For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T

At this point, I'm sure avid blog readers are well aware that I'm writing these posts without much of a musically-inclined background. My perspective as a writer is that of a die-hard fan with an emotional attachment to the SiIvaGunner channel, as opposed to someone with a clear understanding of how these rips are made, the compositional techniques and methods of arrangement employed to make things sound as good as they do. But whilst I don't have *much* in the way of a music background, I do actually have *some*: during almost all of my teenage years, I played the trombone, both with private lessons and as part of a small-scale group of fellow students performing together under a teacher's direction. It was a lot of fun, and is something I do look back on fondly from time to time, yet...also something I've never quite known if I ought to continue pursuing. I never had much proficiency for reading sheet music, I was completely unable to play by ear, and just generally found it all a bit too difficult by the end of things. But even with those insecurities and doubts, the experience did also give me something genuinely valuable - a newfound appreciation for the live sound, the magic of hearing instruments played live, and the joy of the performance of legendary pieces of from so many years past. And its all that affection and nostalgia that's kept me returning to rips like For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T, even long past my days of playing brass on my own.

I'll come out and say it, unabashedly, that my affection for this rip is thus almost entirely rooted in nostalgia. As part of our little symphony piece, we got to play everything from Beethoven to pop culture anthems like the Star Wars opening crawl, and sitting right in the middle of all those picks was Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke, which was one of the most fun experiences I had in playing with that group. It's hard to not have a smile on your face when it comes to jazz music, granted: Be it Kass' Theme, Super Wonderful World, Because I Love You, and so many more, I've made it pretty abundantly clear that the beauty in jazz, in live performed instruments of any kind, is not something that's lost on me. Yet with For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T, it's at once distilling that beauty into a rip, whilst using a song which played a huge part in my appreciation for the sound of jazz as a whole in my most formative years, placed into the soundscape of one of my most formative video games in the form of Pokémon Black and White. OF COURSE the rip was going to resonate with me - and those feelings were only bound to be amplified by my nostalgic attachment for the song within the SiIvaGunner channel itself, as its long stayed prominent in my mind due to appearing on a certified Season 1 classic in Escape from the Stevie by Wolfman1405. In short - the stars were aligned for For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T to light my heart ablaze.

But that is, of course, hardly even touching on the rip's quality in of itself. Released deep into Season 5, this was around the point where the SiIvaGunner team had truly NAILED their sound in terms of authenticity and adherence to the games featured, with Season 4 having irreversibly raised the bar of quality to expect from the channel. Everything from Poké Village to Mario Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Princess feels polished to an absolute spit-shine, and that quality carries over to For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T: Sir Duke's big, cruising sound, carried with brass and love of the medium, is adapted point-for-point with that very particular marching band-esque sound of Gen 5's Route themes. That immediately identifiable rolling-snare-drum sound from the original Route 4 theme in particular helps create such an adventurous sound, and keeping it here makes the marriage of the two songs feel really magical, like a glue that helps keep Sir Duke sounding authentically like a Pokémon Route theme even in adaptation. Althewhile the rest of the rip is able to go wild with the sounds on offer in Black and White's soundscape, be it the loud-and-proud trumpet lead, the timpani flute in response, or that which sounds almost like a violin sample employed at around 0:43, which captures the energy in Wonder's high-note vocals as perfectly as you could ask for.

Despite my lack of knowledge in the topic, I've come to understand just how deliberate of a process the act of rearrangement is - Black and White simply doesn't have an equivalent to a vocalist to be used in its soundscape, let alone within the Route 4 in particular. Yet such is the appeal in rearrangement rips like For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the king of all Lando-T, like with Last Freight-train Night, Owner of a Mahjong Board, and so many others - to walk that tightrope balance of preserving the qualities of the original song whilst highlighting the unique sounds only found in the game chosen for the rearranging. For having been made during his first-ever year of contributing to the channel, Brendan shows incredible mastery of this within the rip, with qualities only enhanced by my very personal feelings and attachments to everything it consists of. My love for Sir Duke, for its flavor of jazzy live-performed music, for Pokémon Black and White, and my love for the SiIvaGunner channel, all put together for something truly magical. Hopefully, even without having had all of those experiences, you too will be able to feel part of that magic in listening.

Ok so I just learned something while looking at Bio's for Pokemon characters for the KN8/Pokemon Crossover

Pokemon Legends Arceus has this inexplicable painting of a man who is incredibly similar too Alder.

And knowing how Pokemon games love too place hints towards the next game in the series I think it's very likely we will see Alder's ancestor in Legends Z-A

This is very interesting and I think I am definitely going too do something with this

That would be very interesting especially since there's a huge connection between Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos if you consider the war mentioned in the latter. Can only wonder if we're actually delving into what happened in that period.
