But he never heard those little clues Hob dropped about how much it hurt to be left every century #after five minutes and how Hob kept enduring this mortifying ordeal of being known because he knew Dream needed to be known too and #Hob hoped that one day after he'd flayed himself & his life again and again and again for Dream's interest that one day Dream would #open up just the tiniest bit & calling him lonely was just trying to wriggle open that door just a crack but Dream would never allow it #the pretty aloof lord as cold as ever and Hob just... left. After five minutes. Meeting done. Bye. Guess you don't need me. And #Dream feels the pain of watching him walk away and knows that Hob was right — and he runs after his human...#Dreamling #I mean this turned into a dreamling thing sorry #Effie Gray was good though #Pretty film #frustrating 1800s stuff

I watched Starship Troopers tonight.

#personal #dumb #my art #immediately after finishing i was pumped to watch some analysis vids on it #cuz i heard a lot of the drama about the original author being a pro military fascist and the director going “fuck that” and making a satir #scrolling through youtube search results was not promising. lots of male film buffs i would Not trust even on a first glance.#“The Critical Drinker” (pfp of a bearded man drinking alcohol) lol.#and then I saw cinemawins did a video on it and was like oh nice i haven't seen his stuff in a while but he's a pretty leftist creator #scrolled through the comments #second panel face #this sucks i'm outta here.#just leagues and leagues and leagues of anime pfps and right leaning people dogpiling on him for “not understanding what fascism is”#idk it's pretty alien and weird to me watching this movie and going “wow yeah that was pretty obvious huh” like literally the from opening #to the teacher preaching militance and only giving voting rights to “those who serve their nation first and earn it”#and then seeing droves of people online going #WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? It's not anti-fascist and even if it was it's #the director's fault for desecrating heinlein's incredible sci-fi epic vision. ermm media literacy is dead.

ngl, I'm beginning to take issue with how in conversations about anti-intellectualism almost automatically, the face of girls and women will be slapped on the problem.

#'all those tiktok girls who only like marvel films and' - why do you always say girls and women? are the guys filling opera halls instead?#'women in their mid 20s who still only read YA novels' okay sure that's an example and relevant discussions can be had #but it reminds me of the mocking tone in which people speak of 'chick-lit' to use women's interest as an indicator of lower value #while in fact women are reading more than men in EVERY single genre of fiction. Women are doing a lot of (often unpaid) labour #supporting libaries supporting theatres supporting cultural events #meanwhile there is a pretty big overlap between toxic masculinity and anti-intellectualism #(especially misogyny and homophobia)#especially when it comes to things like ballet or opera or musical or generally dance #in fact it is often the female investment in specific things that makes them less 'valuable' in general consciousness #for thousands of years the theatre was well-respected and a high form of art - and now it's a 'wife-thing'#the father who will teach his son that theatre and dance are for girls - how is that never an example for anti-intellectualism

The Ken dance is so magnificent because it’s reminiscent of the Golden Age of Musicals when there would just be artful dance sequences for no reason other than the director wanted to have one.

#and in being technically unnecessary becomes one of the best scenes in the movie #barbie #barbie movie #barbie 2023 #just ken #barbie spoilers #barbie movie spoilers #this movie includes so many moments that would technically be unnecessary or could be done so straightforward #like the opening or the barbie commercial #and its so great to see #uniqueness and fun in a film #also I'm pretty sure Ryan Gosling broke at least twice during that scene #which is also rare to see in a film #and unexpectedly fun #twilight-zoned-out
