Aw, maaaannn, another one of my dream houses is back on the market, but this time, instead of the $3.5M price tag it had in 2018, it's now listed for $9.75M + $1,967mo. common charge. The 1910 building is located in the East Village, a desirable trendy part of New York City. It's a large duplex with 5bds, 4.5ba.

First impressions

Y/N L/N’s voice was a constant in Eddie’s house with his daughter, Isla, being a huge fan. He most likely listened to Y/N’s album more than the singer herself had. And as soon as Y/N L/N had announced her tour Isla had been begging for tickets. And one thing about Eddie is that he would do anything for his little girl, so he patiently waited for when the tickets would go on sale. And when they did, he was busy. Of course.
Eddie, even though he has been out of the limelight for a decade now, he never stopped working in the industry. He now was a producer, and god he loved it, he may have loved it even more than being a recording artist. 
So of course he was working with one of his favourite clients, finishing a song they had been working on for a while now. Working past their set hours of today. 
He had only learned he missed the tickets, completely forgetting it was today, when Isla comes barrelling down the stairs of their New York penthouse.
“Dad! Tickets were today! Did you get us some?” Isla said, hastily, clearing having been waiting hours for her Dad to get home. 
Eddie on the other hand can’t believe he forgot, it’s just been the only thing Isla had been talking about for the last few weeks. He felt awful, he never wanted to disappoint her. So he lied. 
“Of course I did, Sweetie!” What else was he supposed to do? When Isla jumped into his arms in joy, he almost didn’t even feel guilty. Almost, because now he had to think of a way to get himself out of this. 
“Oh, my god! Thank you, Daddy! I have to go tell Jenna!”
As soon as Isla was out of Eddie’s sight, his slime slipped right off his face. He had to jump right into action. Being in the industry helped, but being a legend to the industry helped more. Eddie emailed his team, to try their best to get tickets, spare the cost. When they all came back empty handed, he went onto his next order of business, getting in contact with the woman herself. Now he couldn’t exactly get into contact with her directly, he messaged her team. Which in his opinion was close enough. 
Y/N’s team had responded first thing the next morning, sharing a more than enthusiastic response, saying he and his daughter could even have backstage passes. At that Eddie couldn’t wait to tell Isla, not only would she be going to Y/N’s concert, that would also get to meet her idol.

Today was the long awaited day, the day of Y/N’s concert. It wasn’t only Eddie and Isla that were excited for tonight's show, Y/N’s team had told her today that Eddie Munson, a rock legend, and his daughter would be attending her show. Y/N always gets nervous before shows, but knowing that Eddie Munson would be in the crowd and that she would be meeting him after the show, caused an unforeseen amount of worry to form in Y/N’s stomach. 
But as usual all the nervousness and worrying thoughts left as soon as she played the first note of ‘emails i can’t send’ as the concert began.

Eddie did not expect to enjoy the concert that much, the music itself wasn’t exactly his style, but it was the presence that Y/N had on stage that captivated him. And it was at this point Eddie realised he had never seen a picture of Y/N before, and god was she gorgeous. She had this beauty that ran deeper than just her looks, her smile redacted warmth and her kindness shown through when she talked to the crowd. 
Eddie naturally felt awkward about his attraction towards her, she was easily 20 years younger than him, his son had a better shot than he did. But that sure as hell didn’t stop the thoughts that came into mind when Y/N sang her more explicit lyrics. 
And with Eddie’s new found attraction towards Y/N, it only made him nervous for their meeting after the show.

Eddie and Isla were currently walking down the hallway they were directed to, with Isla leading the way. And when Y/N came into their view standing at the snack table, drinking a bottle of water, Isla ran up to Y/N not being able to contain her excitement. Eddie in the meantime, having a reaction to seeing Y/N of his own. Eddie froze, his breath caught in his throat.
“Hi! Oh god, I can’t believe I’m meeting you! Can I have a hug?”
“Of course, sweetie. You’re Isla right?” Y/N said, pulling Isla into a tight hug.
“Yes. I can’t believe you know my name.” As Isla was having an existential crisis, Eddie spoke up, finally having the courage.
“Hi, I’m Eddie. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yes, you too! My parents love your music.”
“Oh, that aged me.” Eddie joked back, with no real offence in his voice. Though he did place a hand on his heart to seal the deal.
“No! Please, you’re not that old. You’re what 35- 40” Y/N said, looking into Eddie’s eyes, her cheeks spread in a wide smile.
“Now I know you’re kidding.”
“No, really I’m not. How old are you?”
“46.”
“No!”
“Yes.”
While the two had their little back and forth, Isla recovered from her crisis, and watched the two adults that were clearly both into each other. So of course in true Isla fashion, she did everything she could to make her idol, a possible new step-mom.
“He’s single too.” Isla blurted out, she’s never been good with filters.
“Isla-”
“Is he?”
“Oh- I- I’m not- you’re not-” Eddie stutters, not knowing exactly how to respond to that.
“Well, I’m staying in New York for a couple weeks, you could call me?” Y/N says, having no idea where this new found confidence of hers is coming from. But nonetheless runs with it, grabbing a napkin from the snack table the trio was standing by and writing for number on  it before handing it to Eddie.
“Um, I have to now. It was so lovely meeting you Isla, and it was great meeting you Eddie..”

Good morning Nalyra! Hope you are not too tired and burnt out with everybody’s ceaseless questions already!
I rewatched S2E3 last night and honestly, I think it’s the best episode so far! There are two things I kept on thinking on but can’t find lots of discussions on,
1. Who is Santiago’s maker—lots of emphasis on this mysterious vampire still in the death vault. I see some discussion on the possibility of Lestat being his maker—hence mimic and can fly—and super strong. I mean it is not impossible, Santiago/Francis being a good actor/artist is a plus for him in Lestat’s book…what is your theory on that?
2. The “wife” who is buying the painting for “her husband” in Dubai—lots of setups and screen times went in there as well, who are the buyers? I thought it might be Jess —a la Talamasca’s rescue team coming for Daniel. Or the real Marius? Or Lestat? If he is not in a coma in the penthouse but somewhere else becoming a mega rockstar in realtime or it’s all red herring?

Yeah, I have seen the discussion re Santiago as well - but that would imply that Lestat must have left Louis and Claudia during the years they had thrown him out of the house, right? - and I cannot quite see that. Because Louis noted how the gifts came in waves, like the tides. So I think Lestat actually went and searched for gifts and tried again, and again, and again, and I don't think he went to New York and left his two (vampiric-wise very weak) vampires alone. ESPECIALLY since he knew Louis was healing and back on his rat diet.
OR it would mean that he had done that with Louis around? IDK. IF that's the twist they introduced, then they better make that solid, time-wise^^.
And as per the "wife" - I have reblogged a post a while ago that I also thought about - namely that wife being Pandora.
I mean... the triptych was not up for sale, right? So someone had to know they had it. And knew what he had to offer to rouse their interest at all. I'm not sure.
Someone is keeping an eye on Daniel in that penthouse, including on what is spoken. And I firmly believe that call from the lawyer was intentionally at that point to give Daniel a moment to look at the files.
I mean... it could all be a set up by the Talamasca as well of course - and then someone in the penthouse would need to spy for them.
But... I am of the opinion that real Rashid IS actually "real Rashid"... and if he is then he has a connection to Marius. I mean... what would the Talamasca offer any of the vampires in that penthouse? And the servants in there would always need to fear to be killed, and know that, too.
So... I don't think we can tell just yet?
But... I am very much looking forward to it clicking into place :P

Now I am plagued by HCs and imagines of Bucky's son and Rhett's firstborn (a girl he adores) being betrothed since they were like 14.
Now you're gonna have to put up with me.
• I think Alice was definitely unhappy and dissapointed when she saw she had a girl. She basically threw a fit, wouldn't hold her, wouldn't feed her, wouldn't even name her. She's a Chicago Wife, all her plans involved a boy, her whole life basically revolved around having an Heir. A girl is only a bargaining chip; now she'll have to wait even more to try again. Rhett was the complete opposite. He was sorta excited about the baby in general? He too expected a boy, its the way his whole life has been arranged- a daughter completely demolishes the plan. A daughter he can spoil. A daughter he can love without having to train. A daughter can be only his, at least for now, not the business'. He calls her Mina because he'd watched Dracula the other night and he'd only ever thought of male names so... it works.
• He eventually does have a boy. He loves his son of course. But things are not the same- everyone loves his son. His parents, his wife, his men. Mina is loved too, but it's always tinged with the slightest bitterness... no one can forget she was born first. Alice never fully warms up to her, he knows, only pays attention to her education, manners and makes passing comments about how she'll make a good match if she grows up pretty. It makes Rhett twitch.
• But of course Mina grows up gorgeous- it doesn't take long for people - boys - to notice. And Rhett isn't dumb, Mina would be a catch even if she were hideous, but he's never been unaware of just how ruthless his city can be to the women in his world, how uncaring. A man older than Rhett, one of his father's men that stuck around enough to make himself a fortune moving drugs, makes a passing joke about how Mina is his best investment yet, leering eyes focused on his eleven year old quietly eating at the table, and Alice agrees with a giggle. Rhett kills him himself that same night.
• But he had a point, and now Rhett can't stop seeing it. Boys in high school, in college, men his own age and older looking at his baby like they're...waiting. Like the second she 'becomes a woman' she'll be up for sale and they're all thinking up the different ways they can purchase her. Women in the Chicago Outfit are little more than accessories and maybe Rhett is an asshole for not seeing it until it affected his daughter but sue him, he doesn't want that for her.
• One day everything goes wrong. One day he wasn't looking and one of his men betrayed him, his right hand died and now he's got a war on his hands and he has to make a decision. Gather up his allies and think of something. He keeps his son close, Alice refuses to leave her precious boy and talk around fourteen year old Mina is bad enough he has to make a decision.
• Charm honestly thought he was kidding all those years ago. Yeah, betrothal still happen in their world but outright arranging one is kinda... old fashioned? These days you just gently nudge your kids in the right direction and they get the idea. But no, Rhett hasn't been subtle about anything in his life. So of course she's on a phone call with him talking about debts and loyalty and his daughter and her son at three am. "You're the only person I can trust with this, with her" he says. And okay, sure. His daughter can come stay with them until things settle down in Chicago. Yes, per their contract years ago, New York will back him up.
• Mina's stay in New York lasts about a year. Her father is the only one that calls her- her mother is happily living out the fantasy where she doesn't exist. Her brother mostly texts her memes when she asks him if he's okay so she knows he's not and she's just... isolated. She isn't from New York, but she can't be from Chicago either... and apparently one day she'll marry the boy who also lives in the penthouse? Honestly she doesn't even see him most of the time (which is a shame because he's two years older than her and just as hot as his dad but whatever) Mina is pretty sure he's knee deep into his training and too busy to deal with the weird girl that just showed up one day in the middle of the night. Mr Barnes is never there either, training his son or helping her father with his war, nor is his wife, the only woman her dad has ever spoken with true respect in his voice. They're both super nice to her, though. Overwhelmingly so- she isn't this used to someone other than her dad caring so much about how she's feeling or if she needs anything. They insist she never eat dinner alone, ask her about the online classes she's attending and they LISTEN when she answers.
• So her temporary guardians are great, her fiancee is far from one of the creepy boys from back home and the city is new and exciting... but her favorite part is the Barnes' daughter. Mina isn't used to being friends with girls her age, she's grown accustomed to being a friendly acquaintance and to keep any other girl at arm's length because they could turn into an enemy the second they feel like it; the friends her brother makes are the ones that matter, they'll be the powerful ones one day, at least that's what her mother says, so Mina isn't that well versed in the whole friendship thing.
• But the Barnes' daughter could give a shit about that, apparently. She's beautiful, confident and she'll inherit her mother's territory one day, so of course she felt no issue bursting into her room one day and introducing herself before announcing they would be best friends and did she want to get milkshakes?
"What?" Mina says, still shocked and in her pajamas.
"Milkshakes. Shit, do you not have those in Chicago? Mom said it was old fashioned but-"
"Of course we have them but... it's one am."
"Okay? Is that a yes or-"
They're best friends because ofc she's never wrong. They literally spend all their time together, Mina kind of expects her to drift away once she goes back to school but no, they remain steadfast. And Bucky's daughter kind of really likes how her brother turns red and stammering whenever Mina is around.
"I don't think your brother likes me very much," Mina whispers to her after her fiancee tried to talk to her for the third time that week but failed yet again because his stupid sister is just there, hogging her and making her laugh, so he just got moody and stomped out of there.
"No, like seriously," Mina complains in the middle of a party they snuck into. "I think he hates me." She sips her drink and ignores the way the boy she's supposed to marry glares at her. (He's actually glaring at all the other guys trying to get her attention.)
"I'm not that thrilled about basically being sold either, but you don't see me being a bitch about it," she informs her friend when she watches him get knocked down in a fight because ofc the first time he gets the nerve to talk to her is just before the definitive cage match of his life and of course the prospect of talking to the beautiful girl that lives in his house, that his parents adore and his sister can't stop talking about is actually more terrifying than losing the fight so of course his dumbass jumps in the ring before time and nearly loses. (He wins the fight anyways, but Mina thinks he literally would rather get beat up than have to put up with her so yeah).

Like, that night, I think Rhett legit tortured him the whole night to the point of him begging for death, only then he killed him😏 There wasn't a bone that wasn't broken in his whole body, and his face was messed up beyond recognizable 😏

I think it's around that time that he realized what Charm meant during their break up, how she would never stay in Chicago even if New York wasn't an option 😏

"I'm not that thrilled about basically being sold either, but you don't see me being a bitch about it," she informs her friend when she watches him get knocked down in a fight because ofc the first time he gets the nerve to talk to her is just before the definitive cage match of his life and of course the prospect of talking to the beautiful girl that lives in his house, that his parents adore and his sister can't stop talking about is actually more terrifying than losing the fight so of course his dumbass jumps in the ring before time and nearly loses. Often when we think of the term "It Girl" some names that come to mind are Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, or even Serena van der Woodsen. But someone who is often left out of that category or even forgotten comes from one of the wealthiest empires in the world. Meet Casey Johnson, the Baby Powder Heiress. Casey Johnson (born Sale Trotter Case Johnson) was born on September 24, 1979, to philanthropist and socialite Nancy Sale Johnson, and owner of the New York Jets and heir to J&J Woody Johnson. Casey was the oldest of three children: Jaime Johnson (b. 1982), and Daisy Johnson (b. 1987). Casey was raised in Manhattan's Upper East Side neighborhood and resided at the penthouse at 834 Fifth Avenue. Although Casey was born into great privilege and wealth, home life for Casey for some would be a dream come true but to her it was anything but so. Casey's father Woody wasn't a lovey-dovey kind of guy, and because Casey was so unique, he didn't know how to show his love to her. This would cause him to often over-indulge her and even get her a brand-new car before she even had a driver's license. At the age of eight, Casey was diagnosed with diabetes and even co-wrote a book with her father entitled Managing Your Child's Diabetes.
While living in New York, Casey attended a number of schools, first she attended the private Chapin School, then the all-girls private Marymount school, and lastly the Dwight School where she went alongside Paris Hilton. After graduating in 2001, Casey attended Brown University for only a few semesters before dropping out after learning her poodle, Zoe would not be allowed to live in her dorm with her. After this, she struggled to find her calling; first, she taught singing to children at Dwight School, next, she interned at her friend and publicist Lizzie Grubman's P.R. firm, and finally got a job as the beauty editor for the Manhattan File. The same year, the magazine went under and her parents got a divorce. This, along with the constant gossip columns bashing her, made Casey take this as a sign to leave the East Coast and head to California. Once in Los Angeles, Casey clung to fellow socialites Nicky and Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Bijou Phillips, and would often be seen clubbing with the wealthy heiresses. Casey gained close bonds with the women and was even asked by Paris Hilton (after her sister Nicky declined) if she would join her in participating in the Simple Life. Casey declined and felt that joining a reality show would halt her nascent acting career or make people not take her seriously. Johnson would later call this the "stupidest mistake of [her] life". In 2002, Casey [along with Elisabeth Kieselstein-Cord and Nicky Hilton] would be featured in the documentary "It Girls", which was filmed during New York Fashion Week. In 2004, Casey's Beverly Hills home was burglarized while she was at an MTV after party. Casey would then place blame on playboy playmate Nicole Lenz for being a part of the scandal. Back in New York, Casey's parents became concerned about their daughter's constant partying and alleged substance use. Sale and Woody Johnson would then fly to Los Angeles to stage an intervention for their daughter in hopes she would check in to a rehab center. Casey didn't take this too well and according to her mother said the following, "I don’t need any help. I'm sorry you wasted a trip." After this, Woody would essentially wash his hands of Casey.
In January 2006, Casey, her then-boyfriend John Dee, and her aunt Elizabeth "Libet" Johnson traveled to Cambodia to visit Sovann Komar, the orphanage Libet had established in Phnom Penh in 2003. Sometime after, Casey broke up with Dee and quickly noticed a close friendship and or connection with John and Libet and began to assume the two were having an affair, eventually emailing her aunt on February 19, 2006, with the subject title "I’m sure u r sleeping with him." Libet replied "I know you know in your heart that those things you just wrote me are untrue. I really don’t know why you want to lash out at me, when I have done nothing to hurt you.… Please leave me out of your problems." Libet would later tell Dee about this in an email, writing "But I got a very, unhappy phone call from Casey, telling me that, "if I ever talked to you (or your Mother) again, she would never speak to me again." Somehow, someway Page Six obtained emails between Libet Johnson and John Dee. One email from February 3, 2006, read the following, "Your zest for life and passion for everything you do is infectious. I know we met for a reason Love, Libet." When asked for comment, Casey said the following "I think [my aunt] needs help," She told the New York Post. "I feel sorry for her. She's single. She's been divorced umpteen times. She's afraid to go out in public." "She was sleeping with my boyfriend, who I was in love with," she finished "An old woman with a lot of money is a very powerful aphrodisiac." The article was all over New York City by March 29. And this was the last straw. Woody Johnson was infuriated. He felt that Casey was using the tabloids to get revenge, and just like that, he cut off his daughter Casey from her trust fund which contained millions of dollars.

Through all the madness, Casey felt she was missing something, Casey Johnson wanted a baby. Her mother sale was openly against it and even told her "You don’t have your own life together, how are you going to keep track of somebody else’s life? This is not a puppy that if it doesn’t work out, you can give it to a friend." Despite her parents' pleas, in 2007, Casey adopted a baby girl from Kazakhstan she named Ava-Monroe, in honor of Marilyn Monroe. Kathy Hilton organized the baby shower and Nicky Hilton was given the "godmother" title. Even though she had Ava, her estrangement from her father didn't sit well with her. So much so that in 2008, Casey flew to New York with baby Ava so her father could meet his granddaughter and end the estrangement. Upon arrival at the East Hampton estate, Casey was met by her father Woody's wife Suzanne Ircha. According to Casey, Suzanne opened the door and said "What are you doing here?" After explaining her reasoning for being there Ircha told her that Woody was not home and then said quote "This is my house, so leave." to which Casey replied, "This is my father’s house and I’m staying here until he gets here because I want him to meet my daughter." After a war of words, Suzanne called 911, and around the same time the police arrived, so did Woody Johnson who demanded his daughter get off his property and "never come back". After this, Casey would make countless efforts to get in touch with her father, only to be ignored, and within a year, Casey would slip back into a dark place. Casey would then begin dating socialite Courtenay Semel, the daughter of former Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel and Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive alum. Semel had previously dated actress Lindsay Lohan and internet mogul Tila Tequila. Casey and Courtenay's relationship was very toxic and tumultuous and it was even reported in January 2009 that during a physical fight, Courtenay set Casey's hair on fire. It's unclear what started the fight but nonetheless, they stayed associated, I digress, by the summer of 2009, Casey was back to living the party girl lifestyle in LA and once again her mother Sale worried for her health and mental state.

In June 2009, Casey was scheduled to be hospitalized at the Cliffside Malibu clinic while her mother Sale had plans to bring her granddaughter Ava back to New York while Casey was treated, but none of Sale's plans went to fruition when Casey threw Sale out of her house, along with her luggage. Things got so intense that even the police were called after Casey told them that Sale was trying to take her daughter from her. Her mother said quote, "Casey knew in her heart that she couldn’t take care of Ava, but she couldn’t ego-wise and illness-wise say: 'I know I can’t take care of her like she needs to be cared for …'" That year in August, Casey was hospitalized for her diabetes. It was alleged that Casey's alcohol and drug use was preventing her from properly caring for her diabetes. This was when the decision was made to give her daughter Ava to family friend Kim Richards when she checked into rehab at Cliffside Malibu. Allegedly Casey became enraged with the fact that Ava began calling Richards "mommy". Johnson then sent her friend British socialite and model Jasmine Lennard to go retrieve Ava. Casey would be hospitalized two more times throughout summer and early fall. Sale Johnson would then make the decision to cut off her daughter and would not allow her daughter to access any money unless she went to rehab. Sale then gained custody of Ava and brought her to New York. At the time, Casey was renting her home in Los Angeles and when her mother cut her off, she could no longer pay her bills and was only getting deeper into debt, her power was shut off and she hid her Porsche in her garage so it wouldn't be repossessed, "It was like Grey Gardens" one source said, "There are dirty dishes everywhere and rotting food. There is graffiti on the walls. The pool looks like a swamp." In November 2009, Casey's mental state took a turn for the worse when she attempted to take her own life. She sent a text to ex-girlfriend Courtenay Semel saying "I've taken a lot of pills, and I’m going to sleep forever." Semel called an ambulance and upon arrival found Johnson unconscious. Casey was then admitted into intensive care for three days. Days after her release from intensive care, Johnson broke into her friend Jasmine Lennard's house and evidently stole clothes, jewelry, and lingerie. Lennard received a tip from Courtenay Semel who told Jasmine to call the police after seeing Casey wearing Jasmine's clothes when Casey was getting into bed with her. When the authorities arrived, they recovered all of Lennard's items and Casey was ultimately arrested for grand theft and held on $20,000 bail. When asked for comment, Lennard stated the following, "I tried to get her off drugs and alcohol. I tried to get her into a twelve-step program. I tried to help take care of her daughter. I’ve given her money." She continued, "I am the only person who helped this girl, and I believe she was obsessed with me, and thinks in her mind we had some kind of affair." she closed with, "She breaks into my Hollywood apartment, masturbates in my bed, has a shower in my bathroom, takes everything in my apartment" before vowing to "teach [Casey] a lesson".
After feeling betrayed by Courtenay Semel, Casey turned to Courtenay's ex-girlfriend, Tila Tequila. According to Tila, Casey showed up a mess and needed someone to talk to, but not even a full month later, Tila revealed via Utream she was engaged to Casey, sporting an alleged 17-carat ring, which Courtenay Semel claimed was the same fake ring Casey had privately proposed to her with at the Sundance Film Festival. On December 29, 2009, Casey and Tila would allegedly get into a big fight. Casey would leave her dogs at Tila's Studio City house while she stayed in a friend's guest house. Casey would spend New Years alone. On January 4, 2010, Casey Johnson was found dead by a housekeeper. The official cause of death was ruled diabetic ketosis. She was buried on January 12, 2010, at Trinity-All Saints' Cemetery in Princeton, New Jersey. She was 30 years old.

In a centenary homage to Mao Zedong’s landmark 1927 essay Report on an Investigation of the Peasant Movement in Hunan, Xi Jinping announced he will be publishing his own essay updating Mao’s political thought for 21st-century China. Xi’s essay, titled Report on an Investigation of the Billionaire Movement in Shenzhen, is slated for publication in 2027. In an exclusive interview with kites, Xi explained that while Mao identified the poor peasantry as the primary social force for revolutionary change in China, he thinks a concrete analysis of concrete conditions reveals billionaires to be the engine of social change in China today.
To write this essay, Xi spent considerable time talking with billionaires in Shenzhen and learning about their conditions of life in penthouses and mansions. We asked Xi if he had any difficulties gaining access to this exclusive social class, and he explained that “in fact, it was quite easy. Most of these billionaires are good friends of mine! They see me as one of them and appreciate my leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.”
Xi’s essay promises to explain the rise of the contemporary billionaire class in China. Many of them started as princelings (children of Communist Party leaders), and some even shrewdly became Red Guards during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in order to knock down their opponents and boost their revolutionary credentials for careerist purposes. In 1976, they waged an epic rebellion to overthrow the oppressive rule of the proletariat and peasantry in China. After the success of their uprising, they implemented Deng Xiaoping’s dictum that “to get rich is glorious.” They enriched themselves by acquiring privatized state assets and forming a united front with American billionaires to exploit Chinese labor, brutally suppressing resistance from workers and peasants in the process. Then, in the 2000s, the billionaire movement in Shenzhen reached a point of strength that allowed it to break its united front with American billionaires and begin to exploit labor and resources outside as well as inside of China on their own.
Asked by kites whether his celebration of the billionaire movement in Shenzhen contradicts his recent policies aimed at curtailing the unbridled power of Chinese billionaires, Xi Jinping explained that “as Mao taught us, sometimes to right a wrong the masses have to commit excesses. In its movement to overthrow the oppressive rule of the proletariat and peasants, the billionaire class had to go to certain excesses, whether in their opulent lifestyles or in financial speculation that threatened economic stability. Given that the billionaire movement in Shenzhen has now achieved total victory, it is time to curtail some of its excesses.”
Upon its 2027 release, autographed copies of Xi Jinping’s Report on an Investigation of the Billionaire Movement in Shenzhen will be exclusively available for sale in North America at the People’s Forum in New York City. Asked for comment on the upcoming publication of Xi Jinping’s epic work, Manolo De Los Santos, Executive Director of the People’s Forum, exclaimed that “it will be really good for my career!”

LOSING GROUND
Once, at a dinner party I attended in Brooklyn, a guest talked about seeing baseball games at Ebbetts Field as a boy and then stopped and started crying. For those of us who remember now-gone places in the city, like the lobby bar at the Royalton Hotel, the sales floor at Alexander's, or the dining room at Florent, they remain powerfully present. An exhibit at the New York Historical Society called Lost New York catalogues some of the more prominent.
So much of the city's physical development is driven by finance that cyclical turnover, demolition and construction seem inevitable. Real estate practice is ruthless and even good architecture -- even undeniably great architecture -- gets caught beneath the wheels. The McKim Meade and White post office on Eighth Avenue was gutted to to create Moynihan Train Hall. The original Penn Station, the masterwork of McKim Meade and White, was razed in 1963 for today's Madison Square Garden. And that building was intended to replace a stadium in midtown that replaced McKim Meade and White's original Madison Square Garden, which was razed in 1926 for an office tower. It's a sad and costly logic.
European downtowns are dotted with centuries-old buildings that inventive designers have adapted again and again, over centuries, to accommodate inadequate insulation, plumbing, mechanics, and circulation systems. In New York City the Landmarks Preservation Committee fetishizes prewar (WWII that is) buildings, making it illegal to remove granite paving from the sidewalk and build penthouses visible from the street in certain districts. But in general Americans remains ambivalent about history. Lost New York hints at other, deeper losses as land changes hands for political reasons. To create Central Park in 1837 the city claimed the residential blocks along Central Park West in the 80's that comprised Seneca Village, a thriving middle-class African American community. They thought nothing about the those who lived there and owned the land outright.
During the Depression those left without homes built small houses for themselves inside, forming a Hoovertown in view of the grand apartments along Fifth Avenue and Central Park West. They were removed forcefully by city authorities, who objected to the optics.
One thinks back to the primal trespass, when German trader Peter Minuit purchased Manhattan for the Dutch East India Company for 60 guilders from the Lenape, people who had no notion of land ownership. The city's contours are reshaped continually, strategically, by those in power, until others claim power over them.
