It marked the Americans’ eighth-straight win in all competitions. The Americans were held at bay in the first half with Smith being denied on…

Australia’s Opals def China in pre-Olympic Games warm-up match, score, stats, news
Australia’s Opals have sent a brilliant pre-Olympic Games message, smashing fellow powerhouse China 94-66 in Melbourne. The Chinese, ranked No.2 in the world, came in at full strength with the Aussies missing their top WNBA talents like Ezi Magbegor. Yet the Opals upset the visitors after dominating from the opening minutes, in the first of two warm-up games as they prepare to finalise their…

I think I remember seeing somewhere that the US only bids for preolympic worlds because the federation viewed those as the *important* ones? So like only bidding 1/3 of the time naturally diminishes their chances to get to host a worlds?
that makes sense
now can someone explain to me what makes for a competitive bid? cuz i feel like/i would assume that given the attendance stupid shit like the american cup gets, the US hosting worlds would be a huge draw and therefore a no-brainer decision? so like... do they just not bid? why dont they get it every time? what are the reasons for NOT bidding, like what costs are associated that wouldnt be counterbalanced pretty easily later on?
(for the purpose of these questions, please imagine this is like pre-2016 and USAG isnt a notoriously evil embarrassment throughout the entire international olympic sports community lol)

This may be a silly question. But I'm a recent follower of woso (preolympics only). So i didnt understand the issue with Denmark not qualifying for the WC because they forfeited the first round match against Sweden.
So a forfeit counts as a 3-0 loss right. And then they lost the reverse fixture to Sweden. Why didn't they get into the playoffs for qualification? And wouldn't Sweden have beaten them anyways in the forfeited match? But all reports state that Denmark didn't make it only because of the forfeit.
Yeah, it's an issue with the reporting, they're just really trying to sell the story. The truth is we don't know what could've happened because they only lost the other game 1-0 but even if they'd won the forfeited one, they'd still be below Sweden because they drew another game. So a few things had to happen in another way for them to top the group, mostly it was just unlucky drawing Sweden.
And they did get into the play-offs! But there they met the Netherlands (you know, eventual SILVER medalists in that world cup) so they couldn't go to the World Cup.
