This is the Ponce City Market area, 1930s and today.
The changes are dramatic but you can see the main PCM building (which was a Sears building) and the Ford Factory Lofts (which was an assembly plant) in the old photo.
You can also see the Atlanta Crackers baseball field, called Spiller Field, in the lower right. Today that's the Midtown Place shopping center.
To my eyes, the biggest change is in the land-use in the upper left, where acres and acres of surface parking used to sit. Now it's apartments and the Historic Fourth Ward Park. BTW, the magnolia tree that stood in the outfield of Spiller Field still stands, behind the Midtown Place shopping center. It's called the Babe Ruth Home Run Tree.
The first image is where it is located now (there's a plaque in front of it) and the second is what it looked like on the field back in the day. Supposedly, Ruth hit a home run ball through the leaves of the tree. More info: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/spiller-field-magnolia-trees

Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Proposal At Ponce City Market
This week’s post is a very special one. I was contacted by Collin who was going to propose to his girlfriend Taylor. He wanted to surprise her and propose to her at Ponce City Market. As an Atlanta wedding photographer it is such an honor to photograph special moments like this.
When you are setting up a surprise proposal there is a lot of planning but at the same time you have to be flexible in the moment. We made time in the evening to plan the proposal. He said he had a reservation for 7pm at 9 Mile Station.
If you are not familiar with 9 Mile Station it is located on the top floor of Ponce City Market. It is a sleek indoor-outdoor space with sweeping unobstructed views of Atlanta. They serve craft beers and American classic foods. It is a great place to have a date and watch the sunset. I want to give a shout out to Neek Miller, the Sales & Special Events Manager at Slater Hospitality the Company that Owns 9 Mile Station and other event spaces around Ponce Ciity Market. She was a consummate professional in every sense of the word, providing insight to proposals protocols and engagement photography rules at Ponce City Market and was so supportive throughout!
The proposal was set for Tuesday afternoon at 6. Collin was going to propose to Taylor in the small park located by the Ponce City Market entrance. I arrived early and scoped out places to hide from them when he proposed. Collin was texting me his ETA. He was running a little late because of Atlanta traffic. At around 6:30 he texted me that he was parking the car and would be up soon.
I hid by the truck in the park and kept looking at the stairs from the parking deck for their arrival. It was so exciting! I spotted them as they came up the stairs. They walked to the middle of the park and started chatting. I snuck around to the side of the deck entrance and started taking pictures. Taylor did not notice me at all. Then suddenly Collin dropped down on one knee. I could see the surprise in her face. She said yes and he got up and placed the ring on Taylor’s finger. It was such a beautiful moment between two people getting ready to start a life together. I gave them a few moments and came out and said “congratulations!” Taylor turned around totally surprised that a photographer was there to capture that moment.
We chatted for a few minutes and took a few more photos by Ponce City Market. We then went to the 6th Ward Park across the street. Once done there it was time for their dinner reservation. We walked back to Ponce City Market. They both had a certain joyful glow about them. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
There are many great places to propose in Atlanta. Here are a few ideas:
There are many Atlanta Skylines to propose at and Ponce City Market is one of them, it's the perfect place to pop the question.
There is the beltway next to Ponce City Market where you get a great view of the city and neighborhood
No matter what you choose, make sure to plan your proposal carefully and make it a special moment for your partner.
Here are some tips for planning a successful proposal in Atlanta:
Choose a location that is special to you and your partner. This could be a place where you first met, where you had your first date, or where you have shared many happy memories together.
Make sure the location is well-lit and has a good view. This will make it easier for you to get down on one knee and ask your partner to marry you.
If possible, try to have a photographer or videographer present to capture the moment. This will allow you to cherish the memory of your proposal for years to come.
Most importantly, be yourself and make the proposal genuine. Your partner will appreciate the thought and effort you put into it, and it will make the moment even more special.
Thanks for checking out this Atlanta wedding photographers blog! I hope you enjoyed the read and that you find ways to make your proposal unique and special! Top Engagement Photo Spots in Atlanta
Top Engagement Photo Spots in Atlanta
When it comes to choosing a place for engagement photos there truly are endless options! Though so often I see people focusing solely on the end product, how majestic, sentimental or picturesque they want to look in the final photographs. And while yes we want the photos to be beautiful I think it’s valuable to choose a place that you feel comfortable in or connect with so that when you do look…

The beautiful Peachtree Arcade stretched from Peachtree to Broad Street in Downtown Atlanta, just south of Marietta Street. It was completed in 1918 and demolished in the 1960s. The last image shows what stands now in the spot.
It was more than just a mall. It served as a kind of civic space as well, with events and performances.
What's our Peachtree Arcade today? I'm guessing Ponce City Market combined with the Eastside Beltline.

MARTA infill stations are announced
Big news from Atlanta Business Chronicle: Mayor Dickens says the locations for the four new MARTA infill stations are:
Krog Street-Hulsey Yard
Joseph E. Boone Boulevard
Murphy Crossing
Armour Yards
This is regarding the major announcement at the recent State of the City address, from Dickens, that four locations would be chosen for new infill stations.
Congratulations to snekposts on Twitter for correctly guessing where the infill stations would go. That's impressive.
Also, Dickens says a new Bus Rapid Transit line will connect the Bowen Homes redevelopment on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to Ponce City Market, likely on North Avenue (judging from previous proposals). Hopefully more details on that BRT line are coming soon.
And as exciting as all of this is, the story of where the money came from needs to be told at some point. It's strange that we had to go through a SPLOST process to raise money with a sales tax for transit; then the transit project list got whittled down because there wasn't enough money to fund everything; and now suddenly there's money for infill stations. It's curious.

The new Pottery Barn at Ponce City Market, at the bottom of an equally new mass-timber office building.
Mass timber is reportedly a sustainable more building material than other types, with a low carbon footprint. This was built with Georgia grown timber, so I assume shipping was lower carbon anyway.

I live Atlanta. I've gone to different yoga, pilates, and Barre classes based on ClassPass, Groupon, etc. Her Atlanta yoga saga never made any sense. The timeline presented makes it impossible for her to have been in Atlanta long enough to get her certification much less have gone unrecognized. They stayed in the house the entire year? Alrighty then.
I’m glad someone from Georgia understands my frustrations with this yoga saga 😂 I guess when you’re from Georgia/Atlanta you see things differently.
I just find the “living in Buckhead” and going to Ponce City Market for yoga, when there’s the same company’s studio in Buckhead weird. But okay.
