gonna say, something or someone being misogynistic is on its own a good enough reason not to like it or not to spend time with that person. It's not just that misogyny is so normalised that not watching a show or not spending with someone just because of misogyny is treated as not enough of a reason - it's also that as a woman, you are under constant scrutiny and constantly thrown tests to show that you are 'not one of the difficult ones', that you can 'take a joke'.
But 'your friend keeps saying degrading things about women' is a good enough reason not to hang out with that person or not to go to a gathering. 'i read the last book by his author and it was deeply misogynistic' is a good enough reason why you don't want to read things by that author anymore. 'This comedian specifically makes a lot of mean-spirited jokes about women' reason enogh not to watch that or see that show, even if your friends want to go. 'This content creator keeps going on weird tangents about women' reason enough not to watch their stuff or support them.
and it is especially a very good reason not to date someone.

In case anyone of you has been following the reveal of James Somerton's fragrant Plagiarism via Hbomberguy's "Plagiarism and You(Tube)
James Somerton has released a second response video, which may be more collected and calm, but he mentions his diagnosis with epilepsy and therefore the memory issues he suffers from as a reason for how the rampant continous plagiarism was possible to happen over and over again.
I believe him in saying he has memory issues. (I also believe him that he got fired because of his epilepsy, because sadly this is a very common occurence!)
I personally am not convinced, that memory issues cause you do copy-paste entire books and a multitude of articles into a script, close the doc, open the doc the next day and go "wow i definitely wrote all that, let me read it into the camera".
I don't remember a lot of the things I am saying, especially in verbal communication. Friends quote me back constantly and a lot of times I don't remember, I can only say "this sounds like something I would say".
My memory is very bad at times, and terribly accurate at others.
I know there are different types of memory issues.
But I can not - for the life of me - ESPECIALLY when I know I have these issues, imagine that someone with memory issues does not include pasting a link to the SOURCE of the text they are copying into their word.
I also am pretty sure, one would recognise their own writing style, even when not remembering writing something... especially in like - longform text formats.
I think also - when having a co-author, I would lean towards asking the co-author to check my writing for instances of accidental plagiarism, in order to stop it from happening (again).
But maybe this is just me. Am I being overly harsh here?
I don't want to shoot against someone who is also epileptic without reason. Please share your thoughts.

PLEASE STOP COPYING FICS ‼️
I am by no means gatekeeping concepts or tropes. We all know that it’s normal to see the same tropes or AUs be used differently, and that is not plagiarism. However, I recently found a fic that was oddly similar to my old (and discontinued) Gojo x Reader series, Reckless. The CEO! Gojo is nothing new, and neither is an accidental pregnancy trope. The only reason I am concerned is because this Gojo series I found has the exact same themes as Reckless that consists of: a playboy CEO Gojo with a very notorious reputation, a poor reader who is an employee and asset to the company (someone who works closely with Gojo), reader getting knocked up from a one night stand with Gojo, reader with a seemingly dead/absent mother yet still in contact with her father, Gojo with a very traditional family who does not like reader, and Gojo with an ex he struggles to let go of - which are all elements of Reckless.
The first chapter of that Gojo fic is also eerily similar to my first chapter with the same flow of: YN finding out she’s pregnant and her friend being there for her, Gojo saying he’ll take responsibility because ‘they both made the baby’, YN having to move in with Gojo to take care of the baby, and both of them coming to a mutual agreement that their ‘relationship’ will be purely for the baby’s benefit. The flow of events and specific details about the characters’ backgrounds are too similar to mine.
Again, I am not gatekeeping concepts, just as how I’ve had other writers ask me if they could write their own stories or takes based off of the NAOYA’S TROPHY WIFE COLLECTION or the BONTEN HUSBANDS EXCLUSIVE, and I’m fine with that. I’m even happy people are inspired by what I write. But being inspired is completely different from taking someone’s story and posting it as yours. Please trust your own creativity and skills in writing. You can write amazing stories and have people love them without having to steal from others.
It’s sad to say this is not the first time I, and other writers, have been plagiarized. It’s even more upsetting to know that a friend of mine who has also written a Gojo series (that I’m sure you all know and dearly love) experiences the same issues with the same person. The fact that this is happening to many writers out there is disheartening. We work hard and pour a lot of love in the stories we create. None of us are getting paid for this, and we simply want to share our passions with others. So please, let us be kinder with one another and show love and support the right way. If you love a fic, you give feedback and rb/comment + show support to the writer. You don’t steal their ideas and play it off as your own because you liked it.

*crawls out from underneath the rock I've been living under*
Wait, James Somerton did WHAT??? Internet Historian did WHAT??? Man, I knew I should have watched that hbomberguy video when it got uploaded.
(if y'all are curious basically there's a HUGE scandal going on right now with plagiarism accusations. James Somerton, a queer essayist I subbed to and liked, is apparently a HUGE fucking plagiarist who also makes shit up. Internet Historian and a bunch of other people also got called out for plagiarism in a 4 hour video by hbomberguy)

hbomb's blast of james somerton really makes me think back to other older youtubers who have been doing their good work, performing critical research and analyses into niche fields who then had their work plagiarized from their videos and henceforth wanted to stop making content.
yeah and also they got pushback from the internet saying the degree of plagiarism they'd experienced is a made up problem.
this is a sideways post.

anyway... there's a fine line between being inspired by your favorite piece of media to down right plagiarizing it (all the way to making one of your oc the exact carbon copy of an already well known character from said piece of media)
woke up to the wildest news (red's ig story)

Palworld critiques are looking more and more like Tumblr call-out posts they're all like
Long, drawn out, effective non-issue with several sources/instances
Another non-issue
This one is actually of substance and should be the main point, but it's buried by minor issues of little consequence
Another non-issue

Haven't been following the James Somerton drama closely but it's become so ridiculous that it's funny
Is no one going to talk about the fact that he said that he thought it was okay for him to mention Vito Russo in the opening credits and then never mention him again because his book was out of print and Russo was dead....
And then in the same breath say that he was 'extending Russo's legacy' like my brother in Christ do you even hear yourself-

image description start:
[a promotional picture of Sam and Dean Winchester, Sam on the left and Dean on the right, their images from circa 2010. They both stare challengingly into the camera with their arms crossed, though Dean also holds a large blade. The background is a two lane blacktop with an older style of power line and corn on either side. At the top and bottom are flames. Sam says "im restricting", Dean says "and im bingeing" and the flaming text gif at the bottom reads "the eating disorder brothers.]

…I’m starting this post with another long sigh. I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t been said already so I guess I’ll just say it louder. I. Do. Not. Authorize. My. Stories. In part or in whole…to be posted elsewhere, translated without permission, or otherwise shared to random little sites. A Stitch in Time especially has gotten more popular than I ever imagined, and to some degree that’s nice, but I’m still finding it (still!!!) uploaded to other places I’ve never even heard of or made an account. That should not be happening, guys. I have the right to have my feelings on this respected. If they’re not maybe something more drastic needs to happen, but I am hanging on to this fandom by a tether hoping to complete this work, and this is beyond frustrating and disrespectful.
How can you be a reader too shy to comment or actively engage with a work but you’re not too shy to lift it wholesale and repost??? And I don’t care if you put on the site that it’s not yours or that it can also be read and found elsewhere or share the link to the original—the people you’re providing it to on those sites aren’t going to stop and do that?? Why would they?! You provide it to them on another site for free! I’ve asked for this to stop. So stop. I found ASiT, among several places, on a fucking “free” academic site (screenshots below) most recently to put out unpublished scholarly works outside of journals and who even knows what the fuck it’s doing there. I’m a doctoral student and I feel a special way that someone, quite possibly, could be uploading PDFs of this story with the intent of somehow??? Again not sure how, passing it off as academia? What. In. The. Fresh. Hell. I don’t want to provide my personal information (such as my full name, home address, phone number and everything else) to some shady little site to prove the story is mine in order to submit a DMCA, I want this to stop happening so I don’t have to.

about the youtube plagiarism thing what is so disappointing with internet historian is all he had to do was credit the author. unlike iilluminaughtii and somerton, he really transformed the article, instead of just reading to a camera with more stolen footage, it was animated and voice acted and there was collaborative work put into it. all he had to do was at the start or end just say the video was based from the article and give a link and i really think there wouldn't have been a problem.

btw its interesting the way james tries to imply that like. well the videos that have plagiarism are the ones our dumb stupid annoying patrons requested about bad topics that didnt deserve to have the effort put in to covering them well so basically its fine. like obv thats interesting on its own but moreso the fact that he doesnt actually /say/ it, or like. give a list of the videos hes referring to, just says "those videos are very clear on which ones they were" i think as a nod meaning like "yknow the ones everyones talking about". unless what hes meaning is that like they put a note in certain videos saying "this video was requested by a patron, we here at james somertom incorporated do not espouse these views" which seems unlikely to me. idk methinks maybe it's because there is indeed a lot more than people think and with all the buzz he's not sure which ones have been discovered yet or not, so putting down a solid list that missed some would look like he was still hiding things whereas putting down a fully sourced list would be admitting to wayyyy more than anyone's found yet
#which is ironic too bc if he genuinely did want to prove he understood what he did wrong and that hed changed thatd be the way to do it#yknow like a full list of every single source including ones no one has found on their own or /can/ find anymore would a) be taking full#responsibility and b) make people less likely to always be like 'youre still hiding something'#which in turn makes me super think hes still hiding a lot of somethings#also cant go without stating that the 'request a video topic' thing was only for $100/month patrons after 3 months on that tier#like fucker these people gave you THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS AT LEAST and youre trying to blame it on them??????#no one forced you to make 'let patrons pick video topics' a reward dude like. hello????????#shit dude even hbombs highest tier ($10 for anyone wondering bc he doesnt see his audience as a money machine lmao)#just says you can vote in polls about future topics#like that makes complete sense to me as a version of this‚ the most dedicated audience members get a say in the future of the#channel while the creator still gets overall control of the direction#also 'patrons who gave me fuckloads of money asked me to make videos on topics i didnt like so i plagiarized those' is i think uhhh#worse than just 'i plagiarize everything without remorse' frankly?#like at least with the second youre just a general shitbag but the first where youre a shitbag specifically to the people#majorly financially supporting you rather than just like. be an adult and say 'hm i dont feel like that topic really works for the channel‚#do you have any other ideas?'#or dare i say even perhaps yknow. doing what other youtubers do in similar situations and find ways to tie that subject#to what they usually talk about is just. wild#course that last one would take actual creativity and aint that just the crux of the issue#james somerton#or i say cannot go without stating i should say cannot go without restating kwnrkabdkwbrn
