“You promise that you’ll both be safe?” Y/n was worried about her boys. Y/n and Peggy were very similar in the way they fought alongside the men. But they weren’t allowed to go on every mission. When they couldn’t be there it made the two women more anxious. Peggy worried about Steve, and Y/n worried for her friend Steve, but mostly for her husband Bucky. Jame Buchanan Barnes. The love of her life.
“We’ll try.” Steve smiled at his lifelong friend.
“We’ll come back, doll.” Bucky stated reassuringly. He smiled at her and kissed her cheek. “Promise.”
“You can’t promise that.” Y/n wished she could just believe him but that's not how war works.
“I’ll come back to you, doll. I promise and I’ll bring this punk back with me.” Bucky rested his forehead to her’s, not a worry in his eyes. He truly believed the words he was telling her.
“We gotta go back.” Steve spoke up standing next to Peggy. Steve smiled at Y/n as the couple pulled apart. “Bye, y/n/n. We’ll be back soon.”
Peggy and Y/n stood next to each other as the two women watched their men leave. Y/n couldn’t help the feeling that something was gonna happen.
^ ^ ^
Y/n tired to keep busy, keep her mind off the fact that Bucky was in danger.
Luckily they came back before nightfall of the next day. Peggy and Y/n smiled as they saw Steve, knowing Bucky wouldn’t be far behind. But when Y/n saw him on a stretcher that's when her heart rate picked up drastically.
“Bucky?” Y/n said out loud in shock at his state before her eyes. “Oh my God.” she covered her mouth at the site of him missing his arm.
“He’s stable, okay? They're gonna help him.” Steve pulled y/n into him, comforting her the best he could. Steve held her tight hoping to calm her, knowing how scared she must be. Bucky was covered in blood and missing his arm.
“What happened Steve?” Y/n asked pulling back some to look up at the blonde. Peggy rested a comforting hand on Y/n’s shoulder. Y/n was trying to keep her emotions in check. Be strong but it was getting increasingly harder.
“He got shot out of a train. I-I couldn't grab him in time and he fell.” Steve stuttered as he explained, telling it just made it feel more real. Scarlier.
“It’s not your fault.” Y/n reached out to hold Steve’s hands tightly, trying to comfort him. Knowing Steve he was taking all the blame for Bucky being hurt.
“It feels like it.” Steve dropped into a nearby chair, putting his head into his hands.
Y/n sat beside him worried for Bucky as well, but also staying strong for Steve.
^ ^ ^
“Y/n?” Bucky said in a rough voice but loud enough for her to hear.
“Right here Bucky.” Y/n spoke up scooting closer to his bed. Bucky had been out of it for a couple days. They had transferred him to a hospital in the city back in brooklyn the morning after they got back to base. Y/n hadn’t left his side since.
“Where’s Steve?” Bucky asked, turning his head to look at his wife.
“He’s right outside.” She told him lifting his hand to her lips.
“He’s blaming himself isn’t he?” Bucky grimaced, feeling more pain the more he woke up.
“Yeah.” Y/n nodded sadly knowing Bucky doesn’t even blame him for what happened. But Steve doesn’t want to believe it.
“What do you remember?” Y/n questioned him, secretly hoping he didn’t remember to much of the traumatic accident.
“I remember being shot at and hanging off the side of the train. Then nothing.” He told her with a shake of his head and watery eyes.
Y/n explained to him what Steve had to her in the last couple days of what exactly happened. There were lots of tears shed. Y/n had Steve come in when Bucky was ready. The two talked and Bucky tried to assure Steve there was nothing he could have done.
Bucky had to say in the hospital for a couple weeks but once he left Bucky and Y/n had gotten a call from Howard to come to his lab. So the couple headed to Stark’s lab to find out that Howard had been hard at work making a bunch of different prosthetic arms for Bucky that were incredibly advanced. He wanted Bucky to be able to have finger control, and to possibly have feeling from the arm, so he could feel hot and cold and touch almost as if it had nerves.
“How’s it feel?” Howard asks, biting his thumb anxiously.
“Good. I can feel heat, cold, touch, just like you said.” Bucky nodded honestly, he was really impressed and immensely grateful. Grateful for everyone's support, and all their hard work to help him.
“Great! That was the goal.” Howard clapped with a huge smile. He felt relieved it had taken a lot of tries and hours to work it all out. But he wanted to give Bucky so normalcy back.
Howard walked away to give Bucky a moment.
Y/n walked closer to Bucky. “You okay?”
Y/n noticed Bucky’s demeanor had dropped once Howard walked away.
“Hmmmhmm.” He hummed not looking at her but at the metal arm now attached to him.
“Bucky I don’t want to push but you have to talk to me.” Y/n pleaded talking lowly so no one would hear her.
“Its not the same.” Bucky mumbled, sadness evident in his voice. He honestly didn’t expect it to be like his real arm, but still it was odd to feel things but feel them in a new way.
“It’ll never be the same. But at least it’s something and Howard is doing everything possible for it to be as much like your real arm as it possibly can be.” Y/n felt bad for him but knew he didn’t need pity. He needed support and someone to tell him the truth in a kind way.
“I know.” Bucky nodded knowing she was right. The arm was made out of the same metal as Steve’s shield, and it had a lot of features that wouldn’t be around for many many decades.
“I still love you. Arm or not my love for you will never change.” Y/n smiled, leaning up to kiss his lips lovingly, hoping to ease some of his insecurities that he is not used to having.
“I love you too. Thank you for sticking with me.” Bucky smiled at her, grateful to have her with him. Staying by his side through everything.
“Always.” Y/n promised. Nothing would separate them. Nothing.

Missing scene from CATFA, based off of the movie and comments in Agent Carter:
Steve: God, if only someone loved me… Peggy: standing behind them with roses Bucky: holding box of chocolates Howard: has balloons and a card [in Agent Carter she says "I loved him too" and I know what they meant but I thought this was funny] Dum Dum: facepalms This is sad.

A Reverse Steve Rogers
Jack Thompson x Reader
Masterlist - Taglist
Requested by @hawaiianpizzaenjoyer !! Thanks for the request, and for being so patient while I got it done! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!
Fandom: Marvel
Summary: Y/N, an Avenger, friend of Tony Stark, and the one who helped Steve Rogers adjust to the 21st century after he came out of the ice, gets flung back into the 1940s when something goes wrong on a training mission. She has no idea how long her stay in the 40s might be, but one way or another, it's going to be interesting.
Word Count: 4,684
Category: Fluff, Humor
A/N: This doesn't follow any of the season 2 timeline lol, just some vague stuff put together for the sake of this story.
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"We could always just find another ticket for her and make up a reason for her to be there on her own..."
"Yeah? Like what? At this event, anybody with the slightest hole in their story is gonna stick out like a sore thumb.”
I looked between Peggy Carter and Daniel Sousa as they talked, frantically trying to figure out what to do with me tonight. They were currently in the middle of breaking up a secret society in Los Angeles, and they had a mission disguised as a date tonight where they'd be infiltrating a fancy party being thrown by said society.
Unfortunately for them, I'd landed in their laps (pretty literally) this afternoon, and accidentally thrown a wrench into their whole operation.
One minute, I'd been doing a training mission with the Avengers. The next, I'd been falling on top of a desk in the SSR in 1947. I still didn't know exactly what had thrown me back in time, but no matter what the cause, the fact didn't change that I was here, and would be for the foreseeable future.
I'd almost had a heart attack when I'd looked up to see THE Peggy Carter, founder of SHIELD and total badass, standing in front of me. I think I freaked her and Daniel out a little by fangirling the minute I got up off the floor, but a stranger landing in the middle of their super high-level organization probably would've landed me in the interrogation room anyway.
Thankfully, I knew Steve Rogers pretty well, and so did Peggy. I'd mentioned his name briefly when trying to explain how I knew who she was, but then I'd been able to use what I knew about Steve and the stories he'd shared with me to convince her I was telling the truth about time travel.
Since then, we'd done some brief introductions and I'd been let out of the interrogation room. I'd been given the bare minimum details of the mission to understand the conversation, and now I sat on the edge of a desk watching Daniel and Peggy talk as they tried to adjust their plans.
"Perhaps Mr. Jarvis would be available on short notice to take her as a date..." mused Peggy.
"Whoa, Jarvis? Oh my gosh, the real person Jarvis is alive and walking around right now. That makes sense," I said, mostly talking to myself.
"That still doesn't solve the problem of them not being on the guest list," continued Daniel, he and Peggy only briefly glancing my way at the outburst.
"Maybe Howard could help us secure another two."
"He already wore out his welcome with these guys to get you in there the first time."
"Did you just say Howard? As in Howard Stark?"
Peggy and Daniel groaned in unison.
"Don't tell me you're a big fan of him too?" groaned Daniel.
"His ego's already big enough as it is," Peggy agreed.
"No, it's not that, I- uh... nevermind." I pushed off the desk, waving off thoughts of Tony. I still wasn't clear on how this time travel stuff worked, and I didn't want to go telling people about Howard Stark's currently nonexistent son without more assurance it wouldn't have any crazy impact first. "Look, you guys clearly don't have space for me in this mission. The best path is a small team, specifically a couple, who can enjoy the night like a regular date while still gathering intel and handling the mission."
Peggy and Daniel shared a look, and I could see an entire conversation passing between them. I continued.
"I might not know much about the forties, but I'm still a capable adult. I'm an Av- I was on a team with Steve to take on missions around the world. I'll be fine handling myself for a bit while you guys take care of business."
"Are you sure?" asked Peggy with a frown.
"We don't want to completely abandon you. Disappearing from your own time and reappearing in another can't be easy," added Daniel.
I gave them a faint smile, momentarily overwhelmed with memories. I'd first met Steve when he'd shown up in the future and needed someone to help him adjust. I'd been a SHIELD agent at the time, responsible for liaising with Tony Stark, so they figured helping a living legend adjust would be nothing compared to that.
They'd been right, and we'd hit it off the bat. When Tony eventually formed the team, I'd been on the roster. And now, I was the one being faced with adjusting to another time.
"It's not easy," I said to Daniel, the smile still on my face. "But I also don't need babysitters when those babysitters have important, world-saving duties to attend to. I actually have a little bit of an advantage, going back in time. I took history classes and whatnot, so I at least have some idea of how this world works."
"Well, if you're sure-"
"Alright! Sousa, Marge, fear not! The cavalry is here."
I turned at the sound of a new voice, but not before I caught Peggy and Daniel rolling their eyes so far back into their heads I couldn't see the pupils. A tall, blond man in a suit was striding across the room towards us, and a second after I started sizing him up he noticed me and did the same.
"Who's this?" he asked, coming to a stop in front of us. Peggy and Daniel didn't answer right away, apparently working together to gather mental strength before entering the conversation with this guy. I just leaned back a bit against the desk and watched.
Peggy and Daniel took a second to make significant eye contact, then sighed as one. Daniel turned to Jack, and Peggy subtly shifted closer to me.
"She's somebody who does a job like ours, but from the future," said Daniel. Jack just stared at him for a minute, then looked to me, and then back at Daniel.
"Sousa, despite what you might think, I'm not stupid."
"Jack, I get that it's hard to believe, but if you actually listen for two seconds-"
Jack huffed and crossed his arms while Daniel kept talking. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Peggy leaning in towards me, and I blocked out the boys' argument as she whispered to me.
"Y/N, I have a favor to ask of you."
"Hit me," I whispered back. Peggy sighed.
"Jack has recently had a moral epiphany," she started. I took half a second to give her a curious glance, and she just rolled her eyes in response. "It's been mostly nice, both to have him on our side and to finally have him respecting me and Daniel and anyone that's not an older man already in power.
"That said, we don't have space for him on this mission. All he's going to do is be a nuisance, and he's far less likely to agree to being benched than you."
"And I take it you have a solution for this?"
"Yes. But it would require throwing you under the bus to keep him occupied tonight."
I paused for a second, giving Jack another good look. He and Sousa were still in the middle of a heated argument while Sousa tried to convince him I was actually a time traveler, and even though they both seemed exasperated, Jack also seemed to be enjoying the back and forth. A smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
"Peggy Carter, it would be an absolute honor to assist you on a mission," I said, turning to her with a smile. "Even if it means spending the evening learning about the forties from a slightly questionable teacher."
"You're a lifesaver," she said, giving me a smile back. She pushed off the desk, moving towards Daniel and Jack to interrupt them but shooting me a wink first. "And don't worry, I'll give you an actual introduction to the decade after this mission is over."
I nodded, then Peggy got Jack and Daniel's attention to put their argument to rest and explain the situation. Jack raised an eyebrow when Peggy told him his job would be keeping me company, but she phrased it well enough that it didn't quite sound like babysitting for either of us. Finally, he agreed, and Peggy and Daniel headed out for their event, leaving me and Jack Thompson alone in the bullpen of the LA SSR.
He stood by the windows, staring out at the traffic below as I spun around in a swivel chair. I kept looking at him, but he didn't look over at me once, at least not that I could catch. Finally, after a few more rotations, I huffed a sigh and pushed myself up. I put my hands on my hips, but Jack still didn't look over.
"Alright, I'm bored out of my mind, which should not be a possibility less than three hours after I suddenly appeared in a different time period," I said. Jack finally looked over at me, raising an unimpressed eyebrow as he did. I continued. "You're supposed to be helping me adjust to this place, since I don't know how long I'm gonna be here. Believe it or not, it didn't take me that long to adjust to this office."
He sighed heavily, but stepped away from the window anyway, stopping a few feet in front of me with his arms across his chest. He stared at me for a few seconds without saying anything, and I just stared right back. I crossed my arms to mirror him and he snorted and rolled his eyes.
"You're really from the future?" he finally asked.
"Did the twenty minutes Peggy and Daniel spent convincing you not settle this matter?"
He grunted, then finally dropped his arms back to his sides.
"Fine. What do you want to do then?"
I grinned. "Any good places to grab a drink and a dance around here?”
****************
"This is only my first week in LA, so if this place ends up being terrible, it's the city's fault and not mine," said Jack as we stepped out of the cab together. I'd taken a second to find a dress to steal from Peggy's emergency disguise stash at the SSR, since my 21st century mission clothes would probably cause a riot if I went out in them, and then Jack and I had jumped in a cab to a spot in town he'd heard about.
"Boooo," I teased as he paid the driver and we headed in together. "You can't consider the possibility of the night being a failure before it's even started! It's a jinx."
"A jinx?"
"Yeah, you know. Like bad luck."
"I know the definition of the word jinx," he scoffed. "I just think it's ridiculous you believe in them."
"Oh, yeah, of course. Actually, I didn't want to tell Peggy and Daniel this, but in the future we've discovered that a lot of things people dismissed as superstitions or bad luck are actually true. Like jinxes. Oh, and breaking a mirror? That actually will mess you up! We didn't realize it until science advanced a little further, I think in the seventies, but it's true."
Jack stared at me for a few seconds, and I stared back with a perfectly neutral expression on my face. Then, he broke into a grin and nudged me with his shoulder.
"You're messing with me."
"I definitely am."
He scoffed and shook his head, but the smile didn't drop off his face. He sighed dramatically, looking up at the club in front of us, then held out his arm for me to take.
"C'mon. You're the one who wanted to experience the time period."
I smiled up at him, then looped my arm through his. He pulled me a little closer, and I'd be lying if I said my heart didn't speed up a bit as we walked into the club together.
Immediately I got hit with the music I associated with the swinging jazz of the 1940s as we stepped into a world of men in suits and women in old-style dresses, all twirling across the dancefloor together.
"Whoa," I breathed. Suddenly, it started to sink in that I was actually in the 1940s, more than 80 years from everything and everyone I knew. A new surge of sympathy for Steve welled up in my chest.
"You alright?" asked Jack, nudging me a little as we stood in the doorway. I took a deep breath in and out, then slowly nodded. "Okay, good. Let's go get a drink.”
I huffed a laugh as he pulled me through the crowd and towards the bar. We managed to find two stools, and Jack pulled my seat out for me before I sat down. I couldn't help giving him a slightly bemused look, which he grunted about as he took the seat next to me.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing," I said, waving him off. "Just, you know... forties."
He turned to stare at me, his eyebrows knit together, but the bartender appeared before he could question what I was talking about.
"What can I get the two of you?" asked the bartender. Jack turned to me, letting me go first.
"I'll have an old fashioned, please."
Both he and Jack looked at me for a second, but I looked right back at both of them like they were crazy for questioning it (because they were). After a second, Jack shrugged and turned back to the bartender.
"I'll do the same."
The bartender nodded, then moved away to make the drinks. I turned and gave Jack a smile.
"Thanks for buying," I said. "I didn't have my wallet on me when I got sucked back in time, and even if I did, I don't think the bartender would be able to accept the kind of bills I carry. I'm not trying to get arrested for counterfeiting a few hours into being in the past."
Jack chuckled. "Sure thing. So, an old fashion, huh?"
"Yeah. It's Ton- uh, it's my friend's favorite drink. He got me drinking them, too."
"Hm. Future sounds like a wild place."
"Honestly, I'd say 1940 is a little wilder."
The bartender set down our drinks, and Jack put a few bills on the table. Then, once he was out of earshot again, I turned to Jack with a smile.
"Cheers," I said, raising my glass in toast. "To new experiences and getting to know each other and this weird ass trip back to the past."
Jack smiled, although I could tell he was fighting it, and clinked his glass with mine before we both took a sip.
"So, Jack Thompson... tell me about the forties."
Jack and I spent the next hour talking about everything from foods that hadn't been invented yet (ranch dressing!) to the weird, national popularity of baseball and how I couldn't wait to see people start getting the memo about the NBA. Some of it was informative, even helpful, but for the most part we just... talked. Laughed. Joked around and enjoyed each other's company like people who'd known each other much longer than a few hours.
For some reason, it just felt easy. Going into this, heading out with someone who was clearly a confident, if not arrogant, man from the 1940s, with Peggy's warnings on top of everything else? Well, let's just say I didn't have the highest of hopes. But by some miracle, whether it was our equally loud and teasing personalities or that fact that I proudly didn't know anything about baseball beyond the fact that games took way too long, rather than the ignorance or indifference he had been expecting... Jack Thompson and I got on like wildfire.
"I'm just saying, when you're watching a legend play, that's the only part of the game that matters!" Jack continued, defending his baseball stance. "And DiMaggio's a legend."
"Yeah, no shit," I scoffed, rolling my eyes to go with it. Jack snorted at my language, but I caught him grinning at me all the same as he took a sip from his drink. "But, unlike in other sports, your legend's only playing for like fifteen minutes out of every hour. Still boring!"
Jack opened his mouth, clearly ready with some other comeback that would do absolutely nothing to change my position, but before he could, the band started up with something I actually recognized.
"Oh my God!" I cried, setting down the now-empty glass that previously held my second old fashioned. "This song- we have to go dance!"
"You know this song?" asked Jack, only looking slightly bemused as he set down his glass and I dragged him towards the dance floor.
"Yeah. Steve plays it all. The damned. Time," I said, finally coming to a stop in the middle of the floor. I moved to drop Jack's hand now that I'd gotten him out here, but he just squeezed it tighter and pulled me closer. "It's one of the only songs from the forties he plays that I can actually stand."
Jack scoffed, wrapping an arm around my waist as we started twirling across the floor together. "You're actually friends with him? Sousa wasn't making that whole thing up?"
"What? No. Actually, I'm the one that helped him adjust to the future not long after he woke up in my time."
Jack nodded, looking thoughtful. "So that's why you recognized Carter? Sousa said you almost fainted from excitement when you first saw her."
"No. I mean, sort of, I guess. But I would've known her even without Steve. She's only the coolest, most badass woman and intelligence pioneer the world has ever known," I said. Jack snorted, and I scowled. "What? You disagree?"
He shrugged. "I mean, I'd probably argue there are some other intelligence pioneers that deserve mention. But... I guess no, I don't necessarily disagree. Just don't mention it to her, alright? I'll deny it, and I don't need her immortalization from a time traveler being thrown in my face every time I work a case with her for the rest of time."
I laughed, and Jack gave me a knowing smile before spinning me out and away from him. He twirled me across the floor before pulling me back to him quickly. We moved in perfect harmony, picking up our pace to match the band and putting the other couples to shame. We quickly got lost in our own little world, to the point that everyone and everything except the music disappeared. When Jack sped up, I sped up a little more, and we easily met each other's challenges, stupid smiles on our faces the whole time.
When a slower song started playing, Jack and I finally relaxed the pace, forgoing the elaborate dance moves to just sway in place and catch our breaths for a minute. I was still a little lost in our moment, enough so that I didn't notice someone else approaching us until he shoved himself part way between me and Jack.
"Hey doll. Mind if I cut in?" The guy leered over me, totally ignoring Jack as he reached for my hand without waiting for my answer. I scoffed, my tired-but-happy smile instantly turning into a scowl. Jack seemed equally frustrated and moved as if he was about to step in and do something about it, but I decided to just take care of it for the both of us.
"Actually, yeah, I do mind," I snapped, fixing the guy with an unimpressed look as I snatched my hand out of his reach. He seemed incredibly surprised by my response, but I plowed ahead anyway. "I'm dancing with someone already, and even if I weren't, I have no interest at all in dancing with you. So... scram. Or beat it. Or whatever people say now."
The man just stood there for a second, open-mouthed, blinking at me in stunned silence. Then, his expression shifted into a scowl and his face started to turn red.
"I- You- How dare you-!"
"Dude, get lost," I said, crossing my arms and staring him down as I talked over him. I glanced over his shoulder to Jack, who also looked shocked but in a pleasantly surprised way, and addressed him. "What's another good way to tell someone to go away?"
He shrugged, a delighted smile growing on his face. "Take a powder?"
"Really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. Jack just nodded, so I looked back at the rude guy. "Alright, take a powder. Hit the bricks. Take a long walk off a short pier. Other creative ways to say leave. I want to dance to this lovely song with my dance partner here, who is not you, so... yeah. Take the blatant instructions."
The man whirled around to Jack, like he expected him to say or do something to reign me in. Jack just shrugged again.
"You heard the lady. I'm not gonna tell you anything she didn't already say."
The man scowled, whipping back to look at me again. I just met him with crossed arms and a look that told him I wouldn't be budging an inch. He spluttered a few more incoherent words in indignation, then stormed off the dance floor and out of sight. I sighed, then faced Jack again.
"How wildly out of place was that for the time period? Both him and me?" I asked. Jack grinned.
"Him? Not very. You? Insanely," he said, taking my hand again as we went back to gently swaying in place. He tugged me a little closer to his chest, and I smiled. "I gotta say though, I sure enjoyed watching it."
"Good. Because I don't actually care at all, and I had a lot of fun doing that."
Jack laughed, throwing his head back before fixing me with a brilliant smile. He twirled me out and away from him again, then pulled me right back into his chest. We swayed together, closer than we'd been all night, and to my surprise I started noticing more than a few butterflies squirming in my chest as I stared up at the SSR Chief. Hm, noted the more logical side of my brain as we moved across the crowded dance floor. Nice, my heart replied as Jack's strong hand laid firmly on my waist and my hand traveled to the collar of his shirt.
Jack and I spent the rest of the night at the club, enjoying the music, the dancing, and each other's company until the place turned on the lights and threw us out. A few times, other men came up to hit on me and "steal me away" from Jack. Each time, I dressed them down and sent them on their way, and each time Jack just grinned and watched me do it. I could still tell he was ready to jump in, that his instinct was to take care of it for me, but he seemed to enjoy watching the jerks splutter and babble in shock and surprise as much as I did.
Afterwards, when we wandered back out onto the LA street together, Jack insisted on escorting me back to Howard Stark's place, where I'd be staying with Peggy. It was going to be incredibly weird staying at Tony's dad's house, meeting him and the real-human Jarvis, but I could process that later. Right now, I wanted to focus on the amazing, less-weird parts of being in the 40s. Specifically Jack Thompson, who I'd just spent a wonderful night enjoying this new time period with.
Jack hailed us a cab, and I rested my head on his shoulder and watched the city go by as the taxi took us out of the city, to the massive Stark mansion. It was basically a 40s version of Tony's Malibu house, and a pang of sadness tightened in my chest when I realized I had no idea when–or if–I would see my friends again.
I took a deep breath and shook those thoughts out of my head as the car came to a stop. All of that was a problem for later, not now. Jack got out first, holding the door for me and offering a hand to help me out, which I took. Rather than dropping it once I stood, he wrapped it around his arm as he asked the cabbie to wait and escorted me towards the house. We stopped on the porch and turned to face each other, and I realized I actually really didn't want the night to end.
"Thanks for showing me around the forties," I said, giving Jack a small smile. "It was actually really fun."
"You don't have to sound so surprised," he griped, but a smile made its way onto his face all the same. "So... I don't know how long you're gonna be here, and obviously we've got a lot of other work to do with Carter and Sousa tomorrow, but... maybe I could take you out again sometime. There's still a lot of forties you haven't seen yet."
"I'd like that," I said, a warm feeling welling up in my chest. I hesitated a second as Jack and I stared at each other on the doorstep, then decided to say fuck it and keep doing what I'd been doing all night: following my impulses. "Quick question: in the forties, if I kiss you on the first date, is that going to scare you off or something?"
Jack grinned. "It might get a raised eyebrow from the cabbie, but I sure as shit won't be complaining."
"Good."
With that, I grabbed Jack's lapels and tugged him towards me, leaning up just a bit and giving him a kiss. It was short, really just a quick peck since we'd just met, but fireworks exploded in my chest at the sensation anyway.
Jack's grin stayed in place as we pulled apart, and his hand lingered on my waist an extra second before dropping to his side. He took a step backwards, towards the waiting car, even as his eyes stayed on mine. I rested my hand on the doorknob, watching Jack and trying to stay in the moment even as he walked away.
"Welcome to the forties, sweetheart," he called as he made it down the porch steps and into the driveway. "I'll see you at work tomorrow."
I waved, a smile on my own face to match his. "Can't wait."
Jack gave a short wave and one last grin before getting into the cab. I watched as he drove away, a smile still on my own face even after I knew he couldn't see it. Finally, after the lights of the cab faded back into the LA night, I turned on my heel and walked into the house.
I'd been in the 40s for less than twelve hours, and I knew for a fact that I hadn't even scratched the tip of the iceberg on exploring the time period, or what frustrations being eighty years removed from everything I knew would bring. But, despite all that, I'd had a blast tonight, and tomorrow I'd get to start working with THE Peggy Carter. Whether I was only here for another few hours or it turned into months or longer, I couldn't help being excited at the idea of everything that was yet to come for me, not least of all my next date with Jack Thompson.

———————————————
—Background:
Jen grew up in a decent sized house with a Russian father and a Italian-American mother, along with her older sister Dottie. When it came to both children, their parents loved them both the exact same.
However, behind the smiles and glittering eyes on both daughters held an small rivalry that over time.
Dottie was always the one-upper of the pair, acting like she knew more and always one step ahead of everything. Hell, Dottie enjoyed having her nose in her young sister’s business, ignoring her most of the day, parenting her like she was a second-mother and treating her sister, Jen, like a pest that she couldn’t stand.
But Jen wasn’t far behind either, as she rather enjoyed sometimes sticking her nose in older sister’s business, taking her sweater without asking and bugging her with whatever new thing she was obsessed with at the moment. The difference was that Jen knew her limits, as she held a fear behind her smile when it came to Dottie, often intimated by her status and rude attuned attitude.
It didn’t help that both ladies couldn’t be more different when it came to their interests.
In result, it often led to plenty of bickering, fighting over every single thing possible and barking off more than they can chew.
However, it all came to a sudden pause when their father Alexander was overseas with Dottie to Russia saying they had business to attend to. Her mother only simply nodded and hugged them both watching them drive away, before entering the house to continue her daily task, asking Jen to follow behind.
The girl was confused on the matter and questioned the trip later that night. Her mother, Fran, simply told her that Dottie was one of the few girls signed off to train and becomes a skilled fighter.
Saying that one day, Jennifer might get her turn to do the same but the young blonde refused the idea. She rather stay home, be a kind young lady, fall in love, paint all the gardens in the fields and learn what she needs to in America. She visited Russia before, as she always found it to be colder and unassuming to her likely.
Whatever Dottie was doing, Jennifer wanted no part of it.
Thankfully, with a small sigh, her mother agreed to her dreams and kissed her cheek.
Years later, Jennifer would learn what her sister was doing and fought to not follow the same path. She had to desire to become a skilled fighter in Mother Russia and train to be become an assistant to The Red Room. But faith had other plans, as her parents promised her to do a trail run, live in Russia and educate herself into getting certificate of achievement.
Just for a few short months. 3 months.
With a deep sigh and small grunt, she did so as promised. In The Red Room, she was made to watch videos on culture, read books, take any notes and practice her knowledge on what she already knows. Not just that, Jennifer was brought in to take up a couple of activities such as dance, carefully handle weaponry, learning basic combat and drive a vehicle, if she ever needs to hot-wire and getaway.
Jennifer wouldn’t admit it but a small part of her enjoyed watching the women in those rooms all move in one single motion like trained dancers, ready to performance for a show on stage, and she was in the front row getting a glimpse of the sight.
She looked over her shoulder as a tall shadow took behind her, she gulped assuming it was one of the teachers ready to shout in her face for sneaking out of her bedroom this late in the afternoon, but instead it was her older sister.
“What?” She grunted out, spinning to face the taller blonde.
The tall blonde held a slinging smirk, “Nothing. Like what you see?”
“You’re new high ponytail or the performance?”
“Both, Fefe.”
“Don’t fall me that. What do you want?”
“Just want to know if my baby sister is enjoying it here?”
“You mean having my wrist cuffed to the bed, being held in a isolated room twice a week with no windows and a locked door? Oh yeah, I love it.” She repiled with a sarcastic tone.
Dottie grinned, “And having me here as a upper classmen.”
“Yeah…that. When are you gonna realize you’re just as insane to enjoy this, Dot? You love it here and actually find it trilling. I don’t.”
“Oh, Fefe, when are you gonna realize that with this opportunity you can be just like me? With grace and perfection.”
“That’s my point. I am not like you and I will never be like you. And when my time is up, I won’t be seeing you ever again.”
And Jennifer was right.
She was out of the building soon enough, in hopes to keep her head down and never have to be stuck in a place like that again. But Dottie did warn her as a hard heavy threat, one day, they will try and offer you a deal, snatched her up and order her to work for them.
Jennifer grunted and hoped with her luck, she wouldn’t. However, as lucky as she was with never being dragged there again, she did have Dottie reappear later on her life once or twice just for add measure…
—————————————
📰~The 1940s~ 💡
Plenty years past since those 3 sleepless months within that building and Jen couldn’t be more pleased with herself to be blessed to see a new path her way.
She was living in New York City, Queens as a waitress and painting on the side. She enjoyed painting the city skyline, the people in the park and her favorite flowers whenever possible. She was what many called her, a cartoonist. And her job wasn’t so bad either, yes the clients can be rude and annoying at times, but she made it work.
And her uniform was her biggest perk of her job. The simple teal-blue dress, her white headband, brown flats and her cute pins over her apron.
It was good, also with the fact she clocked out early to visit the fair, as everyone was there to see all the new attractions, men getting tested to see if they’re qualified for the war, people going dancing and much more. One evening, she found herself reading the newspaper wondering the fair, enjoying the sights, getting a drink and eventually standing in the crowd to see the main attraction.
Howard Stark. The Expo.
Little did she know that the man on that stage would change her life, by becoming apart of it.
She laughed, awed and smiled during the show. Even catching glimpses of his young sibling on stage, who eventually joined him.
She looked over her shoulder noticing a ‘help wanted’ signed stamped over a couple of posters, removing one of the tickets and followed to the small building to see what can could apply for. It seemed with the war going on, they need volunteers to help nurse the men on the field and inside buildings. Jennifer thought for a moment, onto her decision but then realized that it was worth it to help the good wanting to men serve their country.
Two weeks laters, she was working as a volunteered nurse. She got tested, signed off and given new uniform to wear. When a certain doctor asked for her name, it seemed like he missed heard it, as he wrote down a different name under her paperwork.
Instead of Jennie Underwood, he put down ‘Jeanie Wood’.
Jen didn’t know if it was on purpose it or not, but it taken her by a surprise at the name. The last person to give her a similar name like that was her 5th grade English teacher, yet she wasn’t complaining. She liked it, a lot.
And if she had to admit, she enjoyed it more than she expected, making friends with the other nurses, checking on the vitals of men and women, along with cleaning their wounds. It’s also when she met Miss Margaret “Peggy” Carter, who came in to recruit some nurses for an experimental program to help out the war, as she was handpicked to do so.
To say, Peggy Carter wowed Jen was an understatement. The women was kind, fierce, charming, witty, a little sassy, had a stronghold on her role here and cared for others. It surprised her how Peggy took a liking to her during those days spent on the job.
That same week, she met Howard Stark as he was preparing for the super solider experiment that she was apart of. The moment Howard met her, he was dazzled, in awe and flirting with the blonde. That was the first time Jennie ever actually blushed and smiled, turning her face to hide her blush from Howard’s darling compliments and witty comments.
Howard simply smiled at her blushing and went off to finish preparing his equipment for the day, before offering to buy her lunch. His tongue accidentally slipped nicknaming her ‘JJ’ for short. Jennie hesitated as she removed her gloves after preparing the equipment and serum with the other nurses needed for tomorrow. One of the nurses nudged her to say ‘yes’ as Jennie just smiled and nodded, following the brunette out the door.
The following day, she met Steve Rogers, as she was there helping to performance the processor and watching the man transform from a skinny kid to a tall solider. But the cheers and awes were cut short as Dr. Erskine died, causing Jennie to remove a gun off the table aiming at the person who fired the shot, but missed by a close second as the man ran out the door. Before she can get a second to blink, Steve and Peggy raced out the door to follow him. Jennie stayed behind to help, get Dr. Erskine to a more comfort position and calm down the crowd.
After that whole event, things were put back into swings as the war went on, Steve became Captain America serving his country, Peggy was brought to help, along with Howard and Jennie to do their part in serving for the better of their playing field.
Once again, she was given a slight change of clothing instead of white, it was light browns and a dark brown jacket to watch.
Jennie was put to work, not as a volunteered nurse, but a someone who helped with the design and coordinates for any trips. She put her skills to some use, which made her smile. Soon enough, the war ended per say in some victorious cheers and others in sorrows for the ones they lost.
When Steve Rogers went down in the plane, after speaking to Peggy on the radio as their side of the speakers cut to static, Jen was the first to enter the room and pull the English brunette into an tight embrace.

💭 ~Meetings and revisiting the past~📑
Once the war ended, Peggy and Jen stayed friends, keeping Howard in touch of course. As both were brought to working in New York City at The SSR (which would later on become SHIELD), Peggy worked at an assigned sectary despite her endless response to her being able to do more. Daniel Sousa saw more in her, which made the women smile at the thought and respect she got from him.
Meanwhile Jen didn’t mind it being the coffee girl/assistant at the SSR, basically a sectary with a nicer name. It gave her a flexible schedule most days, other days she was spent working later hours at her desk.
Thankfully she had Agent Jack Thompson to keep her company, despite his personality, the man saw Jennie as a little sister whenever she entered the building. As if he wanted to shield her from harm and have her stand back from the tough stuff, even through she reminds him that she seen men come back from the war wounded or worse.
Jack would sometimes buy her burger if they knew everyone was gonna be working a late night. He would often bicker with her and Peggy as the English women rolled her eyes, but Jen would respond by saying that it seems like Thompson has a crush on Carter. Which results in Peggy chuckling at the blonde women.
Things were going fine until Howard Stark was wanted for crimes against the country, recruiting for Peggy to help find the truth and prove him innocent. She even entrusted his butler Edwin Jarvis to asset her with the investigation.
In which Jennie met while she was getting herself coffee one morning at the diner where she used to work as a waitress, ordering Mr. Jarvis a coffee.
Mr. Jarvis smiled and thanked for, offering to pay for her donut as an exchange. They soon became friends after that. Little did Jarvis know that Jennifer would become good friends with his lovely wife, Ana, too.
Jennifer didn’t want any to be thrown too far into the mix of things, as she eventually joined to the two Brits on their investigation.
Especially after the plot thicken, she started to be thrown in for a loop as The SSR all visited Russia and reunited with The Howling Commandos, finding themselves in a building that once held many men and women who were spies.
The beds with handcuffs, weird therapists, scientists and much more on that visit to Russia. At one point, Jen froze as she stayed rubbing her wrist at the sight, as it took A Howling Commando to drag her out of the rooms. Hell, some of their own agents froze at the sights, meanwhile others stayed strong during the fight.
On the plane ride home, Jen started to let Peggy in on why she froze, but not everything, as Peggy held the blonde close. Jen was given flashbacks to those 3 months in Mother Russia, the trips she went on and how during the war she remembered the men she had to nurse coming home lost to confused.
But the biggest punch to the grunt was when she saw her older sister on the streets of NYC, under some false name living at The Griffith Hotel for Women, pretending to be some new lady here and wanting to go sightseeing. It made her sick, especially since Dottie got closer to Peggy and watched her baby sister from afar, with sneaky eyes to see her next move.
That’s when everything made sense to Jen.
Dottie was here undercover working for someone who was framing Howard Stark and having everyone turn against the man. Peggy didn’t fully believe Jennie at first when she came in with her claims, Jack Thompson nor Daniel Sousa did either, but soon enough the truth came into full force.
As one could imagine things took a turn for people at The SRR, as they close in on Howard Stark, the true enemies are revealed and much more to everyone involved. As they planned to draw out the real threat, The Leviathan.
But it goes awry when Dottie Underwood distract the agents while Stark is kidnapped, as her boss uses hypnosis to make Howard drop as gasp he invented called Midnight Oil” to onto Time Square.
Thankfully with Jarvis’s help, they all found them just in time. Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa handled The Leviathan, who’s name was Johann Fennhoff. Meanwhile Jennie, Jarvis and Peggy handled Dottie, while also trying to convince Howard to not drop the gas over Time Square.
To say Dottie was excited to see her sister again in full swing and having a thrilling fight with Peggy was an understatement.
However this time, Jennie wasn’t too frightened to fight her sister again, as she found strategy and strength in herself to be more confident. It was a bigger perk, that this time around, she had Peggy who was more than intrigued to battle Dottie after their last encounter.
In the end, things were brought to light, they defeated Dottie (who escaped), the right people were imprisoned with scheming with Zola and everyone was given a chance to breath once again.
But like always, life for Jen didn’t stop there as she moved to Los Angeles for her next adventure…
————————
🦅~The 50s—60s~ 🕰️
In 1956, things were looking swell for Jennie as she was working for SHIELD in Los Angeles as an agent. She had her own office, meetings scheduled, kept designing models, going out to dinners and the occasional trip for sizable missions.
She discovered she had a little love for the unknown, collecting items, designing, doing presentations and going on trips to report new things back to SHIELD headquarters.
She was the one to design the SHIELD logo and style of the front over the years after all. Her and Howard liked with idea of an eagle with spread wings.
-> Eagles with its keen eyes symbolized courage, healing, hope, vision, resilience and most importantly strength.
However one late spring night, everything flipped on it’s head for Jennie. It was one of their agent’s bridal shower and she was invited to join in the celebration, free drinks and food, of course she was coming.
Yet, she was soon about to regret that trip.
She was driving home in one of SHIELD’s invented cars, that was had a working mentor that connected to the battery phone. She was on the phone was Jarvis’ wife, Ana, talking about how wonderful her weekend was, crossing a simple long bridge, when a light shower of rain started to fall from above. It wasn’t anything unusual, the weather did call for a light shower that weekend, but what took her by surprise is the springing dose of snowflakes.
“Uh, Ana, I’ll have to call you back…” She said, hanging up the phone and hanging it back where it belong.
It was simply magical to such a sight, however it went from beauty to a beast wanting the snowflakes became a slamming balls of hail hitting the car as she started to carefully hurry along the bridge. However the road soon became dangerous, causing her to swirl off the path and hitting the railing as her car went flying and smash into the water.
The faint sounds of the phone could be heard, ringing with a voice on the other end as the car drowned into the large body of water. In the car, Jennifer was silent with bruises and cuts all over her body, her forehead held a large cut that was covered by blood.
Her breathing stopped as her heartbeat slowed down in seconds, her core body temperature dropped greatly. At that very moment her heart stopped beating.
At 8:55pm, a blot of lighten struck the car. The volts of electricity impact was more than strong enough to reset the heart into a clear rhythm. Jeanie Woods—Jennie Underwoods body slowly lifted from the lower end of the car to regain its awareness. Her head rushed to the surface, jolting out of her anoxic state, causing her to draw her first breath in 4 minutes.
Cough and breathing heavy, Jennie regain memory of recent events, using all her skilled strength within her to carefully climb out of the car, knocking the side door open capturing the cool air that surrounding her.
She breathed heavily, spreading outside of the side door and swimming forwards to the surface, finding a pot of greenery in the cold depths of the night. Once she climbing onto the grass, rolling over as she let her back hit the grass such a reliving impact. She squeezed her eyes shut and opened it once again to watch the snowy sky fall onto her cool skin.
Well, she was screwed.
Thankfully she crawled onto her feet and found the nearest gas station, entering a phone booth to call Jarvis to pick her up. And being the good friend he was, the man arrived with a blanket as well, bringing to his house to stay the night. She explained to Jarvis the accident, planning on trying to recall everything she could remember to have it on record of that night and how the car was totaled in the process, but the man didn’t care as long as she was safe and sound.
As the years went, she credited her appearance to a healthy diet, often exercising, skin care, good genes and just plain luck. However actions was required only months laters when she was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction.
“Ma’am, it says here that you were born in 1923.” Said the officer.
“That’s right, officer.” She repiled with a kind smile.
“That would make you 40?”
“Yes. I look young for my age.”
“Ma’am I might have to hold onto this.”
The two talked by the man didn’t look so convinced, asking to come by the station tomorrow if possible and to bring her birth certificate.
That’s when she knew she needed to start packing, calling up family and making a few adjustments to her life. That’s when she moved back to New York City for a while, keeping her job within SHIELD, but taking up studies for medicine to research her condition, talks with other scientists.
But they all slowly came to the conclusion that it seems like there was no results for her condition, despite the records, recalling of events and etc.
It happened again where officers would stop the women and question her appearance, age and name. Even tried to take her into the station, as she would always do what she must to get out of it, even call up a friend for witness.
Packing up once again, making a couple of whole calls and planes to drive off somewhere off the grid of neither New York or LA, she found herself in San Diego instead. Making sure that Peggy, Howard, Jarvis and their friends know what to do, if anyone contract them, remove any records and to do something about the officers who taken her originally.
In result, Jennie Woods went on to change her name, keep her files close to her chest, residence and appearance the best she could every decade. And to never speak a true word of her fate to answer living soul (unless they were family of course).
To her relief, as the years went on things calmed down and she was less frequently questioned, however she would get wondering eyes at work.

🐤~Auntie JJ~ 🪿
-> May 29th, 1970 her nephew Anthony Edward Stark was born.
The day she held that tiny will soul in her arms, she knew she would love him til her dying days. She would take care of him, spoil the boy, and make sure he knew he was loved, even if she wasn’t there everyday to see him.
And that she did.
In the 70s, Maria and Howard knew they would need a pair of helping hands, aside from Jarvis, as they offered for the women to live with them. And of course, she said yes.
Jennie was there every step of the way and she loved it. Watching Tony grow up, taking his first step, first words, teaching him to read and write. Hell, when he was old enough, Tony would draw her so many drawings that she hang up in her office showcasing her godson’s work.
There were plenty of days and nights where neither of his parents were around as work and events took up their time, so in result if she was free, Jennie would do it.
“..’So after Lisa sewed on the missing button, she gave Corduory a big hug.’ The End. Now it’s time for my little bear to go to sleep.” She said closing the book with a smile.
Usually the 7 year old would give her a sleepy remark but after the long day he had, he decided against it. He rolled onto his side getting comfy.
“Auntie JJ?” He yawned in his small voice.
“Yes baby?” She asked standing up and putting the book back on his bookshelf.
“Would you always love me like Lisa love Corduroy?”
Jennie paused what she was doing as a small smile appeared on her lip at the question, she turned out and kneeled over the bed, placing a hand above Tony’s small cheek. Her warm touch smooth his worries.
“Of course I will, bubba” She replied and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
He smiled in returned, “Can we have pancakes tomorrow?”
“We will have to see. But first night night.”
“Night night.”
She gave him one more smile watching as his eyes closed, pulling his blanket closer. When she knew it was clear to leave, she gently closed the door behind her and escaped to the living room to watch a rerun of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Midway through the episode, she paused the taping and through back onto what Tony asked her earlier. She looked down at her lap, playing with the throw pillow in hand and sighed deeply. She knew why he asked that question, with his parents getting busier as the day goes by, especially at such a young age, it makes sense Tony would wonder if the adults in his life still love him.
And she meant what she said earlier, this unconditional love she has for her nephew is true. She adores that tiny little troublemaker, even if she sometimes drives him nuts, it’s one of the reasons she cares for him. He’ll keep on learning , as time slips through her fingers watching him grow up.
She knew she will be always try to be there for him, even if she’s in a different city, she’s only one call away.
And she was right.
Tony’s auntie JJ is there for him every time she can be. The smallest moments and his biggest. His graduations, his first true inventions, taking him out for ice cream, reading him bedtime stories, making him bacon on his birthday, the two of them sneaking off to watch movies late at time and the list goes on.
Hell, if she’s in the same room and near by, JJ is there to poke and pinch Tony when he says something he isn’t supposed to. Which results in him yelling a small, “Ow!” As she’ll give a smile in return or a certain look to tell him to quit it.
There are moments that his aunt JJ would have a date pick him and Tony would try to question his intentions with his aunt. Little did she know her godchild Rei would be the same way in the future. Every single one of her dates biggest haters.

Home videos / Marvel Fanfic 📹
Summary: What if there was a bit of context? A small added perspective on the home video Tony watch of his father?
Timeline setting: Iron Man 2
Established uncle and nephew relationship: Tony Stark & Jason Underwood
Click theses two fanfics for more context on the stories referenced
-> Friends Over The Years
-> What If Jason Stay At Home Stark? (This fic started the AU Saga btw hehe 😉)
Note: This is the scene in Iron Man 2 where Tony looks at old footage and an deleted scene that was supposed to be in the movie 🎥
——
The last 48 hours have been a bust. From long hour drives to the whole wisecracking donut incident downtown in Miami.
After a small load speech from Fury and the tiny reverse side of how things were left, it was time to settle things down.
Jason knew Tony needed some home videos to have a breather, older footage in the storage closet in the basement and some given to by SHIELD themselves.
It was late. The two sat down comfortably on the couch downtown as the projector played a couple of old moments from their past. From black and white to living grainy color.
It flipped across footage that showed Jason dancing with Peggy at a Christmas party to Tony’s first birthday where he smashed cake into his face. Even footage of Jarvis and Maria in the living room painting a wall.
Plenty of things to choose from as the two smiled softly at the small fragments of the past as the tapes just kept on rolling.
There was one snippet of footage that caught the blondes eye as he raised an eyebrow at the date. Not exactly remembering it being filmed as the tape began to play.
It wasn’t until he noticed the background Howard was set in, as he looked away realizing the office turned lab had furniture removed from the screen. It was a huge mess before with paperwork, toolboxes and items scattered around the flooring.
Tony seemed to noticed his facial expression changed and nodded, “What happened? You’re usually pointing out certain things..”
He paused the footage and glanced over at his nephew, “Don’t need to. Just, uh, before video was filmed, it seemed like it was two days after I left..”
“Hm? Sorry, context for the child here.”
He scoffed at that comment and added, “For more than a few days, me and your father didn’t even bother to speak to one another. We had a fight, it was harshly ended by pure shock and anger..you’re father said a few things and so did I involving the context of our current state.. and uh, things happened.”
“Oh, t-that doesn’t sound like you and dad.” Tony scoffed as it sounded like a light joke, “You were buddies.”
“Well we fought long and hard that night.”
“Where was i during all of this?”
“In your room playing with your infamous racetrack.”
“I loved that racetrack, one of the best gifts I ever gotten. Uh, was this the same week you left to go on a trip for work?”
“Yeah, I sorta half lied to you about the trip being just for work since you were only 7 and didn’t know any better. But me and your father needed a small break from each other.”
Tony snorted, “Oh god.”
“What?” Jason reply with a raised eyebrow.
“You sound like you and dad were dating or something with that statement. It’s weird. What was the fight about?”
“You.”
“Me?”
“Well, our friends and family but you were mentioned a couple of times. Your father turned into a huge workaholic and a jerk, which pissed me off. And well, I pissed him off because I was trying to reason with him to cut the crap and focus on the bigger things in life.”
“Me huh?”
“Tony.”
“What? I’m surprised I was mentioned in the conversation. But I get it! Dad was more a work now, play later—or in his case, never kinda guy. I uh..I’ll just let the footage speak for itself.”
————
Tony pressed play as the projector kept the video rolling, he half glanced over at the footage since he was fumbling with an old notebook. Jason was laying down, turned sideways toward the screen listening to Howard talk.
He was introducing himself and Stark Industries as the camera tried to follow him. Howard was leaning against the table, looking over his shoulder and did a double take towards his young son, “Eh-Tony? What are you doing back there?”
It caused both young and older versions of him to face the man who said his name. Howard was telling Tony to put the item he had in his hand back where he got it from. All Jason could remember of a tiny Tony one afternoon telling him that dad seemed angry at him again as he hushed the boys worries. He shook his head at the thought, glancing at his nephew.
He watched the footage as Howard ushered his son off the screen and turning back to the camera man telling him a few things.
Tony looked at his uncle, “You sure you two had a fight? He doesn’t seem that annoyed.”
“It was two days ago after that fight he must’ve filmed this, so he could’ve just masked his anger and annoyance.” Jason tried to explain the best he could.
The footage skipped to a few other scenes of Howard having a small drink from talking nonsense to going off script. He wasn’t as focused, fumbling around with the trinkets on the table and blabbing onto the cameraman.
It was clearly being shown. The man was a bit of a mess.
Tony watched, noticing his father’s moments were similar to his own. He tends to blabber and ramble a lot, especially have his fingers fidget with something. Hell he was holding a old flip phone in his hand. He returned his eyes back to the old notebook with plenty of blank pages.
Jason took one the notebook’s from his lap, handing him the glass of ice cold soda, since he made a deal to cut down on daily drinks for the week. Sober him up a bit. He gave him a half smile in which he returned, glancing up at the footage.
Moments like this, it reminded him of Tony’s younger years where they watched old footage with his aunts and uncles on the couch. Just by the footage alone of Howard, there were flickers in his mind of the little boy who called him that same week he left asking when will he come back home.
Along with the thoughts of him in that very lab that Howard was standing in, where the fight broke out organically into a week long standing debate.
He knew it effected him not coming home after walking out of the house that week, because Howard didn’t expect for Jason to take that step. But he did.
Seeing Howard like this on the footage just spoke volumes itself.
He would never admit it but he was a fumbling mess, more than usual. Cracking lame jokes, pacing around the lab, muttering a couple of things and the way he glanced over at the door as if someone will magically appear.
As if Jason, Maria and or Elizabeth would magically appear to fix his issue and reset the clock for the time he wasted on footage. But neither one of them came, especially after it was clearly said by Howard to his friend to ‘Get out!’ before the blonde left.
It was as if Howard got reminded of those flashbacks from their fight and flipped the scripture of the video. As if he admitted to his mistakes and let the words Jason told him start to set into motion.
He said, “Tony. You’re too young to understand this right now, so I thought I would put it on film for you…I built this for you.”
All of that got Tony’s full attention, leaning into the edge of his seat, glancing between his uncle and father. It was as if the words hit home where Tony didn’t know they had to be.
Howard continued leaning against the table, “..and someday you’ll realize that it represents something a lot more than just people’s inventions. It represents my life’s work. This is the key to the future…I did not understand it at the time of building this but it is..”
The footage cut up a few small scale models of Stark Industries and The Expo as his voiceover was clear as day. He said he was limited by the technology of his time, which was very true, but knowing one day Tony will figure it out.
Because Tony shares a fraction of his father’s mind and his mother’s heart, in result he knows he will change the world. Tony was silent hearing this, glancing over at his uncle once again who softly smiled watching the tape as if it the message was very much becoming clear to Tony.
The fight he mentioned earlier that heavily mentioned him. Because a part of them knew his path would lead him somewhere they couldn’t imagine but fought onto wanting to share the knowledge with him.
Howard wasn’t sure if he was ready yet to know it all but Jason somehow was just making sure he got to spend time with him.
Howard spoke again facing the camera in all seriousness and smiles longingly, as a place of love came the next few words. He said, “What is and always will be, my greatest creation..is you.”
Jason softly nodded, blinking because his last breath to Howard before he walked out of the house was that Tony is his greatest creation.
His connections to his family and friends are the greatest creations he ever built, his legacy people will be talking about in his future.
“..he never told me about this..” The blonde muttered with a soft grin and nodded, “Not even after we made up..”
Tony looked at him with a gentle smile, “Really?”
“No. It never came up. That stinking idiot..but I’m actually kinda glad I never found out til now.”
“I didn’t know about this footage, period. I always thought dad was disappointed in me and just wanted me to stay away from his work..”
This time he met Tony’s eyes and chuckled, “Well to be fair, you were young and we were all kinda scared you would get hurt in the lab. Especially your aunt. But he wasn’t ever disappointed in you or wanted you to stay strictly away from it.”
“Yeah..?” Tony replies come out as a mere soft mutter.
“Yeah, he knew one day you’ll figure it out, understand why he did it to keep you as safe as possible. Let’s be real here, this lab always tends to be a bit of a fire hazard.”
“Tell me about. It’s why I have Dummy carry around a fire extinguisher.”
Both men chuckled and even snorted loudly at that comment.
Jason chuckled and sighed, “Exactly, there was always a part of him that wanted to share this work with you since before you were born but knew he had to wait or Lizzie would kill him.”
“Oh I know!” Tony replied with a smiled, “Mom and aunt Peg would’ve been furious too, if I was down there unsupervised or worse. I get it now cause I’m a adult but still. It bothered me.”
“And you have every right to feel that way.”
“Sometimes it felt like dad and I weren’t always on the same page either. He was a pain in the ass at time and sometimes I don’t know..”
“Yeah, we both know Howard wasn’t the best at showering people with grand affection but he did it his own way weather he showed it or not..”
“Dad never specified in saying ‘I love you’, he always just crack a joke about something or ruffle my hair and give me a nice squeeze..”
“He has always been like that with everyone.”
“Really?”
“Oh yeah! He had his ways of tell something he cared for them. Like letting Jarvis and his wife stay at one of his houses, getting Peggy a new dress or your mother her favorite pair of pearl earrings.”
Tony smiled hearing that and nodded, “Or buying me a new toy! Now that sounds like something he would do. Hell I think I would do that for Pepper and my kids.”
“You see? He did care in his own way.” Jason added, “But he did love you, bubba. And he knew you would do something bigger with your life.”
The two kept talking, not realizing the footage kept running.
Tony grinned mid chat and glanced at the screen, noticing his father carrying his kid self in his arms affectionally rocking him back and forth a little, as he spoke to the camera. Patting his back as his small face was turned away from the camera in his pjs.
It seemed like he couldn’t fall asleep and went rushing to his father for comfort. His dad seemed more comfortable, having removed his suit jacket from earlier and stayed in a white button down and a loose tie.
He turned up the volume a bit to watch him in mid speech, leaning forward with a small smile.
“You’re the future.” Howard said, pointing to the camera then returned his hand onto to the son’s back rubbing small circles, “..you know i created so much in my lifetime. But you know what I’m most proud of? You. My son.”
Tony stayed silent looking down with a soft smile, glancing back at Jason who nodded watching the footage. He opened his mouth to say something but closed it once again.
Howard continued with a small grin, resting his head against Tony’s in a comforting way and said, “I know it said it already but you are my greatest inspiration and my greatest creation...don’t let your uncle hear this or he will know I sorta screwed up and that he was right..we both were about this. I just didn’t let it register in my brain yet that instead of just showing you everything, I gotta let you explore it as well. Come down to the lab more often than not and see what you can do..”
You can still tell that Howard was trying his best to format his wording where it makes sense and doesn’t sound like he’s rambling too much. Like he was figuring out the best way to say everything on his mind and the effort was clearly there.
Jason held back a chuckle at hearing that last part about himself and nodded, rolling his eyes as he glanced at Tony. His nephew smiled and shook his head hearing his father taking in everything he meant and more.
The man fell silent in a moment as if wanting the words to sink in. Howard nodded with a half smile and added, “I love you.” He glanced over at his son falling back asleep on his shoulder nodding, “Let’s get you back to bed.”
With that Howard walked off screen and the camera cut to black.
Tony blinked watching the vision of screen and the words that came out of his father’s own mouth. He wondered for a second if heard him correctly. Maybe he was wrong? His dad really did love people and his uncle was right that he has his own ways of showing it?
He was silent. He sinked back into his chair and took another sip of his drink, letting the whole footage register in his own head.
Have everything wrap around his own head all at once. It still didn’t all stay trapped in his head the words he just heard.
Then a small smile appeared on his lips as he murmured softly, “W-wow.”
Jason seemed to share the same sentiment as he scoffed, “Yeah. So, how are we feeling?”
“Sorta satisfied, if that makes sense?”
“That’s the way i would put it.”
“I didn’t know about this. A-are you sure you didn’t have knowledge about this video?”
“Nope. Just as surprised as you are.”
Jason just chuckled at that comment as Tony snickered. It was understandable how he didn’t know about the old footage and if he had to be honest, neither did he.
Maybe there was a reason why they both found the footage this time around?
Maybe it wasn’t random but yet fate cause there was a chance of something happening in their future?
Maybe there is something left behind in the past that was coming their way?
The two just had to wait and see.

Bucky
Warnings: 18+readersonly, slight mentions of smut/sexual content, but none actually happens
Copyright: I do not own any Marvel characters or locations. However, I do own my OC Elizabeth Lightwood. I do not condone any copying of this.
You strode up to your bedroom and nearly screamed when you saw someone waiting on the bed for you.
"Oh good." Elizabeth said lazily, tossing her knife up once more, twisting her hip so it went blade in, into the sheath on her hip. "I was starting to think you'd moved out or died."
"Cheerful, what in the world are you doing here?" You asked, crossing your arms over your chest, looking at your best friend.
"Heimdall gave me an address." Elizabeth with a smile, holding up a piece of yellowed parchment between her fingers. "For a certain winter soldier who is hiding in Romania."
You dropped your mouth. "Bucky?"
"The one and only." Elizabeth smirked. "But he said he saw some events he didn't fully understand, but thought that we should get there sooner rather than later. Also, Steve is leaving for London because Peggy just died so he can't go and get Bucky. But, we can."
You stared at her for a moment longer then realized what she was saying, "We're bringing Bucky back?"
"Yep. I think so anyways." Elizabeth said. "So let's pack and let's go!"
You hesitated, "Eliza, there's been some very tense conversations recently-"
"About the Sokovia Accords. I heard." Elizabeth rolled her eyes, "I kind've wish I took part in the conversation just so I could roast the Government. Fuck the Government, I am so glad you stood up for yourself and are not signing. Although I wouldn't have retired. Can't you just go work for Nick and recreate S.H.I.E.L.D and make it like a two person business? You and Nick?"
You laughed a little and found yourself grabbing a duffel bag, shoving clothes into it, then money along with a passport, drivers license, and then also weapons. "I'll have to call Fury then when I get a chance. Also, we can take one of the Quinjets. . . I don't know how to fly one but there should be autopilot controls in it."
"I can fly it." Elizabeth said with a shrug, getting off the bed. "Well, probably anyways. I know how to fly the ones from Asgard. How hard can an Earth one be?"
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
You clutched the arms of your seat with your eyes closed, praying that you didn't die. Elizabeth had managed to get you guys off of the ground and into the air, but you seemed to hit every single pocket of turbulence, which usually didn't happen with Quinjets.
"Can you open your eyes?" Elizabeth complained, "If we die I don't want to be the only one who sees us crash and burn."
You opened your eyes, half-expecting you to be able to see the ground. But all you could see were the clouds.
You had left a message for Tony about going on a slight side mission with Elizabeth, promising that it was not a dangerous mission nor would it screw up his precious Sokovia Accords. You said you would be back within a week.
"So, how are the kids?" You asked Elizabeth.
"Ah, they're great." Elizabeth said, beaming. "I'm actually pregnant right now, but Thor says they're only two months old, so that's why I'm not showing out."
"They're?" You asked.
"Triplets this time." Elizabeth laughed. "I guess Loki's spe-"
"NO!" You nearly shouted, while laughing, "I do not need to hear about yours and Loki's sex life."
Elizabeth smirked. "Fair enough. What about you and Stark?"
You sighed, "We're. . . well we were good. I don't know how he's going to react though with these Accords. We haven't exactly seen each other in private to talk about it yet. I don't know. . . I just can't trust the Government. I mean you would think Tony of all people would realize that the Government shouldn't be trusted. If anything, I thought Steve and Tony's perspectives would be switched."
"Really?" Elizabeth sounded amazed, "Why?"
"Because. . ." You hesitated, "I don't know. Captain America? Being part of the American Government? Kind've sounds like it would be in the name. He was in the army, he's a patriot, I guess part of me thought he would want to sign himself into it as well. He's surprised me though. It's a good surprise, of course."
"As you've said, he's American." Elizabeth said lightly. "And we Americans usually have a good sense of knowing when our rights are being compromised. When they are being taken away. I get the basics behind gun control and restricting the first speech. But when they're actually put into practice, if the Government could actually get away with it, then our freedom is gone. This is just like that."
The two of you were silent for a while, before you started chatting about the easier aspects of each others lives.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"This is it?" You asked uncertainly, looking up at the dingy apartment building.
"Well," Elizabeth said, raising an eyebrow. "I'm sure being on the run hasn't exactly given him the ability to make money. Well, let's go in."
Elizabeth had always had a more hesitant nature about her, so watching her just stride into the apartment building with no plans and no hesitation was disconcerting. But you supposed all of the warrior lessons and everything else that happened on Asgard had made her more confident in herself.
You quickly followed her in. She ran a finger down the board which had names on it, before she started up the stairs. She found the door she was looking for and knocked on it.
Bucky answered the door, looking between her and you and then a apprehensive look came over his face.
"Before you close the door, we came only. No one else knows we're here." Elizabeth said quickly. "And we are armed, but we aren't going to use the weapons of course."
Bucky stared at her.
"Hey," You said softly. "We really are alone. Can we come in? We just want to talk."
Bucky nodded, opening the door a little wider to let the two of you come in.
Elizabeth sat down on the floor, keeping her hands on her knees. You stood awkwardly in the corner, leaning against the wall.
"So, my name is Elizabeth Lightwood." Elizabeth started off quickly. "And I know that you know Y/N Stark. But do you remember that you know Y/N Stark?"
Bucky looked at you and said, "Yes. We were on the Helicarriers. With Steve. My soulmate." He blinked and then said, "I hurt you."
"Yes, but you weren't yourself." you replied, figuring that with his mind as confused as it was already, it was best to only go with the truth. "You were the Winter Soldier. I'm assuming based on my limited knowledge that they are two separate. . . personas?"
Bucky hesitated, clenching his metal fist. "I. . . as Bucky. . . I do not want to hurt anyone. But they say these words and they made me. . . comply."
"What words?" Elizabeth asked softly.
Bucky tensed.
"You're right, that's insensitive." Elizabeth said again. She thought about it. "How many words?"
"Ten."
"Can you tell me only the first two? That way, if someone starts to say them, I will recognize them and I will be able to stop them?" Elizabeth asked.
Bucky looked hesitant and Elizabeth slowly raised her hands, "I swear on everything I love that I will never, ever use those words against you."
You were amazed, watching her interact with Bucky. Yes, Elizabeth had always been caring, but the way that she seemed to know exactly what Bucky needed to hear, or what to say was still fascinating. You wondered why that was. She seemed to have the same reaction with Steve as well.
Bucky hesitated and then said, "Желание, Ржавый." [Longing, Rusted]
Elizabeth nodded slowly, repeating them under her breath so he couldn't hear. "Thank you for trusting me."
"Bucky," You said hesitantly. "Would you. . . do you think you would come back with us? You would be safe with us. And Steve misses you a lot. He's been searching for you for years."
"I. . . will hurt him." Bucky said, clenching his hand again and Elizabeth shot you a look that told you not to push it.
Slowly, Elizabeth stood and then gently sat next to him on the bed. You watched how each movement was slow and nothing was erratic. It was as though she was treating him like a wild baby animal.
"My soulmates name is Loki." She said in a soft whisper. "He is a God from Asgard and he and his mother taught me magic. I cannot take away your pain or the painful memories that you carry. However, I can loosen some of the suppressed memories that HYDRA took away from you. I can help you remember who you are. I can't bring back all of it, at least not right away I'm not strong enough mentally. But I can help you remember enough. Enough so that you will know who you are without anyone telling you who you are- good or bad. You can decide for yourself."
Bucky watched her warily. "Why?"
Elizabeth blinked in confusion, tilting her head like a lost puppy. You saw an almost smile on the lips of Bucky, before he was stoic again.
"Why. . . would you help me?"
Elizabeth was quiet for a moment, as though she was thinking about the answer. "Because. . . I feel this need to help everyone. You see, a few years ago, my soulmate was put under a mind control from a Space Grape- ahem Titan- named Thanos. He couldn't control his actions and he invaded Earth with an alien army and. . . well he killed a lot of people. I watched his mother try and help him with the after affects as he was released from the mind control."
She looked at Bucky seriously. "I suppose because I know I can help you and that you deserve to be helped. I know that you would never have killed anyone the way that you have if you weren't under the mind control. So I know you're innocent and feeling guilty and hurting. So, may I help you?"
There were whirring sounds as Bucky clenched and unclenched his fist. The two girls waited patiently until Bucky said, "Yes."
Elizabeth smiled. "Okay. Will you put your metal hand into this hand?" She held her right hand out, palm out. Slowly, he slipped his metal hand into his. He drew in a breath.
"I- I can't always control this hand. I am sorry if I hurt you."
"It's okay. I have to touch your temple with my other hand. Are you okay?" Elizabeth asked slowly, lifting her left hand up so he could see it, letting her fingers hover by his head.
"Yes." He said.
"I want you to close your eyes. I want you to focus on the most positive thing or person that you remember. Think about that thing or person over and over." Elizabeth whispered, closing her eyes first. Turquoise whisps started at her fingers.
You watched Bucky watch Elizabeth for a moment, before he closed his eyes. Elizabeth put her fingers directly to his temple.
They were quiet for about five minutes. You sat down in the chair in the kitchen and waited. When they finally came out, there were tears coming down Bucky's cheeks.
"I miss him." Bucky whispered. "I miss Steve."
And Elizabeth smiled.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
Elizabeth continued to help Bucky every day and you were the one who ran the errands like groceries and what not. And that was how you overheard it. The one thing that you wished you had never overheard.
". . .me. I did it." Bucky told Elizabeth. You could tell he was crying and for some reason, you paused, "I killed Howard Stark."
Your blood ran cold and you swallowed hard.
"But you didn't mean it." Elizabeth said. "You couldn't stop it. I see your mind. You were screaming to stop and you just couldn't. These things that are done to you are not your fault."
"But I was not strong enough to stop it." Bucky said and you heard him punch something. "I. . . am too weak. That is why I can't go back. Steve respected Howard more than Tony ever liked him. Steve. . . he will hate me."
You closed your eyes, tears streaming down your face, hating yourself for what you were going to do.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"Margaret Carter was known to most as a founded of S.HI.I.E.L.D." The woman that Steve had slowly been crushing on said at the front of the pew. Steve was in shock, wondering why Sharon was standing up there, speaking. "But I just knew her as Aunt Peggy."
Aunt?
"She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to, which is why I never told anyone we were related." She stared straight at him when she said this. He supposed he understood.
"I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either."
For some reason, Steve could suddenly picture Elizabeth- Loki's soulmate- standing there almost rolling her eyes at that comment. He nearly smiled and the image lifted his spirits from his sorrow.
"She said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, 'No, you move'."
It was as though Peggy was speaking to Steve from the grave, telling him what he needed to hear most.
And it was decided.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
Steve stood in the church by himself, staring at the front altar. He heard heels behind him and wasn't quite sure who he expected to be behind him. Sharon? Y/N? Maybe Heimdall would beam Elizabeth down from the sky and give him something. Or, well, she would probably just brain message him like she had the first time.
He glanced over his shoulder and saw that it was none of the above. It was Natasha instead, wearing a business suit.
He sighed, "When I came out of the ice, I thought everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out she was alive. I was just lucky to have her."
"She had you back, too." Natasha said warmly.
"Who else signed?" Steve asked.
"Tony, Rhodey, Vision."
"Clint?"
"Says he's retired." Nat said.
"Wanda? Pietro?"
"TBD."
"Y/N?"
"Tony says her and Elizabeth are off on some mission. But after her speech, I doubt it." Nat said and then sighed, "I'm off to Vienna for the singing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet."
Steve sighed but said nothing, so Nat continued, "Just because it's the path of least resistance doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together."
"What are we giving up to do it?" Steve asked quietly. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it."
"I know."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"I didn't want you to be alone." Nat admitted. And then she pulled Steve into a hug.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"Hey baby." Tony said in a tired voice, "Where are you and Elizabeth at?"
"We um. . . We found Bucky." You admitted quietly. You hadn't been sure where the best place to call would be. You certainly didn't want to do it in front of them, but it wasn't like you wanted them to catch you on the phone in the like the back of the apartment building looking all fishy. So you had opted to talking to him while going down to the store and buying a tub of ice-cream.
"What?" Tony asked in shock. "Y/N-"
"Tony, Elizabeth's working some. . . Asgardian magic so that Bucky can become less like the Winter Soldier. See, they put these words into his brain. I'm sorry I don't know the technical process or terms. But when they say these ten words, he becomes a mindless soldier. He can see what he is doing, but he can't stop himself. He kills on their orders, no matter what and he hates himself for it."
"That's absolutely terrible. What is Elizabeth doing about it?"
"She's trying to bring back his memories. The machine you were able to see on the cameras a few years ago, that was a mind wipe. When he questioned about Steve, they wanted to make sure he couldn't remember his soulmate, so that he wouldn't have any problems killing him."
"Fuck." Tony snapped. "I hate them. Maybe I can come up with something to help him?"
You hesitated, closing your eyes. "Tony. . . this isn't something I wanted to say over the phone. If I could, I would say it to your face and then hold you, but I can't. And I can't keep anything from you because we promised no secrets, so I'm telling you the minute we found out. They. . . they wipe his mind after missions and Elizabeth. . . she uncovered that. . . he. . . HYDRA activated the Winter Soldier to kill your parents."
"Where are you?" Tony asked coldly. "I'm going to kill-"
"Tony." You begged, closing your eyes, heading back to the apartment. You were so glad your phone was untraceable. "Please listen to me. It wasn't Bucky. I told you everything beforehand."
"IT'S DIFFERENT WHEN IT'S MY PARENTS!" He roared.
"Tony." You begged desperately. "Please. He respected your father immensely. He's devastated that he's discovered this. He wishes Elizabeth had never uncovered it. He's crying like a child Tony. And I'm sorry. I'm so sorry about your parents, but the one in the wrong is HYDRA, not Bucky."
You were at the apartment doors and you sighed, "Tony, I love you. I'll be home soon, okay? I'm sorry." Your voice cracked and you quickly hung up, putting your hands over your face. You wiped your eyes and headed upstairs.
Bucky and Elizabeth were sitting across from each other. Elizabeth was doing a memory game with him with the flip over cards. They were just images right now of random things. It was a strengthening technic she was using so she wasn't in his head to much.
"Hey Y/N" Elizabeth said cheerfully and then as Bucky found a pair, she beamed, "Great job!"
"Do you have. . . harder ones?" Bucky asked, his cheeks coloured a little.
"I can make some." Elizabeth said thoughtfully. "But this is the only set I have on me right now."
You smiled a little, heart still feeling heavy at the conversation with Tony. You made the ice-cream and then watched Elizabeth and Bucky play a few more games.
"Can you give me all of the differences you feel between your left and right hand? I mean, besides your left hand being made of metal of course." Elizabeth laughed. She had both of his hands in hers and you gave a little start at realizing Bucky was blushing as he looked at her.
Poor Loki. He was going to have competition if both Steve and Bucky gunned for her. Not that they would, of course. Eh, more like poor Steve and Bucky. If Loki found out, they were both goners.
And of course, Elizabeth being Elizabeth was completely clueless to everyone's feelings. She was actually legitimately shit at knowing when people liked her.
"Hey," You said softly. "I'm gonna go to bed early okay? Night guys."
"Good night!" Elizabeth said cheerfully, squeezing Bucky's hands and getting up, putting the dishes in the sink.
"Good night." Bucky said a little slower, like he wasn't entirely sure if he should be saying it. You smiled a little, and then went to bed.
🎃 ::::: 🧡 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧡 ::::: 🎃
"You don't have to do the dishes." Bucky said slowly, watching Elizabeth wash them quickly. She was so fast at everything, it was strange and amazing. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen some sort of domestic ability like this done so effectively.
With Elizabeth's help, he could remember his mother and sister. His mother had always kept a wonderful house. His sister. . . not so much. Elizabeth was. . . what was the word? Skilled? Efficient? Competent? He wasn't sure.
"It's okay, I like doing chores like this." Elizabeth hummed, setting them down to air dry on another towel. "Besides, it's not like there are many. Are you tired or would you like to do some other things?"
For the first time in a long time, his mind leaped to his pants. It wasn't hard now, to imagine bending her over the kitchen table and railing her from behind.
But as she went and grabbed the ice-cream, putting it in the freezer, he blinked to clear his mind. She wasn't his soulmate anyways. Steve was.
He imagined Steve for a moment and he almost smiled when he felt aroused at the idea of tying Steve up and fucking him relentlessly. Of course, the Steve he was imagining was not the new muscular Steve, but the skinny one he loved. But. . . he was pretty sure he loved both.
"I. . . can you show me the pictures of everyone. . . good?" Bucky asked hesitantly.
"Of course." Elizabeth said, grabbing her tablet. "Come on, we can sit over here." She sat down in a corner, far from the windows and doors. He sat down next to her and looked over her shoulder. She propped the pad up so that he could see easily.
"This is Steve Rogers. Your soulmate of course. His Avenger name is Captain America. And he is, of course, soulmated to you. He's in London right now because Peggy Carter died. Do you remember Steve and Peggy?"
"Yes. I remember both of them." Bucky said slowly. "Steve liked Peggy. Did they. . . did they ever date?"
"I don't know." Elizabeth answered. "I know they shared some kisses after you died and Steve was mourning you. But as for dates, I do not have any ideas."
She swiped and said, "This is Clint Barton. He actually has two soulmates, but he keeps one a secret. His non secret soulmate is Natasha Romanoff."
They continued like that, until she had run out of people to share with him. He felt content and he started to make his bed on the ground.
She put the clean dishes away and then made her bed on the ground as well, next to him.
"You shouldn't be sleeping on the ground," Bucky said alarmed, "Aren't you royalty?"
Elizabeth giggled. "You're adorable. I can sleep on the ground Bucky. You don't have to worry about me. Plus, I've noticed that you sleep better if someone is closer to you. You've had less nightmares."
He hadn't noticed, but now he had.
"Thank you, then." he whispered.
She just smiled, and fell asleep.

I have a little brain worm I have from time to time about a Howard stark x Bucky Barnes fic idea where basically, they met before the war, the fall in love during the wall, Bucky falls, Howard becomes obsessed with finding Bucky and Steve and recreating the super soldier serum. He succeeds in recreating a serum but his experiment goes slightly wrong and he ends up becoming a super soldier. Then they find Bucky, he helps him through recovery, Tony is born yada yada yada you don’t care.
The main point of this post is that in that AU the Mamma Mia movies totally exist and Howard plays Skye bc there’s is no way in hell that you can convince me that the Agent Carter version of Howard stark who owns his own film studio wouldn’t JUMP at the chance to act in a movie filmed in Greece where the ENTIRE cast was drunk the whole time lmao.
#this is dumb#agent carter#howard stark#peggy carter#did i mention Howard is trans#Howard Stark x Bucky Barnes#my beloved#it’s such a rare ship but I love it#in all its forms#2 bisexual f-boys who just wanna let of some steam#2 violently jealous bisexuals that are in love with Steve Rogers and sleep with eachother to cope#then maybe accidentally fall in love 👀

Chapter 2-The Prodigal Soldier Returns
Summary: The day of the Super Solider Serum infusion arrives, and you may or may not emerge as the next gender bend Captain America. Either way, you survive Howard Stark’s experiment, and carry the torch supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic…and possibly intergalactic.
58 years later, Nick Fury and agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. discover Steve Rogers still alive and cryogenically preserved in ice. Rogers is returned immediately to New York for rehabilitation and recovery from his 66-year slumber under ice. When Steve is finally acclimated to his new 21st century life, he eventually bumps into you at the compound.

~~~~~~~~
1953
The lab room suddenly became chaotic. Alarms started to sound off on the heart monitor connected to the Vita-Ray Chamber and red warning lights flashing. Your face began visibly wincing from pain in the window of the encasement you were locked into.
The serum made your blood pressure spike, edging you close to what could be a heart attack.
“Howard! Cut the infusion! Her heart rate is dangerously high!” Peggy called out over the commotion of white lab coats running around.
Howard Stark began to rush over to the main controls to shut down the serum transmission when he suddenly heard your voice through the container.
“NO! Keep going!” You pushed. You’ve worked too hard to stop now.
Peggy and Howard exchanged concerned glances.
“Stark, she’s only at 70% completion. If she’s already struggling now imagine what will happen to her at 100%.” Peggy cautioned.
Howard looked at the serum percentage meter indicating how much of the I.V. was imported into your blood stream. The meter continued to rise… 75%...80%...85%...
He glanced at your face in the viewing window of the chamber. Your eyes shut tight; jaw clenched doing your best to not black out.
…89%...90%...
“Stark??” Peggy yelled.
Your heart can take no more. Your heart rate reaches its limit causing you to go limp inside the box.
“Shut it down!!” Howard called out as he raced to the Vita-Ray Chamber door to force it open as fast as he could. Peggy joined him to assist.
You had flat lined. The sound of a steady drone from the heart monitor filled the room.
The extreme heat of the chamber had expanded the metal from within, making the door almost impossible to open.
One of the lab coats brought a crowbar to pry the latch. After a little bit of muscle and leverage, the door sprung open. Steam projected outward overflowing the room, blocking the view of you. Howard and Peggy began fanning the air so they could see you.
There you were, still vertically strapped in, head resting on your shoulder, eyes closed…still not breathing.
“…Howard.” Peggy said with breathy distress while looking at you.
Howard walked up to your lifeless form, placed two fingers to your carotid artery on your neck to locate a pulse. As soon as he pressed into your skin your eyes sprang wide open.
You gasp loud and harsh, frightening everyone in the room, causing Howard to fall backward into Peggy.
Exceptionally confused and panicked, your eyes darted side to side trying to get a grasp on what had just occurred. As the heart monitor machine came back to life beeping frantically, the lab started humming again, everyone calling out results and observations over eachother from their stations.
“Heart rate is detected and, on the rise…”
“Oxygen levels at 100%…”
“Blood pressure is getting high, Mr. Stark…”
“Her muscle mass increased by 70%!!”
“If we don’t calm her down, she may go into shock, Agent Carter…”
Peggy took the initiative.
“Everyone, simmer down!” She commanded the room. All the lab coats froze.
She walked over to you and in a soothing tone, spoke to you.
“Y/N, you’re going to be alright. The experiment was a success. You did it.” she said calmly.
She held your face firmly between her hands, so you focused on her. Your breath was short and fast as Peggy continued.
“Deep breaths, Wolf. In…” She inhaled with you.
“Out.” She exhaled with you.
You repeated this until you finally relaxed.
Howard approached you. “Y/N, how do you feel?”
You took a minute to assess yourself.
You noticed your white pajama set was suddenly quite snug. Some parts were even torn especially in the shoulder and thigh area. The hem of your pants that once hung closer to your feet were now shorter revealing your ankles and calves.
“I feel…taller?” You respond first. “And sweaty.”
Stark’s mouth curved into a triumphant grin. The serum worked. And it showed.
Your body was evidently more toned, developed muscles straining against the fabric of your white outfit. Pants now hanging at your calves instead of below your ankles, you’ve obviously grown at least 5 inches. You were a colossus compared to former your self.
Howard offered his hand to help you out after releasing the safety harnesses, but you stumble out like a newborn giraffe as both he and Peggy catch you before you hit the ground.
“Get a wheelchair over here now!” Stark called out.
He looked back at you. “This is the beginning of something big, Y/N. You are going to be part of some of the greatest stories in America’s history.”
You only nod at first since you are too weak to be excited about anything yet.
“Mr. Stark, I’d like to take a nap first if you don’t mind?” You finally responded.
The room chuckled in unison.
~~~~~~~~
2011
You spent the next 58 years battling local crimes in New York, and eventually deploying overseas mostly assisting medical squadrons or rebuilding critical structures for allies and joint forces in combat zones. You were utilized during conflicts such as The Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and The Global War on Terrorism. You were especially useful during Operation Iraqi Freedom clearing potentially hostile locations with Special Forces and patrolling with convoys to secure safe passage for American military to travel.
The Super Soldier Serum’s organic preservatives left you looking and feeling your best since the infusion in 1953. You didn’t look or feel a day over 25 in over five decades because of it. However, you were only able to withstand 90% of the serum’s deposit, therefore you weren’t at full potential of your superhuman capabilities, unfortunately. Nonetheless, you were still a success story in Howard Stark’s eyes.
Sadly, in December 1991 while you were tasked to a recovery detail in Eastern Europe, you returned to American soil to be met by an Agent Nick Fury with grave news. Howard Stark and his wife, Maria, were killed by a HYDRA assassin while you were away. This information absolutely ruined you. You didn’t take Howard’s death very well. You progressively became a shell of your former self, sinking into a depressive state. Since then, you became quite an introvert and kept a low-profile spending most of your time at the gym, in the library reading, or in your sleeping quarters.
Through it all, you still led a life of service to your country when called upon in memory of your surrogate father. Nick Fury assumed command of S.H.I.E.L.D. by this time and took you under his wing, making sure to commission you with new assignments to continue Stark’s legacy.
Even though you were one of Howard’s greatest accomplishments in decades, a resurfacing discovery by S.H.I.E.L.D had the entire compound particularly energetic today. You were leaving the gym and noticed all the lab coats buzzing back and forth whispering to eachother. You also hadn’t seen Fury in a few days, which was unusual because you would usually get a debrief from him of your assignments every night for the following day.
As that thought crossed your mind, he appeared before you.
“Y/N, just the woman I’m looking for. Come with me.” He ushered you down the hall.
You were utterly perplexed, but continued to follow him down the halls having no idea where he was taking you.
“Director Fury?” You began.
He continued walking at a brisk pace. “Hm?” was his response.
“Forgive me if I’m not up to speed on what’s happening here, but….”
You tread lightly about asking too many questions because Fury’s mind was obviously busy, and you weren’t sure if he was really listening to you. You pause as you arrive at a long observing window that peered into what looked to be a hospital room. He gestured towards the window.
“Have a look for yourself.” He invited.
You walk up to the glass and look through. In the hospital bed laid a man peacefully asleep.
Your heart stilled as you stared at this alluring stranger.
He had a thick head of blonde hair, disheveled strands laying softly across his forehead. A chiseled jawline, perfect nose, flawless skin, and the longest lashes any woman would be jealous of. And dear God, arms that look like they could crush concrete.
You stood there with your mouth agape staring at this brawny, angelic creature in front of you.
Fury tilted his head to the side observing your reaction. He was mildly entertained by your moment of shock that rendered you completely speechless.
“You know who this man is, Y/N.” He finally tells you.
You shake your head to snap out of your hypnosis. You look at Fury and raise an eyebrow at him. Clearly indicating you didn’t understand.
“Is that a question or a statement, sir?” You ask.
Fury chuckled as he continued.
“This, my friend, is the one and only Steve Rogers…TheCaptain America.” He explained.
You narrowed your eyes at him in disbelief.
“But sir…” You began.
“Yes, I know, but we discovered him conserved cryogenically under ice a few days ago.” He explained.
You look back through the window.
“Alive? But…how?” You manage to ask.
“Well, blood tests revealed that his blood contained excessive amounts of glucose as a result of his liver processing his glycogen storage, thus lowering the freezing temperature of blood-borne water and creating a 'cryoprotectant'. This process is similar to those of hibernating bears and wood frogs that metabolize glycogen in their liver to circulate ample amounts through their body to reduce the osmotic shrinkage of cells and prevents them from freezing. This, however, has never been seen before in humans.” Fury explained in a ‘matter of fact’ manner.
Your confusion must have reflected on your face because he reiterated by simply saying,
“Howard Stark’s preservative components in the serum allowed Rogers to survive freezing temperatures.”
You nod, “I see. You could’ve just led off with that, sir.”
~~~~~~~~
With Captain America resurrected, the atmosphere at the facility completely shifted. Agent Phil Coulson addressed the public to officially confirm Steve Rogers’ return. Which was an absolute honor for him since he was a huge fan of Captain America and everything he represents. All the lab coats walking around were all a flutter about Captain America’s presence in the building…especially the females which made you utterly nauseous.
You, on the other hand, thought everyone was being overdramatic. You were particularly curious about what would happen next, though. What did this mean for S.H.I.E.L.D.? For America? Where did this leave you? Questions stirred relentlessly in your head for days. Every thought of what could happen next now that Steve was back didn’t have a good outlook for you no matter which way you spun it. These intrusive thoughts keep your brain busy, causing you to lose sleep at night.
You became very irritable with the few people you came into contact with throughout the day, so you decided to spend more time training in the boxing gym hitting the heavy bag. Fury frequently gave you direct orders to hit the showers and sleep it off, which you begrudgingly comply with out of respect.
Fury knew you were less than pleased by Steve’s return, and he was correct in assuming so. Your mental and emotional balance was already thrown off by the passing of Howard and Maria. Now you felt your livelihood hung by a thread because of the sudden homecoming of the prodigal soldier. You felt resentment and anger with every passing thought. And as assignments grew scarce, there were less deployments to redirect your attention leaving you with little to no outlet for your concentrated emotions.
One sleepless night, you once again find yourself hooking deep punches into the midriff of a 100 lbs (45.359 kg) Everlast boxing bag. Your hands only ever wrapped in sports tape, your knuckles are constantly bruised and swollen by the excessive number of times you spend pummeling the cylinder sack.
Sweat beading on your forehead and soaking through your shirt, hissing out loud every time each hand makes contact, you’re so deep in the zone surrounded by fire and wrath that you didn’t notice Steve had entered the room. He stood there watching you intensely while holding his gym bag in one hand, as he held a towel in the other. You deliver one final blow to the bag, sending it across the room like a projectile into the brick wall opposite you. You stood there panting, staring at the pile of other destroyed boxing bags that you’ve launched with your fits of physical rage.
“Wow.” Steve said impressed with a half-smile.
You turn your attention to him, meeting his blue eyes from where you stood. Your eyebrows furrowed still trying to catch your breath. You realize it was only him, so you turned away without responding, (not before pursing your lips together in disdain while rolling your eyes). You pick up your hand towel and wipe your face, then retrieve a new heavy bag, lifting with one hand effortlessly hanging it, replacing the one you just demolished.
Steve coughed awkwardly, sensing the thick air in the room between the two of you.
You started to stretch in front of one of the mirrors that had a ballet barre, completely disregarding the man behind you.
“We haven’t formally met yet.” Steve stated.
You let out an audible exasperated sigh. You barely glance over your shoulder, almost acknowledging him, waiting for him to continue.
“I’m Steve Rogers. Brooklyn. It’s good to finally meet you…”
His voice was smooth and resonating…Like honey. He spoke deep from the chest and his voice projected, yet he didn’t need to yell. His voice just traveled through the room to you like music and almost had you melting into a puddle.
“Get it together, idiot…” You told yourself.
You decided to remain cordial. Even though you’d rather not engage with him at all, it’s what Howard would’ve wanted.
“You know who I am?” You finally responded with your back still facing him.
“I know of you, yes. Word is you were my protégé after I disappeared.” He replied.
“Is that all that was said about me?” You asked.
“Of course not.” He assured confidently.
You turned around while dabbing your neck with your towel, then draped it around your nape holding each end with your hands. You looked at Steve and started to walk towards him. Steve was positively handsome, and although he appeared intimidating and confident, he still had little experience interacting with women…especially if he found them attractive. As the gap closed between the two of you, his heart proceeded to beat faster. Your supersonic hearing picked it up right away, and you relished the effect you had on him.
Steve tried to diffuse his ascending apprehension as you stood feet from him.
“Um,” he started to scratch the back of his head bashfully, “if you’re up to it, maybe you can show me around the compound sometime?” He suggested.
You raise your eyebrows and inquisitively squint at him. Your mouth involuntarily curled into a grin because he looks so stinkin’ cute standing there tensed up in suspense, holding his breath, waiting on your response.
“Sure, Cap.” You say curtly. Steve let out a sigh of relief.
“Wanna start tomorrow?” You ask him.
“Uh, sure.” He replied.
“Meet me here at 0800?”
“Ok!”
You nod at him, shoulder your backpack and breeze past him without another word, leaving him slightly stunned and bewildered.
He watched you leave until he couldn’t see you anymore.
“Phew…that was exhausting.” Steve said out loud to himself.
You chuckle to yourself because you were totally close enough to hear that.
You kind of felt bad messing with him, but you’re the one that has seniority here. Even though he’s older than you and is the original super soldier, he’s “the man out of time” having been asleep under ice for almost 70 years. The horrific things you’ve seen and experienced during those years have hardened your heart and you weren’t one to coddle anyone anymore. Not even America’s favorite poster boy from Brooklyn.
~~~~~~~~
At 0745, you walk into the gym and see Steve sitting on a stool in a corner of the boxing ring. You shoot a perplexed look at him and smirk.
“How long have you been here?” You call out to him.
He looked up.
“Long enough.” He said simply smiling back.
“Waiting to go a few rounds with me, Cap?” You ask almost too flirtatiously.
Steve scoffed then stood up.
“No ma’am, I would never hit a lady.” He responded.
“I’m no average lady, Rogers.” You replied sternly. You weren’t about to let him categorize or underestimate you.
Steve’s smile faded to a look of fascination and curiosity.
“Should we head out then?” You ask.
Steve nodded and exited the gym with you.
~~~~~~~~
“I never knew a place could have so many…levels.” Steve said as you walk off the elevator where the living quarters were.
Up until now, you were the only one residing in dorms. Now Steve shared this building with you but had his room in another wing. It had a common area, an impressive kitchen, dining and living room and a full gym on a separate floor.
“S.H.I.E.L.D. obviously spared no expense.” You stated.
Steve nodded in agreement. He continued to admire the surroundings.
“So? What do you think, Cap?” You finally ask.
Steve looked at you confused.
You gesture to everything around you.
“All of this. What do you think?”
Steve let out a puff of breath and looked around again in thought.
“Well…” He started “it’s going to take a lot getting used to.” He finished.
“Mmhm.” You hum.
He continued.
“But I’ll manage.” He added confidently.
“I sure hope so.” A voice rang out from across the living room area.
Director Fury stood at the doorway, then proceeded to walk towards you.
“Director.” You greeted as he approached. He nodded at you.
“I see you two are getting along just fine.” Fury said with an almost visible smirk.
You released a faint laugh.
“Y/N has been very hospitable.” Steve responded earnestly then looked at you with a soft smile.
You felt yourself blushing when your eyes met his.
“Snap out of it, you idiot.” You scold yourself.
“Good, because one day, you’ll need to work as a team.” Fury explained.
You snap your head at Fury with anger rising in your chest like lava.
“Director??” You ask almost with panic in your voice.
Nick Fury released an irritated sigh, rolling his eye before facing you.
“Y/N, we discussed this. Why do you insist on acting this is the first time you’re hearing this?”
“Because, sir, I never agreed to it.” You pointed out.
“Last time I checked, Wolf, my title is ‘Director.’ I don’t need your consent nor your approval.” Fury retorted in a very parental tone.
Steve just sat, arms folded across his chest while his eyes flitted between you and Fury like he was watching a tennis game.
“With all due respect, Director, I refuse.” You declared.
“Excuse me?” Fury dared you to repeat.
“I refuse.” You restated boldly.
Fury began to open his mouth to reprimand you until Steve cut in.
“Ok now this is escalating quickly.” Steve said while inserting himself between you and Fury.
“Director, perhaps allow Miss Wolf and I to build more rapport before talking about working in the field together? We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” He suggested.
Fury studied Steve, then looked at you.
“Fine. Understand this now, though, when you two are called upon, you will be responding…together.” Fury declared.
You only respond by crossing your arms. Fury turned on his heel and exited, leaving you there with this annoyingly reasonable and infuriatingly gorgeous super soldier.
