Pontiac Banshee XP-798 Concept, 1966. A proposal created under John Z DeLorean for a Pontiac to compete with Ford's Mustang. It was powered by Pontiac's 421ci V8. Access was again by roof panels that rose as the door pivoted outwards. General Motors had other ideas and Pontiac's Mustang competitor was shared with Chevrolet, in the form of the Firebird.

1971 Pontiac Pegasus prototype
This concept was originally intended to improve on the 1970 F-Body design. The first drawings were created by a Chevy stylist and the car was modeled in clay. When GM Design Chief Bill Mitchell saw the results, he took the design over to Pontiac to have them build a running concept car. Pontiac engineers installed a Ferrari V-12 from a 365 GTB along with a Ferrari 5-speed trans. The car was never shown to the public, but upon Bill Mitchell's retirement, he struck a deal to take this car home with him. Considering Mitchell's long tenure at GM, and the hundreds of concepts and prototypes he was in control of, he must have truly loved this car as it was the only one he decided to keep. The Pegasus is currently on display at the GM Heritage Center.

Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Type K, 1977. The original Firebird Type K was done in 1977 under the direction of GM executive designer David Holls. The first Type K (for Kammback) prototypes were built from fiberglass. However GM's Design VP met with Italian coach builder Pininfarina and arranged to have two metal-bodied Type K’s constructed for show purposes. In late 1977, Pininfarina delivered the twin wagons - a silver one with a red interior and a gold one with natural beige interior. These were 1978 cars, but later converted to look like 1979-80 models.

Pontiac Bonneville Limited Sedan Concept
What if... Pontiac was still in production and made a mid-luxury series with the old names. In this scenario, the Bonneville would be the full sized sedan in the series with an estate version as well. This series would be oriented more for comfort than performance, and to keep up with the industry, would feature a V6 hybrid platform with all wheel drive option.
