Also, given that it's still summer here, i have decided I'm going to start wearing my band tshirts to the rink.
Which doesn't seem like it will be a thing until you realize that significant amount of those tshirts are from a rather anxious punk band.
My favorite has a picture of cardinal George pell as the devil with the slogan 'go to pell' i big red letters.
Might wear it at Easter....
#figure skating#ducky does a skate#adult skater#shells on ice#just waffling on#back on my bullshit#band shirts#i don't need to be like this but why not for shits and giggles?#harmless fun and all that...#time to be a menace

When fans stop Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom in restaurants, the rink or on the street to ask for autographs or photos, he’ll occasionally turn to his six-year-old daughter, Haley, to run through a list of questions.
“Why are they doing that,” he’ll ask his wide-eyed daughter. “Do you know?”
“Yeah, because they love you,” she’ll respond.
Backstrom will prod more: “But why do they love me? Do you know that?”
Haley, confident as any six-year-old could be, isn’t stumped: “Yeah, because you play hockey.”
“There you go,” Backstrom says.
BIG
Ben and Holtby’s daughter Belle, 5, are two of the few Capitals’ children who grasp the concept of their fathers being NHL players, and Ben especially isn’t afraid to tell, well, everyone.
“Definitely some embarrassing moments for us because they’re kids,” Holtby said. “They don’t know; they aren’t scared to announce it sometimes. They don’t understand why Dad doesn’t really want that announced sometimes. I mean, we’re trying to make life as normal as we possibly can.”
The opposite side of the age spectrum is Alex Ovechkin’s son Sergei, who is just over a year old. Now learning how to walk and talk — his first words (all in Russian) were “mama,” “papa” and “gimme” — Sergei attended his first Capitals game Oct. 14 against Colorado, joining Dmitry Orlov’s first child, Kirill, who is three months old. Children such as Holtby’s and Backstrom’s gets Ovechkin excited about Sergei’s future.
DAD
Then there’s John Carlson’s four-year-old son, Lucca. Unlike his one-year-old son Rudy, Lucca tells his friends his dad plays hockey, but John says, he doesn’t get the whole “hockey is a job” thing.
“He thinks it’s like his tee ball team probably in all actuality,” Carlson said. “He probably doesn’t think I work.”
With the Capitals’ kids at different stages of their learning process, players are too. Ovechkin says he’ll probably be turning to Backstrom and Holtby for advice once Sergei is a little older. For now, they are happy with little banter back and forth in the room, about what their son or daughter did that puzzled them, and similarly simple joys.
“We can talk once in a while about the kids or what they do or you know how lost we are usually,” Holtby said. “Yeah, but it’s never kind of advice; it’s more just us venting about how much we don’t really know what we’re doing and trying to figure it out along the way.”
ENERGY.
(Samantha Pell off to a extremely strong start as Caps beat writer, coming off the bench for Isabelle Khurshudyan.)

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day searching for four-leaf clovers in one of New York City's parks. Exploring the Big Apple's parks is a great excuse to get outside while maintaining social distancing.
Central Park, New York City's most famous and iconic park is located in the middle of Manhattan. One of the largest urban parks in the world, its 843 acres are filled with lakes, waterfalls, meadows and wooded areas. With countless trails and open spaces, visitors can feel like they have escaped from the hustle and bustle of the City.
New York City's largest park, Pelham Bay Park, has 2,772 acres to explore. Located in the farthest reaches of the Bronx, Pelham Bay Park is more than three times the size of Central Park. With miles of hiking trails and bridle paths, and rich in history and greenery, Pelham Bay Park is worth the ride on the 6 train. Highlights include Orchard Beach, golf courses, the Bartow-Pell Mansion and the beautiful shoreline.
Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux who also crafted Central Park, Prospect Park is a space that feels more organic than its Manhattan cousin. An official, regal entryway at Grand Army Plaza welcomes visitors to the large park. Main attractions include Prospect Park Lake, the 90-acre Long Meadow, the Picnic House and Litchfield Villa.
New York’s first elevated park, The High Line is on the remnants of the West Side Elevated Freight Railroad. This stylish park combines the old and the new featuring beautiful views, over 210 species of plant life, shallow pools, lounge chairs, art installations, food stands, shopping and various historical points of interest.
A modern innovation, Brooklyn Bridge Park, has taken what was once a lifeless chunk of Brooklyn’s waterfront and transformed it into an expanse full of energy. The spectacular views of Manhattan accompany visitors as the park and its attractions are explored. The over 80-acre expanse includes Jane’s Carousel, the restored 1920s merry-go-round, sports fields, playgrounds, basketball courts and skating rinks.
Flushing Meadows, also home to the Queens Botanical Garden, Citi Field, The New York Hall of Science and the Queens Zoo, is always brimming with activity. The highlight of the park is the famous Unisphere, a remnant of the 1964 World’s Fair, which was held at the park.

Ohhhh my god, I thought I’d never get another piece of Carlzner content for as long as I lived, and Samantha Pell has gone and delivered some right to my dashboard. This is an excellent day.
I KNOW. I always feel kinda alone on my Carlzner island now that Alzner’s on the down-swing of his career, and Carlson and Kempny is the hot new thing (which is not my thing but I do not begrudge, as they have an excellent rapport and are both professionally handsome) but this REVIVED ME.
This is the article in question for anyone who doesn’t read the WaPo, by the way. Relevant Carlzner bits:
Eight years ago, Washington Capitals defensemen John Carlson and Karl Alzner would drive home from games together and laugh. Then one of the youngest defensive pairings in the NHL, Carlson and Alzner would go back and forth about “how cool the game was” that night, the big play that changed it or something memorable one of their more famous teammates did.
Their careers mostly ahead of them, they were “just living the dream,” they always joked…
***
“Just seeing the transformation from always being a good defenseman to being a top-five defenseman in the league, it is cool to see it all pay off because it’s been a journey,” Alzner said. “But it’s been a fun journey, I think, too.”
***
Carlson is now one of the longest-tenured players on the team, and he has two sons: 4-year-old Lucca and 1-year-old Rudy. Starting a family and having the chance to bring his kids to the rink had long been a dream. During multiple television interviews, Carlson made sure to close with a simple, “Hi, Lucca!”
“I remember Mike Knuble had the oldest kids when I was young, and just seeing them around the rink, you know, me personally, you think of it as a young guy,” Carlson said. “You’re like, ‘Oh, wow, that would be cool.’ That was me.”
Carlson’s softer side comes out when he talks about his kids — his face lights up with every question. The same goes for when he starts talking about Alzner and other former teammates.
“Once he is in your corner, he’s willing to bend over backwards to help you with stuff and be there for you,” Alzner said…
