Hey, Zal! So I was wondering, since you seem to be a nutcracker fan, what are your thoughts on princess pirlipat? Is she going to appear in misfits like young drosselmeyer?

For the holiday season, I have a special chapter where I tell my reimagined events of the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Princess Pirlipat's curse is reimaginef as a transformation into a toyfolk.

There ! the end result here is the final design of the king and queen of the toy kingdom! they still have no name... maybe for the queen the name of Prescillia or Antoinette, I'm not sure and the king, Philippe or Edmond...

Inktober 2024 Day 11: The Mouse King

The Main Antagonist from E. T. A. Hoffmann's Christmas Story, "The Nutcracker" (sometimes known as the "Rat King").

Describe being a Seventh-Headed Mouse, the Mouse King's Mother, Madame Mouserinks (The Mouse Queen) knew about the Nutcracker for she cursed Drosselmeyer's Nephew into a Nutcracker in a Royal Family's castle for when his Mother tried to have Princess Pirlipat be Ugly after when his Mother was killed, he took over and became the New Ruler of Mice.

The Mouse King plays a significant role in the story as the Main Villain where he serves as The Nutcracker's Arch-Nemesis since He & his Army terrorized Clara/Marie's house & even in Toyland.

His Death has a different fate in both versions.

In the Novel, Marie was threatened by the Mouse King but the Nutcracker saved her life by killing him off.

In the Play, Clara (The Other "Name" besides than "Marie") throws her own slipper at the Mouse King to where he falls over into his death, instantly killing him.

Poor young Prince Nikolai who just wanted to make things right, insulted, mocked and rejected. The King of the Nutcrackers is angry, all he had to do was grit his teeth for everyone to stop making fun of the prince. The King of the Nutcrackers has no more patience with the kingdom of toys.

An angry Nutcracker Dad is the last thing the Toy Kingdom needs....

I felt like reading Hoffman's Nutcracker and Mouse-King this Christmas, and it's a bracing reminder that it's fine to have arbitrary rules in your fairy tale, you don't need Lore infodumps pretending it's sensible, you don't need justifications, you don't need to be Tolkien with a backstory for everything.

at last it became clear, that the Princess Pirlipat, in order to be freed from the magic which had deformed her, and to regain her beauty, had nothing to do but to eat the kernel of the nut Crackatuck.

Now the nut Crackatuck had such a hard shell, that an eight-and-forty pounder might be wheeled over it without breaking it. This hard nut must be cracked with the teeth before the princess, by a man who had never been shaved, and had never worn boots. The young man must then hand her the kernel with closed eyes, and must not open them again until he had marched seven steps backward without stumbling.

No explanation for why these rules are like that.

The explanation for how they found this out is "horoscope".

So the royal watchmaker and the royal astronomer spend the next fifteen years traveling the world looking for the nut Crackatuck. The watchmaker is dispirited and decides to visit his hometown, complains to his brother living there, and his brother conveniently turns out to have the nut Crackatuck. Also, the brother's son qualifies to crack it.

(Note: '48-pounder' refers to an artillery piece whose missile weighs that much.)
