Illumination Of Farrokhzad
I speak from the deep end of night.Of end of darkness I speak.THE GIFT I speak of deep night ending. O kind friend, if you visit my house, bring me a lamp, cut me a window,so I can gaze at the swarming alley of the fortunate. THE GIFT – trans. Sholeh Wolpé The summer left long ago, reluctantly, trailing warmth behind her, and in swept autumn, as the leaves left their trees, and this year…

Mirza Ghalib: most popular Urdu poet
Tumblr media
Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan was born in Kala mahal, Akbarabad, Mughal Empire on December 27, 1797. This location is currently located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was a poet from India who wrote under the pen names Ghalib and Asad. His honorific was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. The already declining Mughal empire was overtaken and superseded by the Colonial British Raj during his lifetime, and he was eventually overthrown following the First Indian War of Independence in 1857. These incidents are described in depth in his work. He wrote in both Urdu and Persian. Despite the fact that his Persian Divan is at least five times the length of his Urdu Divan, his popularity is largely on his Urdu poetry.
Ghalib’s existence was one of constant misery, anguish, and grief, with the exception of a brief period in his early youth. He was descended from a prominent family of Seljuqid Turks. His forefathers served in the Mughal and East India Company armies. He was born in Agra in 1797. Abdullah Beg Khan, Ghalib’s father, was slain in combat when he was just five years old. Ghalib was raised by his uncle Nasullah Beg Khan when his father died, but he died when he was nine years old. Ghalib was now living with his mother’s affluent parents, whose indulgence towards him resulted in him developing unfrugal habits and falling to teenage indulgences that would later be responsible for many of his problems.

In many ways the twenty-first century is not that different from the thirteenth century. Both will be recorded in history as times of unprecedented religious clashes, cultural misunderstandings, and a general sense of insecurity and fear of the other. At times like these, the need for love is greater than ever.
