I've been so lucky because I went to a book store and randomly found a book with a cool cover and turned out to be book 8 in a series that has so far been my favorite thing I've ever read!!!!!! Please read the polity series by Neal Asher and talk to me about them because they aren't very popular but they should be!!!!! If you like sci Fi and you like creatures and you like books then it's perfect for you!!!!!

Sometimes I think about how, in his 2001 début novel Gridlinked, Neal Asher introduced his main character by having him do some sci-fi 007-type shit, then immediately nerfed him by taking away his titular gridlink. The abrupt and unyielding declination brings to mind the protagonist of a video game being stripped of all items and powers at the start of the sequel, but without the preceding context.
