starting to realize i’ve spent so much of my life longing for and working towards the future and now i struggle to just. live in the present sometimes
#I had to do good in school just to be ready for college#I would lay awake at night longing to be independent and out of my parent’s house#hitting college and suddenly everything is about a career#my major and taking honors courses and research all to get a job in the future#and now I’m about to graduate and I don’t have a Big Thing to work towards#unless I go to graduate school which I’ve been second guessing#did I decide to go to grad school for the right reasons? was it just something new and bigger to work toward?#and realizing how I haven’t let myself be present#I wonder if it’s why I lost contact with my board game group#in part anyway#idk I just struggle to think about Now#it’s always needing to be prepared#I need to figure out housing for next semester#and money to save for a new car#I have to look for jobs for the future#I have to figure out where I’m going after graduation#if there’s any way to get away from my parents#I don’t want to run toward the future all the time#I want to take a break and sit on the porch and relish the Now#idk it’s 2:30 and my brain is being Weird#but I think y’all and D&D have really helped me slow down and take time to appreciate where I am Right Now#nonsensical 2:30 am rambles

So I got tagged in a post game thing by @halfblackwolfdemon (Thank you so much btw) but I don't really know enough people to tag to follow the rules of the game nor do I necessarily feel COMFORTABLE tagging people when I don't really interact with many people here on tumblr, but I thought the game itself was fun so I'm using it as a distraction from my homework and as an excuse to post a line from Part 15 of But I Want to Be Let In, Not Out
So here's the latest line from my WIP of Part 15!
Danyal could still feel their blood caked under his fingernails.
#dpxdc#But I Want to Be Let In; Not Out#Part 15#Here's a fun little sneak preview while I finish out my internship and get ready for the summer semester#Current plan is to have Part 15 out around Mother's Day but we'll see#My internship has been kicking my ASS#I am absolutely being irresponsible by scrolling through tumblr instead of watching my session videos#Watching myself do therapy for hours on end? Not fun#0/10 recommend but like good for future development of my career as a therapist#Still it's nice to take a little break before I get back to the grind#I'm so excited for this installment#Y'all better be prepared for MOMMY ISSUES: THE FIC

to make up for the fact that I'll have to get up for therapy when I'd rather be sleeping, I've decided to just conveniently "forget" the questionnaire thingy at home. As a treat.

No. It makes sense for some exams to be open-book, but not all of them. University isn't supposed to be easy and stress-free, and you're not there to learn how to take notes and look things up - these are the skills you should already have before you enter higher education, and then you naturally get better at them as you attend classes, etc. Some things are stressful, life is stressful, and the best thing you can do is learn how to cope with it.
Also, higher education isn't for everyone, nor should it be, that's fine and normal. If you really hate it, you're better off doing something else for your own good. It doesn't matter if it's because you're not good at studying, not enjoying the world of academia, don't know why you're even there in the first place, or are just plain lazy and would rather watch Netflix than put in any work outside of the classroom.
Imagine future doctors were not expected to learn anything by heart. They'd be pretty much learning on the job. Some disciplines do rely more on e.g. writing papers and less on being able to memorise a lot of information, but you still need to know at least the very basics of your subject. What would be the point of spending three years at university if a 'specialist' knew about as much about their own subject as I would if I just researched it for one day?
This applies to Humanitites too, by the way. If you have a degree in, say, Modern Languages, you're supposed to be able to speak said languages. That requires you to actually sit down and learn them, anybody can use a dictionary and Google Translate, you don't need a degree for that.
#i dont like exams either#but theyre a necessary evil#also university is more about teaching you how to do independent research and preparing you for a potential future career in academia#its not there to teach you basic life skills you could learn anywhere else#if you want something more practical you'd be happier with an apprenticeship#or these special third level institutions that are very practice oriented but i dont know if all countries have them#also open-book exams tend to be harder than normal exams which makes them even more stressful#we had open book exams during covid and they were the hardest exams ive ever taken in my life#and also after covid these were a little easier#but what makes them harder is that you have to be really careful you dont run out of time

Security experts believe that Anonymous Sudan is actually a Russian hacking group aimed at causing trouble in the West. The AO3 admins even wrote on their Twitter that experts believe this group is lying about their affiliation and reasons for attacking AO3, so take everything they claim with a grain of salt.
In addition, they are also demanding a ransom of $30,000 in bitcoin in exchange for stopping the attacks... on a volunteer site for fan-fiction. Thus, while it is also unfortunate for them, it also means that AO3 may not be able to pay the ransom to stop the attacks. Normally, in cases like that, an attacked business would simply pay the ransom to get their business up and going as fast as possible again (and usually it would work), but it doesn’t look like this’ll be the case for AO3.
Thus, all I’ll say is, we may have to be prepared for AO3 to be down for a while. The actors have threatened to keep attacking for “weeks” until the ransom is paid. Best case scenario, the AO3 volunteers manage to fight off the attack before then (or the attackers get tired of attacking, which I doubt), and worst case scenario, they hold to their promise.

Spreading the word because the original post is gone now (screenshots from a post I saw earlier today):
TLDR: ao3 is currently under attack, and you need to stay off the site to give the volunteers a chance to fix things
reblog this as much as you can!!
EDIT:
So it seems that there’s no reason to believe the reasoning behind the attacks coming from the group attacking ao3. I’ve seen countless other sources saying that they’ve lied during other attacks and this is no different
another update: the ao3 social media accounts have started to say that if it’s up for you, you can use it. If it’s not working for you though, you probably should stop reloading your page over and over again. That’s still going to overload their system
SECOND EDIT:
looks like ao3 has just been entirely shut down for now (9:02 pm PST)
#and like. obviously take this with a grain of salt too#but the way it stands#we may have to be prepared for the long haul w/o access#whoo boi#my career as a cyber expert cannot come fast enough#maybe i'll volunteer or something in the near future#anyways#ao3#cybersecurity#ddos

updates as of 22 oct
Travis Dermott knew that he would draw attention with his actions in the Coyotes’ home opener against the Anaheim Ducks at Mullett Arena on Saturday. The Arizona defenseman just hoped that the spotlight might shine on the issue that he was addressing, not on him.
“You don’t really want to go against rules that are put in place by your employer, but there’s some people who took some positive things from it,” Dermott said. “That’s kind of what I’m looking to impact.
“You want to have everyone feel included and that’s something that I have felt passionate about for a long time in my career. It’s not like I just just jumped on this train. It’s something that I’ve felt has been lacking in the hockey community for a while. I feel like we need supporters of a movement like this; to have everyone feel included and really to beat home the idea that hockey is for everyone.”
“I won’t lie,” said Dermott, who is playing on a one-year, two-way contract. “From the outside, it’s easy to see that I’m putting my career on the line for something. I definitely went through some emotional ups and downs that night, not regretting anything by any means, but I’d love to have maybe done a couple of steps a little different by making sure that everyone was aware of what was going on before I did it.
“I don’t want to put my teammates or my coaches or my GMs or the equipment managers in any kind of bad light when it’s their job to kind of look out for something like this happening. It was definitely something that I did just by myself and was prepared to kind of deal with whatever repercussions the league decides to push towards that. I’m not going to back off and say that this battle is won, but we’re going to find better ways to do it.”
As Dermott noted, LGBTQ+ inclusion is an issue that he has supported for a long time. Without getting into specifics, Dermott said the issue is personal for him because it impacts people close to him.
“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t shed tears about this on multiple occasions,” he said. “So yeah, it’s something I’m definitely very passionate about.
“I’ve met a lot of people that from the outside, it looks like they have everything going right in their life and they have a smile on their face every time they talk to you. But sometimes when we get closer to people and get comfortable enough for them to open up to you, you can see that there’s some pretty dark stuff happening to some good people. It doesn’t take too many times encountering something like that for it to really change someone.
“I’ve been blessed to have some of those opportunities put in front of me to really change my view of what being a good person means; what being a good father and a good example and role model means going forward. You really see how people are hurting and it’s because of a system that maybe no one’s intentionally trying to be malicious about, but until you’ve really had that first-person experience seeing people hurting from it right in front of you, it’s tough to kind of take steps.”
It would be a surprise if the league handed down any sort of punishment. The optics alone would add to the public relations damage that the original ban created. Even so, Dermott reiterated his desire to bring the entire franchise into the fold before he takes similar actions in the future, but he also made it clear that he will not be silenced on the topic.
“It’s not like I’m shutting up and going away,” he said. “I know more questions are going to be coming. We’re just going to be as prepared as we can be to just spread love. That’s the thing. It’s gay pride that we’re talking about, but it could be men’s health. It could be any war. It’s just wanting world peace. Everyone’s got to love each other a little bit more.
“Like my parents said growing up, ‘How awesome would it be to be the guy that people look up to?’ That’s what really hit home when I was a kid, especially from my mom. You want to grow up and be that guy. You want to be the guy that’s having the impact on kids like NHL players had on you. If they had been racist or bigoted, that’s going to have an effect on you.
“With how many eyes are on us, especially with the young kids coming up in the new generation, you want to put as much positive love into their brain as you can. You want them to see that it’s not just being taught or coming from maybe their parents at home. They need to see it in the public eye for it to really make an effect.”

My mam said we have to clean the house today (told us yesterday) and that we would start at 12. She immediately proceeded to go out at 12 and said we’d clean the moment we got back. She gets back and now there’s lunch to be made. By the time we get started we’re nearly 2 hours late and the energy and allocated time I had for all my tasks is gone. I will get none of the art I need to get done done today.
#I wanna smash my head into a wall#if one more person talks to me about a task that needs to get done I’m going to smash all the gifts under the tree for fucks sake#I’ve needed to get this art done for weeks (Christmas presents plus relevant for my portfolio) and every weekend when I’m supposed to have#time someone comes up to me saying ‘hey I need you to do this. now.’ and throw a fit when I say I’m busy.#this also ties into the fact that I’m in full time education but everyone was pushing me to do art as a career (I don’t want to but I can#still take it up as a side thing which is what I’m trying to do) and then everyone gets upset at me when I prioritise art for my spare time.#there are 4 people living in this house. 2 I’m full time education (1 with exams and the other (me) preparing for college and a future)#1 is our parent who is working and looking after us to the best of her ability#and the other is my lazy ass brother who works maybe once a week if we’re lucky and refuses to keep a job. he just sits in his room playing#on his computer all fucking day. he’s filling out papers for the dole right now because he needs money and refuses to work

Stand with Alaa: A Family's Fight for Survival
Hello Everyone,
I am Alaa from the war-torn Gaza. I am reaching out to seek your help in taking care of my family amidst the hardships of war. I am a husband and father of two beautiful kids, 3-year old Ayman and 6-year old Maram. My beloved wife, Sahar, is pregnant, and so our family is soon expecting a new member, filling our hearts with joy and concern.
Before the war disrupted our lives, I worked tirelessly as a translator at the public secter and as a freelancer. I took on multiple jobs to ensure my children had everything they desired. I was proud of my achievements both in my career and as a father. However, when the war began, everything changed.
A year ago, we were forced to leave our home in search of safety, leaving behind not only our belongings but also the stability we once knew. We lost everything—our clothes, mattresses, and my laptops. With my job gone and limited access to the internet, I’ve been unable to continue my freelance work.
Now, I find myself in a desperate situation. The cost of living has skyrocketed due to the ongoing blockade, making it impossible for me to afford even the most basic necessities for my children. Simple things like winter clothes and mattresses have become luxuries we can’t afford.
As we prepare to welcome our new baby, I feel an overwhelming sense of worry. I cannot provide for this little one as I wish to—I can’t buy a cradle, baby clothes, or even diapers. The price of a single bag of diapers is around $70—ten times what it should be. Additionally, Sahar needs essential nutrients and vitamins to ensure her health and the health of our baby.
As a father, my heart aches for my children. I worry constantly about their safety and future amid this relentless turmoil. If you can find it in your heart to help us during this difficult time, I would be eternally grateful. Your support could make a profound difference in our lives and help me provide for my family.
✅️ My campaign is vetted by @gazavetters, my number verified on the list is ( #252 ) ✅️
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your kindness means the world to us.
Warm regards,
Alaa
