Okay so the fact that Obi-Wan’s cooking is canonically considered a War Crime (by Bail at least, idk who else hates it when he cooks lmao, he also canonically hated having to eat at the Jedi refectory because it probably was made to appeal to as many people as possible, and then later on Tatooine when he had to cook for himself he said he felt bad for trashing their cooking… so I think even he dislikes his own cooking) and I like to take things to extremes????? I have the opportunity to do the funniest shit ever.
Obi: *stuck with Mandos for months on end* oh, I mean, since you guys want cultural exchange, I guess I can make a traditional Jedi meal?
True Mandos who are desperately trying to adopt him and Satine: *unknowing of the bomb that’s about to go off* sure!
Months later
Qui-Gon: *puts a giant pot of stew on the table* This is one of our more traditional Jedi recipes.
Mandos: Um. I mean. I don’t know if our people really… vibe with the taste…
Qui: …when have you had Jedi recipes before?
Mandos: your Padawan-
Qui: oh you poor bastards, did any of you get sick?
Mandos: all of us yes we were fighting over bathroom space it was horrible
Qui: oh my god. It’s okay, I can cook. The child cannot. He makes salt cookies. And /likes/ them that way *shudders*
Obi: *laying on the floor in embarrassment*
Basically, the Mandos are convinced Jedi must like horrible things but no. It was just mister I Learned To Like Yoda’s Stew Cause It Tastes Like When I Make Normal Stew. These poor bastards.

i feel like I haven't seen enough people mention the fact that Halsin canonically smokes, specifically exotic tobacco, and specifically out of a nice, old pipe that looks (to me) like it might be briar wood.
i just think there is something so inexplicably warm about that, that he enjoys such a small, but extravagant little luxury.
like the only thing I can imagine him smoking is something that envelops him in that woodsy-spicy, pleasantly scratching scent of good quality tobacco for the rest of the day, and the only way I can see him doing it is settled back in a nice chair, with his feet propped up, a good book in his hand, and some fuzzy critter curled up in his lap.

I snuck in a late spring hike in Cheat River Canyon yesterday, before the dreaded heat dome builds in early next week. Between Brazil's Pantanal going up in flames and the massive heat spikes in North America and elsewhere, I wonder what will be left of this planet's beautiful wild places in twenty to thirty years. For now, I celebrate and cherish every day the glorious diversity of living things that nature has gifted us. This includes the magnificent poke milkweed (Asclepias exaltata), a shade tolerant member of the dogbane family, which feeds and hosts a great many of those living things, such as the extraordinary Himmelman's plume moth (Geina tenuidactylus). Or the comical-looking rock harlequin (Corydalis sempervirens), which clings to the rocky outcrops of the canyon. And the exquisite downy skullcap (Scutellaria incana), a gregarious summer mint that associates with wild bergamot and tall thimbleweed at forest edges. And how about the peculiar dangling flowers of Indian cucumber (Medeola virginiana) or the pale, ghostly stems and bracts of the parasitic Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora), just now emerging from the forest floor? In a couple of weeks, the rhododendron bloom will start in the canyon and summer will be in full swing.

Rejoicing a Treasure Conserved

As some of you may know, I am currently dealing with an especially difficult Faerie Physic case right now—possibly my most vexing to date—and it has taken a lot out of me. Between this work, and my paying work that I still have to keep up with to make a living, I have been burning the candle at both ends. In this time of stress and danger, I felt strongly compelled to turn to my chief Herbal Ally—the Ghost Pipe.
Despite the population of Ghost Pipes that I spent years stewarding in a devotional capacity being entirely depleted last year in what I believe was an unethical foraging harvest, I felt a strong call to revisit the site and look for any plants that may have managed to survive somehow.
After making my way to the forested site mentioned above, I began my search along all the places I previously saw colonies growing, but dishearteningly, I found nothing. Finally, I remembered the time a year ago that I felt called to spread seeds from the previous year's pods along areas that I intuitively felt would support Ghost Pipe cultivation. At the time, I didn't realize how fortuitous this act of sowing would be, as it was only a few months later that the area was ecologically divested. Remembering this, I went to a particular spot that I remember spreading an especially large amount of seed powder in, and I was literally choked up to discover, not only a young colony of Ghost Pipes just beginning to peak their heads above the soil, but a small snailshell (which have an especially powerful and longstanding role in my tradition as Fae Omens of the wild).
After lowering myself to the ground in worship and offering up prayers of gratitude and joy, I carefully concealed the area with bracken ferns and marked it with a subtle arrangement of sticks that I implanted in a nearby mound of earth. As a lovely bonus, I stumbled upon a small patch of Gnome Plants while marking the area for later notice—with these plants often showing up in my Craft as meaningful Fae Omens in their own right.

I will be returning often to check on and nurture this population of nacent Ghodt Pipes, as well as doing whatever I can to conceal and protect it.
