Every autumn Dunedin Fine Art Center chooses a universal theme that runs through all of their galleries. This year they chose PLAY. It’s a wonderful choice and makes for a delightful time in the various galleries.  This is the last week to see two of the exhibitions- PLAY On!, a selection of wonderful artist made toys and toy related art (photos above), and LOL: Funny Papers, a juried selection of  art work incorporating comics, illustrations, zines and mixed media collage (photos below).
Catch both of these shows before they close on 10/15/23.

Big photodump post from St. Pete over a week late because I kind of forgot Tumblr existed 🤙
Everything just kinda. Kept Happening To Me that weekend, and it was great!!! Got to catch up with my various team contacts, meet up with friends, talk to my favs, finally deliver the canvas print, see racecars, ride in the pace car, take Victory Circle pictures with Marcus, and and and-
Honestly, could not have asked for a better birthday weekend and now I’m counting down the days to the 500 (since I’ll be working that event) where I can see everybody again 🫶

In the pre-dawn of May 6, 2022, SpaceX Starlink 4-17 launched. This particular launch was such that the Giant Space Jellyfish happened. I shot the launch from 135-ish miles away at the St. Pete Pier. I made a 16x24 inch print of this on Kodak Endura Radiance Metallic paper. It is really stunning. And it needs a home. It is for sale on my website. This is a one-of-one edition. There will not be another on this paper. Ever. Because there is no more of this paper. Kodak is no longer making it. This is a chromogenic (C-type) wet process photographic print (light + silver + chemistry = magic!). It needs to find a good home. Maybe your’s?

Featured Post: Do You Believe in Magic | Book 1 by Jim Melvin
Tumblr media
About Do You Believe in Magic | Book 1: Be prepared for a full-blown launch into a fantasy realm loaded with magic, monsters, courageous acts, and a dash of sweet romance. After discovering a magical waterfall deep in the forest, a boy and his dog embark on an epic adventure in a fantastical world filled with monsters and magic. In the real world, Charlie is a 13-year-old nerd picked on by bullies. But in the fantasy world, he becomes a wizard wielding formidable powers. Standing in his way is a vile monster bent on destruction. Only those with a hero’s heart will have the courage to stand at Charlie’s side when the war begins. Targeted Age 13 and older Written by: Jim Melvin Buy the ebook: Buy the Book On Amazon Link to Series Buy the Audio Book: Buy the Book On Amazon Buy the Print Book: Buy the Book On Amazon Author Bio: I grew up on the shores of western Florida and spent much of my childhood swimming in shark-infested waters long before the movie "Jaws" put a scare into everyone. At the time, I was too skinny to attract a shark’s attention, anyway. About ten other boys my age lived on my same street, and we hung out morning, noon, and night playing the usual sports that young boys love — football, baseball, “kill the carrier,” etc. — but as a group, we also played fantastical games that contained magic, monsters, and superheroes. It was in this setting that my imagination as a writer of magical fantasy was born and nurtured. I moved from Florida to Upstate South Carolina about twenty years ago and drove from Tampa-St. Pete to the Clemson area on Interstate 75 many times. It’s about a 10-hour drive, which is quite wearisome. And the traffic around Atlanta can be horrendous. I’ve always found the rest stops to be a bit spooky, especially at night. My MC Charlie Magus also found them to be spooky. If you read "Do You Believe in Magic?", you’ll find out why. My first home in SC was on forty wooded acres that included a creek that wound through a forest to a waterfall. It wasn’t as magnificent as described in my books 😀, but it did serve as the inspiration for the story. I am at home in the mountains. It’s where I now live, and I do long hikes at least three days per week. Characters in fantasy novels tend to wander around a lot in the wilderness, so I feel comfortable writing about natural surroundings. I have written my teen fantasy trilogy "Dark Circles" with young teens in mind. I tell potential readers that it is appropriate for 13 and older, though readers as young as 10 and as old as 80 have enjoyed it. When I say appropriate, I mean that there are no sex scenes and very limited profanity. But like most epic fantasies, the series has its violent moments — sort of like the later Harry Potter books. But just because a series is appropriate for young teens doesn’t mean that it has to be sophomoric. To the contrary, "Dark Circles" is a sophisticated work with a lot going on between the lines in terms of themes, allegorical elements, symbolism, foreshadowing, literary tropes, etc. My free Substack newsletter (Jim Melvin’s Realms of Fantasy) goes into extensive depth about this. Some of the themes in my series are obvious: bullying, good vs. evil, coming of age, heroism. But in the end, the most important theme of all is the idea that only the best among us are willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good — the literary equivalent of a soldier throwing himself on a hand grenade. Go big or go home! Stoked I can finally tell you: an XXL version (6 x 4 feet!) of this photo from Big Cypress will be on display at 4 Gats Gallery tomorrow night during my ArtWalk photo exhibit. [521 27th Street S, St Pete -- Sat 11/12 -- 5pm-9pm -- just north from The Factory] I can finally tell you because it just arrived and it now really exists. Now we just have to hang it in the gallery garden once the rain stops... The things you can see once you have a print this big! And it's not a regular photo paper print - this is for the outdoors and it's not metal either... Yup, trying something new yet again... You gotta come out tomorrow night to see it... https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck1H6xSPLFA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Have you ever wanted to improve your financial literacy? Do you want to save money whenever and wherever you can? Well look no further as Erika Kullberg reads the fine print of companies so you don’t have to!
Kullberg is a corporate lawyer and personal finance advisor who is currently the founder of legal tech startup, Plug and Law. Having graduated law school with over $200 thousand in debt and paying it all off within two years, Kullberg discovered her passion of helping others with financial advice in an effort to help you become a more informed individual. With over 17 million followers on all social media platforms combined, she recently released the first two episodes of her new podcast Erika Taught Me, where she interviews a successful figurehead every week and asks about their story and how they got to where they are. Guests vary from Jane Wurwand, founder of Dermalogica, to Ryan Serhant, a real estate broker and founder of SERHANT, and even Pete Buttigieg, current Secretary of Transportation for the United States.
In preparation for a video of some sort, she reads through the company policy and legal documentation of a certain institution, finds any money-saving clauses that most consumers wouldn’t be aware about, simplifies and present them through a screen so that people know when they get potentially save a bit of money or get a refund/exchange. For example, in your YouTube Short, What airlines don’t want you to know about getting compensation, she explains that if you are caught in a delay from an airline and it surpasses an exceeded amount of time, you are legally entitled to compensation according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The hidden movie shapeshifter cop
Tumblr media
His lawyer helps by pointing out that one word it forms, “Ashland”, is a nearby street. Dean’s lawyer, Jeff Krause, arrives, but rather than speak to him Dean borrows a pen and tries to work out if “danashulps” is an anagram. Sheridan is convinced of Dean’s guilt he appears particularly invested in the case because Tony Giles was a friend of his. Detective Ballard reveals she knows a lot about Sam’s history as well, and tries to get him to admit Dean’s involvement in the murders.ĭetective Ballard leaves to confer with her colleague Detective Pete Sheridan, with whom she is having a relationship. Detective Diana Ballard interviews Sam, and he spins her a tale about Tony being an old friend of their father. A lengthy police record has been uncovered for Dean, including suspicion of involvement in the murders in St. Sam is arrested at their motel room, and back at the police station the boys are interrogated separately. As he bends over to examine bruises on her wrists, the police burst in and arrest him. When Dean arrives, he finds her dead in a pool of blood with a pile of paper near her which also has “danashulps” printed on it. At her home, Karen sees a ghostly figure and rushes to call 911. Sam stays to hack into the computer while Dean decides to return and ask Karen whether the name means anything. Breaking into his office, Sam and Dean find a printout with “danashulps” printed repeatedly on it, which they assume to be a name - Dana Shulps. They interview his wife Karen, who reports that he had a nightmare or vision of a woman the night before he died. In Baltimore, Sam and Dean investigate the murder of a lawyer, Tony Giles, who was killed in his office, although the security cameras show no one either entering or leaving the room.

Wild & Free RISO Print
Here at Kosharek Art… we love RISO prints!  They are reminiscent of 1950s advertising.  The printing process involves, in this case, a 3 color process of printing my art image.  Each color is printed separately–like a silk screen process… and lends itself to slight differences in each print,  It’s the “mistakes” that bring all the charm of a Risograph print!  We have teamed up with Print St. Pete…

in the new year i have goals to do different things with my artwork...  so today i printed the last of my blank textile materials ...  eventually i will probably go back to making tote bags and towels to sell but at least for the near future i want my art to be a little more about exploring and a little less about producing...
so, the last of my morning market dates is approaching and i’m glad to be going out on a high note as i love how this bee and hibiscus combo turned out!  i custom mix my ink colors and love how the gray and mustard colors work together. i also love the red and purple combo on the dragonfly star bags...  i hope in the coming year to print more art images that concentrate on basic artistic concepts like color and are more open ended in terms of content and inspiration...    stay tuned!

Above are images from the recently opened Drew Marc Gallery, part of The Factory St. Pete’s complex in the Warehouse District. In addition to the artwork, the gallery also had live painting by Michelle Gordon.
At Morean Center for Clay is Lauren Hope: Time (pictured below), a solo exhibition that includes the artist’s ceramic work and photography.
From the gallery-
...Time is an investigation of alternative photographic process, using clay as a catalyst for record keeping. Using ceramic vessels as pin hole cameras, Lauren captures moments in time and transfers them onto ceramic surfaces. This exhibition will be a collection of photographic prints, vessels, cyanotypes, and handmade pinhole cameras.
Her statement about her work-
My work is heavily influenced by the complexity of hues, forms, and patterns found in the natural world. This studio practice has become deeply cathartic, signifying the ephemeral and fleeting notions of time.
Ceramic vessels within this collection are wheel-thrown, altered, and sculpted. Every striation carved serves as a visual representation and a gentle reminder of the delicate passing moment. This method of subtractive carving has become transformative, developing into deep states of meditation and reflection.
Experimental photography is used as an explorative process, allowing for the convergence of internal and external experiences. By casting memories and photographic recollections onto stoneware, I attempt to immortalize my profound experiences and revelations.
This exhibition will be on view until 12/30.
