I’m watching the opening concert for World Pride and feeling aaalllll the semi-closeted raised-Catholic feels.
Courtney Act’s Broadway style number ‘we’ve always been here’ actually brought tears to my eyes.
This is bloody powerful

" A new gas pipeline (even if it is for gas that ends up being used domestically) will not make gas cheaper. As I wrote a decade ago, now that we’re connected to the world market, domestic supply makes no difference to prices. By contrast, Aemo notes that “lower cost, lower emission renewables will offer homes and businesses the electricity they need, with greater insulation from international price shocks”.
You might think this is just greedy companies taking us for fools. But no, the government is very much along for the ride.
The “future gas strategy” released by the resources minister, Madeleine King, in the week before the budget made it clear that the government was committed to more gas.
Australian governments don’t charge royalties for gas drilled offshore, so we give it away for free and they end up paying bugger all petroleum resources rent tax (PRRT). And if it is drilled onshore the government excludes it from being subject to the PRRT.
Inpex is a Japanese company that operates the Ichthys LNG gas field off Australia’s north-west coast.
It pays no royalties for the gas it extracts.
It exports all of it to Japan, where it can then be on-sold to other nations. Taxation? Pfft. The Ichthys LNG gas field was projected to never have to pay any PRRT.
Last year the foreign minister, Penny Wong, berated the opposition and the Greens in the Senate for voting against a massive expansion of the gas industry: “You know what you’ve been doing? You said no to Santos. You then said no to Woodside. You’ve said no to Inpex.”
At least we know who the government cares about.
This current Labor Government is free to ensure fossil fuels are released with excess abandon, with little media scrutiny and with less recompense to the Australian citizens who own the gas and will suffer greatly from the climate change caused by their emissions.
And on that score let me leave you with one final thought – for the first time each of the past 12 months set records for the hottest individual months.
"
Vote. Them. Out.

Senator Penny Wong is marrying her partner Sophie
Tumblr media
Foreign Minister Penny Wong is reportedly set to marry her partner Sophie Allouache after almost 20 years.
The Labor Senator, who’s from South Australia, met Sophie almost two decades ago in 2006. The couple are the proud mums of two daughters.
News.com.au has confirmed Penny and Sophie are now planning to marry.
Penny’s team wouldn’t confirm nor deny any details, but guests have confirmed the invitations have been sent out.
Penny Wong and Sophie Allouache are mums of two
In 2017, after Australia voted a resounding yes in the same-sex marriage postal survey, Penny Wong famously cried tears of joy in images that went around the world.
“I hope everyone in this parliament has heard the resounding voice of the Australian people today, a mandate for change, a mandate for equality,” she said that day.
“Because it is time. Thank you for standing up for fairness, thank you for standing up for equality. Thank you for standing up for our families.”
Sophie gave birth to the couple’s first child Alexandra in Adelaide in December 2011. The couple’s second daughter, Hannah, was born in 2015.
Penny told the parliament in 2017, “[Same-sex marriage] is the most personal of debates because it’s about the people who matter most to us. It is about the people we love.
“To Sophie, thank you for your love and commitment and for all you do. To our beautiful daughters, Alexandra and Hannah, I work for and fight for the world I want for you.”
Penny Wong was first elected to the Senate in 2001. She was Australia’s first openly lesbian woman in parliament and cabinet.
To all Australians thank you for standing up for fairness and equality. To my colleagues and all those who fought for this great outcome, thank you. pic.twitter.com/g8gaQJtzyC

FOR AUSSIE FOLLOWERS - the Albanese government continues to actively perpetuate genocide in Palestine.
In case you haven’t been keeping up, recently;
- Albanese attended a private Katy Perry party funded in part by a prominent Israeli businessman.
-Albanese hasn’t released a single statement pertaining to the NSW policeman who brutally murdered two gay men just before NSW Mardi Gras, nor has he reigned in the NSW police commissioner who treated queer people not wanting police at pride following this tragedy as a major insult.
-Albanese’s office claims they haven’t received any emails asking the Australian government to not support genocide but is actively hanging up on calls.
While taking strong action now, it’s important to recognise and remember for future elections just how Labour sees its constituents.
