Hey, Zal! So I was wondering, since you seem to be a nutcracker fan, what are your thoughts on princess pirlipat? Is she going to appear in misfits like young drosselmeyer?

For the holiday season, I have a special chapter where I tell my reimagined events of the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Princess Pirlipat's curse is reimaginef as a transformation into a toyfolk.

This is one of my initial Pirlipat concept art. Initially, I imagined her not with fair skin and hair, but with dark skin and golden hair. Now I've given up on this idea because a more interesting one has come to me.

Unfortunately, because of a simple pencil, the whole essence of art is not clear

Final Redesign - Princess Pirlipat

After the events that had taken place during The Nutcracker, Princess Pirlipat had once again been entrusted in taking care of the Kingdom of Toys in Roland’s absence.

No longer bearing the selfish heart she once had, Pirlipat cares deeply for the people of her kingdom and does all she can to see their smiling faces and their happiness.

I only wish the best for her as well. 

How has she been doing, I wonder?

So late night Brain babble of sorts, I’m debating on which Bard I want to use for a Friend’s Game. Which one would be best, Catrina (Ahuizotl Opera singer that is most definitely a loose cannon and maybe running an underground Organ Harvesting ring) or Pirlipat (Furby like Warforged Teen Pop idol from the pits of hell)?

Rosymaplemoth requested for me to draw her OCs Pirlipat and Clara Marie in Utena-esque style. So I attempted to do that, but I realized way too late that the poses aren't nearly flamboyant enough. Welp.

There is one thing about tnatmk that I really like, that no adaptation really explores in depth (including Real Toys because I altered the story too much to be able to do it).  That’s the part where Princess Pirlipat was cursed from time she was a baby to when she was sixteen years old.  

And it is really interesting to think about, because she doesn’t remember a time from before he was cursed- she was too young.  So she’s been ‘ugly’ all her life, and all her life her parents have been telling her she’s ugly, that she needs to be fixed, that a mouse cursed her.  This despite the fact that she’s used herself and gets along fine.  This is all she knows- that she’s not good enough.  That she’s broken goods.

And then the young man comes along and cracks the nut and she looks human again.  And her parents are so happy!  They’re crying, and hugging her, and telling her she’s beautiful.  She’s beautiful.  Words she can’t remember ever hearing.  Words she’d always dream that they’d say.

But there is some kind of commotion.  She looks over.  That’s her savior.  But wait.  It’s not.  He has her face.  Her old face.  The face she just shed.  The face she learned to hate so much.  The face that kept her parents from loving her fully.  

Yanno, a lot of people get mad at Pirlipat for turning the nutcracker out, but I don’t think I can entirely blame her.  She’s sixteen years old, she just had a very dramatic transformation, and now she’s been promised to go away and marry some stranger.  Her parents promised that a long time ago, but come on, can’t she stay here, and just enjoy being pretty, and loved?

The nutcracker has to go.

And I tend to imagine what it was like for her, seeing her uncursed face for the first time.  Like, she looks in the mirror, and there’s this stranger.  It’s pleasant face but like, she doesn’t feel like he owns it.  She’s never seen that girl before.  But it’s the face that makes her worthy of love, so she’ll learn to like it, she thinks.  Even if it creeps her the fuck out.  Even if it makes her feel like a stranger in her own body.

Alternative take: You cut out the middleman.  Pirlipat the nutcracker never gets uncursed, and becomes an immortal doll queen who later goes totally gay for a dancer named Marie...

Okay so feeling nostalgic for no reason other than I blame Tattletail for it, I went and made myself a Furby inspired Golem. Well Not just any old Furby, but my own Furby I used to have as a kid. I'm disappointed at how the scanner ate the pink on some parts of this one, but other than that Pirlipat came out cute. She'll be made eventually as an experiment with needle felting, more specifically her arms and legs as I want that sort of muppet feel to her.

Now to explain the water reaction, when I had my furby, I was playing outside with some friends and we decided that my Furby needed a bath. You can imagine my poor parents when they found out what I did to that Furby. So now this one will have the characteristics of pure hydrophobia, refusing to go in water and only uses bathing powders much like a Chinchilla would. I have to say, Pirlipat is definitely the most outrageously pink golem I've produced with the most anime looking eyes ever too. Darn those anime eyes...darn...
