Stoneman Douglas Strong
Please pray for my home of Coral Springs and Parkland ... the tragedy that has happened today is so scary. You don't think it could ever happen to you or near you but when you're frantically trying to call your friends making sure they are safe and then watching their Snapchat stories and hearing from them talk about their peers, classmates and teachers dead in the hallways that they had to walk past just to get out of the hell that they were in. My city and friends will never be the same. As I write this the death toll is up to 17, now worse than columbine... something needs to change in the US because this can't keep happening. I don't know the official names of those who have died yet but I'm sure once those names are released I'm going to recognize quite a few of them... I'm scared to go to school tomorrow I'm afraid for my friends because they'll never forget what happened to them today.... and most of all I'm so so sad for the parents who have to now plan their children's funerals and for the families of the teachers killed... please don't forget what happened here today. Please pray

For those of you not from Parkland, I’d like to take a moment of your time to give you a brief synopsis. Parkland is that town on the map that nobody knew about. When asked, we would say it’s northwest of Fort Lauderdale. Growing up, we all went to the same elementary schools; either Park Trails or Riverglades depending on the side of Parkland you lived on. Then, we all went to the same middle school, Westglades. After three years there, we were more than thrilled to finally join the “big kids” at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
The reason I’m explaining this evolution is because Parkland is not your typical town. We all grew up together, went to the same schools our whole childhood, played on the same sports teams, went to the same summer camps, and even helped raised each other. Parkland gave me my best friends. It gave me my second families. Not to say it didn’t have its faults, but it was our home. Our teachers were more than just teachers. They gave a shit about our wellbeing and our futures. They truly wanted us to feel like a family. The laundry list of things we've learned about life in general while attending MSD would have you reading this for the next 72 hours so I’ll just leave it at this: this school taught us to constantly strive to be the best versions of ourselves and that somebody has our backs.
I am not the most politically involved individual but I must say, regardless of political views, something needs to change. I believe that a person has the right to own a gun. Although, gun control needs to be emphasized over and over again. I understand that if an evil person wants to engage in a heinous act involving a gun, they’ll most likely find a way to obtain one regardless of what laws are put in place. However, gun control laws can make it possible for law enforcement to stop that evil person before something horrific happens. Whether this be more in depth background checks, permits to purchase guns, or red flags going off for individuals with history of mental illness. I really don't know. I do not know how to fix this. I do not have the answers nor do I even know where to begin. All I know is that things need to change.
I am so beyond thankful for the safety of those that survived this awful tragedy and my heart goes out to those that directly or indirectly lost a loved one. This isn’t supposed to happen. This is Parkland.
Samantha Gordon, MSD Class of 2013.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Florida has left me sad, scared and furious.
As I was watching the news on TV, I was overcome with emotion. I became sad, and I cried. At first, my eyes were only slightly watery. You know that burning sensation you get when you’re upset but you’re scared to cry? Yeah, I felt that, too. Then my eyes swelled up, leaving me with full-on, massive tear drops rolling down my cheeks. I felt like a baby. A big, 17-year-old baby crying about people (around my age) being scared for their lives, shot, and injured or killed.
Then I became scared. Students are constantly under attack, I thought. We will never be safe. Students in American high schools are just sitting ducks, waiting to be destroyed, or farm animals waiting to be sent to the slaughterhouse. (I get it, these are pretty clichéd metaphors. But you get the point.) Which school is going to be next? WHY IS NO ONE DOING ANYTHING? And by no one, I mean the government.
Then I became angry. Really angry. I shouldn’t have to think about this. No one should have to think about this. The only thing students should be scared of when they go to school is failing a class or getting a horrible grade. Even then, they shouldn’t think too much about that.
It is unjust and stupid that laws have not been passed to prevent tragic events like this from happening ever again. When they leave for school in the morning, no student or teacher/faculty member should have to worry about whether they’ll return alive or in a body bag. No child should suffer from PTSD after he/she watches their classmates get gunned down. No parent should face dread upon hearing that a shooting has occurred at their son or daughter’s school. No one—American or not—should see the news alerts of yet another school shooting in the US.
It is time for a change—it has been for years. Prayers are good, and always welcome, but they won’t change anything. So, who/what will? We need to decide.

This sickens me.
America needs to do something to prevent any kind of shootings - mall shootings, airport shootings, school shootings.
Please report anyone who posts or talks about doing any violence - especially if they own a gun! Don’t ignore the warning signs!
I’ll be praying for the victims and parents of this horrible event.

Since 9-11 it seems that there has been a an exaggerated blood lust in the eyes of Americans. We Americans have abandoned our humanity to a certain extent. We can condone the deaths of innocents overseas as collateral damage, but we mourn when innocents die on our own soil at hands of one of our own. I'm sorry, but I know with everything in me we can't have it both ways, because a human life is a human life regardless of where that person resides. Until we return to our humanity we're going to Las Vegas happen again. Until we raise are collective intellect and choose what is right, over what is wrong, we are going to see Sandy Hook happen again. I know we don't want to see another Parkland, so what are we willing to do to prevent this from happening again? As for myself I'm running the race back to my humanity, do you care to join me? Please stand for humanity, or we will witness ourselves slowly devolve into the animals we have fought so hard not to become. We can do better than this. We will do better than this. - - #prayforparkland#browardlove #pray #parkland #douglas#coralsprings #parklandshooting #palmbeach#deerfieldbeach #douglas #miamilakes#northpalmbeach #jupiter #southflorida #soflo#weston #southwestranches #westbroward#pray4broward #lovenothate (at Camden County, New Jersey)

#flyeaglesfly #prayingfordouglas #prayforparkland As someone who is an Alumni of Coral Glades High School I used to be a part of the Drama troupe all four years of my high school career. I had shows at this school. Walked the halls, been in the auditions and have met some amazing people who go to this school. It pains me that something so sinister is going down in history as the second deadliest school shooting following Columbine 19 years ago. Is this what this nation needs to turn into? Do we need to have a new hit show talking about the top five deadliest school massacres?? One should have been one too many. What are we going to do about this??There are many other schools in very close proximity to Douglas. Will we have to wait till something happens to do something about it? This could have turned into something much bigger. I have two sister who go to a school not to far from where this incident took place. I work at a school not too far from that either. This could have been a simple hop onto a major highway and all of this could have been much much worse. I thank God for putting his hedge of protection over my sisters and I and all of those who have made it out alive from this terrible tragedy. I pray for the fallen and know that your angel wings will be the prettiest out there. Stay strong Eagles and fly high 🦅 Jaguars and now an owl 🦉 are with you #hoothoot #jaguars

#FastRepost from @memoryofangels by @fastrepost_app ••• Carmen Schentrup, 2017 National Merit Scholar semifinalist, was confirmed deceased this morning by several friends on social media. Carmen’s death was reported by family members and friends on social media. Her cousin, Matt Brandow, called her "the smartest and most intelligible 16-year-old I've ever met." According to the Broward County Public School system, Schentrup was a 2017 National Merit Scholar semifinalist. Prayers are sent to all who were involved. Rest peacefully... ✨ #MemoryofAngels #moateens #restinpeace #rip #gonetoosoon #stopgunviolence #gunviolenceawareness #gunviolenceprevention #schoolshooting #CarmenSchentrup #florida #floridahighschoolshooting #stonemandouglas #staystrong #staystrongflorida #prayforparkland #parklandshooting @clarkgregg #ShieldSuperfan @supreme._.leader died not knowing her NMSQT Status. It was announced a few days later it had been awarded to her. Such senseless loss and on the 10 year anniversary of the No Il Univ shootings, perpetrated by one of my alumni at Elk Grove HS in Elk Grove Vlg IL, but seldom discussed bc the shooter killed "only 5 people". #NeverAgainMSD (at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School)

🧡 PLEASE SHARE OR REPOST 🧡 As the students of #MSD return back to school today - this rainbow 🌈 appeared over the school. It shows that our Love and Light is spreading along with the voices that are ready to make sure that #neveragain does this happen. 🧡 You can watch Fred, Jamie’s dad, (the second photo) here https://youtu.be/JY6rVoQl0Qw 🧡 We need gun control and we need to demand #amazon @amazon and #apple @apple to #BoycottNRA. My cousin #jamieguttenberg and all those other lives that were lost will be heard- by making our voices louder. #Congress, We as the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, grandparents, friends, neighbors, colleagues and most of all US Citizens, demand action to put the value of our lives over that of the gun lobby, NRA. We are who you stand there for- so stand up now - like all of those #MSD students who have done more work in 9 days that you guys can in years. #msdstrong #prayforparkland
