people on twitter blaming f/d's skam withdrawal on usfs is hilarious like usfs basically never pulls spots and they were clearly planning on f/d being here (they have them in their press release!)
am i mad i have to watch m/c instead? of course. I don't think they're a great team and are getting by on a lot of name recognition. But people need to be concentrating their energy on hoping bella and vanya are doing well because there's not a lot of reasons they would wd this close to the event.
#figure skating#ice dance#skate america 2024#literally ugh though#i don't like morozov/chen lol#between them and davis/smolkin#i shall not have a good time

Updated 100 Memorable Skating Programs
Back in 2018, I created the original version of this list. (You can find the master post here.) Since 2024 marks my 30th year as an official fan of figure skating and there have been some more great programs created since the last time, I thought it was about time to update the list in honor of World Ice Skating Day. Same rules apply as last time:
Only senior competitive programs starting from the 1993-1994 season are eligible, since that's the first season I really started watching figure skating.
Each skater may only be listed once, unless a partner/discipline switch is involved.
Choice of music may also not be repeated. (Yes, there are two James Bond programs on the list, but Yuna and Wakaba use different music for the most part, so I'm letting it slide.)
I debated long and hard about whether or not I should still include programs from skaters who have proven themselves to be not so great people. I'm someone who has little difficulty separating the art from the artist, so in the end, I decided to keep them listed (although most of them got knocked down a few pegs). This list is more about the choreography than the skater anyway, although there are certainly some problematic choreographers out there, too. (Looking at you especially, Morozov!) So, just because a skater is listed doesn't mean that I'm a fan of them or that I condone their actions! I just think certain programs are still great regardless of the skaters' terrible behavior off the ice.
Choreographers are noted if known. If you know who choreographed the programs without a choreographer named, please let me know!
I've also created a handy playlist on YouTube if you don't want to click on all these links.

What's going on?
A lot has been uncovered in the last 48 hours and there are numerous statements released - many being unkind, speculative, and a small number, untrue. This is a rundown on what has been publicly announced and discovered.
THE DEVELOPING STORY
16 Oct - ISU announces Skate America entries. Bella and Ivan have been replaced by Morozov/Chen.
17 Oct - Bella announces their withdrawal from Skate America (x).
19 Oct - Ivan was issued a temporary suspension from US Figure Skating (found here) due to allegations of misconduct (sexual misconduct).
20 Oct - Uncovered public records show that Bella and Ivan have been married as of 12 August 2022. Notable to include that fellow rinkmates Neset/Markelov and Yi/Savilev in WASA Ice Dance were all discovered to be legally married, with only the former being of public information.
6 Nov - Solene Mazingue has publicly come out and named Ivan as her aggressor.
16 Nov - She also announced the end of her partnership with Marko Jevgeni Gaidajenko.
19 Nov - Bella speaks up about the incident and officially announces her return to social media.
WHAT'S NEXT
Investigations are ongoing and we will let justice take its course.
The newly discovered details are troubling, undoubtedly. I can only hope that all parties involved are safe, healing, and getting any help and support they need. What upsets me the most is the power imbalance and the potential for major abuse to arise due to this. While no one has come out to report any wrongdoing, some of the new information should hopefully stir up more proactive action to protect those who are vulnerable in this sport.
UPDATE: The details from Solene's account are immensely distressing and I am again enraged by the lack of action taken by people of authority in the figure skating community towards something so severe and damaging.
Please remember to be kind and always fact-check statements online.

Since we’re talking about rankings: there is another list called the seasons best. That list and the rankings determine the GP spots. The dancers on both the lists get 2. The top placers at worlds are also guaranteed 2 but those usually end up being the same. Then the dancers that place in the top 24 on one of the lists are guaranteed one spot. Junior worlds podiums are usually guaranteed one spot. N/M got two because all the other US dancers could get 2 on their own so USFS basically gave NM their 2nd assignment as a host spot. But it is absolutely imperative that B/V get a really good score at either SKAM or Zagreb (if they even go there) to get a spot for next year ESPECIALLY because there will be added juniors and no retirements. I’m hoping a team like Pate/Bye only end up with one while B/V get one. And then Morozov/Chen with the host and Katarina with a Junior podium spot.
Seriously thank you for sending this! I really appreciate everyone that weighs in here with their knowledge xx

Worlds Predictions
These were hard to make and feel free to let me know how wrong I am, but here goes nothing.
Men
1. Yuzuru
2. Nathan
3. Mikhail or Shoma (I keep going back and forth on these two)
(Also Yuzuru and Nathan could easily be switched)
Ladies
1. Anna
2. Sasha (This was tough cause I have no faith in her landing her jumps, but if she does she will do well)
3. Rika
Dance
1. Sinitsina/Katsalapov
2. Chock/Bates
3. Stepanova/Bukin
(I have Hubbell/Donohue fourth but I could definitely see them making their way onto the podium)
Pairs
1. Sui/Han
2. Tarasova/Morozov (This may be wishful thinking, but I’m T/M fan, I know most people don’t agree with me)
3. Mishina/Galliamov (But also Peng/Jin. But also Boikova/Kozlovskii. This was a tough one)
