Going Dark
RED VELVET Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, Saturday 13th July, 2024 Ira Aldridge earned his place in theatre history for being the first black actor to play Othello on the London stage. This was back in the 19th century, before the abolition of slavery so, as you can imagine, he caused quite a rumpus. Lolita Chakrabarti’s play, first produced in 2012, charts that experience. It begins in…

So there's news coming out that The Phil let teams know he's willing to sacrifice his iron man streak just to keep playing in the NHL this season. Your thoughts? I'm surprised that this is the second year in a row that he went unsigned late into free agency, despite what he has accomplished
I'm both surprised and unsurprised. He holds his Ironman streak to high standards but the downside is quite literally that it limits the teams options. With that said the guy wants to keep playing so it makes sense he would make it more known he is okay with breaking his streak so long as he gets to keep playing.
With his streak being so prolific it makes sense that teams are more hesitant to sign him and possibly be the ones that break it. I don't think it's a matter of if he doesn't get signed because I do think he will get signed if he doesn't decide to retire but it's definitely going to be difficult to find a team that's willing to be the guys that break that. Even if not breaking it could possibly be detrimental to the team as a whole.

AHSKFKGKDKSJSJ YOU MADE THE SCENE EVEN MORE HEARTBREAKING AND TENDER AND SOFT oh MY GODKAJDJFKSJ
“Instead, he’s only a blip in time, there one second and gone the next.”
This whole thing is beautiful but that TOOK ME OUT omg. Literally I have no idea how but I never conceptualized how short of a time they knew each other because of the amount of love between them, and now my heart is breaking for these two all over again.
Okay it happened. My first time writing for Agents of Shield. My heart and mind are taken over by Coulson and Daisy and well, girl gotta do what she gotta do and ✨process✨ those feelings. Full thing under the cut because I accidentally hit over 2k with this thing and who knows, maybe it'll end up on AO3 as well! For now I'm just testing waters.
@skoulsons @outer-edges I hope you'll enjoy this little tearjerker.
"There's no S.H.I.E.L.D. without you."
Maybe. But to him, there's no S.H.I.E.L.D. without her. He's the past, but she's the future; she's the one who will bring this pile of ashes back to life, who will lead with her giant heart and a brilliant mind and create something extraordinary. She's the legacy he couldn't be more proud to leave behind.
"There's nothing without you," Daisy sobs as she breaks down in front of him, and Phil's heart shatters to pieces in his chest like she just hit it with her powers. He answers its call, its desperate plea to bring her closer, and he pulls her in, a soft come here on his lips as he gathers Daisy in his arms and lets her fall apart against him.
Her tears soak into the collar of his jacket. She's shaking, wrecked by sobs she can no longer hold back. He brings a hand up to cup the back of her head, and he closes his eyes at the softness of her long, brown waves under his calloused fingertips, letting it overcome him.
Holding her had always been quite a difficult task for him because, once he had her in his arms, he never wanted to let go. But he had to. Because duty called, because he was needed elsewhere, because she had to go. There was always something that forced them to pull apart, always something that had him stepping away and releasing her, always something that made him let go.
Now he's dying. He could be gone in an hour, a day, a week.
This time, he's not letting her go.
She seems so small in his arms. This force of a woman, powerful, brave, and fierce, now a sobbing little girl who wants to hide in his embrace and never leave. Phil feels a lump form in his throat as he thinks of a time when she really was little, when she had no one to hold her and dry her tears, when she had no one to go to. It only makes him hold her tighter and squeeze her against him so hard that he could crush bones if his body wasn't too weak for it.
If only he had known back then. If only he had found her sooner. How many nights did he spend thinking about this? How long had he sat by her bedside after she'd been shot, going over all the what-ifs in his head? For how long had he held her hand against his lips, staring at her pale face, wondering what it would've been like if he had the chance to raise her?
Four years together doesn't feel like enough all of a sudden. He's one foot in the grave; he accepted his fate and made peace with it, but if there's one thing he regrets, it's not having more time with her. If he had found her sooner, they would've had a whole life together; he would've watched her grow up, graduate from the academy, he would've been privileged to see the road she's been on to become who she is now from beginning to end. Instead, he's only a blip in time, there one second and gone the next.
He won't see her restore S.H.I.E.L.D. to its former glory. He won't see her reach the full scope of her gift. He won't be there to watch her finally find the love and happiness she deserves, won't walk her down the aisle like he secretly dreamed he would one day. He won't hear the laughter of her children as they run into his arms with her smile on their faces and call him 'grandpa'.
He wanted that. More than anything, he wanted that.
And now…
Here she is. The daughter he never had but had always wanted. Breaking apart in his arms because soon he'll be gone and there's nothing she can do to stop it. She will try; he has no doubt about that. He can give all the orders he wants, but Daisy will move heaven and earth to keep him alive. It's a futile task, really, but he'd be lying if he said he wouldn't do the same thing if the roles were reversed. He had done the same thing, and they had only known each other for a few weeks at the time.
He already loved her even then. A few short weeks, and she was already everything to him.
A violent sob shakes her frame and makes Daisy cling to him tighter. His jacket strains against his back when she grabs fistfuls of it and trembles, her breath hitching in her throat. This time, when he squeezes his eyes shut, a single tear rolls down Phil’s cheek.
"Daisy..." His voice is breaking.
"No, I can't, I can't..." She shakes her head and chokes on a sob that turns into a wail, muffled only by his shoulder. It's like a knife plunged into his heart and twisted around.
"Shh, shh… It's okay," he whispers into her hair, even though the words taste like ash on his tongue. He's leaving her, it's not going to be okay. Not for a while. She will grieve, she will hurt, she'll need time and space. There will be a hole in her heart that nothing will ever fill again. He knows because the same hole opened in his chest when he held her lifeless body in his arms, blood oozing from two gunshot wounds in her stomach staining his hands red. It was stitched together and closed, but the fear of it reopening again remained, making itself known every time he watched her head out for another mission.
"Daisy," he tries again, Skye at the tip of his tongue. It's the name she had given herself — the name of someone who didn't know her story. Everybody laughed at him for having a hard time getting used to the change in the beginning, but Phil couldn't help it when the name alone made his heart beat louder. Her true name has the same effect on him these days; it pumps life into his veins whenever he says it, and if only that were enough to keep him alive, he'd take it.
Daisy burrows deeper into his shoulder.
"Please don't," she weeps. "Don't tell me it's okay. I can't– I can't do this. I can't lose you."
His hands automatically move to cup her cheeks as he pulls away. When her eyes find his, they are bloodshot and brimming with tears; he makes no attempt to conceal his own. They are both barely holding themselves together, but they need this. Daisy needs this to survive after he is gone.
"Listen to me," Phil pleads, leaning in close. "I might be gone, but I will never leave you, okay? I'll be here," He taps her temple with his finger, then presses his palm right above her heart, "and here."
Tears roll down his face now, and his voice cracks and trembles, but the smile on his face couldn't be brighter. "I don't know if there's Heaven or anything else waiting for me. I didn't stay long enough last time to find out. But whatever happens, I'll be watching over you, Daisy. I promise."
That's the one thing he's absolutely sure of. No matter what the other side holds for him, he is not leaving her side. His teachings, his guidance, his care, it will all help her carry on through life. She'll find him in herself but also in others — a whole bunch of people who love her just as much as he does and will be there for her every step of the way. He might be leaving her, but he's not leaving her alone.
Her hand lands on his over her heart, and holds on tight. It's warm, soft, and so gentle, despite holding the power to crack the world apart. Her eyes stay locked on his own, deep brown wells of pain and sorrow and for a long moment she stays quiet, only looking into his eyes.
"Dad," Daisy sobs out, and Phil feels all the air leave his lungs in one sweep. "Dad, please…"
"Oh, baby girl."
Before the impact of these words can knock him to the floor, Phil crushes her back to him, and he holds her closer than ever before, tighter than his body has the strength for. His back hits the wall with a soft thud as he presses a kiss to her temple and begins sobbing into her hair. Daisy collapses against him, nestling into the crook of his neck, and they both slide down to the chilly concrete floor.
He's not sure how long they sit there. Could be minutes, could be hours. Daisy is curled up across his lap, leaning sideways against him with her head pillowed on his shoulder. Phil rocks her slowly, like a child who wakes up after a nightmare and needs comfort. He wishes it was only that — a bad dream he can chase away, kiss her forehead and dry her tears, then put her back to bed with the promise that no monster can get to her. He holds her, both arms encasing her and keeping her close to his chest, where her palm rests, feeling for the drum of his faint heartbeat through his shirt.
Phil rests his cheek against Daisy’s hair with a sigh. If only it didn’t have to hurt so much. If only there was a way for him to go without leaving her in so much pain.
Her sobs die down after a while, and when they do, she just stays there, limp against him, forcing herself to breathe. She's exhausted, he can tell, and if he wasn't still feeling so weak after fainting earlier, he would've picked her up and carried her to bed. All he can do instead is tuck her closer and let her rest for as long as she needs, right where they are. Wait until she's able to stand back on her feet and walk back to the base with her head held high.
Because she will. And she will let Hell break loose to save him. There will be nothing he can do to stop her.
"I am not giving up on you," Daisy says into the empty space around them, as if reading his mind. Her rough voice scratches against the walls of her throat.
Phil closes his eyes. "I know."
She lifts her head and looks at him. There's fire in her gaze that knows no objection, a determination as strong as her powers are. She's taking her grief, and instead of letting it break her, she's using it to fuel herself.
"Please, don't make me give up on you."
And what can he possibly say to that? He won't convince her. He won't change her mind, just like she won't change his. Daisy has always been stubborn, but so has he, and over time, Phil came to terms with the fact that he might have accidentally bestowed even more of that stubbornness on her.
He smiles, stroking her cheek instead of saying anything, and the way Daisy leans into his touch with a sigh melts him. It's a rare occurrence when they get to be like this, when they allow themselves to be this close and open with each other, and he doesn't take a single second of that for granted. Only wishes it was happening under better circumstances.
"You're good?" He asks, ducking his head to catch her eyes.
Daisy wipes her face with the sleeve of her shirt and nods. "Yeah, I'll be fine."
They both know she won't be, not for a long time. But for now, it's enough. He's not gone yet. They still have time. They still have work to do.
Phil lifts her to her feet, and the two of them take a deep breath, trying not to think about how much of a mess they are. He hasn't let go of her yet, and now Daisy is staring down at their joined hands, her face obscured by a curtain of hair. Her chin wobbles, but Phil is fast; he reaches out and tilts it up, making her look at him.
"You'll be okay," he tells her.
Fresh tears glisten in her eyes.
"How do you know?"
He catches one drop with his thumb.
"Because I know my little girl."
Her smile is everything to him. It's sad and a little shy, her cheeks blush when she drops her head to try and hide it, but it still lights up his chest like fireworks on the Fourth of July. He'll hold onto that smile for as long as he can.
When he wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her to his side, the rest of Daisy's tears are gone. She rests her head on his shoulder, lets him kiss her hair one more time, and as they head back to the others, they both feel somewhat lighter. A lot will change in the next few days; the weight of the world is still on their shoulders, but as long as he's here, Phil can make sure Daisy won't crumble under it.
After all, she's humanity’s shield. And her father's daughter.

Hello! I am OK1610 from ao3. I loved Riddle V.I.Z.ion so much! Such an amazing story with great characters! I loved the aliens especially! Your story inspired me to weave my own tale for these characters as well as a design element for Diz (the support beams) for my refs of the aliens (credited in the post)! I cannot wait to read more about them and their pasts!
Any chance we can get a little sneak peak of what is to come?
('Riddle Classified' sounds like a great name btw!)
Hello!! Lovely to see you again!
Literally had to spin in circles at work when you said my story inspired you, was not prepared; I’m honoured <3 and I hope you have fun creating! You art is so perfect!!! I love how the style is still reminiscent of the game art but far more detailed and much more fun to look at—it’s so vibrant! They’re all super adorable (rotating Quiz in my mind rn) and it looks like such a sweet AU—I’m an absolute sucker for stories where things end well (which I don’t think anyone would guess from my own works XD.) Would be super intrigued to know more when you’re ready to share!
(Definite spoilers for my future Riddle School fic below the cut!)
Dutifully adding a tally to Riddle Classified’s column! I swear the title is going to be the bit I decide last with this thing, it’s certainly giving me the most trouble XD
As for sneak peaks, hmmm; it’s a little early in the process for me to feel like I’ve got much that’s actually interesting to share, but I could tell you about the first chapter? It’s post defection, a few years into the V.I.Z.ion Project, and involves Quiz being kidnapped by bounty hunters/pirates. He has to stall for time, turning them against each other as a distraction, while Viz and Diz sneak around and kill off the people stationed at other outposts before picking him up.
It’s told from the perspective of the pirates, who really have no idea who or what Quiz is, and is set in a snowstorm to really play up a theme of isolation/being trapped. Horror movie vibes. They know something is going on outside, and they know their contacts are going cold one by one, but they can’t figure out why—maybe it’s just the storm like their leader says, maybe it’s something else. They’re stuck with this unknown alien who’s sounding way too plausible when he says the roof might cave in, or there’s something outside, who talks them into telling him the scary stories they’ve heard about rogue soldiers in the area. If they go outside and try to run, they’ll definitely die of exposure, but if they stay? Unclear. And surely nothing out there could be alive. The noises are the wind, just the wind, they’re not in danger, nothing’s getting closer, everything’s fine.
It’s a good opportunity to play with Quiz’s unique skill set of appearing very harmless to manipulate people, gives me the chance to do some exposition on the alien’s species lore, and—most vitally—sets a pretty sinister tone for the V.I.Z.ion crew actually in action! A good jumping off point for what’s to come!
Another chapter I’ve got planned as a definite inclusion (though I don’t know where it’ll go yet; probably late in the collection) is them kidnapping Phil. It’s from Phil’s perspective, and I’ve honestly just been galaxy braining over it for a few nights now; he just barely escapes them when they see him first (runs through populated places they can’t follow, gets on a bus, his dog attacks Quiz when he gets home) and then spends the next few days as Dib from Invader Zim trying to convince his family that Aliens Are Definitely Real And Also After Him. They don’t believe him. One night he wakes up to find that everyone else is knocked out, and the aliens are in the house searching for him. He doesn’t get away this time. Very stressful times for Phil—I don’t think I’ve ever written a non-stressful time for Phil. I don’t think I’ve written a non-stressful time for any of these characters.
With this chapter, I’m hoping to do something with the perspective shift, which is another reason I think it should come late in the formatting. While the aliens are very much villain protagonists in this, having everything be through their eyes will eventually make them familiar—maybe not exactly relatable, but certainly comfortable. The jarring dissonance of exchanging that highly militarised, desensitised perspective to an actually human one—the P.O.V of someone we, the audience, know—when he’s terrified and being hunted by them appeals to me. Particularly as, at that point, I will have written scenes of the V.I.Z.ion aliens interacting with humans from their own perspective, and the difference between what they think and what people think can be thrown into even sharper relief.
I realise I’ve told you about the only two chapters that aren’t from the alien’s direct perspectives, so sorry about that! But I hope they made for a satisfying sneak peak <3 maybe this isn’t what you meant at all… I’ve never actually done a sneak peak before!

Hey,
Your GDF got in my mind while im obsessed with ZZZ of hoyoverse after my big Genshin era. So, i was thinking, can we get an Hydro!Charlie where his "hydro" is green and kinda sus bc is more like slime in texture but Quackity covers Charlie by shockinh the shit out of everything that the slime touches befoure they can make any questions? Also im thinking Inazuma story line here where they are not-so-legal.
Btw do we count in mind the "why gods give vision" here? Bc I was reading to see if we knew more and saw that the old reasion of the Cryo Arcon was Love. And godlord that touch me because it looks so good for Techno. And meanwhile Tubbo is with his fucking War-power Pyro Weapon. Like holy shit why didnt you say this? Anemo being freedom makes it so good for Tommy and Phil. Quackity would have something something eternity [flashbacks of Slime's death] mmmm yeah. This makes me think is Purple can be pyro [lava lmao] or [ofcourse] electro bc...you know...purple? Xd. Charlie and Puffy having Hydro [Justice] sounds so cool. Charlie just wants to be a good 100% human [maybe he has some backstory like Razor?].
Ranboo is so cute with his little air freedom [shadow dream behind] i hope nothing bad ever happends to him.
Can Michael be like Klee, a kid with a vision to young to undertand? So cuteeee.
Going back to Purple, im thinking that we dont have any geo [in the current post that you made and im enjoying like good slime soup] and geo has the arcon of contrats.
And so it begins, the thought of
Do they all have inspired clothes of the zone they are living in?
Quackity in japones inspired clouths sounds like my new dream.
Talking of Dream, can we make him have the most shitty element of all? The one,The ONLY, THE NEW AND WE HOPE IT DIES BC WE DIDNT NEED YOU
Dendro.
JAJAJAJAJA lmao Dream making a flower in mid-fight with [Pyro] Sapnap killing everthing. Which I got to say, I would love Sapnap to be a Catalyst that just uses his bare hands like Tommy. Something like Shikanoin Heizou. While I think Tommy is Fisic attack mostly, Sapnap is full fire in your face.
Mmmmm wait George or Karl would be dendro? LIKE George being supportive by creating circles of healing mushrooms or poisonous mushrooms along with an attitude of Laila fuckinh sleepy in his E xd.
Karl only comes to mind because Dendro is based on wisdom and I imagine him in the library dying like Cheetara [From ThunderCats 2010 or so] in his backstory of childhood and patience. And BOOM vision idk healer? I don't know much about Karl Canon or Fanon but I've seen that we don't have many healers.
This made me think of Sam, who i dont know what to say about him. But im curious what do you think!
Saying this,i hope you didnt mind the use of "we" and also the long monologue in your ask. Hope you find New GDF funny ideas soon!! :D
Have a nice day/night. Ad astra abyssosque!
The fact that you're so invested in this absolutely warms my heart! I don't mind the "we" at all, I'm super glad when people add their own ideas to my aus (doesn't happen that often but oh well...)
I was considering Charlie but I wasn't entirely sure how to cross the hydro with slime, so I'm DEFINITELY using that. Most characters have some gimmick after all, so him having green as a main color (when blue is associated the most with hydro) and his gimmick being slime is very cool.
I haven't thought that much about interactions with other existing regions past Phil maybe being from Inazuma to explain his clothes and Puffy sailing to Liyue and Fontaine, which is how the Traveler would get to DSMP. Mainly because I want to have a concrete base for the DSMP region first before I start having the characters go elsewhere. But I will keep stuff like this in mind!
As for the vision reasons. See I haven't considered them that much because I want to have at least a somewhat balanced amount of each weapon and vision type and also I just don't know them that well. For some, like Ranboo, I did go off the freedom reason in Anemo, but for a lot I just went with what sorta felt right or fit the character's storyline or gimmick somewhat. So Puffy was hydro because she's a pirate and uses her vision to control the ship. Q was Electro because he uses his vision to power Las Nevadas.
I had 0 idea about the cryo-love connection and rest assured, the only reason I made Techno cryo is because Arctic empire. However, ehm, let's say it's because love, that sounds cooler <3
I've considered making Tommy Anemo. I made him Pyro because of the whole "passion" thing, but with how many other characters would fit Pyro (Jack, Sapnap, Wilbur, the character not the guy, don't come for me pls, I don't like mentioning him either) I don't want to have too much of them so maybe I'll change it. It would definitely make the matching clingyduo claymores even cuter because they don't match visions anymore so the reason Tommy does it is because he wants to match SOMETHING.
Continuing, yeah I just. Didn't consider the reasons for visions. However you did name a couple characters I haven't considered at all so I will be going off of these suggestions.
I cannot guarantee Ranboo's safety <3 but he is a playable characters and they don't die in genshin. Doesn't mean he'll be 100% ok tho <3
I didn't think of mobs as playable characters, mainly because I just thought of members, however Micheal being the first chibi male character in the entire game is just too good to pass up on. Prepare little pig boy, you're about to have some magic. What kind? No idea yet, lemme think.
I've briefly mentioned making Skeppy a geo bow (cuz crystals) but I haven't been able to think of any other geo characters. Making Purpled geo because contracts is a cool idea though, I like it.
Thing is, DSMP is a region on its own. Like I said, Phil might be from Inazuma and move prior to Traveler getting there and maybe some other characters are originally from other regions, but at the point where Traveler gets there, they're all in the DSMP. Maybe they could visit and like/buy some clothes tho! Like I said, haven't considered it much, will later on
Oh I have PLANS for Dream. I'll say more in the post about the DSMP's Archon, but in this region, he's the human form of XD, same style as Venti/Nahida/Zhongli and the only wielder of his power because of it. He doesn't wear a fake vision because he pretends he's visionless. As the Archon XD, he's notorious for not giving out visions because he's selfish and doesn't believe anyone else is worthy of it, so he's the only playable character with those powers. As for what powers I'm still working that out, but something along the lines of decay or rot and very few interactions with existing elements. As for making him Dendro. Damn, calm down, it'll be ok /j hajshshshs
Sapnap having the same style as Heizou but Pyro does fit him a lot, I do like that. And we have only one other catalyst so far so yeah. Welcome to the team. You're a DPS and a support. How? Idk I haven't thought of skills and bursts much yet.
I HAVE considered Dendro George for the mushrooms with both the healing spores and the poison spores. Not sure what weapon to give him yet, maybe he joins the catalysts, maybe a bow, not rlly keen on giving him a claymore, for the others it's meh, not sure not sure. We'll see.
I have NOT considered Dendro Karl, but you connecting it with the wisdom thing kinda has me convincedddddd. No idea what his powers would be though, but it is true we don't have a lot of healers. However my genshin lineup only has Barbara and Charlotte as healers and Charlotte is 20 levels under AND I DON'T BITCH ABOUT IT EITHER (I do bitch about it. It's awful. Hoyo pls just let me pull for a healer I need it desperately)
As for Sam I've considered either Electro because Redstone, or Dendro for a combination of creeper plus wisdom with how good he is at the mechanics stuff. He'd probably be similar to Navia where he attacks mostly with his weapon but the last attack he does with some sort of mechanical contraption like she does with her umbrella. Not a machine gun, tho that would be funny. Imagine you're like a hilichurl and you're fighting this guy with a sword and suddenly he goes "fuck it" And pulls out a machine gun.
Look at me, you got me rambling! /pos

Anyway, chapter 3. I love the slow transition. Normally it’s always a sudden transition. Something fast but painful that has the person barely coherent. But it’s a slow transformation now. And it started with the damn singing. Phil! Why! He shot himself in the fin he did.
It’s also very fun how the conflict of last chapter continues in this one. Still mostly in the background except for the last scene. That conflict is Techno being of the (frankly correct) opinion that they should ask Wilbur if he wants to be turned, while Phil is clearly of the turn-first-explain-after opinion. Now it makes sense why he first asked Wilbur if he wanted to sign when Techno wasn’t there. So he couldn’t interfere. The silent conversation is fun to and [“Something you’re gonna have to get Phil to explain, because I’m definitely not gonna do it for him,”] is a mood and a half.
Techno seems incredibly conflicted about this whole thing, but I respect that he’s not going to clean up Phil’s mess. Phil gets the full consequences of his actions. Which is a sad hurt and betrayed Wilbur who arguably gets more consequences for Phil’s actions. Poor kid. Phil really screwed up the trust department. But of course Wilnir is already attached and maybe if Phil had ASKED Wilbur would actually want to become a mer. Instead, we get a terrified child who doesn’t know what’s happening to him until he does and isn’t exactly pleased he has little to no control over it.
Also, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t gush over the foreshadowing for the transformation (or the process really). So first there’s the singing. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but as a singed I really liked the way you described Wilbur learning to sign and all the vocal exercises. That being said, being able to hit really high notes in his chest voice is suspicious. And now we know it’s because his vocal cords where doing a little more than just stretching.
The this chapter there are the nails, which are very obvious. The sore legs which I thought was because they were turning into a tail, which they still are, but apparently it’s growing scales first. The much more subtle, Wilbur being able to make and understands the clicks. Then there’s the sharper teeth. The constant need to be in the sea + the pain stopping when in the water. Not feeling safe on land/with the humans, but feeling safe in the water/with the mer. And of course, the big discovery that Wilbur is growing scales (he’s going to be a little golden boy), which leads to Wilbur’s distressed trill. It’s nice.
Also, poor Phil really loves this kid. Like he got there fast. As fast as any half-decent parent who hears a trill of distress from their kid. And then he has to tell Wilbur he’s turning into a mer and we get exactly what Phil was scared of. Which is an angry Wilbur running away. And this is what I mean with Phil shooting himself in the fin. Because he was trying to avoid the conversation, trying to avoid that outcome, but in doing so he obviously only made it worse when Wilbur found out.
But because Wilbur doesn’t want to be a mer (though we’ll see how he feels when (if) he calms down and has a moment to think away it) Wilbur no can’t be near him. Even if he wanted to, it would continue to turn him into a mer. So unless Wilbur changes him mind or is too far into the process to stop it, Phil will never see him again. And if Phil had just asked, Wilbur might has initially said no and the. Come around to the idea. Poor damn Techno. He knew that was the way you are supposed to do it. And he was being such a loving and caring uncle too. His protectiveness kicked in almost instantly. And he did the throwing! There’s nothing more valuable than an adult who throws you when near water.
-🌲
yeah I LOVE slow transformations that aren't obvious at first but become more clear over time. just the idea that something is wrong but the person being transformed isn't sure what it is. it's that slow, creeping dread of realization that I adore and I really wanted to explore that here
techno is so tired he knows this is a bad idea for many reasons but phil just assumes he knows best. he thinks it won't be as big of a deal as it is, because he doesn't fully understand human emotions. humans are hard to predict and take betrayals hard. techno knows this, but phil doesn't. at least not fully.
if phil had asked wilbur would have said yes!! that's the worst part!! but phil just assumed he knew wilbur and that it would be fine. it wasn't, but that's what he thought would happen. techno's not cleaning his mess up for him. he's gotta deal with this himself.
YEAHHH i know it is possible to hit some higher notes from your chest voice with practice, but there's a natural limit to it. what wilbur has been doing is not possible with human vocal chords.
yup then there all the things from this chapter. it's everything you listed. physical traits, but also his behavior. the feelings of safety/not being able to sleep without mer around is more to do with his age rather than just the mer transformation. baby mer are very dependent on their caretakers, so when a child is being turned into a mer they want to stick close to the water because it's safer that way
phil really does love wilbur. he's just a bit stupid with the decisions he makes. but of course the minute he heard wilbur was in distress he got there instantly, only for things to go so wrong so fast
literally nothing more valuable than an adult who throws you as far in the water as they can

Fate Of Journeys
Ch 1: New beginnings
Tw: swearing
Wilbur walked towards the palace eagerly. He was going to see his childhood friends, Prince Technoblade and Prince Tomathy. The guards knew Wilbur. He had been coming to palace every day since he was 5. He had met the princes when the were visiting the Sunday market. They talked and played till Tommy and Techno had to go. They had vowed to stay friends that day and always found a way to be with the other. That was years ago. Wilbur is now 21, Techno was 23 and Tommy was 17. The group was meeting to discuss their plans. They’ve had this plan every since wilbur and techno were tweens. After Tommy turned 18, they would set sail and see all the distant lands. They wanted to sail the seas and climb mountains. King Phil didn’t know about this plan and today was the day when they would pitch their idea. Wilbur walked through the marble halls towards the library. Tommy had his lessons there. Techno would be reading a book and waiting for Will like usual. Wilbur smiled as he opened the huge oak doors to reveal the library. From floor to ceiling were shelves with books. Everything you would have ever wanted to know was in those books. The chandeliers hung down from the roof, glistening the walls with golden light. Father back was a balcony with windows and a loft, Techno’s favorite spot. Wilbur moved towards the mahogany tables with gold designs. There sat Tommy, writing in a notebook, while his tutor was talking to him about ancient history of L’manburg. A city long forgotten by many of the nobles but not by Lumena. Wilbur passed by them and went to the loft where Techno was. “My man, the Blade, how are you,” Wilbur asked as he sat on one of the velveteen chairs. Techno looked up and nodded in response. Classic Techno. “Are you ready for today? It’s finally come.” Wilbur studies Techno’s fair skin and glistening red eyes. Techno grabs a band and ties his hair in a bun. “Yeah I’m ready. But what if he declines? All that hard work, saving, and hoping for nothing.” “Then we can improvise,” Wilbur exclaims. Tommy comes in and plops himself next to Will. “I swear one of these days I’m gonna sucker punch my tutor,” Tommy exclaims and sighs as he leans against Will’s leg. “We have about thirty minutes before lunch with Phil. What ya wanna do?” Tommy says as taps his notebook. “Read,” Techno says as he flips a page in his book. “That’s fucking boring Tech,” Tommy whines. “How about we….walk in the gardens.” Wilbur smiles as he gazes between Techno and Tommy. They both look very different from each other and more different from their parents. Tommy takes up the image of Phil, with golden blonde hair and striking blue eyes. Techno has long pink hair, pinkish like skin, and ruby red eyes. Most would say he looked adopted but he wasn’t. Rumors are just rumors and Wilbur would never believe them. “Sure,” Techno says as he closes his book and tucks it in his satchel. Tommy jumps up and starts to run to the library door. “Last one there is a fucking pussy!” The trio walked into the outside terrace. The table and chairs were glistening in the sun and there sat King Phil and Queen Kristin. Everyone was luscious and beautiful and grand. Techno took his seat next to Phil and Tommy next to Kristin. Wilbur sat down as the maids began bringing the food on platters. A plate of pesto chicken with roasted potatoes was placed in front of Wilbur. The food always tasted good because of Niki, the head chef. Many times the trio snuck in the kitchen to taste some of her delicious ginger snap cookies or her blueberry pie. Oh the memories. Wilbur’s reminiscing is interrupted by Techno clearing his throat. All eyes are on him and Will realizes he missed a conversation and it’s probably time for them to reveal the plan.
Wilbur swallowed and begun his speech. “Phil, Kristin, as you know it’s gonna be Tommy’s birthday in a month. We’ve been talking about this since me and Techno were teens. I feel like this would be really nice for all of us but…..I don’t know if you’ll approve. Will you allow me, Tommy, and Techno to go on a journey to distant lands and see the world?” Wilbur bites his lip thinking the worst. “Of course mate! It’ll be lovely to gain some new allies and you’ll see things you’ve never seen before.” The trio exhaled happily, now knowing their trip would be a reality. “A toast to the adventurers,” Tommy exclaimed as he raised his glass high. “Toast to the adventurers!”
—— — ———
Tommy, Wilbur and Techno walk along the luscious trees and flowers in the garden. The smell of orange blossoms and roses filled the air with their sweet, sweet scent. The dandelions, tulips, and ferns were in full bloom. Tommy stopped to pull some and started to weave a flower crown. Wilbur pulled out his polariod camera and began taking pictures. Suddenly, he feels motion on his head and turns to see Tommy behind him. He puts a hand to his and feels flowers weaved together. “Thanks child.” “IM NOT A FUCKING CHILD YOU BITCH!” “But you’re younger than both of us,” Techno chimes in. “That doesn’t FUCKING matter asshat.” Tommy says as he goes into the flower beds and picks some more. “Tommy stop stepping on the flowers. You know the wrath of mom when her flowers are stepped on.” “Shit sorry,” Tommy says softly as he carefully steps out. They continue walking through the splendid garden until a maid comes from inside and tells them that lunch is served.

Chapter 8
I haven't told Jake about the baby yet. I've been trying to work out a way to tell me but I haven't managed to get the words out. Everytime I go to tell him the words get stuck in my throat. The only person I have been able to tell is Jessy. I can't keep anything from her. She seemed quite relieved that it's not Phil's baby. She tried to hide it but it was written all over her face. Jake and Emma have been busy with their wedding planning Jake always apologizes if he's late coming round. I don't know how much more of this I can take. I can't keep seeing Jake like this even if I do love him. He's getting married to Emma so he's made his choice he wants to be with her.
Saturday night and I would normally be going out but instead I am stuck inside the apartment. I'm sitting on the sofa watching some trashy TV show, my mind drifting off to Jake. I grab my phone and do what needs to be done.
MC: Hi Jake, I can't do this face to face again. Call me a coward if you want but it's over Jake this time for good. You are getting married soon and I don't want to be that other woman. I don't want to be the woman that gets promised that you will leave your wife for me. Goodbye Jake I hope you have a happy life with Emma. I really hope that one day we can be at least friends. Love MC xx
I put my phone back down and my heart feels heavy but I know I have done the right thing. I can't carry on like this. I need to move on with my life and find someone that I want to be with that isn't getting married or who isn't already married. My first priority is this unborn baby, it's just going to be me and this little jelly bean. I can stand on my own two feet. It's time I took charge of my life instead of making stupid decisions. I'm going to show the world that I am not just some stupid emotional mess that can't live without a man.
It was the day of the wedding. I hadn't spoken or seen Jake since I sent that message to him. He tried phoning me but I didn't pick up. The jelly bean is growing so fast my bump is really showing now. I still haven't told Jake I am pregnant nor will I. This baby is mine. He has his new life now. This choice might make me selfish but I no longer care Jessy has tried to get me to tell him but I refuse to. Jessy got invited to the wedding. She tried to get me to go but I told her no. It really wouldn't be a good idea because if I do I will lose my self-control and blurt everything out. It's not far to Emma. She loves Jake and she wants to be with him.
Yes, part of me doesn't like that she's with him but I can't hold anything against her. She's a nice person. I'm trying to keep myself busy doing anything I can to keep my mind off what is happening today.
Jake's POV
Today is the day I get married not to the women of my dreams but to someone I hope I can grow to love. I've just finished getting myself ready for the wedding. I look at myself in the mirror and try to make the best of what I've got. I look at my phone and reread the last message MC ever sent me. It brings a tear to my eye and an ache in my heart. I miss her so much. I know I can not have her. She has chosen to move on and that is what I must do now. There is a knock at the door that breaks me out of my thoughts. I go to answer it and see Jessy standing there with a concerned look. "I know this is your big day and everything but I need to talk to you Jake" I stand to one side and let Jessy come in. "What's wrong Jessy? Is MC okay?" I watch as Jessy walks up and down before turning to me. "Jake I have to tell you something MC will kill me for saying but" just as Jessy was about to finish her sentence there was another knock at the door.
Before I got to answer the door it burst open and in came my mother "Jake look at my handsome boy I'm so proud" I felt my cheeks starting to turn a little red so I quickly tried to change the subject. "Mum this is Jessy, Jessy this is my mum Jill" Jessy and my mum shared a hug and greeted each other. "Is my boy all ready for the big day? I've just seen Emma and she looks beautiful in her dress" my heart feels like it's about to stop but I can't let my fears get in the way. I finish getting ready and put on my suit jacket and get ready to leave for the church. I could still feel Jessy's eyes burning into the back of my head but I didn't stop to find out what she wanted to tell me. MC is in my past now I need to move forward in my life.
Just as I made my way to the reception area the car pulled up outside the hotel. I can hear Jessy calling after me but I choose to ignore her and get in the car. As the car drives down the road I look out the window at all the passing people getting on with their day. I arrive at the church and I see so many people already there all gathered in their seats. I make my way towards the front of the aisle and sit down. I have so many emotions running around in my head I keep questioning if I am doing the right thing. Should I have tried harder to be with MC? Or should I just let her move on with her life.
It's time for me to take my place at the front and I watch Emma walk down the aisle with a big smile on her face. She reaches me and I list the veil over her head. The vicar is already to start the wedding. When he gets to the part asking if anyone has anything to say I want to speak and end this madness. When I'm about to speak up a voice from the back shouts I look back and see Jessy standing up. "Jake you can't do this you don't love her you love MC"
I turn to Emma and her face is full of so many emotions tears start to drop from her eyes "is this true Jake? Do you really still love her? I turn to Emma and take her hand. "It's not true Emma I love you" Jessy rushes towards the front of the church. "Jake you can't do this MC is pregnant with your baby" my mouth drops open I can't believe what Jessy has just told me. "What? Is that true Jessy? Is she really pregnant?" The look in Jessy's eyes says it all. "Yes Jake it's true, you need to go see you now Jake" I let go of Emma's hand and looked towards the back of the church at the doors. "I'm sorry Emma I can't do this" I let go of Emma's hands and ran out of the church.
I get so sick of watching TV that I decide to put on some music and sit by the window and draw. I haven't done this in awhile; it's something that always helped me sort through my problems. I always found it easier to draw my emotions by putting them onto paper. It's somewhat therapeutic. Lost in what I was doing my phone started ringing. I looked over and saw that it was Jessy. "Hey what's up? Wedding of the century over already" I could sense panic in Jessy's voice. "MC I'm so sorry but I told him, I stood up in front of everyone in the church and told him I'm so sorry" the phone started to fall from my hand hitting the floor. How could she do this to me? I never wanted Jake to find out and if he did I never wanted it to find out like this.
All of a sudden there was a knock at my door. I knew straight away who was standing on the other side. I walked over to the door and slowly answered it and there he was standing right in front of me. Before I could say anything Jake wrapped his arms around me I was in total shock. "Jake what are you doing? I thought you were getting married?" Jake slowly let go of me and looked my body up and down. "Why didn't you tell me MC? Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?" I have a million answers going around my head but before I could answer them I asked Jake to come in. "Look Jake, the reason why I didn't tell you was because I didn't want to be that person that broke you and Emma up"
I watched as Jake sat down on the chair still looking at my baby bump. "I could have been there for you MC, I want to be there for you and the baby" As much as I admire Jake's words I wouldn't have wanted him to do that. "Jake this is why I didn't want to tell you you would have left Emma. It's not fair on her Jake. You can't just do that to someone Jake it's not fair" I walk over and sit near Jake as I let him think about what I've said. "But MC I still love you I always have, I want to be with you" I can't be that person not anymore I can't let him do this.
"Jake I can't let you do this as much as it hurts you should go back and marry Emma it's the right thing to do" I see a look on Jake's face that I've never seen before, a look of a man that's just lost everything. "MC I can't go back I don't want to go back I love you so much I left Emma at the church i couldn't marry her I don't love her I love you"

An Enchanted Evening
INTO THE WOODS Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, Sunday 30thApril 2023 Tackling this masterwork by the late, great Stephen Sondheim is no easy task. It requires a large cast of excellent actor-singers to pull off its dissonant melodies and to breathe life into the often complex and witty lyrics. I’m happy to report that the Crescent rises to the challenge and succeeds. Impressively. The story…

Post-AGT Appearance 1293: Nightside with Dan Rea April 9
I would have recorded a country album but have no specific plans for when to release it. Then I would get very sick and spend the night of March 28 in the hospital. My voice would not have recovered as yet.
Toad woman of Tennessee would have ended its run at $235 million domestic March 24. Dune part 2 would have passed it for highest domestic gross on Easter. Man of my Dreams would have dropped to 25, 27 and then 28 the last 2 weeks.
Though he would be in second place, Burgum would have dropped out on March 16. Haley would have remained in the race, but Trump and Biden would have won every primary since, clinching their respective nominations April 2.
On March 21 the Colbert people would have contacted me, instructing me that it was time to reveal the last name on Phillip's list to one individual. I would have met the man at home on March 25 and revealed the name. It would take him only a few minutes to determine that the person could not be a guest on the show.
This morning the show would have contacted me, telling me they were going to announce the date for pulling the plug on tonight's show. I was to prepare a comment, intending to say nothing else until the big day. After talking to my agent for a while we would decide on the best possible comment. Colbert would have an extended opening tonight and make the announcement at 11:53 pm. At that same moment every website and social media platform would also post my comment. The first to quote me would be Dan Rea on Nightside with Dan Rea on WBZ in Boston, just before the end of his show (midnight).
Rea: We have breaking news just this minute. Some of you may be familiar with the fictional character Phillip the Boston intellectual. He's a product of Phillip and Cole's Variety Team and his schtick is that he gets sick when he hears the name Donald Trump, among others. Well, this man has been in a coma since the Democratic primary, his fate in the hands of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Well they just announced that they are going to pull the plug on May 22. That's a...Wednesday I guess. In response Phil Cole said, quote:
PBC: No comment.
Rea: So everyone will be talking about that tomorrow. For now this is Dan Rea saying, good night.

12/7 Steve Hackett @ Ferrara Summer Festival
