Noah's Ark
Artist: Edward Hicks (American, 1780 -1849)
Genre: Religious Art
Date Created: 1846
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia Pennsylvania
Description
The biblical story of Noah’s ark, depicted here, is found in the book of Genesis (6:9–9:28). To punish people for their wicked and violent ways, God decided to send heavy rains to earth for forty days and forty nights. First, however, he instructed Noah, a righteous man, to build an ark for his family and two of every kind of animal. After the rains stopped, a dove sent out by Noah returned to the ark with an olive branch, proof that the floodwater had receded and plants could grow again. Then God created a beautiful rainbow in the sky as a symbol of his promise to never destroy the earth again.
This painting by Edward Hicks shows a long, curving line of animals approaching Noah’s huge boat. Prancing horses and a serious-looking lion stare out at us, while pairs of elegant, black-and-white-striped zebras, giraffes, camels, tigers, and hippopotamuses stand patiently. In the distance, tiny black birds fly down from the dark, rain-filled clouds overhead.
Edward Hicks learned to paint decorative motifs when he was apprenticed to a coach maker at the age of thirteen. Later he became a successful sign painter and a devout Quaker preacher. Although his business conflicted with Quaker beliefs-that art is a distraction and a needless luxury-Hicks considered his art to be an expression of his faith and created paintings that told religious stories. This is the only painting he made of the story of Noah’s ark.

I designed posters and some merch/related items for a fake museum exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences! I also redesigned the logo for extra credit (and think it’s much cooler than the original).
The museum used to have a butterfly exhibit, so I felt that focusing on them again for a new exhibit would be okay despite the major focus being on dinosaurs. There’s a lovely stained glass mural piece in the museum that inspired the idea of Stained Glass Butterflies.
I settled on designing tickets, gift shop bags, cafe cups, and a tote bag based around this exhibit. I might add a few more ideas to the line, depending on the time and motivation I have. I’m definitely printing off some sticker sheets of the butterflies I made, but I also might paint some of the designs on a shirt if I can find a good piece while thrifting.
I entered this project into LOCALLY SOURCED, a competition in Philadelphia and the surrounding states! I won’t know till between October 18th and November 17th if I made it in. It’d be cool to see my work in a magazine with other incredibly talented college designers.
I hope you guys like this set of products I made!

Lay Bankz Radiates Boss B*tch Energy in "Good Look" Single
Known for her danceable club tracks and infectious spirit, Lay Bankz can flat out spit when she wants to. The Philly-born 19-year-old shows off her emcee skills on "Good Look," her latest single. Weaving between detuned woodwinds and insstent percussion, Lay Bankz takes a moment to flex, methodically addressing the many reasons why she can't be messed with: "Can't nobody check me less it's coming with some commas/I'm a top 10, you ain't not, Iguodala/I'm a boss b*tch, raw b*tch without that condom/I got all this ass and I get it from my momma," stresses Lay Bankz. Luckily for her fans, the versatile artist promises good things to anyone wise enough to join her team: "F*ck with me, that's a good look." "Good Look" arrives after Lay turned the clock back with her R&B banger"Tell Ur Girlfriend" (3 million streams to date), the subject of a popular and infectious From The Block video.
"Good Look" and "Tell Ur Girlfriend" continue the momentum from Lay Bankz's breakout 2023, marked by several viral singles and an acclaimed debut EP. She kicked off the year with the frenetic club-rap anthem "Na Na Na," a viral smash that generated over 127k video creations on TikTok and over 41 million global streams. Lay tapped into the zeitgeist once again with her single "ICK!," a ferocious club-rap song about the moment sparks stop flying, which became one of the biggest viral hits of 2023, peaking at #8 on Billboard x TikTok's Viral Chart behind more than 1 million video creations, and generating over 81 million streams across platforms. Both "Na Na Na" and "ICK!" are highlights from Now You See Me, Lay's debut EP, which shows her range across 7 memorable tracks, and racked up over 127 million streams. To close out 2023, Lay released "Sloppy Seconds (Ick Pt. 2)," the equally-cheeky follow-up single to "ICK!," generating 14 million streams since its release in December.
Most recently, Lay Bankz made her first appearance at Rolling Loud, when she shut it down on the main stage during last week's Rolling Loud California 2024. Earlier this year, she was named one of Spotify's Most Necessary Artists To Watch for 2024, placed on Complex's list of Rappers To Watch in 2024 and YouTube's Fifty Deep Music Class of 2024, joined fellow club-influenced artist Skaiwater on "choosin u," and walked the Red Carpet at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Lay Bankz is on a mission to bring Philly to the masses. Stay tuned for much more from the rapidly rising artist as the year continues.'

Philly Phenom Lay Bankz Shares "Good Look" Music Video
Rising with her unique combination of velvety vocals and neck-snapping rhymes, Lay Bankz has racked up over 150 million streams since the start of 2024. Taking a moment to feel herself and send a warning to the competition, Lay Bankz shares the music video for "Good Look," her latest single. Produced by $aint Vincent, Albin Tengblad & Simon Jonasson, "Good Look" is powered by infectious flutes and Lay's radiant swag, as she leans into her inner Regina George and opens up her burn book: "How you ugly with no money? You just basic," she raps. In the video, directed by EMBRCETHESTRNGE, Lay pilots an old school Ford truck around her hometown of Philadelphia, as she heads from the studio to the stacks of her local library.

"Good Look" and its music video continue the momentum created by "Tell Ur Girlfriend," her nostalgic banger, which has already racked up over 20 million streams since its February release. The two new singles follow-up on an explosive 2023 that established Lay Bankz as one of the most exciting rising artists in music today. She kicked off the year with the frenetic club-rap anthem "Na Na Na," a viral smash that generated over 127k video creations on TikTok and over 44 million global streams. Lay tapped into the zeitgeist once again with her single "ICK!," a ferocious club-rap song about the moment sparks stop flying, which became one of the biggest viral hits of 2023, peaking at #8 on Billboard x TikTok's Viral Chart behind more than 1 million video creations, and generating over 89 million streams across platforms. Both "Na Na Na" and "ICK!" are highlights from Now You See Me, Lay's debut EP, which shows her range across 7 memorable tracks, and racked up over 139million streams. To close out 2023, Lay released "Sloppy Seconds (Ick Pt. 2)," the equally-cheeky follow-up single to "ICK!," generating 19million streams since its release in December.
Last month, Lay Bankz made her first appearance at Rolling Loud, when she shut it down on the main stage during Rolling Loud California 2024.
