…” Kaveh went on and on talking so fast you could barely make out the words.
“Kaveh,” you said once. He couldn’t hear you. “Kaveh,” you said again. A little bit louder that time, but he still didn’t hear you. “Kaveh!” You grabbed his face, patience running thin.
Kaveh went silent, surprised by your sudden assertiveness. You stared into his eyes for a moment before kissing him. Kaveh tensed at first but eventually he melted into you.
The kiss was soft and sweet. Welcoming and reassuring. Safe and warm. On the outside, you both knew exactly what you were doing, but in the inside, you were both freaking out. But no matter what, neither of you wanted to break from the kiss.
“So… does that mean you’ll give me a chance?” Kaveh asks, practically jumping from his excitement.
“Of course it does, Kaveh.” You give him a small peck on the lips and held him close for a moment and you both just spent a moment basking in the feeling of each other’s touch.

I’m all done! Sorry if it took me too long. I might make a part two to this, I really liked writing this. I really hope you like it, Yeahneh!

🌍Tend to be die hard plant parents. They will name their plants and talk to them. Their plants will even have personalities.
🌍Tends to be animal lovers to some extent and have or want pets
🌍The foodies. Always have the best food recommendations! Known some to drive out of state just to eat at their favorite restaurant 😂
🌍Tend to be earth enthusiasts. Hates littering and usually is the “is this recyclable/biodegradable?” type of individual
🌍Usually have phenomenal wells of patience. These people are so stubborn and fixed that it’s hard for you to rattle their tail. They don’t get mad, at least not externally depending on the placements.
🌍They’re usually very creative as well. However, they’re creativity takes on functionality. These are the chefs & culinary artists, architects and interior designers, carpenters & construction workers, public parks & public entertainment spaces, pottery, candle making, fashion designers, landscaping, interactive art, etc. Their art is usually a hands on type of approach and because of this I would also include sculptors and welders
🌍Great physical balance. Make great contortionists, acrobats, yogis, etc.
🌍Can be the most ruthlessly judgmental of all the elements. Also, the most hardworking of all the elements.
🌍Can have an aversion for planes, and roller coasters. May even have a fear of heights or get motion/car sickness quite easier than others.

Passed my second professional exam, which means I'm officially half way to being a licensed landscape architect. Huge relief!!!
In spite of all my bitching and moaning about the labour abuse and green washing in this industry, I'm now committed to finishing if only to pivot this into a true landscape restoration role. I'm thinking about doctoral work again, god help me.

hi ollie ily 🥰 here are some asks for u thank yooooooou
How would you describe your writing style? (other than Phenomenal)
Top three favourite fic tropes.
Give your writing a compliment.
Wildest AU scenario you have written?
maddieeee :) Thank youuu
1. How would you describe your writing style?
it depends on what im writing. like for work obviously professional, following the tone guide. for my own stories, i think…ambling? i like to think of stories as like. a walk through a hedge maze or garden, where you’re looking at the pretty flowers & taking in the atmosphere & the architect (landscaper?) has placed statues & benches & interesting stuff at regular interesting intervals to keep your attention. i also like to think of it as a tapestry in which you can follow sentences or ideas like a thread & then when you’re done you take a step back & see how the thread fills in the whole image. but is that a writing style? embroidered? it’s a silly answer but that’s what it is
2. top three favourite fic tropes
hMMMM. coffee shop/florist/bakery aus. fake dating/fake marriage. slow burn
3. give your writing a compliment
i think it’s pretty good! i think that my sensory descriptions are pretty strong & can really build a scene for people 🌱
4. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
wildest…..probably my Frankenstein au im working on for CR. it’s not super wild but it’s a different genre for me—I don’t really write horror or gore or dark fics & i do think it will lean that way when i get around to writing it. it’ll be fun!!!

The Hidden Gardens of Kyoto
Photographs by Katsuhiko Mizuno - Text by Masaaki Ono
Kodansha International, Tokyo 2004, 198 pages, 23x30,3cm, ISBN 9784770029379
euro 49,00

The Hidden Gardens of Kyoto is the attractive sequel to Landscapes for Small Spaces by the same photographer, Katsuhiko Mizuno. In this new book, Mizuno introduces the gardens of Kyoto that are not easily accessible or are totally closed to the public. Mizuno was born in Kyoto and has spent most of his life in this old capital, established in the eighth century. Kyoto is not susceptible to short-term fashions, and this rigidness can be seen in the way it has kept the tradition of garden art alive over the centuries in public and private spaces. Thanks to his familiarity with the city, Mizuno has been able to penetrate its hidden corners and capture the beauty of unknown gardens with his cameras. The Hidden Gardens of Kyoto displays more than fifty gardens, from private dwellings to the Imperial Palaces and Villas, temples, tea schools and shrines. The elements and structure of each garden are explained by Masaaki Ono, who studied under the greatest twentieth-century garden designer, Mirei Shigemori. Plans drawn by Ono also accompany some of the garden descriptions. Some Japanese gardens are planned so as to be seen from one vantage point, but many are designed for viewing from multiple angles. In his previous book, Mizuno only showed us one aspect per garden, but this time we are given various views as we explore the stroll gardens or look down from the verandas of the buildings surrounding enclosed gardens. This three-dimensional approach will help both professional and amateur garden designers and landscape architects to understand the structure as well as the diverse vegetation used in one garden.
