Character Bedrooms
Amelia
It was a small room, her bed and desk only a few steps apart, her wardrobe with just enough space to open the doors and stand in front of the mirror and no more. The walls were painted an inoffensive magnolia, the carpet dark and unremarkable. But she had draped her beds wooden headboard with fairy lights, the comforter a patchwork quilt, the pillows having a hint of frills. The curtains that hung beside the bed were floral (as was the delicate perfume in the air, roses and something else, something light).
The second hand desk was painted white, a stool tucked neatly in the alcove. On the desk, there’s in-progress projects, open sketchpads, pencils in caddies, paintbrushes in muddy water glasses. Above the desk, there’s a pinboard. It’s covered in postcards, small art prints, photographs, handwritten notes. There’s a forgotten cup of tea in a large patterned mug. There’s two lamps - a short one with an orange shade, apparently used for ambience and a white posable one, used for when she sketched into the night. Peeking out from under the bed were stacks of worn paperbacks, nearly all of them classics, some of them tea-stained or dogeared.
Cramped, but tidy. Safe, warm, hers. It’s seen best in the evening, when gold light pours in from the window, only momentarily dimmed by the lace draped across the glass. If there was just one word you could use to describe Amelia’s sanctum, it was ‘cosy’.

Cherry Blossom
It had belonged to two boys once. Now it housed one, he wasn’t quite sure what to do with the extra space. It was a bare little room, white washed walls and a concrete floor. There was no door, only a beaded curtain in the entryway. No curtains, only a pinned up sheet. A window looked out onto the bustling street - their flat was above a busy shop and peace was hard to come by. Cherry didn’t mind and usually kept the window open. He couldn’t stand silence.
His bedroll sat flush to the wall on one side of the room, pillow and blanket resting haphazardly on top. On the wall itself, several street posters and instruction manual pages were stuck up. Mostly they were from the Brocade Guard but occasionally there were instances of circuses or performers.
His clothes were (or at least, an attempt at) folded at the foot of the bed. A crate sat on it’s side, making a makeshift bedside table. Within it there were a few books, a notepad, some leaking inks, some tangled hand wraps and a first aid kit. Now, if you were particularly observant you might notice two things. One, a number of his belongings were very slightly scorched. Two, there were some papers tucked under his bedroll, one corner just peaking out to show a signature from someone called Duty.

Astrid
An explosion of pink. A beacon of girlhood. An utter mess. It’s a room that is used and lived in and used as a staging area. Clothes are scattered far and wide, in shades of bright pink and blue. It’s tiny as all the rooms in the Tenements are, but she’d made it her own. One wall is blue, another pink, one is half painted violet. A custom neon sign flickers intermittently. On the floor, there’s a fluffy faux fur rug in (what else?) pink. The bed (unmade) is just big enough for two. There are no windows.
A chest of drawers sits impotently, mostly used for balancing a mirror, a selection of fans, perfume bottles and two jewellery boxes. One contains accessories, spilling out and glittering. The other contains some folded up credits and several small bags of white powder and bright pills. The mirror itself is layered with a hundred lipstick kisses. There’s one or two in a darker shade, indicating that Syn had been here and left her mark.
There’s a door leading to an ensuite bathroom where another mirror lives above a sink. The sink is splattered with make up in every conceivable shade, containers balanced precariously on the porcelain and a fine layer of glitter coats the taps. On the floor, with the wire trailing in from the bedroom, there’s a hair curler. On the back of the door, on a hanger, as if waiting for something, is a kimono.
________________________________________________________________
Sacrifice
Once the door clicks shut, it’s impossible to tell where it was. The walls and ceiling and floor are a slick, reflective black. There’s an odd sort of light, enough to make the place a room of mirrors. At first, you think it shows you yourself, standing alone in the echoing blackness. A little longer, and you might see other movements, far back in the fractals. It looks like someone you lost.

Tommy
Tommy technically had four rooms. The shrine to his childhood that his parents undoubtably still maintained, his bedroom at Jones’s, the apartment in Kos with Asclepius and then finally, this one. The one he used as an office and could hole himself up in for weeks at a time - if he didn’t make sure he was there for Jones, which he did. However, the one in Asshole Towers is the most interesting, so we’ll focus our gaze there.
There was technically a bed in there, making it a bedroom. It was a single one, with generic blue and white sheets. The walls too were a generic blue and white, painted by someone who knew his gender and little else. It was a pleasingly large room, being an attic conversion, though that meant the ceilings and angles sometimes sloped or sat alarmingly, waiting to cause a bump on the head. There was no wardrobe, no couch, nothing really adding any sort of comfort to the place. What there was was information.
The wall next to the bed was covered in papers. Pinned, cellotaped and blue tacked. There were newspaper articles, handscrawled notes, pages from books, odd photographs, postcards, maps, tickets and paintings and more. It spread up like mold, covering even the sloping ceiling above his bed. Pieces of string connected them, colour coded with a quick key of what the colours meant scrawled near the light switch.
Another wall was covered by a huge, dark bookcase. The bottom shelf was occupied by heavy leather tomes, the spines peeling with age. As the shelves went up, so did the relative age of the books, the top shelf apparently devoted to Penguin books of myths and basic fairytales.
There was not one, but two desks. One held a laptop, a desk lamp and a stack of books. The drawers were full of pens, notepads and other various bits of useful stationary. The other desk looks like a chemistry lab from the eighteen hundreds. A small iron cauldron sat, surrounded by test tubes and loose plant ingredients. The drawers belonging to that one were rather more chaotic. There was a filofax of untested spells, a calculator, yet more pouches, packets and tubes. The one below that held ritual daggers, old coins, various candles and colours of ribbon. The bottom one held... Medicine bottles and packets? It was almost full, Tommy’s full name printed neatly on the side of each, along with a date from several years ago.
There was one more set of shelves, opposite the desks. One held an odd mix of objects. Olive oil, a small carving of an owl, a waxen heart, a portrait of a peacock, a twist of vine leaves and a small metal snake. Standing aside from the rest, there was an ankh with ‘Ra’ engraved on it. There was also a krater neatly tucked to the side, holding a miniature bottle of wine and a clear vial of water.
The shelf below that had a stone carving from an asklepion, a triskele in ancient copper and a lightning bolt in steel, all set equal distances apart from one another as if in respect. The bottom shelf had several shoeboxes tucked in there. The first held letters, some impossibly old, some simply the age of a grandparent. The second box held more valuable magic items - a glimmering ruby, a candle holder shaped like skeletons and other, more mysterious things. This was his magic room and therefore his work room - sentimental gifts and photos adorned his room with Jones.
The final wall only had one thing to decorate it. Tommy had spray painted a sigil of a labyrinth right onto the wall, the black paint running just a little. Despite the room being busy, it somehow seemed to dominate, pulling the eye straight to it.

Ash’s Childhood Bedroom
She shared a bedroom with her sister. Technically there were enough rooms in the house for them to have separate ones, but they had chosen to stay together. Luckily it was large. Two single beds lay against opposite, lavender walls. It was undoubtedly feminine, filled with soft pastels and frills. It is, however, abundantly clear who’s side of the room is who’s.
Violet’s side has a bed coated in teddies. There seems to be hundreds of the bright, fluffy objects. When she was asleep there, it was hard to see her amongst them, looking as doll like as she ordinarily did. There were a few picture books tucked neatly on the window ledge, along with a wind up music box and a selection of disney DVDs. There was a small chest of drawers opposite the end of her bed and a few pink toy boxes tucked underneath. Secreted under her pillow was a lipgloss and mascara she had almost certainly stolen from Ash.
The most obvious difference on Ash’s side was the band posters. They were pinned up beside her bed clumsily, slightly tilted. They were a little frayed at the edges, well loved or cut from magazines. Amongst them there were snapshots of her with girls her own age, usually laughing or pouting, posing for the camera. A laptop sat on top of a deep purple blanket, stickers covering the pink case.
Her chest of drawers was a little over-packed, the top drawer unable to close completely, shirts spilling out of it. There was a jumble of converse sitting at the bottom, kicked off and abandoned. On top of the drawers, a mirror sat, eyeliner and cheap eye shadow palettes cluttered around it. There were also childish pieces of jewellery, bright and plastic, or merchandise from various gigs. There was a small bedside table tucked flush to the side. Under the lamp, a family photograph was framed, and then one of just the sisters. There were books stacked in the alcove below the drawer. They were mostly YA novels, one or two schoolbooks mixed in with them carelessly.
The middle of the room was a jumble of objects. Toys mixed with schoolbags, Ash’s jackets mixed with Violet’s pyjamas. A wastepaper basket contained empty soda cans and screwed up childish sketches. It wasn’t quite enough to be a mess - their mother saw to that. But both of her daughters had the unfortunate habit of walking into their room shedding everything in their eagerness to be done with school.

Horatio
His room is technically in the servants’ quarters, though everyone and their mother who works there knows he spends much more time in his master’s room than his own. It’s a simple place, two steps down into a stone room, scrubbed clean with pride. You might notice a slight looseness on one of the steps - inspect it and a stone comes away, revealing a gap where a swathe of letters sit, tied together with a blue ribbon. There’s one window, set high in the wall so it peeks out at the ground level of an impeccably maintained garden.
There’s a bed pressed underneath it, a wooden carved frame and a knitted blanket sitting on top, a sign of love from the cook or matron perhaps. It looks comfortable, though the mattress is no longer firm with age and the pillow poking out with a few feathers. But then, a bed in the servants’ quarters is always going to be considered comfortable. Next to the bed there’s a neat, if precarious, stack of books on magic.
There’s a shelf on the opposite wall above a mirror and basin. On the shelf, a few carved figures sit, momentos from a childhood he was apparently not entirely free from, no matter how long he lived in a manor. There were also a few withered, dried flowers and scorched unidentified objects. Early experiments. The only other object in the room was a wardrobe, oddly full compared to the sparseness of the rest of the space. There were outfits from plain white shirts and aprons for dashing about in the kitchen to lush evening jackets - though never quite as beautiful as his employers of course. No matter what, he was still a ward after all. Otherwise, he’d have a room upstairs.

Matthias
Like everything Matthias keeps in his life, it’s beautiful. Walk through the west wing of the villa, open the end door and here you are. One wall is completely open, spaced out with carved pillars. The view looks out over the mountains of Kahraman and the small grove of trees that his parents have managed to cultivate here. For when the weather (rarely) turns, there are thick curtains to pull across between the pillars, turning it into a wall of sorts. The floor is tiled and shines brightly, reflecting the candles that light the room.
The room is dominated by two things: his bed and the pool. The bed is four poster with thin crimson curtains and soft red sheets, edged with gold fringe. It was piled high with pillows of every shape and colour, making it almost impossible to actually lie in the bed. There was a small, but still intimidatingly large, mountain lion asleep on the bed. The pool was at the far end of the room. It was shallow, the mosaic pattern (a flame, naturally) at the bottom clearly visible. It was his fancy to drink syrah on hot days, his feet resting in the cool water and perfectly angled to gaze out over the nation.
There’s a three chests in a row against the third wall, underneath a long stretch of mirror. They hold his clothes, once they were all mixed together but now one belongs to Flame, to Dust, to Glass. They look like treasure chests and to him, they are. There’s another mirror on a different wall, but this time a shelf stretches underneath it. On the shelf sits small coloured pots of paint and moisturiser, paintbrushes and flakes of gold. There’s jewellery too, chains to hang from his antlers and neck, jewels to sit on his fingers, twists of gold to serve as a bed. There’s also a small bowl that glitters beautiful, over spilling with mana crystals. In a much more official looking box, engraved with a labyrinth is some small bottles of liao.
There’s art dotted around, from blown glass vases to a painted mask from the League, a book from Highguard that has hastily been bound in orange fabric, a firmly locked display case for his coin and resources. Glass and metal lanterns hung from the ceiling and scented candles burnt. The most striking art though is the wall beside his bed. There’s portraits, dozens of them. Those with sharp eyes might notice such famed kohan from the Golden Harpies and an unsmiling portrait from Sol, perhaps a little tear stained. There’s others with very dramatic red crosses slashed across them. Matthias does not handle break ups well.
This was not his only room of course. He was a Freeborn. This place was a base, a place for his family to use as storage, to come and go, to arrange to meet. There were also the tents he resided in and that often formed around the villa to house every one of his relatives of which there were many. His sisters scorned permanent rooms altogether, much preferring their tents or the open expense of the sky - at least until it rained.

Trick
Trick’s room was the smallest, bar the bathroom. He called it a cupboard with pretentions, fondly but with a more than a hint of truth in it. When you opened the door too harshly, it immediately cracked against the wardrobe that sat directly next to the frame. In order to make it so he could open the wardrobe, he had disregarded a bed frame and there was just a mattress and a tangle of blankets on the floor. There was a small metal radiator underneath the sliding window, painted white with flaking paint. The walls were not in better shape, condensation and heat causing it to curl at the edges. It was not an attractive room.
He had made it his though. Posters of The Smiths, The Cure and Blondie splattered the walls, along with a hundred Polaroids of him and the Burnouts in a hundred different poses and situations. Almost half of them were solely of him and Mel, arms around each other, pulling faces, talking, drinking. The offending camera sat inoffensively in the corner, along with a boom box and a bunch of cassettes. Trick clearly liked his music, it only over shadowed by his love of books. The room was filled with them. He had no bookshelves so he lined the walls with them, balancing one on top of another. King, Barker, Shelley - all the horror greats were represented along with the fifty p paperbacks you could pick up at car boot sales with terrible writing names. There was also a tottering stack of comics and a smaller stack of newspapers beside it. Pens and notepads were beside the bed, along with a lamp and a plastic typewriter. It was beloved even if it was cheap and he would not have given it up for the world. His wardrobe was not just for his flannel shirts and jeans. With a lack of storage space, it was crammed with other bits and pieces too. School bags, a skateboard, a eyeshadow palette, a bottle of vodka hidden in a boot, a single photo of his mother, a note signed with an F. There was all the debris he needed for his many jobs too, a heavy toolbox, newspaper bag and car manual amongst them.
It was a room that seemed too small to contain him as well as thee meagre belongings here and when he was in it, he did feel like it was a cage designed to hold him, suffocate him and keep him here forever. It was succeeding. The longer he stayed, the harder it would be to leave. Once he gave up, perhaps it would stop hurting. This town was like drowning.

Alexei
The child who had once lived in little more than a shack now lived in a palace. Sometimes they marvelled at how far they had came but mostly, it just felt like they were where they were always meant to be. They adjusted to royalty as if they had been born into it.
The room was huge and felt like walking into a cavern. The walls were painted pitch black, the carpet a thick, dark red, like drying blood. It was cold, almost enough so that you could see your breath mist in front of you. The western wall was dominated by huge, arching windows that let in the cold winter light. The curtains were swept to the side, the heavy velvet barely used. Alexei liked gazing out of the windows too often. They would sit up in their (four poster, naturally) bed, the silk red sheets and heavy black blanket pooling around him and with young eyes he would watch the snow, or rain, or dark. He only used the curtains in the summer, when sun attempted to invade his sanctum. There was no need for the sun - a candelabra hung from the ceiling and there were candlestick holders scattered on top of the surfaces in white, black and red.
All the furniture in the room was carved out of dark wood, ornately carved. The patterns were birds, flowers, figures, sometimes entire stories across the top of a chest or doors of a wardrobe. When a surface was smooth, it was polished to such a shine you could see your reflection in it. Not that you had to - on the south wall a large oval mirror hung, it’s frame curling with black leaves and vines. It wasn’t magic, but it may as well be. Alexei gazed into it fairly often and seemed to come away dissatisfied or glowing.
There were a few more recent additions to the wall. Stencils of crows, ravens, magpies on the strips of wall between the windows. That was not the most recent addition. The scarlet hand print placed over every one of them was. Alexei’s hand print, naturally. He couldn’t help but be a witch at times like this. Magic curled around him like smoke. Which explained the shelves of odd items and mementos - a lot of bones, a crystal ball, talons, feathers.
There was a door to an ensuite bathroom, black tiled and with a huge clawfoot tub placed in front of a crackling fireplace. There was magic here too, of a different sort. In front of the mirror there were pots of rouge for his lips, a shine for his cheeks. The truth was Alexei rarely used make up - his appearance was naturally a creation of extremes, but sometimes you needed a little ritual, for yourself. There was another place for rituals in his room.
There was a well worn desk, the inkwell full, a long black quill sitting and waiting. Pages and pages of parchment. There was a bookcase beside it, a small, unassuming one. It was filled with hand bound books, ones that Alexei had written. He could throw a scarf over it to hide it if the royal soldiers came a-knocking, but it would take a substantial amount of guts for a single one of them to step inside their territory. The entire place was doused in death and ghosts.
______________________________________________________________
Lance’s Childhood Bedroom
It is absolutely a teenage bedroom. The bed is still unmade, crumpled sheets in rich fabrics. The walls are covered in pictures of fighters, cross section images, propaganda shots. There’s a few bigger ships mixed in, but it’s clear where his heart lies. There’s an occasional pretty boy, girl or other gender pin up but these are few and far. The shelves at the end of the room hold a few (surely incredibly valuable) books. There’s also a few data slates, a few models, a few old dolls of knights and power armour. An empty hamster cage. A few picts of a very young Lance and his mother. More of him and his father. A couple of him and Astrid, painfully teenage and not yet into his confident phase.
There’s a desk covered in tools and bits of machinery, half made experiments and devices. It’s organised chaos, a notebook open with scrawled text and notations, bits of paper labelling a few pieces on the flat surface. Some of it looks alarmingly advanced. Between that and the books and dataslates, it seems Lance was slightly more nerdy than he cared to admit. There’s some drawers tightly shut.
There’s other random clutter of course, and a messy wardrobe with everything from formal clothes to boiler suits. There’s a hole in the wall suspiciously fist sized, a broken mirror, a stack of older notebooks left in a corner. Storage boxes under the bed, a las pistol tossed aside, something that looks like it might be some sort of ceremonial sword. A bedside table. There is not a single aquila in the room.
_____________________________________________________________
Aeneas
He supposed it counted as a bedroom at this point. He’d been staying in it for almost a year after all. It was a motel bedroom, not quite the cheapest there was but not too far off. In the slow, unintentional way it often did, it had become personal.
A sheer red scarf had been draped over the ugly lampshade besides the bed, softening the harsh glare of the white bulb and bathing the room in a rosy glow. Next to it there was an ash tray, heavily used but often emptied. A pack of cigarettes and a lighter waited expectantly beside it. The bed itself was neatly made, though not by a maid - there was a sign hanging outside the door as it had done for months, warning staff to not disturb. Under his pillow, there was a knife. He didn’t trust so easily, especially now. There were people who would see him dead in a moment.
There was a cheap table that had been treated as a desk. A huge amount of newspapers lay scattered upon it, certain pages torn out or highlighted, articles cut carefully out and placed aside. They all appeared to be about Zeus, the massacre in the Trojan district or Helen. A notebook lay amongst them, full of notes and theories. There were a few cheap books from the library exchange downstairs, crime novels or dry historical non-fiction. He had to while away the evening hours somehow. The half empty bottle of whiskey resting there too showed that much.
He had unpacked his few clothes, each neatly placed in a drawer in the bureau. He didn’t have enough clothes to fill it even half way. Consequently it looked a little lonely whenever he got dressed. He had managed to sweet talk the desk downstairs into giving him an iron so at least the clothes were clean and pressed perfectly. It was in these small ways he felt like he had a modicum of control over his life. He needed that right now.
______________________________________________________________
Dimitri
He slept in a dormitory. He didn’t mind. And besides, it’s not like his particular Light temple managed to bring in a whole lot of revenue so grumbling wouldn’t have done much good. There were ten beds in this particular dorm, five on each side, neatly spaced out and with a trunk at the bottom end and a bedside table carrying a candle at the top. Dimitri was especially in luck as his bed was underneath a window, allowing him to use the sill as a smidge more storage space. Not that he had much to store. He used it for his symbols of the Light, letting them bask in the morning sun, making them warm to the touch when he picked them up and put them around his neck each day.
The trunk was merely full of clothes and weapons polish. He had arrived here only with the clothes on his back and despite the years passing, the only other objects he had gained had been a few weapons and the trappings of a paladin of the Light. He took great pride in both these things. His tabard was always clean, his blades shone in the sun like diamonds. He tried to be a good example in all things, not just the heroic or exciting stuff. The little things mattered too, like praying every day and practising the magic that flowed through him just as much as his weapons.
The only other things he owned were in his shelf in the bedside table. A collection of small bottles, glimmering green, red, and blue. Healing and magic restoration potions of various types. Then a silver knife rested, waiting.

Floating Marigolds
🌵Today we hiked Tom Thumb trail, which is a beautiful and intoxicating walk on the McDowell Mountains, a half hour away from our apartment in Scottsdale. My memories of the walk are raw and ethereal, steeped in natural wonder and energy, as potent as the fresh snowy white, shimmering morsels of quartz stone, I found on the trail and as delicate as the many clementine orange, tiny, charming butterflies I saw flitting, gliding, rising and falling in gentle waves along the pink sandy earth, the butterflies, appearing like floating marigolds, twirling through jojobas, acacias, teddy bear chollas, prickly pear cactus and the gatherings of many dried scarlet, amethyst, bleached gold and chocolate tinted grasses. We walked along an uncultivated and wild desert with the shadows and sparkles dancing off the ridge of steely gray mountains, the light catapulting from wiry, needle embedded, hardy succulents and feathery clumps of grasses, trailing cautiously over the stumps of dried ocotillos, as the rushed breezes joined nature as it conducted the nimbus clouds, early October sunlight, far off late summer hurricane winds, nectar gathering bees and palpable dust into a beguiling symphony. Rattlesnakes, tarantulas, javelinas, scorpions and other desert dwellers are spotted on this trail. While, I was curious to see the natural inhabitants of such a cosmically and scenically charged terrain, I was grateful not to encounter any lethal fauna. While hiking along, I felt a slightly sinister energy, a nuance and awareness that the groves of chollas, slumbering mesquite trees, the serpentine and the web weaving habitué of the land, did not appreciate, humans ascending to their territory. Yet, being in uninimitable and unhindered natural manifestations, away from man made structures, traffic lights and manicured landscapes, in an open area, has a consciousness altering quality of change, or shifting borders between reality and illusions, of time moving and shaping the physical world, of the future cascading closer and of sudden insights and visions. As my husband trotted ahead, always a few stretches before me, yet close enough so we do not lose each other, I called out as he entreated me to hurry along. “I’m only a few steps behind.”, the words echoing through mystical, mysterious and impenetrable time and space.
Heretofore, my style has been predictable, often veering into the realm of slightly boring, thus, I am attempting to define it, such that it might inspire novel ways to translate my emotions, personality and subtle consciousness, into the way I present my self, with attire and jewelry. As I was born on the seventh of July, the number seven holds immense luck and possibility, and I consider it a charm and constant reminder of the magical nature of reality. The seven elements of my style would include romantic, feminine, mysterious, bohemian, poetic, classic and simple.
I tend to reach timelessly for white, nude or pale pink shirts, blouses and tops with skinny blue/black jeans, or black or navy shorts, I possess a cast of navy, emerald, white, camel, misty gray, mustard yellow, varied hues of pink and a few royal purple tinted dresses, I vary these, by sprinkling in a few petite floral patterned or striped pieces. My jewelry, consists of pearl, emerald or diamond studs or a pair of very thin gold hoops, I wear my engagement ring every day, with a combinations of a simple pearl ring I inherited from my grandmother, a minimal rose quartz band, or a ring with seven, small Zambian emeralds, I also wear my black Hermès watch, with pearl or brass bracelets. I tend to wear either nude high-heel sandals or pink, navy blue or leopard print ballet flats. In the mornings, dressing myself is a cherished ritual, I enjoy the unplanned nature and the momentous act of going through my collection of apparel, scarfs, shoes, belts and purses to help me gauge both the mood of the day and my own particular sensibility. I remind myself often, to look more carefully at the contents of my closet, rather then to miss details that might highlight a look, idea, or expression more powerfully and clearly, perhaps noting how one of my pink cardigans may be worn with thin spaghetti strapped dresses for work, or how a black piece with pearls would be both appealing and require scant thought on the days I am running late.
Here are a few insights into the elements of my style:
Romantic ambiances include, slowly opening cosmos petals, smoky Egyptian musk incense, a slow whirling fan and a window open with white curtains flapping softly, carrying notes of honeysuckle and jasmine. On days that I skew particularly romantic, I might leave my hair in loose waves, wear a pink dress as pale as a flushed cream rose and eat an almond croissant with dark vanilla coffee.
While, the feminine energies permeate my experience of reality, with attenuating garden blossoms, of noticing the golden light on miniature ivory roses, or of creating a handmade avocado toast with extra squeezes of lime and pink salt drifting like dawn mist on the pale green sea crowned with freshly torn basil, or of a tying a pleasingly floral patterned black and white silk scarf around a high ponytail.
The elements of mystery, heighten the charm and increase curiosity, such as when I deliberately button up my white cotton shirt, over a peach pink bralette, or when I move to reveal, the glimmering sparkles of minimal pearl or brass bracelets, under the long sleeves of a nude toned chiffon dress. The nuances of mystery linger especially poignantly, in the study of contrasts, of wearing a tight bun with a free, flowing, unrestricted dress or styling long, loose, tresses with a tight, caramel lacy blouse and charcoal skinny jeans. In evoking mystery, I try to imagine a poetess in a summer garden, listening to the songs of the pastel nectarine, dawn pink and blood orange stained dahlias that only she can hear, or of the perfume of blossoming foamy white roses, drifting quietly from the garden, on a night of a charged secret, rendezvous by a rollicking, capricious and lighthearted sea.
My bohemian temperament stems from my desire to grow wildflowers, to cut a few for a tiny vintage vase, to wear vibrant coral, burnt sienna, incanted jade green and white cotton dresses with gold hoops, to spray rose and jasmine mist, to burn palo santo, to light a few tea light candles to saturate darkened rooms with pools of starlight, to dwell among old books, houseplants and fairy lights, to read French literature, to dance on a frayed lilac and silver Persian carpet, write about light, memories, emotions and flowers, drink chamomile tea, remain awake dangerously late to read, do yoga, to traipse into reveries, of Paris in the rain, of picnics with artists in a field of poppies and of carelessly swimming in a painterly vanilla and frangipani grove by the sea.
A poetic nature stems from an inclination to glimpse at the heart rendering pain and beauty in any moment, of the perfume of the tuberose strung canopy on a wedding night on a lush hill overlooking a misty winter bay, of an accidental snapping on a beloved string of pearls on the road to California, of ink stained hands and gardeners nails, of rubbing coconut, jasmine and ylang ylang oil over freshly lavender soaped skin, of never having too many lace, silk or chiffon dresses, or of enthusiastically wearing scarfs and wraps during pumpkin spice latte season in the desert.
Classic elements evoke a timeless sensibility and appeal, it appears in my life when I choose objects and pieces that occur whimsically and beguilingly in nature, such as by wearing pearls, turquoise, or rose quartz, from wearing natural fabrics such as silk or cotton, or choosing the cuts of cloth that have yet to be rendered dated, such as shift dresses, pea coats, white button down shirts, shirt dresses accompanied with brightly hued ballet slippers or nude wedges. It translates into the style of my home in the faint whispers from my collection of old English literature books by M. Somerset Maugham, Oscar Wilde, Daphne Du Maurier and more, or in my curated blue and white china collections, or a massive hoard of natural linen napkins, in piles of soft, cashmere, kanthas or Turkish blankets, in botanical and seaside art and paintings, in natural, raw wood furniture, lambs wool rugs, hand made ceramics and more.
The charm of simplicity is noticing the details, so that one may curate and disregard extraneous elements that diminish the purest forms and shapes. Nature is often my muse when I attempt to simplify my thoughts, ideas, design, fashion or lifestyle; for nature reminds us that most beautiful things are generally free, indelible in our memories, is measured in joy rather than in time, yet often taken for granted, such as the unadorned blue and white of the sky, or the emerald light in a green forest, or the rows or ivory roses, mixed with pots of lavender and faded pink geraniums lining a driveway, or of the dual purposes of perfume and glow inherent in a single bottle of coconut oil, in pearl earrings and a blush pink silk dress, or of the wondrous ecstasy of a storm halfway between midnight and the first light, with the windows open, the hurried gales, intense strikes of lightning, lashing rain and felonious thunder, carrying us though the night like a ship in a tempest ridden sea, the earth rollicking and dancing through myriad reveries, while our souls are set adamantly free in way that only occurs while we sleep, the unexplainable darkness of reality, temporarily stayed, by the poetic grace and shimmering excitement of the desert during a rainstorm many hours before the sunrise. Very often, I try to renegotiate my desire for variety, complexity and maximalism with an equally painful inclination for those entities that exult in plainness, such as crisp toast with butter, or a French braid with red lips, or of seashell, poetry book and rose quartz collections, or of rosewater mist and candle lit yoga, or the tantalizing pairing of a cup of green tea and a blanket.
The most salient concern in armoring myself for date nights, errands, visiting garden stores, bookstores, coffee shops or to the law firm, is how a garment makes me feel; how a vivid peach dress with a lilac cardigan may help ameliorate anxiety on Monday, or how a midnight blue shirt dress might assist me on days, I need to refocus my energies on my ongoing projects or how a white peasant blouse, dangling earrings and faintly pink jeans, anoints a lighter mood and gypsy vibes to a mellow Wednesday. Yet, another lens to view my style is through the experiences I hope to have, so I might collect a scandalous amount of pale pink chiffon dresses, for dancing as the clock strikes midnight in a lantern scattered garden in Marrakech, dewy with the perfume of orange blossoms, thick groves of tuberose, calla lilies, cypresses and palms, or a camel sheath with pearls for investor meetings in steely fortresses, or a emerald silk mini dress for an afternoon of visiting art galleries and antique stores while visiting by husbands family home in Connecticut. But the truest way we adorn ourselves are through the little pinpricks of gathered light, accumulated fires and entrapped breezes that we patiently fasten, insert or slide on as final, lingering touches, maybe it is the the diamond tear shaped earrings given by your mothers best friend for your engagement, a delicate lavender rice pearl bracelet found on a trip to Sedona, opal stud earrings reminding you of the ones your parents gave you as a gift on your 12th birthday, the original opals likely in safe in a bank deposit box in Toronto or Dhaka, or the vintage emerald ring you brought for yourself to break the webs of ennui in those mind numbingly plebeian routines annotated by the music of tiny silver anklet bells. For, there is yet explained magic and deeply alchemical poetry impressed upon the gems, stones and minerals that we find along our journey, some inherited, others gifted and a few collected on our own, these are mesmerizing and solid reminders that we linger among stars, that we are as fragile as plum blossoms in the path of an impatient may gale, that the light entrances even the most sleeping entities, that the cracks make the gem even more beautiful, that strength arises from beauty and vice versa and that there are memories, whispers, passionate entreaties, unanswered prayers, surreptitious reveries, twinkling laughter and bespoke tears embedded in the earthly realm, translated so bewilderingly and delightfully into our bracelets and other charms.
I noticed that when a pillar candle burns down so that the wick dances incandescently in a hollow grove, flickering hypnotically in a cave of melted wax with the tower edged and traced by times retreat, the color of the candle is revealed through the fire, as it jumps, scales and tongues the darkened room, it pulses like heartbeats from another realm, it rhymes, riddles and casts the space with a forgotten memory, a distant wish, or an unknown song, it heightens the emotion, of the bitterness of our dwindling lease on time and of the sweetness of its term. The glow reminds us to notice the light impressions whenever we have a chance, for even when the moonlight hits the blossoming Texas sage it reveals further regarding beauty, magic, fragility, impermanence and joy. The candle flame is starlight lingering in our midst, intoxicating in its danger, eviscerating in its power and captivating as it burns the dust, the unheard music and the reality veiling air to offer us its light.
I realize that perhaps the small butterflies I mentioned at the beginning of this piece, written a week ago, may have already travelled along their wild desert mountain paths, imbibing honey from the prickliest-flowering succulents, seeping in the orchestra of sun light chased by the moon, having ecstatically ridden the autumnal breezes, on their way to appearing again far away as earthly marigolds. The same way every tear turns into a leaf and every joy into a flower. 🦋

Ghee Packaging for Healthy Outcomes From Nichrome
Ghee is the second most consumed dairy product in India and is widely used in Indian cooking. There are a number of factors for the growing ghee market - population growth, rising incomes, easy availability, and a greater appreciation of the health benefits of ghee. It comes as no surprise that the ghee market is forecast to grow at a rate of 15% till 2024.
Uttar Pradesh currently accounts for the majority of the ghee market in India, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Some of the prominent players in the market are GCMMF (Amul), RCDF, Mother Dairy, Patanjali, SMC Foods etc.
Ghee Packaging from Nichrome
Even though ghee has a long shelf life - it can be stored for 6 to 12 months under the right conditions - proper filling and packaging play an important role. The ghee can turn rancid when exposed to heat, light, air, water vapour and certain metals that cause deterioration.
Nichrome’s technology can be used to package ghee in commonly used ghee packaging materials:
Tin Cans: Most commonly used for bulk packs of 5L and 15L. Coated to prevent rusting.
Glass Bottles: Provide excellent protection to maintain the quality of ghee. Normally used for retail packs of 100g to 500g.
Semi-rigid Containers: Generally made from HDPE and provide advantages of being lightweight, economical and easy to transport. These containers come in a few types: blow moulded HDPE bottles, jars and cherry cans; and odour-free PET bottles that act as gas barriers.
Flexible Pouches: The most economical approach for ghee packaging. These pouches need to be made using materials with the following characteristics:
- No reaction with ghee
- Easy availability at low cost
- Non-toxic materials
- Should not let the printing ink penetrate into the produce
- Should have good barriers to prevent spoilage
- Should be able to survive the rigours of transportation
Ghee Packaging Solutions from Nichrome
Nichrome is a ghee packing machine manufacturer whose product range has many solutions for the packaging of ghee to match your space, packaging format and budget requirements.

The Filpack Servo SMD operates at speeds of 70-85 pouches per minute depending on the package size and can package ghee and other viscous products such as oil, ketchup, fruit pulp, mayonnaise, curry pastes and even products like grease, paint, adhesives etc. The pouches are in 3 side seal format and quantities range from 50 ml to 1000 ml. This machine also comes with independent head operation so one can pack two different products and quantities simultaneously.
● Bottle Filling Line Nichrome’s efficient integrated system for bottle filling and packaging covers a turntable, UV sterilization chamber, automatic liquid filling machine, cap feeding elevator, rotary capping machine, induction sealer, labelling machine, date & batch coding system, and a packing table. The system is controlled by PLCs and packs a number of viscous products such as ghee, ketchup, chocolate sauce and more. Some of the other applications of this system include a wide variety of food & beverage products such as flavoured milk, soft drinks, energy drinks, water & buttermilk and non-food liquids such as perfumes, oil, shampoos and handwash with SKUs ranging from 100 ml to 20 litres.
● Tin Filling Line The Tin Filling Line from Nichrome offers sturdy, low maintenance operation with accurate and efficient performance. This line is controlled by PLCs and has a digital LCD touch screen to display settings and safety enclosures with interlocks for rotary parts. This is a composite friendly line that offers auto lid feeding, placing, and lid seaming. THE SOAP THAT IS THE PACKAGING
One problem that we can not oversee is the plastic waste and foot print we leave behind ourselves. One of the industries that impact this is Cosmetic packaging. Designers are looking out to see if they can find solutions to this never ending problem. Designer, Mi Zhou, has approached the issue with a solution. We introduce to you the Soapack. A soap and package mashed together to create the ultimate soap product. The final form is molded by pouring the vegetable oil-based soap. On the inside there is a coating made out of Beeswax that prevents the liquid soap from interacting with the liquid. As a result the Soapack comes out in great colors and looks better than anything else out there. The end product gives you a hard soap exterior bottle and a pour-able liquid soap on the inside. You can place the Soapack bottles on cabinets, or even in a soap tray, and use them as you go. The main goal of its perfume-bottle-inspired forms and a glass-like wall-thickness, was to make these soaps more appealing look more appealing than traditional liquid soap and shampoo bottles made from plastic. The object was to create something so beautiful that users bought them and cherished them, eventually opting for a more sustainable lifestyle in the process. The bottles come with soap stoppers too, mimicking antique perfume designs, and are devoid of any label, barring a single tag that hangs from the bottle’s neck… and guess what, that’s made from soap too! Here’s Where Canadians Plan to Travel Post-Lockdown
Unfortunately the only travel-related activity we’re doing right now is… cancelling all the plans we’d made for the summer. No more weekend getaways, summer weddings, trips to far-flung destinations. It’s disappointing, but with international travel likely restricted for months to come, Canadians are shifting their attention closer to home. According to new data from Booking.com, interest in domestic getaways has risen from 33% to 51%, with local properties in Canada appearing more frequently on travel ‘wish lists’ created on their website in March and April 2020 as compared to the same months in 2019.
Read on for the top 5 wish-listed domestic destinations for Canadians, and our suggestions for some of the best local shops, boutiques and small businesses to support in each city.

My Grandma has a very specific decorating style. Every room had a theme, or colour scheme and each item would match that theme with perfection. If the bathroom was purple, everything would be a monochromatic lilac dream. If the kitchen was ivy themed it would be adorned with an ivy tablecloth, wallpaper, dishes and utensils (all white background with green ivy print). She even went as far as to match the colour of her car with her roof shingles at one point (they were forest green). Needless to say, I think I definitely inherited this need to match because the urge to coordinate is strong with this one 💛

jamaican black castor oil reviews | Jamaican Black Castor Oil reviews, photos, ingredients
I bought MANGO & LIME, cold-pressed Black Jamaican Castor Oil within an experiment, using read this on online. I bought a bathtub at a neighborhood drugstore and it was AMAZING. It utilized to moisturise my own hair AND skin. For my own hair it thickened my borders (and also my eyebrows) it maintained my hair moist plus it also climbed quite alot at per month. After the very first bath ended, I had been keen to acquire longer but couldn't find this at the shops. If my husband went towards the UK, I asked him to buy 2 baths that he finally bought on the web for me at the United Kingdom. He purchased it in the location referred to as #Afrocosmetics4u. If they came, the very best was sealed using cello tape that was somewhat strange. As soon as I started it, the petroleum had been full of miniature, white beads that, whenever you pressed on them didnt divide readily; nearly such as wax. The consequences of the remaining part of the bathtub was kind of weird; it appeared as if heated butter up. And when I rubbed it in my own skin, it had been kind of this consequences of the tiny beads simply remained on the top layer of the skin and hair. Its repellent to check at! The 2nd bath was nice. Its a remarkable solution, however I thought I'd print this inspection beause there which may possibly be imitation goods available on the marketplace. The package of 2 baths cost only under #20; therefore its not affordable. I am disappointed. Hopefully this can be an anomaly coz once I googled it have been not any additional complaints. Just FYI. I said I wouldnt choose the item back, but because of the only real option with this sort. I'd purchase the item. Just just easily could easily see it. I actually do a hair mask every fourteen days approximately. I'm attentive to just put castor oil onto the origins of my own hair (make it hard to scrub out) and also a combination of coconut and argon oil onto my middle and ending section. I leave it on night to get its most useful effect (a handful of hours will do nothing to get my own hair). As an example - my own hair is wavy, longhaired, damaged/dry. JBCO works really good for my hairtype and leaves my hair feeling sexier than coconut oil. I take advantage of this in 2 manners; massaging right into my own scalp and down my middle lengths to endings once weekly and allow it to immediately before washing the following moment. And that I utilize it. Sealing oil later employing my own hair services and products to maintain moisture secured in. Works nicely both ways. I have not employed so long enough to touch upon hair growth however my own hair seems smooth, soft and glistening after having JBCO, and of course my curls seem defined. The smell reminds me just a little java. It isn't so fine but undoubtedly awful enough I wouldn't utilize it. JBCO is tacky and thick in balancing therefore I am not certain this will continue to work with people that have straight/fine/thin hair. But for the curled hair it's good. I don't have any issues draining off it - it's readily removed using a sulfate free shampoo. Best of it all generally does not fade my own hair colour like coconut-oil. Finally I have already been using it in my lashes for the previous two months and have found a definite gap in the period of my lashes (they seem amazing with lashes on today where as earlier these were short despite having a couple of coats!) . Hand Etched Christmas Ornaments
Some big, hand-sized dollar store (plastic only!) ornaments, a Dremel, and a steady hand are all you need for this project. You can even add a string of lights to make yours light up as hers did. Ensure that you get plastic balls that have a layer of shiny color on top and a layer of plastic underneath, because you'll be etching, not cutting out. When you first start doing it, it's a good idea to draw your design on the ball before etching, especially if you want these to look professional. You can Google things like "snowflake templates" and "alphabet templates" to find templates that you can print out, lay over the ball, then draw the shapes you want. Another handy source of templates is a paper doily; there are usually lots of shapes to choose from. Once you're more experienced, or if you want a handmade, rustic look from the get-go, you can simply start right in and etch with your Dremel; no preparation required. Kim used a Dremel Micro 8050 for her project. She chose the standard engraving tip, turned the RPMs down from 15,000 to 10,000 for better control. Approaching each ball at an angle (perpendicular to the ball), she etched hers freehand once she became accustomed to the process, but (see above) I would use a template and draw what I want first. After each ball was etched, Kim inserted it into the next light in her string. This is my favorite presentation of her project - the lights really kick it up a notch! (back to top)
Gourmet Dog (or Reindeer) Treats
Gourmet Dog Treats by Cassie of Wholefully If you've ever shopped in one of those dog boutiques, you know how expensive gourmet dog treats are. They're easy to make, and they make great Christmas gifts. If you're exchanging gifts with someone before Christmas, though, why not make these into reindeer treats for the kids to leave out with Santa's cookies? Gotta feed the reindeer, by golly! Here's a recipe from Cassie of Wholefully: Ingredients Cooking spray 2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup ground flaxseed 1 tablespoon honey 3 eggs 1/2 cup olive oil 1 cup water 1/2 cup applesauce 1/2 cup pumpkin puree Instructions Preheat oven to 350°. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, and flax seed. Set aside. In another mixing bowl, combing honey, eggs, oil, water, applesauce and pumpkin puree until well combined. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until well-mixed. Form into a disc and roll out on a well-floured surface until about 1/4″ thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut out shapes and place on prepared baking sheet about 1″ apart. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until treats are very brown and very hard. Let cool completely before giving them to your pooch to try out. Store in an airtight container out-of-reach of your puppy. (back to top)
DIY Perfumes and Colognes
Egyptian perfume bottles Set/ 10 hand Blown Decorative Pyrex Glass Vials on Ebay Have you ever thought about making custom perfume? There's a bit of a trick to picking the right scent for someone; some people wear bright, sharp, citrusy scents well, whereas others are more suited to warm, leathery, sandalwood or lavender aromas. When I give someone a handmade gift, I'm always sure to ask them to regift or donate to charity if it doesn't suit them, because you just never know when something you and everyone else thinks is just wonderful just isn't the recipient's cup of tea. Let them share the love! First, try your hand at one or more of these recipes, and if you like the results, find some beautiful bottles at your local Goodwill or thrift shops, or on Ebay. Imagine receiving perfume that someone was thoughtful enough to make just for you in one of these beautiful bottles! Or you could get really fancy schmancy with this cologne bottle or crystal perfume decanter from Amazon. I'm definitely doing this project for a few special people this year. Here are some recipes for men's colognes from Christina, the Hippy Homemaker. Since you can't smell your computer screen, seek out an aromatherapy set next time you're at Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc. When combining more than one scent, it's better to be conservative than to overdo it with too many scents that may clash. Sandalwood is a good, warm, sophisticated scent for men, which can be softened further with a little lavender or made more rugged with a little clove and/or citrus oil (like lime essence). For example, I think I'd start out by trying 12 drops of sandalwood, 5 of lavender, and 1 or 2 of clove. For a women's perfume, I'd use a lot of lavender, a little sandalwood, a hint of clove, and I'd like to see if a drop or so of orange would work with that combination. Hmmm... I've got to get a set of essential oils so that I can experiment! First, decide whether you want an oil-based (for a decanter to be dabbed on) or water-based (to be sprayed on) perfume or cologne. If your mixture is strong, go with dab-on and give it in a decanter with a stopper. If it's mild to medium, go ahead and put it in an atomizer. Here are Christina's recipes, modified so that you can invent your own blends or use hers. *Note: carrier oils are (usually) low or no-scent base vegetable oils that can be used to dilute the strong essential oils. Carrier oils "carry" the essential oils to the skin. Oil Base Ingredients
H&D Crystal Art Deco Vintage Style Perfume Bottles Empty... on Amazon 2 Tbsp. grapeseed oil 15-25 drops of your essential oil blend 20 drops vitamin e or other carrier oil* 1 oz. glass dropper bottle Add essential oils to the glass bottle, follow with a carrier oil to fill. Cap and gently swish to combine. To use: dab a couple drops of cologne to your pressure points (i.e. nape of neck, wrists, behind the ears, etc.) Water Spray Base Ingredients
Riverrun Large Perfume Cologne Atomizer Empty Refillable... on Amazon 1 Tbsp. witch hazel 1 tsp. vegetable glycerin (optional) 1 tsp. aloe vera gel (optional) 30-50 drops of your essential oil blend 2 oz. spray bottle filtered water to fill Combine ingredients in a 2 oz. spray bottle and add water to fill. Shake before use! Click here to visit Christina's page and scroll down for her recommendations on which oils to blend for certain effects. Stephanie Gerber of Hello Glow shared her recipe for California Citrus Sunshine Perfume, and she reminded her readers how important it is to make and store homemade perfumes in glass rather than plastic. I wouldn't have thought of that.
California Citrus Sunshine Perfume
California Citrus Sunshine Perfume by Stephanie of Hello Glow Ingredients 1 tablespoon jojoba oil 2 tablespoons pure grain alcohol or vodka 30 drops of essential oil. She used sweet orange, grapefruit, peppermint and a lavender/chamomile blend. 1 tablespoon distilled water Note: It is important to use glass, not plastic, when mixing the perfume as the essential oils will eat through the plastic. Instructions Step 1: Start by adding the jojoba oil to the glass container. Then add the alcohol. Step 2: Add the essential oils in this order: Base Note – 10 drops of grapefruit Middle Note – 10 drops of sweet orange and then 5 drops of peppermint Top Note – 5 drops of chamomile/lavender blend. If you don’t have a blend, then just use lavender. Step 3: Add distilled water with a dropper. Mix well and transfer to a dark glass container to store for 48 hours or up to six weeks. The longer it sits the stronger the scent will be. Step 5: Transfer to a pretty perfume bottle after it has reached the desired scent. Click here to visit Stephanie's page with the above recipe. Here's where a variety of essential oils becomes a good investment, because now you can make bath oils, fizzies, soaps, lotions, hair serum, potpourri, and all kinds of other things with those same oils! (back to top)
Homemade Bath Oil Recipe
4 tablespoons grapeseed or other carrier oil that's good for the skin and/or hair (olive, almond, jojoba, coconut, argan, or avocado oil, etc.) 20 drops lavender and/or other essential oil(s) Add 4-5 drops of food coloring (one at a time!) if you want to make your bath oil a pretty color. Angela of Savvy Homemade has some good specific recipes for bath oils, and she goes into the benefits of several kinds of oils. (back to top)
Whipped Peppermint Bark Body Butter Recipe
Whipped Peppermint Bark Body Butter by Kia of Fit & Fab Living Kia of Fit & Fab Living has a good recipe for refreshing peppermint bark body butter. You can use these ingredients for hand cream, too - just increase the shea butter and decrease the cocoa butter and coconut oil for the right texture. I made dozens of little jars of lavender-scented hand cream as wedding favors, and they were a hit! Ingredients ¼ C. cocoa butter ¼ C. shea butter ¼ C. coconut oil 2 Tbs. vitamin E oil ¼ tsp. peppermint extract Instructions 1. Measure the first four ingredients into a microwave-safe bowl. If you’re using the kind of cocoa butter that comes in a jar, like I did (as opposed to small discs), heat it in the microwave until soft enough to scoop out, about two minutes. 2. Microwave all of the oils until melted, about three minutes. If any small solid pieces remain, stir until melted and incorporated. 3. Stir in peppermint extract. 4. Place bowl in the freezer and cool for 15 to 20 minutes, until about ¾ of the oil is solid but soft. 5. Transfer oils to the bowl of a stand mixer or mixing bowl and whip with whisk attachment or electric beaters on highest speed for 5 to 8 minutes, until light and fluffy, scraping the sides with a rubber spatula every two minutes or so. 6. Transfer to a mason jar or other lidded glass container and store at room temperature. Enjoy! Pamela's note: add 1-5 drops of red food coloring - one drop at a time! - until you have the right shade of pink. Visit Kia's post to see her instructions and photos. If you like peppermint-themed bath & body gifts, check out this post with recipes for peppermint bath products by Tonia of The Gunny Sack. (back to top)
Hair Serum
Have you ever used Moroccanoil or Argan oil on your hair? I've been using Moroccanoil for years, and I love it; you just rub a teeny, tiny bit into the ends and leave it in. While researching this post, though, I learned that the argan oil doesn't penetrate the hair shaft as coconut oil does, so I think I'll switch to a mixture with coconut oil and a few drops of lavender or maybe sandalwood essential oil. Anyway, to make your own DIY hair serum to help define curls and control frizzies, mix some argan oil with just a little essential oil for a nice but light scent, and voila! Include instructions to use a dime-sized or smaller amount, rub between the hands, then gently work into the ends of the hair before and/or after blow-drying. I usually use less than a dime-sized amount after blow-drying; it really brings out the cut and waves or curls, and it makes your hair feel so soft! (back to top)
Muffin Tin Bath Fizzies (from Martha Stewart)
Muffin Tin Bath Fizzies from Martha Stewart Ingredients 1 3/4 cup baking soda 2 cups cornstarch 1 cup citric acid Spritzer bottles Food coloring Essential oil 2 small empty spray bottles (one per color and one for plain water) Strainer/sifter/sieve Baking molds Instructions Combine the baking soda, cornstarch, and citric acid, then sift the mixture to remove any lumps. Pour 1 cup of the mixture into a glass bowl. Fill the spray bottle with water and add 4-6 drops of food coloring. Spritz the powdered mixture once (broad sprays - you don't want the powder to fizz on you!), then stir. Repeat until the mixture is the color you want it to be. Once you have the color you want, see if you can shape the powder into a tightly-packed ball. If it's still too powdery, spritz and stir using plain water until it's firm enough to mold (this can take a while) Select an essential oil. Add 5 drops if it's one of the stronger scents (peppermint, lavender), 6 if it's a weaker one (lemon, grapefruit). Mix well. Firmly pack mixture into small baking molds. Martha's team used 1/4 cup for each fizzy, which is good for one bath. Allow mixture to set for 2 hours, then pop out carefully. Repeat with different tints for remaining powder. See full instructions and photos on the Martha Stewart website. (back to top)
Handmade Christmas Soaps
Handmade Bath Soaps by Agnes Hsu of Hello Wonderful Another handmade giveaway that I made for my wedding was handmade oatmeal lavender soap. Unfortunately, with the recipe I used they weren't very pretty (although they worked and smelled great!) so we had TONS of soap for many months thereafter! "Real" soapmaking is a hot, steamy, smelly process, so I definitely recommend the melt-and-pour route. Why not, when you end up with fabulous soap! Here's a very simple, good recipe from Agnes Hsu of Hello, Wonderful. All you need is: Ingredients Melt-and-pour soap base 15-25 drops Essential oil(s) (optional) 2-6 drops Food coloring (optional) Soap molds Holiday-themed plastic trinkets (tiny plastic ornaments work) Body-safe glitter (optional) Instructions Following the instructions on the soap label, melt at 30-second intervals until you can stir in the scent(s) and color(s) you want. After melting the soap and stirring in the scents and colors, pour into molds. Sprinkle the glitter (you can swirl it around with a toothpick, etc.), and press one to three ornaments into the soap, trying to settle them towards the middle. Allow to cool, pop out of the molds, and wrap! Visit Agnes' post for her instructions and photos. If you want to go whole hog and make a full-on lye soap, here's a post on cold process soap making for beginners, a recipe for honey soap and another for Pecan Rooibos + Orange Soap that look pretty good. Homemade Potpourri
Homemade Potpourri by Julie Blanner This is a wonderful DIY for host/hostess gifts and your own home. The rustic look of the dried fruits and spices combined with the holiday baking scents they remind us of just make everything warm-fuzzy-cosy. Here are the instructions for making natural potpourri from lifestyle blogger Julie Banner: Ingredients cloves cinnamon sticks star anise oranges apples Instructions Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Slice apples and oranges thin, really thin. Place in a single layer on cookie sheets and bake for an hour and a half, check every half hour thereafter. Once dry, mix with your spices. Jar and allow to "marinate" for a day before gifting. Visit Julie's site for her post with this recipe. (back to top)
DIY Christmas Crackers

I was an adult the first time I ever even saw one, and I've been enchanted with them ever since! I cannot WAIT to make these DIY Christmas crackers! Boning tool and scoring board (optional). Cylinder shape to size and shape the cracker, like a thick paper towel or toilet paper roll or a Pringles can 12 inch (or larger) cracker snaps Ribbon or string. DIY Christmas Window Decoration by Jaime at Hometalk.com
DIY Christmas Window or Doorway Decoration
Allow me to digress a little before I get into this specific DIY... I remember when I was a kid, and the doorway to my mom's dressing room had a curtain of beads that seemed so magical! Looking back, I can see that they were just strands of inexpensive beads artfully strung, but the visual effect was striking. Things don't have to be expensive to look expensive, and one of the surest ways to get that expensive look is to keep things simple... Arrange off-white candles of varying sizes on the mantle or in the fireplace (if you don't use it for fires) Display ornaments of similar shapes but varying sizes, or, conversely, different shapes of roughly the same size and color. Think in terms of "three." If you have a candle display on your mantle, have a couple of other similarly-themed candle displays on your coffee table, dining table, etc. Or, for another example, if you use white lights on the tree, also use white lights on the stair banister and in the windows. Your guests will perceive the consistency (consciously or unconsciously) and come away with a perception of well-planned harmony, which tends to make them feel homey and comfortable (without necessarily knowing why). The same goes with scents. If your holiday desserts run to apple and pumpkin pies with cinnamon, cloves, and cardamon and wassail with a bit of spicy orange, then have potpourri or scented branches or brooms with similar smells - subtly! - in the foyer and (very, very subtly) in the hallway near the guest bedrooms. Ok, now for the ornamental window decoration. For less than $10, you can hang ornaments from fishing line, border the top with an evergreen bough and a red bow, and it looks fab-u-lous! Materials Christmas Ornaments Curtain rod Evergreen garland A big, red, bow Fishing line, string, or yarn Instructions Tie one end of the fishing line to each ornament and tie or tape the other to the curtain rod. Vary the lengths or create a visually appealing pattern with some high, some low. Mount the garland to cover the curtain rod at the top, then add a big, red bow in the center to make the look complete. Voila! See Jaime's original post and instructions over at Hometalk. Lantern Christmas Decorations
Christmas Lanterns
Have you ever gotten one of those pretty, lantern-style porch lights and had it burn out on you? Well, we did, but instead of tossing (or recycling) it, we painted and repurposed it into a candle holder. This idea is even better; remove the glass, repaint the lanterns in silver or gold, then replace the glass and fill halfway with Christmas ornaments of one to three colors (red, silver, and/or gold, typically), put a sprig of greenery and a bow on top, and they make a great display! Southern Magnolia Christmas Tree for Michaels' Dream Tree Challenge
Themed Christmas Trees
People are drawn to stories, whether they're visual, audial, or written. When you create a themed Christmas tree, it's sort of like making a story in that you're including references to those things recognizable within that theme. For a southern Christmas tree, magnolia and dogwood blossoms are great indicators that this is indeed a southern tree. And if someone points out that anyone is unlikely to find magnolia blossoms combined with certain spruce or pine greenery in nature, then just say, "pshaw! Christmas is as much about imagination as anything else!" (back to top)

Sparkling Iced Willow Branches
DIY Iced Willow Branches by Dana of Make Them Wonder Simple is beautiful! This is a super easy project with an elegant effect. You can make these yourself with some acrylic diamonds, willow branches, and glue, or you can buy them directly from SaveOnCrafts. Dana of Make Them Wonder wrote out instructions for making them: Materials
Iced Branches from SaveOnCrafts Curly willow branches Aleenes Quick-Dry Tacky Glue 2 lb 4.5mm Acrylic Crystal Diamonds (4 packs) Diamond Dust (optional) Step 1. Place a sheet of newspaper down for a work area. Pour a pile of Colorfill Diamonds (and German glass glitter - aka "Diamond Dust" for extra sparkle) in the center. Step 2. Place tacky glue on the branches and smooth it out along the branch(not in big clumps). Then fold the paper slightly then roll the branch in the Diamonds (and glitter). Let set for about 45 minutes. Now work on the opposite side of the branch. Wait 1/2 hour and you have ice covered branches. Easy as that! See the original instructions on Dana's Make Them Wonder blog. Note: after shopping around for materials for this project for myself, I learned that low-priced willow branches with high ratings were few and far between. I found these Richland branches with Prime shipping (but no reviews yet), and these are what I plan to buy for my iced branches project. Who'd have thought branches could be so expensive! (back to top) Gosh, I hope you've found this list helpful for making your holidays lighter, brighter, and more economical. Let me know what you like best, and by all means share your photos and experiences with your projects! -Pamela

HEALTHY GROWTH WITH GHEE PACKING MACHINE MANUFACTURER, NICHROME.
Ghee is widely used in Indian cooking, and is the second largest consumed dairy product in India. The ghee market is growing due to various forces: population growth, rising disposable incomes, easy availability, and greater awareness about the health benefits of ghee. No wonder the ghee market is growing at a CAGR of around 15% during 2019-2024.
Currently, Uttar Pradesh represents the largest market, accounting for majority of the total ghee market in the country. It is followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Some of the prominent players operating in the market include GCMMF, RCDF, Mother Dairy, Patanjali, SMC Foods, etc. (ref: https://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/4763046/ghee-market-in-india-industry-trends-share)
Ghee packaging materials with Nichrome
Although ghee has long keeping quality and can be stored for 6 to 12 months under the right conditions, proper filling and packaging plays a crucial role. Exposure to heat, light, air, water vapour and certain metals can cause deterioration, making ghee rancid.
Nichrome offers technology to package ghee in all the most commonly used packaging materials:
Tin Cans: These are generally used for bulk packs of 5L and 15L, and coated to ensure rusting does not occur.
Glass bottles: These provide excellent protection to the ghee quality. Glass bottles are generally used for retail packs of 100g to 500g.
Semi-rigid containers: These are generally made from HDPE and offer the advantages of being light weight, economical and transport-worthy. These come in different types: blow moulded HDPE bottles, jars & jerry cans; and PET bottles which are odour free and offer gas barrier properties.
Flexible pouches: These are the most economical for ghee packaging. Materials used for pouches are chosen to fulfil the following criteria:
- should not react with ghee
- should be easily available at low cost
- should be nontoxic
- should not allow printing ink to penetrate into the ghee
- should have good barrier properties against spoilage
- should withstand transportation

jamaican black castor oil reviews | Jamaican Black Castor Oil reviews, photos, ingredients
