In the fresco, Helle is depicted on the verge of drowning, her face obscured by waves as she reaches out to her brother. Photograph: Pompeii Archaeological Park
In a remarkable discovery at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, archaeologists have unearthed a fresco depicting the Greek mythological siblings Phrixus and Helle.
“History has repeated itself,” said Zuchtriegel, as he gave an update on excavation and restoration work. “It is a beautiful fresco in an excellent state of conservation. The myth of Phrixus and Helle is widespread at Pompeii but it is topical too. They are two refugees at sea, a brother and sister, forced to flee because their stepmother wants rid of them and she does so with deception and corruption. She [Helle] fell into the water and drowned.”
The fresco showcases vibrant colours and exquisite artistry, with Helle depicted on the verge of drowning, her face obscured by waves as she reaches out to her brother.
Zuchtriegel expressed optimism about making these meticulously preserved homes accessible to the public in the near future, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of this latest uncovering.

Phrixus and Helle!
Phrixus and Helle were two siblings forced to flee their stepmother who wanted them dead. Cast out to sea, Helle fell overboard and drowned.
It's a story that seemed to be told often around Pompeii, and it's so cool to see it represented so vividly here.

Archaeologists Find Pompeii Fresco Depicting Greek Mythological Siblings
In a remarkable discovery at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, archaeologists have unearthed a fresco depicting the Greek mythological siblings Phrixus and Helle.
Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the director of Pompeii Archaeological Park, described the find as a poignant reflection of history unfolding once more.
The ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed in AD79 by an eruption that killed more than 2,000 people. The ruins have become one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world.
The city, which attracts almost 4 million visitors a year, has come a long way since 2013, when Unesco threatened to place it on its list of world heritage sites in peril unless Italian authorities improved its preservation.
Surprises unearthed in recent months include 13 Nativity-style statuettes that provided evidence of pagan ritual traditions in the ancient Roman city and, last June, a striking still life fresco resembling a pizza that includes an item that looks suspiciously like a pineapple.

「He looks up, and sees the sky turn white. He listens, and hears a thunderous boom of sundering.」
my personal artwork for Phrixus' final moments. I'm quite proud of it despite a bit of jank here and there :)
#nikoshii#phrixus#meanwhile helle was somewhere else having her own depression meltdown but thats in another doc#also he would have survived his injuries regardless hydaelyn effectively euthanized him#for further context the twin azems' hair is usually blue tapering off to white#but as the final days post zodiark progressed they overworked themselves until all their natural blue faded out

“Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, cuz we were born this way, 🤬!” -Lady Gaga @ladygaga Unapologetic, and ready to seize any opportunity this fiery sign is ruled by the God of War #Aries (or #mars), and restarts the cosmic wheel leading us into spring (the vernal equinox). So, happy birthday to all you spring chickens which includes: Jackie Chan Charlemagne Leonardo da Vinci & Vincent van Gogh & Skottie Young Keegan-Michael Key & Tig Notaro Johann Sebastian Bach Emma Watson & Anya Taylor-Joy & Jessica Chastain & Sarah Michelle Gellar Aretha Franklin & Elton John Tim Curry & Pedro Pascal Maya Angelou & Beverly Clearly & Robert Frost Jane Goodall & Wilhelm Rontgen Joseph Pulitzer Andrew Lloyd Webber & Stephen Sondheim Francis Ford Coppola & Edgar Wright Kareem Abdul-Jabbar & Peyton Manning …and so many, many, many more...lots of actors under this sign. As for the origin tale…. In their tale of ascension, #Chrysomallus is sent by the nymph #Nephele to rescue her children #Phrixus & #Helle from being sacrificed to Zeus by their stepmother #Ino in order to end the blight devastating the land. Sadly Helle does not survive the tale, but lives on as commemorated by the #Hellesport a strait bearing her name. Phrixus is brought to #Colchis (modern-day country of Georgia), and then sacrifices the ram to Zeus, while placing the fleece in a grove sacred to the war God Aries. It will reside here undisturbed until revisited in the story of Jason and the Argonauts. #astrology #horoscope #vectorart #adobeillustrator #adobephotoshop #artist #art #illustration #illustrator #illustratorsoninstagram #digitalart #digitalartist #digitalillustration #digitalpainting #design #designer #orangecountyart #orangecountyartist #losangelesart #losangelesartist #stilesofart @adobe @photoshop @_adobeillustrator_ @jackiechan @skottieyoung @keeganmichaelkey @emmawatson @anyataylorjoy @jessicachastain @sarahmgellar @arethafranklin @eltonjohn @pascalispunk @drmayaangelou @janegoodallinst @realsondheim @coppolawine @edgarwright @kareemabduljabbar_33 @peytonmanning https://www.instagram.com/p/CqA2GiwLlz5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This is mine! One of the twin Azems in my shared canon with my friend. The male is Phrixus and the female is Helle but because they look exactly identical both in body and soul only a few people such as Emet-Selch, Hyth can Venat can tell the two of them apart consistently.
Both of them were naturally gifted in creation magicks and had high levels of creativity which unfortunately resulted in them constantly creating havoc with Phrixus' concepts and Helle's "toys". Eventually their mess got so big the Azem at that time (Venat) had to step in. She took notice of them and took them away with their parent's consent to teach and raise them. Phrixus also was permanently censured by the convocation from creating new concepts and his existing ones placed in Pandaemonium.
Venat failed to mention which of the twins she had appointed as Azem leading to both of them handling the role at the same time without the rest of the convocation finding out for a very long time. In fact the only reason they eventually got caught was because they made a minor mistake on one occasion by attending the same meeting together. Phrixus was also given a set of convocation approved concepts by the convocation to use but it hasn't stopped him from bending the rules. Helle meanwhile had become a proud inventor of Ethyris's first guns and a creator of countless amount of weapon based concepts.
Both of them disappear sometime after the Final Days when the convocation suggested sacrificing the newly created lives to bring back their fellow people, Phrixus first and then Helle. (I do have lore about what happened to them during this time but it would be too long for this post). Post-sundering, Nowi inherits Phrixus' soul and Ari inherits Helle's. The canon then diverges based on who Hyadelyn finds first and chooses as the WoL.
You guys should tell me about your Azems while I'm stuck here at work. Just anything about them! Their names, what they like to do, did they ever make any concepts, who they loved, etc... Anything!
Hell, even just any Ancient OC's you might have. It doesn't necessarily have to be Azem!
#nikoshii#nowi noksho#phrixus (azem)#i came up with the concept for helle but she's flame's character so i leave her to them#yes their names do forshadow the fact they are permanently seperated sometime before their death#and they only reunite as the noksho siblings

Funny how Hera killed/tried to kill two of Cadmus’ daughters and both became immortal goddesses as a result. Literally accomplished the opposite of what she was aiming for lol.
Especially since Semele is a dumbass and Ino is a cartoonish evil stepmother (Phrixus and Helle). In contrast to Heracles who went through hell and back to earn immortality.
#this is why I don’t care for stories were mortals become imortal just bc a god liked or pitied them#it removes stakes#it’s probably silly to complain about who deserves what in Greek mythology#but I like complaining#greek mythology#ancient greek mythology#greek pantheon#greek goddess#hera#hera goddess#hera deity#hera greek mythology#semele#ino#Cadmus#helle#phrixus and helle#Phrixus

The Evermore Grimoire: Astrology
Aries (March 21st to April 19th) is the first astrological sign in the zodiac. In Greek Mythology, Aries is associated with the winged ram Chrysomallos, who rescued Phrixus and Helle (the children of the Boeotian King Athamas) and provided the Golden Fleece. The king then sacrificed the ram to Zeus (king of the gods) who placed it in the heavens as the constellation. The ram’s golden fleece was later recovered by Jason (leader of the Argonauts). Traits associated with Aries include being loyal, smart, and impulsive. They always have multiple projects on their mind, and won't be satisfied until their work, social life, and personal lives line up exactly with the dream life they've envisioned. Those who are drawn to them may have trouble keeping up, but if they can, they'll have a friend for life. An Aries sign will always tell you what they're thinking, with a frankness that may occasionally border on rudeness. But even if they seem overly blunt with their opinion, that's only because they value honesty above all else. And it works both ways. When it comes to love, Aries signs are all about initial attraction. They can sense chemistry in the first sentence uttered by a potential partner. Forthright and unabashed, they will do everything in their power to go after someone they want. Sometimes, they need to learn how to slow down and foster long-term connections. Fireworks are fun, but they don't necessarily make a great match. Aries are also amazing lovers: versatile, passionate, and always invested in the moment.

8: ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS The ancient Greek Zodiakos, or Zodiac, is a division of the celestial sphere into twelve equal parts; each one containing a specific group of stars with a mythic association called a constellation. Ancient Greeks used the constellations for sailing navigation, time keeping for seasonal agricultural practices like planting and harvesting crops, mythic storytelling purposes, and astrology practices. Hellenistic Astrology, taking influence from the Babylonians and Egyptians, sought meaning in the zodiac signs and how they influenced a person’s character based on the position of the sun when they were born. They also used this practice for divination, providing guidance and predictions for the future. Let’s take a look at the twelve Zodiac constellations and their mythic tales. 1.) Aries (March 21-April 19) represents the flying golden ram sent by the gods to save the royal children Phrixus and Helle from sacrifice, and whose fleece later becomes the quested prize for the Argonauts. 2.) Taurus (April 20-May 20) represents the bull which Zeus transformed into to seduce Europa, and is linked to the Cretan Bull and the myth of the Minotaur. 3.) Gemini (May 21-June 21) represents the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Zeus and Leda, known for their inseparable bond and heroic deeds. 4.) Cancer (June 22- July 22) represents the crab sent by Hera to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra, later placed in the sky by Hera as a constellation. 5.) Leo (July 23- Aug. 22) represents the lion, representing strength and kingship, associated with the Nemean Lion defeated by Hercules. 6.) Virgo (Aug 23- Sept 22) represents the maiden, often linked to the goddess of agriculture and fertility, such as Demeter or Persephone. 7.) Libra (Sept 23- Oct 23) represents goddess of justice Astraea, daughter of Themis, who carries the scales of justice. 8.) Scorpio (Oct 24- Nov 21) represents the scorpion sent by Artemis or Gaia to kill Orion 9.) Sagittarius (Nov 22- Dec 21) represents the centaur archer, often identified as the wise and skilled Chiron. 10.) Capricorn (Dec 22- Jan 19) represents the sea goat Aegipan, who aided Zeus in his fight against Typhon. 11.) Aquarius (Jan 20- Feb 18) represents the cupbearer of the gods, Ganymede, who was abducted by Zeus and placed among the stars. 12.) Pisces (Feb 19- March 20) represents the two fish, Aphrodite and Eros, who transformed to escape the monster Typhon.

It's Aries szn!♈🐏
I'm excited to finally get started on my greek myth astrology series with the Golden Fleece representing the fiery ram🔥 The Golden Fleece was the hide of the golden ram, Chrysomallos, which carried Phrixus and Helle on its back, eventually bringing Phrixus (Helle didnt survive) to Colchis in modernday Georgia. The fleece serves as a symbol of authority, and was stolen from Colchis by Jason and the Argonauts with the help of Medea.
This Greek myth astrology series will feature each sign represented by a character or event in mythology (whether canonically related to the sign or not - I'm vibing). I've already got Taurus in the works, but who should I create next?
