i understand the whole “joost’s sudden popularity is so weird and wild to watch as a dutch person” perspective but its also kinda wacky from my perspective in the sense that im not a dutch person, but i became interested in the netherlands pre joost. however i am still looking at the netherlands from an outsider perspective, so its like when i look up his lyrics i understand some references he makes to his dutch upbringing but obviously not all. even then i have had experience with suddenly having an interest in a country and because its the netherlands im almost going. been there. done that. but i see you
#like i understand im an outlier in most cases involving internationals and the netherlands#but like my friend was saying all her coworkers talk about him#like in my case my coworkers know i like the netherlands#but in her case it’s really a case of he is that popular#and its so interesting bc his music is very dutch?? like his song guus meeuwis directly references per spoor#florida 2009 references ddwd#and every time i look up his lyrics in english theres twenty footnotes#just explaining shit#since its happed twice now with käärijä AND joost im inclined to say i want a deep dive#joost klein#joost#käärijä#käärijä effect#the netherlands#dutchblr

[Image description: A digital drawing of a shot from the film La semana del asesino. It shows three hands holding a pair of binoculars. The hands belong to the characters Marcos and Néstor, although it is unclear which hand belongs to who, as they are indiscernible from one another in size and colour. One hand cups the bottom, and two hold onto either side. You can see the beginning of both of their shoulders, with Marcos' shoulder on the right and Néstor's on the left. There is a vague suggestion of a room in the background, with panelling and curtains. The lineart is a dark blue, and has very pronounced shadows. The colours for each element do not have any shading or lighting outside of this, except for the gleam on the binoculars. The colour scheme is desaturated and cold, mostly comprising of blues with small sections of yellows or even orange (for the binoculars' strap).]

#inktober#inktober 2024#la semana del asesino#la semana del asesino fanart#the week of the killer#the week of the killer fanart#marcos la semana del asesino fanart#néstor la semana del asesino fanart#digital art#im using the spanish title cos i used this director (albiet his 80s films primarily) for my spanish alevel irp so like#i just think it sounds better haha#also the week of the killer is still good but the more popular english title of the cannibal man is such a bad name for the film#only really one cannibal moment and even then thats tenuous#anyway tangent aside#great film great atmosphere#its quite gay (in the sense that concealed homosexuality may send u on a killing spree)#which is quite impressive considering the time and censorship it was made under#also it has pretty neat sfx stuff (very 70s) which i like :)#this shot and scene is 💛💛💛#also i know which hand belongs to who but i thought the close-up kinda conceals that which is nice <3#song of the day is pictures of you by oingo boingo#my favourite band but i feel like ive already said this b4#so obviously i think its a banging song

Muser questions: #17?
17. Dan or Morgan?
Honestly, Morgan. Dan's the one I've properly seen live, just because I was so far at the back during the last (ST) tour that I could barely tell who was who in the band, and really, they were only distinguishable from 1) Matt's ridiculous LED sunglasses and 2) the fact that Dom was in fact, behind a drum kit :P And Morgan prefers to stay in the background anyway, so I barely saw him. :/
Dan obviously lets Muse be the star of their own show too, but I think you feel his presence more on stage? And he also had a lovely moment at a Muse show where he proposed to his partner! And that's always going to be a part of the Muse family history, which is super sweet.
I can't say that musically Dan is a better or worse fit with Muse than Morgan, because he does what he does well, and iirc he also helped with mixing Won't Stand Down and the band were quite happy with that (separate discussion about what fans thought of those BMTH-like verses, but it sounds like that's what the band wanted in the first place), so I reckon he's got what Muse need.
But I think it's just the history and tradition that make me pick Morgan! How many other people are responsible for my knee-jerk reaction to any time anyone mentions any sort of shaking percussion instrument:
[ID: "'It's not a shaker, it's a cabasa!' —Morgan Nicholls speaks out against fan ignorance", a classic taken from the Muse message boards]
If Morgan decides he does want to tour with Muse again, I'll miss Dan but be really happy to see Morgan again. I hope he isn't fully done with Muse, he was in the crowd at the final London shows of the tour!
Also, I'm just a fan of Senseless Things, what can I tell ya :)

#muse#muse band#muse asks!#Down to the nitty gritties asks#if anyone wants them again I'm happy to find you that post#your ask belongs to me now#Morgan Nicholls#if anyone's new to this part of band lore‚ Senseless Things was Morgan's band in the 90s— that's him on bass!#Muse were big fans of those 90s English punky bands like Senseless Things and Mega City Four as teens#so they were thrilled when they were able to get Morgan to play with them in 2004 and then it just became a permanent thing.#They also attended the 2017 reunion shows Senseless Things did#and sent their condolences when Mark Keds died a few years ago#Senseless Things#90s music#music#musicians#Senseless Things FYI were also pretty popular! As you can see from the vid ^ above they were a charting band; did TOTP; opened for Blur#Had a ton of singles success. Also Mark Keds co-wrote The Libertines' Can't Stand Me Now which is a smashing song

me when the song mentions retribution and love (i can twist it into LOVE) and time repeating and then i can reach for the song to be about dust. me when the song mentions a dependence on others and wanting to get rid of emotions and manipulation and then i can pretend the song was made for killer. me when the song mentions food themes and rebellion and cooperation in a bad world and i can delude myself into believing the song was for horror. me if making everything about the murder time trio was a competition
#me if the song has any sort of terrible mentions in it#looking at you haikei and menheramen. yeah you two. suicide and everything bad in the world are two topics unfitting of your bangerness#even if the song has the most OUTRAGEOUSLY uncharacteristic lyrics if it mentions friendship its immediately about the trio#i've only heard one song with three singers and you know i had to make it about the murder time trio. noroino neurose my goat ‼️‼️‼️#everytime i wanna talk about what songs i think fit the trio i just sit snd ponder#because i listen to literally only vocaloid so like. nobody's gonna care if its not in english ‼️‼️‼️#what yall know about pepoyo ‼️ what yall know about LonePi ‼️ what yall know about maretu ‼️#i consider myself a maretu og. i was there when he first got popular with animation memes and i have not left since#maaaa umameru nai was shinde itandakanda aaaraaaaaaaa#someone needs to do iyaiyayo with killer and its not gonna be me#i've already learned my lesson with the heavenly you animatic. which is it takes too much time snd effort#or maybe i just overworked myself on that animation and pushed myself too far out of my comfort zone#but hey once i have a negative impression of things i'll never dare do it again!#i can just IMAGINE the animatics whenever i listen to these songs though#x-x is a new one but they only started posting last year. so i'll have to wait for them to cook more#ah dont think i'll just smile and forgive you for everything. the finger behind the smile#DUSY!!!! THAG LINE IS SO DUSTCODED!!!! DUST!!!! DUSTS AND I LOV YO#tricule rant

okay first of all was anyone going to tell me that ac/dc is an australian band. and second of all was anyone else going to tell me that they're apparently colloquially referred to as "acca dacca" in australia
#i knew about some general australian slang like maccas and utes and blueys but it never occurred to me that ac/dc would have one too#mostly because i just assumed they were english like so many classic rock bands i know.#ALSO APPARENTLY THE WIGGLES ARE AUSTRALIAN TOO I SAW ON THE NEW DEFUNCTLAND TODAY#i never watched the show as a kid i just vaguely was aware of some of their more popular songs#its so so fucked up to me genuinely how much accents tend to just Disappear when you sing. like where'd they go lol#anyway i was gonna say#i need to go back and do my music autism analysis shit for the rock songs i grew up hearing#i was telling latimer a lot of classic rock music feels like. like its Default Music to me somehow#like oh yeah jukebox hero we all know jukebox hero of course. whats that latimer? oh. youve never even heard of Any foreigner song. huh#so i need to like. go through all the music from my childhood. im in my childhood trauma reclaiming era anyway like i might as well#i want classic rock to go from being my 'childhood music' into my 'scavengerverse (oc) music'#like how styx and disney songs are my 'neopets ocs music' from when i was 12and AJR is my 'webcomic dev music'#god i want to be so autistic about music right now but im so sleepy tired. fuck my stupid baka life

Songs when they're mainly sung in english but right in the middle they hit you with their native language and it fucks so hard
#i love songs that do this sm#code switching in songs is literally peak#it will never fail to make me happy hearing an artist that mainly sings in english decides to insert their native language#prob lame example but most popular i can think of is telepatia#a very very indie example is a song called Dopamine by a Finnish artist

Objectively very funny to me that I started listening to stray kids with absolutely zero knowledge they had 2 Australians in the group, literally just saw a mutual post one of their songs and listened to it and was like "Oh that was so fun!" And then for the next month I was listening to some of their songs on and off and it wasn't until I heard Muddy Water that I went on my twitter like "Hoh, this guy really sounds Australian" and immediately, and I mean *immediately* 2 people were on my post like THERE ARE 2 AUSSIES IN THE GROUP JESSIE. YOURE FUCKIN AUSTRALIAN, HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW? and I was just 🧍♀️
#i think muddy water was the first heavily english song the playlist threw at me so i did technically clock the accent as soon as i heard it#i just hadnt heard it yet#and instead of googling stray kids and finding out i instead tweeted it and made my self look like a right fuckin dink#also i havent paid attention to popular media for like 5 yrs </3#was really funny tho people just appeared and started linking felix deep voice tiktoks#and the Aussie line comp vid and that was the beginning of the end bc i was so thoroughly charmed
