Thoughts On Frederic Malle Leaving His Own Brand -- And Reviews Of Some Of His Classic Scents
Frederic Malle has announced he's leaving his own brand -- some thoughts from me, followed by reviews of a few his classic releases
â The speculators I alluded to above are theorising about all manner of likely (and less likely) reasons and scenarios. Take your pick from whichever of the following you fancy: i) thwarted creative freedom, ii) clashing and disagreeing with the marketing strategies employed by a multi-national monolith, iii) not wanting to put up any longer with his perfumes being cheapened, iv) the end of theâŠ

Attempts on Robespierreâs life compilation
Henri Admirat:Â wanted to shoot Robespierre at the Committee of Public Safety, tried to shoot Collot dâHerbois in his stairwell.
CĂ©cile Renault:Â wanted to stab Robespierre with an iron dagger that she didnât know was in her pocket.Â
Legendre:Â was encouraged by an anonymous letter to take two pistols and shoot Saint-Just and Robespierre in the middle of the Convention
Lecointre, Fréron, Barras, RovÚre, Thirion, Courtois, Garnier de l'Aube, Guffroy and Tallien: planned to team up and stab Robespierre to death in the middle of the Convention.
Bourdon dâOise: planned to on his own stab Robespierre to death with a cutlass according to Pierre Nicolas Berryer.
Fouché: wanted to kidnap Robespierre from the jacobins and drown him in the Seine according to Paul Ségur.
Collot dâHerbois: attempted to throw Robespierre through the window of the Committee of Public Safety according to Barras.
Unknown assassin 1: tried to kill Robespierre on the eve of the Insurrection of August 10 according to Lucile Desmoulins.
Unknown assassin 2: tried to choke Robespierre to death when alone with him at the Duplays according to Charlotte Robespierre.
Charlotte Robespierre: attempted to poison Robespierre with jam according to Françoise Duplay.
If reddit had existed in the 18th century I bet these guys would be active in threads like this:
OK but seriously, which one of these assassination attemps actually come off as least unserious/most probable to actually working?
#robespierre#maximilien robespierre#frev#french revolution#fouchĂ©#collot dâherbois#cĂ©cile renault#tallien#guffroy#honestly i may have to go with charlotte here#at least if the poison is strong#only downside is more people might die as well#but given how much she hated the duplays it doesnât seem like it would be that big of an issue for her#frev compilation#ok donât take this post seriously#just like i donât treat the majority of these attempts seriously

dear kristina, its minimum wage tgirly fragrence anon...I'm still on my fragrence journey, i was wondering, are there any scents u luv that are really like rainy and aquatic, but with a sharp spice or citrus underneath...i wanna remind people of a rainy day with no work and nowhere to really go <3
hi darling <3 i love acqua di gio (this one is harder to find now that they have acqua di gioia) & light blue, i love cool water - this one is a masc marine smell but also soapier than the other two, i love how it feels on my skin. i love pierre bourdon's work, he worked with olivier creed on erolfa & GIT as well
erolfa is on the more expensive side, i had a sample and i really liked the vibrant citrus at the top. kind of like eating a fruit salad and getting a sudden splash of seawater in your face

Duty Free Quick Takes
smelled on the strip, not on me
Hermes Jour d'Hermes
Nose: Jean-Claude Ellena
notes: grapefruit, lemon, water; white flowers, gardenia, sweet pea; musk, woody notes
a rather unfriendly fancy-hotel-soap scent in a chilly aquatic-fruity style; nice enough but doesn't spark joy.
CK One
Nose: Alberto Morillas
notes: lemon, green notes, bergamot, pineapple, mandarin, cardamom, papaya; lily of the valley, jasmine, violet, nutmeg, rose, iris, freesia; green accord, musk, cedar, sandalwood, oakmoss, green tea, amber
Surprisingly musky! A nice contrast between unisex citrusy-green freshness and something a bit dustier or sweatier.
CK IN2U For Her
Notes: pink grapefruit, bergamot, currant leaf; cactus, orchid; vanilla, cedar, amber
Painfully screechy chemicals and cloying sweetness and unpleasant "choking" musks? Wow.
CK Be
Nose: Rene Morgenthaler
Notes: lavender, green notes, bergamot, mint, juniper, mandarin orange; grass, peach, jasmine, freesia, magnolia, orchid; musk, sandalwood, cedar, vanilla, amber, opoponax
A very simple but peaceful "clean green" synthetic scent, like a single gong ringing out into a quiet evening.
YSL Paris
Nose: Sophia Grojsman
notes: rose, mimosa, hyacinth, geranium, green notes, nasturtium, orange blossom, hawthorn, cassia, bergamot; violet, lily, linden, ylang-ylang, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine, iris; musk, heliotrope, sandalwood, oakmoss, amber, cedar
A delicate, baby-blue, powdery violet with other soapy florals. Not nearly as loud or sweet as I expected from descriptions; more of a clean ladylike scent.
Davidoff Cool Water
Nose: Pierre Bourdon
notes: sea water, lavender, mint, green notes, rosemary, calone, coriander; sandalwood, neroli, geranium, jasmine; musk, oakmoss, tobacco, cedar, amber
This is the OG aquatic scent and it's still startling how happy a smell it is and how it does right what countless imitators get wrong. Crisp, masculine, with a bit of tart fruit, it basically smells like the world's cleanest, most invigorating shower.
Armani Stronger With You
Nose: Cecile Matton
notes: cardamom, pink pepper, violet leaf, mint; pineapple, cinnamon, melon, sage, lavender; vanilla, chestnut, amberwood, cedar, guaiac
Interesting sweet-dark chestnut note, drowned out by an obnoxiously loud woody-amber.
Lancome Poeme
Nose: Jacques Cavallier
notes: narcissus, datura, peach, plum, poppy, mandarin, blackcurrant, bergamot, green notes; mimosa, vanilla, tuberose, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, jasmine, freesia, heliotrope, rose, leather; amber, tonka bean, musk, cedar
This is a real, full-bodied perfume; a big ol' heady aldehydic floral, lots of sweetness, lots of fluffiness, tuberose and mimosa are definitely involved. Your mom is wearing her good jewelry and going to the opera. Can one...actually, y'know, wear it? in 2023? Probably not, or at least not without irony, but it at least has artistry.

Du bois en poudre
10 heures 45

Base Notes: Finally, Davidoff Cool Water dries down to a warm and masculine base of amber, musk, cedarwood, and tobacco. These deeper notes add richness and longevity to the fragrance, ensuring that it stays with you throughout the day.

See on Scoop.it - EntomoNews

Moi je trouve ça long.
Merci Monsieur Tibrun! Je tâaime.
Bonne journée, donne des bisous à tes sénaneurs,
GĂ©zhillmlacotrage

Is there a list of frev figures who claimed to be at the storming of the Bastille? The people I know who said they at least witnessed it is pretty eclectic like Herault, LĂ©on and Saint-Just.
I found all the (official?) âvainqueurs de la Bastilleâ listed in alfabethical order here (1889). However, according to Michael J. Sydenhamâs LĂ©onard Bourdon: The Career of a Revolutionary, 1754-1807, whoâs subject of study claimed to belong to this group, simply holding this title was not a guarantee that you had actually taken part in the storming itself:
The only people found on the list that I myself recognized were those of the dantonist Louis Legendre, the girondin Claude Fauchet and the general Antoine Joseph Santerre. I therefore donât know if the people claiming to have participated in the storming here below are just lying (saying you played a role in it after all being something that would easily better your patriotic reputation) or if their participation just wasnât recorded (which doesnât sound particulary hard to be true either):
Stanislas FrĂ©ron claims in a letter to Lucile Desmoulins dated October 18 1793, that both he, Barras and La Poype âbesiegedâ the Bastille.
Pierre Nicolas Berryer wrote in his memoirs that the Convention deputy Bourdon dâOise participated in the storming of the Bastille, and still kept the blood stained coat he had worn during it five years later:
At the same time, and as if he felt the need to convince me even more of the strength of his mind, [Bourdon] took out from under his bed an oblong casket, in which was tucked the coat he had worn on the day of the storming of the Bastille⊠[âŠ] He took great care to point out to me that his coat was still covered with stains from the blood he had spilled at the Bastille.Â
Albert Mathiez summarized in the article La vie de HĂ©ron racontĂ©e par lui-mĂȘme (1925) a memoir the Committee of General Security spy François HĂ©ron wrote while imprisoned after thermidor. In it, he would have claimed to have participated in the storming of the Bastille, as well as the womenâs march on Versailles, the demonstration of June 20 and the Insurrection of August 10.
According to Dictionnaire des parlementaires français (âŠ) de 1789 Ă Â 1889, Jacques-Alexis Thuriot took part in the storming.
Regarding some more well known guys and their Bastille activities, Desmoulins, in a letter written to his father written July 16, leaves a rather detailed description of the storming. Through the following part, he does however indicate that he himself missed it:
Then, the cannon of the French Guards made a breach. Bourgeois, soldiers, everyone rushes forward. An engraver climbs up first, they throw him down and break his legs. A luckier French guard followed him, seized a gunner, defended himself, and the place was stormed in half an hour. I started running at the first cannon shot, but the Bastille was already taken, in two and a half hours, a miracle that is.
Camille also adds that, on July 15, he was among the people who scaled the ruins of the stormed Bastille:
However, I felt even more joy the day before, when I climbed into the breach (montai sur la brĂšche) of the surrendered Bastille, and the flag of the Guards and the bourgeois militias was raised there. The most zealous patriots were there. We embraced each other, we kissed the hands of the French guards, crying with joy and intoxication.
On July 23 1789, Robespierre wrote a letter to Antoine Buissart telling him he had gotten to see the âliberatedâ Bastille, but he had of course not participated in the storming himself:
Iâve seen the Bastille, I was taken there by a detachment of the brave bourgeois militia that had taken it; because after leaving town hall, on the day of the king's trip, the armed citizens took pleasure in escorting out of honor the deputies they met, and they could only march among acclamations from the people. What a delightful abode the Bastille has been since it came into the power of the people, its dungeons are empty and a multitude of workers work tirelessly to demolish this odious monument to tyranny! I could not tear myself away from this place, the sight of which only gives sensations of pleasure and ideas of liberty to all good citizens.
According to Danton: le mythe et lâhistoire (2016), Danton did not take part in the actual storming of the Bastille, however, the following day he went to the abandoned prison and took the provisional governor hostage:
Absent from the storming of the Bastille, it was on the night of July 15 to 16 that Danton took action. At the head of a patrol of the bourgeois guard of his district, of which he proclaimed himself captain, he claimed, we do not know in what capacity, to enter the "castle of the Bastille,â placed under the control of the elector SoulĂšs, as provisional governor. Without worrying about his powers, Danton has him kidnapped and taken to City Hall, surrounded by a threatening crowd. But SoulĂšs was released the next day upon the intervention of La Fayette; Danton's initiative was openly disavowed and blamed by the assembly of electors.
According to Clifford D. Connor, Marat wrote the following about his activities on July 14 1789 in number 36 of lâAmi du peuple (12 November 1789):
#lots of thermidorians who were involved in the stormingâŠ#french revolution#frev#bastille#danton was really unhinged hereâŠ
