“humans are inherently selfish because it’s in our nature to only look out for ourselves” shut the FUCK up even if by “ourselves” you mean “other humans” you’re fucking wrong and trying to find excuses to be cynical so your misery is justified to you
ahem. sorry. got ahead of myself
anyways humans (and animals in general) do this little thing called mutualism where we make friends with another species basically. this is how we domesticated dogs. and cats. and basically every domesticated animal. when dogs were wolves they easily coulda killed us and vice versa but we both recognized that we could be stronger together so we worked together and now we have little animal companions we keep with us. when people used canaries to measure co2 in coal mines they built boxes to seal the canary from the co2 and connect it to an oxygen tank so it wouldn’t suffocate. we rehome bugs instead of squishing them. people see squirrels on the street and smile. we pack bond motherfucker it’s like a huge part of what got us to be the Big Species we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t love not only each other but also every living creature on this planet
Tumblr media
love is human nature and human nature is love Do You Understand
#marzirants#you WILL recognize the inherent compassionate nature of the world and you WILL smile#and yes even with this love we have the capacity for violence. if you have a pet and you wouldn’t go john wick for them you’re a liar#it’s called devotion#anyways back to my main point#humans pack bond super super hard#it’s why we take care of plants and smile at animals and play with fish#and get so happy when we learn that rats giggle when they’re being tickled#i could give examples forever you understand#it is literally in human nature to look at a little guy (any shape and size) and fall in love#we are so full of love. that we sew and make little soft creatures that we can hug so hard#so we can express that excess love without killing an animal#and also because they bring us comfort and joy#WE HAVE A WHOLE HORMONE THATS MAIN PURPOSE IS TO REWARD YOU FOR CARING ABOUT SOMEONE#OXYTOCIN. THE FUCKING HUG HORMONE. WE’RE ADORABLE WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT#look. are there bad things in the world? yes. is the world unjust? cruel even? yes.#but to blame it on ‘human nature’ not only prevents real change from happening and shielfs you from responsibility for your inaction#but is also just fucking insulting to actual human nature#we love. we are loved. this is human nature#if you’re loveless then i’m talking about compassion and the desire to look out for each other#‘love’ is just what i’m using as shorthand for that. i mean kindness#anyways *gripping you by the shoulders* do you understand. humans care that is our one consistent thing we care for everything

How did Damian not have a panic attack every time he showed kindness or mercy to someone else, after the way he was raised?
#he would have been punished every time he showed ‘weakness’ as a child#like in that one robin son of batman issue where ra’s was going to blind ravi and damian was told he could stop it but he would receive the#punishment meant for ravi#the league taught him that helping others meant taking their vulnerabilities for yourself#and in a world where he’s fighting for *survival* every day? where every bit of extra strength or weakness matters?#helping others is a death sentence#which is why i hate so much the repeated ‘damian is evil’ storylines#and dc saying that he went to hell when he died#because this child is not evil he is the farthest thing from it#the world taught him to be harsh and violent and cruel just to survive#before he could even walk it beat out of him all the softness and empathy it could reach and some of it he’ll never get back#but he’s robin and everyday he gets up and helps people anyway#he was told compassion wasn’t an option but he chose it anyway#he CARES and he has such a big heart and he tries so hard to be *good*#and i also love damian and his pets for the same reason because even when he was struggling to be empathetic towards people#he still cared about his pets and took care of them#the fact that even after a childhood where he was prevented from birth from showing any sort of kindness#he still has a part of him that is capable of caring unconditionally for living beings outside himself#shows a kind of strength that not everyone has#and look at how much progress he’s made in just the four years he’s lived away from the league#some people with the kind of trauma he has don’t make that kind of progress in their entire lives#he’s a GOOD kid and i’m so fucking proud of him#he’s not evil and he never has been#wow those tags got long#damian wayne#robin#batfamily#dc comics

Look at the post I reblogged before I wrote this one for context (it’s about spanking children and why it’s bad because somehow that is still up for debate in some places)
Ok! So! Welcome to Nix’s Simplified Course on Why Hurting Your Child (or pet) Is Bad™️
We know when training, say, an animal, that they will not learn if they are scared. The part of the brain responsible for learning literally shuts down and sends them into a 4F response (fight, flight, freeze, fawn)
Fight - self explanatory. Lashing out in self defense
Flight- self explanatory. Attempting to put distance between themself and the source of discomfort/fear/pain
Freeze - think “deer in headlights”. The fear short circuits the body, and immobilizes them. (My guess, the evolutionary reason for this is to stop a predator from noticing them. I.e. a rabbit freezes so a dog won’t see it)
Fawn- a more recently defined term, in which the victim, in a sense, goes overboard trying to please the captor. I.e. a horse that is anxious and performs perfectly because it will get hurt if it doesn’t (this is seen in jumpers in a practice called rapping)
At our core, humans are animals. Raising children is like an ongoing training process, teaching them how to survive, take care of themselves, and integrate into society.
When we harm a child, the brain disconnects. The child might know they are hurt because they did xyz, but oftentimes they don’t. Even if they do know, we know the body and brain will record events outside the scope of the conscious mind. It’s why trauma when one was passed out still has lasting effects despite the victim being unconscious.
By harming a child, you do not teach them. You send them into a primal survival state. It is virtually impossible to learn when you are in pain or fear as an adult, let alone as a child.
If you want to teach a child, you have to *teach* them. That means you need to show the right answer and make it easier to achieve. That means you need to forgive mistakes instead of punish them. Not sweep it under the rug- tell them nicely that wasn’t the right answer and then HELP them find the correct answer.
If a child knows what is expected of them, they will more often than not meet that expectation. If they are shown how to meet the expectation and given the resources to, they will.
It’s not that hard to understand.
Example A: you are walking a dog. The dog is pulling. You could yank the leash and choke the dog, or you could get their attention and reward them when they slow down and put some slack in the leash. If you yank, the dog will jump and pull more to escape. This poses a danger to yourself, the dog, and those nearby. This starts a vicious cycle. Dog pulls, you yank, dog jumps, you pop, dog bolts, you whack. Or, you can get the dogs attention, show them what to do (walk calmly without pulling) and reward them for the correct answer. This incentivizes then to continue seeking the correct answer.
Example B: a child hits you. You could hit them back. The child learns either that a) hitting someone means they get hit so they no longer hit (even when they should, I.e. getting assaulted) or b) hitting someone means they need to fight to be heard. This means the child now feels the need to immediately resort to violence to be heard. Or, instead, you could tell them no. You could block the hit, gently hold their hand to stop them from hitting, and explain why it’s bad. When they don’t hit, they are rewarded- whether it be a hug, praise, or candy, any pressure should be released and a good stimulus applied. It will take repetition and patience, but will be more effective and healthier for all involved.
Now let’s look at the long term effects of each example and outcome
Example A, outcome 1: the dog has learned that pulling = pain/stress. They are now difficult to leash and walk, and are likely to escape. (Flight) When on leash, they are unruly and violent, jumping and yanking with enough force to pull your arm from its socket. (Fight) You give up on walking them, and either put them down, rehome them and let someone else deal with it, or pretend the issue doesn’t exist by never letting them into a non-contained area.
Example A, outcome 2: you get your dogs attention and reward it for eye contact. You show them where you want them to walk beside you, and reward them for walking there. Your dog now behaves well, and seeks to please you. You can trust your dog to return to your side even off leash, because it knows that being next to you = treats and love.
Example B, outcome 1: your child hit you and you hit them back. Now they never hit anyone, or even provoke them for that matter. They become anxious, fearful, and solitary, going to great lengths to avoid negative interaction (fawn). Someday, someone hits them. Instead of defending themselves, they freeze and allow the abuser to harm them. (Freeze) Either way, they struggle with making themselves heard and keeping themself safe. They become passive, and have trouble handling conflict, instead letting others get their way.
Example B, outcome 2: your child hit you, and you hit them back. They now anticipate that anytime they wish to voice their opinion, they can expect opposition and thus overreact, sometimes violently. This may mean they run at the first sign of conflict (flight) instead of talking it out and finding a resolution. This may mean they immediately escalate at the first sign of conflict (fight), resorting to screaming, cursing, lashing out, and otherwise physically hurting those near to them. Either way, they struggle to maintain healthy relationships with others and handle conflict in a healthy manner.
Example B, outcome 3: you took the time to prevent your child from feeling the need to physically protect themselves, and instead showed them new ways to voice their opinion. More importantly, you took their voice into account and showed them compromise on some issues. Rather than reacting to the problem, you addressed the problem and prevented it from reoccurring. Your child now trusts you, knows that their opinion is heard and valuable, and that there are healthy ways to address conflict. Rather than feeling the need to scream or lash out (fight), run away (flight), pretend the conflict doesn’t exist (freeze) or become hyper vigilant to prevent future conflict (fawn), your child understands that conflict is a part of life and knows that it can be resolved by being proactive instead of reactive.
A huge part of training, teaching, or otherwise conditioning a child or animal is being proactive and not reactive. That means planning ahead, being consistent, and being fair. That means being patient, taking the time to calm yourself before issuing correction, and not immediately reacting inappropriately in an attempt to “nip it in the bud”.
In short, it means taking the time to set your child or pet up for success and making the right thing easy and the wrong thing unlikely.
Thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

Today, this double armful of wrigglers had their first truly alone time since Gwyn's arrival in December. They go into their crates a few times a week while we do chores they can't "help" with, so they know the drill well. But today we left the farm entirely... and we got our covid vaccines! An exciting day for the DOOM Domain.

Hello cat owners out there !
can someone help me ?
I arrived at my parents home today, only to find that in my absence since summer, my cat's fur got terribly matted. It's all stuck up in big clumps of hair. I think he is so old now that he can not clean his fur himself anymore and my parents just didn't notice, so when his winter fur came in ...
Schnurri is a regular short hair cat. I tried brushing, but the clumps won't budge. He seemed to tolerate the brush, but we both have no experience with fur care whatsoever, so he was already nervous about that. I don't know how to get his fur back to normal again, and I don't want to hurt him or stress him out either.. does anyone have experience with this and can share some insights?
thanks so much ! 💗💗

this is gonna sound SO dumb coming from the person who dropped so much on the achromic lion but I was just Perusing other lions just for fun, yknow?
Came across a Bast base, noctis heavy rosette, mottled rosette, mottled stripes, with Draconid eyes and may have made the biggest mistake in wanting him also
I’ll probably keep or sell the achromic for roughly the same amount that I bought him for, if not discounted since hes(potentially) a failed heir.
I’ll keep him otherwise until I’m absolutely certain I’ll king the bast one. BUT
i haven’t obtained him yet. And I’m not certain what he’s worth. I’m guessing he was bred, so thats some damn good luck on that part. They say he was also a failed heir, and are taking offers. someone already offered a Diabolic mane changer, a single.. wing? and an expression with no pure currency. I may not.. get him? But he’s only 3 years old even today.
I got like.. 12 pure currency but have been making solid SB rises because of the event & selling a lotta foods but I’m like. absolutely certain he’s worth a lot more than that.

Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) microfilaria in a fresh blood smear from a young dog recently adopted from a neglectful situation. He was also positive on his Idexx SNAP 4dx, which tests blood for an antigen from adult female heartworms. Fortunately he still looked healthy on clinical exam, so with treatment his prognosis is good.
Our clinic follows the American Heartworm Society treatment protocol:
Heartworms are much easier to prevent than treat! Options include monthly tablets/chews or topicals, or an injection that lasts 12 months. If your dog isn't currently on heartworm prevention, please contact your vet about testing and getting on a prevention plan.

Kidney Disease Screening Hospital in Narasaraopet | Mahathma Gandhi Hospital
Mahathma Gandhi Hospital is one of the best Super specialty hospitals in Narasaraopet where we have accumulated solutions for various health issues with the best professional team for each medical sector. Whether you are struggling with a kidney disorder or seeking a kidney specialist, Mahathma Gandhi hospital is the only solution for your search.
Routine screening tests for the detection of kidney disease
Urine albumin test: Normally kidneys do not filter albumin out of the blood. The presence of protein or excess amounts of albumin in urine indicates poor kidney function. The higher the albumin in the urine, the worse the kidney function
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR):  By checking creatinine levels in the blood sample we can get an estimation of kidneys or filtration rate (glomerular filtration rate). A low filtration rate (low GFR) suggests less efficient kidney function.
Urine Albumin/Creatinine Ratio (UACR): Healthy kidneys filter out chemical waste from the blood like urea, and creatinine into the urine, but no protein is filtered
The ratio of albumin to creatinine in urine gives an estimate of kidney damage.
UACR Less than 30 mg/g is normal and more than 30 mg/g can be a sign of kidney disease.
Your nephrologist will repeat urine tests if albumin is present in the urine sample. The urine test may be repeated one or more times to confirm the results.
Tumblr media
How do I know if my kidney disease is getting worse?
You should be aware of the test results that you do routinely and frequently. Keeping a track of test results helps your nephrologist and you to know whether your kidney disease is stable or getting worse.
Your nephrologist will monitor the following if you have kidney disease:
Blood pressure and blood sugar levels
GFR, creatinine levels
Urine albumin /urine protein levels
Regular follow-up with your nephrologist is essential to manage your kidney disease. If you have any questions regarding kidney disease screening, meet Dr. Srikanth Devarasetty Gone.

PSA for every pet owner: unless your pet needs a certain medication IMMEDIATELY, do NOT buy or refill a prescription directly from the vet. there are a good number of pet pharmacies online (at least in the US and Canada) and the price difference is astronomical. here's an example:
Tumblr media
this is the invoice i got from my vet. now compare that to what i can find at PetMeds:
Tumblr media
15 pills at 15 cents each, equals $2.25. versus THIRTY FOUR DOLLARS.
the vet's office has to approve this prescription anyway for you to receive this order, this isn't some under the table shit. so avoid paying a premium and buy your meds online, especially if it's something the pet has to take for the rest of their life like mine!

Man full offense but so much more than whether or not you can afford "proper" pet care is whether or not your willing to give them the best life you can under the circumstances you're both living lmao
