fr though you have to write bad poetry. poems are not handed down to you fully formed by god they are things that you have to work on and practice your skill at creating. nobody would expect you to sit down at a pottery wheel and end up with a perfect vase with no practice. it's a skill! art is a learned thing!! you have to make the shitty little pots with dents and marks and your fingerprints all over them in order to get better. and you're allowed to be proud of those first little pots you made too

#yeah maybe they leak or they don't look the prettiest but you literally made them...#people are so critical of their own + other people's amateur poetry in a way that they are not about so many other art forms #when someone starts crochet they are not expected to pop out perfect pieces immediately.#you don't start dance lessons and pull out a perfect pirouette. there's practice to be done and just because it's not physical #doesn't mean it's not a craft that has to be honed. you have to work at it.#and to work at it you have to be kind enough to yourself to let yourself be mediocre or outright bad. you Have to be #it's never a failure because anything you create is Something You Created and therefore a success #but y'know. the philosophy of you have to be prepared to fail. falling is part of getting back up all that #except that bad poetry will never hurt you it will ONLY ever help you improve <3 so keep writing it <3 #you don't have to post it either the attention economy is so evil... keep it to yourself. and if sharing poetry is a thing you want to do #you can always wait until you feel confident in your work to do so. or show the people you love your bad poems.#cause people who love you will see your hard work and love it regardless. y'know?#not poetry

NaPoWriMo #30: A triolet and a quatern

The prompt was "a poem that starts at the ending of something and works backward to the beginning". I really wanted to write about a story with a tragic ending and the beauty along the way, but instead all I could come up with were refrains about the subject that I worked into these poetry forms.

Is the story not worth telling If there's sorrow at the ending? If the journey is compelling Is the story not worth telling? Those whose days with life were swelling Could not know the doom impending Is the story not worth telling If there's sorrow at the ending?

If at the end the hero fails Does it destroy the other tales? Are there not moments of glory Though a failure ends the story?

We still care for those first details If at the end the hero fails. The sorrow, striving, hope and love Before the doom falls from above

Worth much more than the final win Or failure from his fatal sin (If at the end the hero fails From following forbidden trails)

Are all the virtues so hard-won That linger when the tale is done What's beautiful and true prevails If at the end the hero fails

This is the girl again!!! Now that her exams, her concussion, and Christmas is over I have decided to stir the pot with her again, and I just very gently reminded her that, "hey, you flirted with me a couple months ago...do you remember that?" (she did not) (I have AGAIN been bolder than I meant to) but anyway, she was like, "I'll get back on that!"

I know it doesn’t pan out but good for Claudia for being like “we should just kill him.” Like yeah girl kill him PLEASE. If Lestat gets to be a little bitch, Claudia and Louis can and should be allowed to wanna kill him about it as a treat 🥰 also I am cheering every time Lestat shows up in a new robe. loki/william rufus fic, where bill explains that as the second son he has inherited england while big brother bob only got the duchy of normandy, ha ha ha.

#no offence to normandy of course i'm sure it's a fine duchy with many things to recommend it.#oh but wait! England Son then dies in a “Hunting Accident” and the next brother heads for the capital ASAP!#where is Bob? idk i think he was on crusade or something. BUT! he'll get to stay in england when henry keeps him captive for life <3 #apparently robert got very into welsh poetry while imprisoned for being the older brother so maybe that made up for it all?#PLOT TWIST: henry the first of england leaves no legitimate sons and england ends up having a civil war when he dies.#btw it still throws me a bit that post-conquest kings have names like william and robert while the pre-1066 dudes are all named Aethelthing #*whispers* i kind of feel like asgard should be on a atheling system like pre-conquest england but i don't want to complicate things.#though this would explain why Thor 1 treats a Loki succession as a real possibility and thinks aptitude for kingship in any way matters.#whereas the later movies all assume it works on primogeniture (and none of us in fandom really absorbed the fact that when hela shows up #thor instantly accepts that she's ahead of him in the line of succession and objects to her evilness rather than her sex/gender.#so clearly if thor and loki have an older sister the OLDER matters more than the SISTER. right? yet sif is the only female warrior.#and while i think the 'kings NEED to go into battle!' thing was overstated by the past and by modern observers we do all go along with that #in the context of these films don't we? loki is unsuitable due to his *checks notes* weak fragile feminine form.#*looks at him and experiences a brief moment of cognitive dissonance before moving on*#and that's a story more of us want to tell (or i assume that's what's up) so we all just ignore The Hela Evidence don't we?)#(i can explain my own reasons if anyone asks but nobody will so i won't bother doing it in these tags.)#btw a friend once made a william the conqueror joke about passing the duchy on the left hand side which was FANSTASTIC #but explaining it would take far too long so i won't do that either.
