Before we get into it, the Emmys are tomorrow so any exclusive attention Harry or Meghan might get will be quickly pushed out of the news cycle by the red carpet. (If you're not familiar, the Emmys are the E in EGOT and recognize accomplishment in television. This year's ceremony is hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy and will mark the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite shows of all-time, The West Wing.)

Meghan Markle is CEO and founder of Ain’t It Crap ( AIC) . This is a new and exciting venture she has planned since she was 11. When she was 11 she helped change the way men and women thought of dishwashing. She alone did that! Washing dishes was not any longer just a “woman’s work”. She wrote to the soap company and put her foot down. At 11 years old. That change was revolutionary for all. It was at this time she realized she had power like no other. I sat down with Meghan for a “exclusive” interview, and let me tell you….it is time I will never get back. We sat down at one of the many homes she rents. There were no children present. Harry was not present. I don’t know where they were, as she never answered when I asked, she just starting talking!

Interviewer: Meghan, so look at you! You are beaming! You must be quite proud of yourself?

Meghan: Well, yes I am. Although I must say, I am always proud of everything I have ever done. When I was 11 I wrote to a soap company. I changed….

Interviewer: Excuse me Meghan, we are here to talk about your new company and your only product Jam….

Meghan: Who is in charge here? I am! Anyways, I saw a tv commercial and the woman was washing dishes! Well, knock my socks off! No way! I found a pen and paper and wrote a letter! I said it was wrong to have women washing dishes! Women have one place only, and it’s not in the kitchen washing dishes! Anyways, I strongly suggested that I would NEVER buy their soap again, unless they put out a commercial right away with a man washing dishes! Interviewer: So your new company is called Ain’t It Crap. How did you come up with the name?

Meghan: Well, when I was 11….I had a vision of me, myself and I owning a company. Not just a company, but a company that would surpass Betty Crocket! I wanted a company that both men and women could purchase from. I wanted a company that could pass off anything. A secret? My ultimate dream was a company SCAM….and what rhymes with SCAM? JAM does! I knew my first and only product would be JAM. I wanted to do things differently. I refuse to put any ingredients, etc on my label! It’s no one’s business how many calories are in it. No one’s business what ingredients are in my JAM. Although I will tell your readers only….the ingredients are a mix mash of fruits and veggies, lots and lots of food colouring, and a teaspoon of honey. Do I make it myself? Oh no! I can’t even boil water! I can only “act” like I cook for the cameras!

Interviewer: It is said that Harry cooks the JAM? True, or not true?

Meghan: Look, Harry has one job! His job is to keep trying to convince the world he is a Prince. I would say a Prince can sell JAM easier than Tony, Bob, Joe down the street! Shout out to you Tony, Bob and Joe!

Interviewer: So who does make the JAM? People are saying only 1 jar of JAM exists? They say, you buy other jam, and package it as your own?

Meghan: You know, haters will always hate! People are so jelly of me, people don’t see the amount of time and number of people it takes to make one jar of my JAM! Can we take a break? I feel one tear, left eye coming…there it is…. Did you get the picture? Focus in on the tear.

Interviewer: Is your JAM good, what does it taste like?

Meghan: Where did you learn to interview? It is the BEST JAM in the whole wide world. There is nothing like it! Listen, I pay for people to like it, you can see that in my two reviews! They love it! I think this is about my race. Are you a racist? You don’t like my JAM? Have you tried it? Here, try it!

Interviewer takes a taste.

Meghan: Why are you making faces? Is it because I am biracial? Why?

Interviewer: That is the worst JAM I have ever tasted. I would not buy it, I would not tell anyone to buy it.

The interview did not end well! She threw chairs, threw herself on the floor, kicking and screaming…threw the jar of JAM, and her wig went flying! It was quite the scene. She couldn’t calm down. It’s obvious that Amal was fortunate enough to have examples of strong and powerful women not only in her home but in the workplace.

I admire Amal for her intelligence, wit, and ability to keep most of her personal life private. Not much is said about her private life, but colleagues have mentioned that Amal has a ‘commanding presence”. This is obvious when watching her interviews — her energy fills the room. She never overshares or says more than necessary, but when she does speak it’s worth listening to. As you probably guessed, she is an intelligent woman. Fluent in English, French and Arabic. Her cleverness and well articulated speeches immediately captivates those around her.

love life

One person who was captivated by her mind is her husband George Clooney. In the world of law, she was already a celebrity but became one in the literal sense when she became involved with the well known bachelor, George Clooney. George had a long history of dating gorgeous, famous women but never settled down. He even publicly said he would never get married... this was until he met Amal in July of 2013, in Lake Como Italy.

Similar to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the two met through a mutual friend. This is why your connections, network, and personal brand matters — those can open more doors for you than a dating app can. While most women would fall at the feet of George, Amal didn’t. Harry FINALLY cut ties with Britain: Exiled prince lists US as primary residence for first time - amid deportation fears over past drug use

Soon after announcing his and Meghan's decision to quit royal duties in 2020, the Duke of Sussex declared at a charity event: 'The UK is my home and a place that I love. That will never change.'

Four years later, much, it seems, has changed.

The Daily Mail can disclose that Prince Harry has updated his records in this country to make clear that he no longer lives in Britain.

Filings published by Companies House today for 'Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex' record that his 'New Country/State Usually Resident' is now the USA. It was previously recorded as the United Kingdom.

The change comes as pressure increases on US President Joe Biden's government to release Harry's visa records after campaigners seized on comments made by the American ambassador to London that he would not be deported while the Democrat was president.

The new details, filed at Companies House for Harry's eco travel venture Travalyst, also raise serious questions about whether he can remain as a Counsellor of State, one of seven members of the Royal Family who can deputise for the Monarch if he is abroad or unwell.

By law, Counsellors of State are required to have a UK domicile, but Harry has no home here after King Charles asked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth.

Dr Craig Prescott, an expert on constitutional law, said last year: 'We are really in uncharted waters here: the Prince Harry situation is not something the law easily allows for.

'The idea of the second son of the King choosing a life away from royal duties is not something the law has thought about, and I can imagine that Buckingham Palace would be concerned by that. 

The King had the chance to remove him with the counsellor-of-state legislation last year, but chose not to.'

Until 2022, the Counsellors of State were Queen Camilla, Prince William, Harry, Prince Andrew and his elder daughter Princess Beatrice. 

However, many considered this situation unsuitable as Harry, the Duke of York and Beatrice are not working royals.

Later that year, the King asked parliament to add his sister, Princess Anne, and youngest brother, Prince Edward, to the list.

It was reported that the King decided not to remove Harry and Andrew because he did not want to escalate family tensions and believed it was unlikely either would ever be required to deputise for him.

However, last year courtiers were keen to ensure that William returned to Britain from a solo trip to New York before the King and Queen departed for their state visit to France on the same day. 

The situation has since become even more urgent because of the King's cancer treatment.

Harry challenged the decision by the Home Office to remove his right to automatic Metropolitan Police protection when he is in Britain, even though he has offered to pay for it himself. 

After the decision was made, a legal representative for Harry has said he was 'unable to return to his home' with his family because it is too dangerous.

He has since lost the court case and potentially faces a bill of around £1million when his own legal costs are taken into account.

A judge rejected a bid to halve the amount he had to pay by saying the Duke of Sussex had 'comprehensively lost' his case.

Separately Sir Peter Lane also threw out the duke's application to appeal against the ruling, describing one section of it as 'frankly hopeless'.

The Heritage Foundation has been pushing the Department of Homeland Security to open its dossier on Harry under America's freedom of information laws.

After he admitted taking cocaine in his memoirs, Spare, he faced questions over how he had been able to move to the USA, where admitting drug use can block a visa application.

For those who are Not Irish (so sorry), RITY is a TV programme we have here in Ireland. It airs every Friday, and each episode details the events of a certain year. They play video clips from that year with subtitles informing the viewer of the context, with both National and international news.

For example, RITY for tonight was 2018. For national news, it discussed the 8th Amendment Referendum which decriminalised abortion in Ireland, the breaking of the Cervical Check scandal where hundreds of Irish women got false negatives during screenings for cervical cancer and were told they were healthy when they in fact had cancer (rip Vicky Phelan), the Papal visit where Pope Francis spoke about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, the Irish presidential election of that year, the record temperatures and forest fires that year, and the formal apology made to Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

In international terms, there was Meghan Markle/Prince Harry's wedding, Trump's visit to both the UK and meeting with Kim Jong Un, the Brexit deal made with the EU, the forcible separation of immigrant children and parents at the US border, and the rescue of the soccer team from the Thai caves.

I was twelve during 2018. I read the newspapers occasionally and my parents always had the 6 o'clock news on, but generally I didn't really know much about what was going on in the world. The first episode of Reeling In The Years described the events of 1962, and even my parents hadn't been born yet. It is such an important show, because every episode reminds you or teaches you about the past in both Ireland and the wider world.

"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" etc etc. Reeling In The Years ensures that Irish people know their past and are informed of what went on in the world, even during years they weren't alive or paying attention. And we need reminders too. The abortion referendum was six years ago, but in an age where abortion laws are under threat in the US and a recent referendum on a woman's place in the home and the definition of care was struck down, we need to remember that we are a country who cared about women, and that we can do it again.

The last episode of Reeling in the Years that I watched was 2016, the year the people of Ireland decided overwhelmingly in favour of allowing gay marriage. I was ten. I didn't even think about boys, let alone girls, but now I care. Now I know the attitudes of the time, the decisions that were made and how they affect me now.

People need to know their past in order to build their future.
